Okay ... so based on the reviews, I really really tried to like this place. I really did. I still do, but only because of one thing: the service. Each time I come in, the staff greets me enthusiastically and quickly. And you never have to wait a long time for your meal. (To be fair, I have only ordered to go plates.) However, this review comes after selecting a variety of items each time I have ordered. And in comparison to other "Country Cookin", "Southern comfort" or "Soul Food" establishments, it simply doesnt measure up. In fact, I've had more flavorful broccoli cheese cassorole consistently at Picadilly Cafeteria than I have had here. And I am not Picadilly's biggest fan either. While probably more nutrient rich, being a mix of broccoli and cauliflower, it is inevitably just those two vegetables mixed together with a ton of processed white cheese. And I like cheesy casseroles, ALOT. Speaking of sweet potato/carrot souffle (ala Picadilly), while Roasters wins points for including candied pecans, its the overwhelming amount of flour in their recipe that kills the taste for me, making it heavy with a weird aftertaste. The cornbread rolls are made with a more milled version of Jiffy cornbread mix. The yeast rolls are good but not great, same goes for the fried okra, fried green tomatoes, as well as the collard greens. And finally, the peach cobbler: this may be a personal preference, but I prefer a pie or cobbler crust to a crumble/cake crust. If you're a big peach cobbler fan, you'll take it how you can get it. Yet, I have had it twice now at Roasters and while its okay, I dont see myself craving it in the future. In my hierarchy of go to comfort food places (Busy Bee, Carvers, Big Daddy's Cafe), I'm afraid that Roasters food has not met the expectations of a place that consistently gets great reviews here on Yelp. We found this place randomly because everywhere else was busy but I'm so glad we found this place. When you walk into the restaurant the staff greet you with a hello. The atmosphere is like a southern theme with cool art work. , they give you a complimentary bread Basket that also has a corn muffin, which was nice and soft. I had ordered a turkey platter which came with two sides. So basically it was like a Thanksgiving meal that's why I got it because usually I have to wait until Thanksgiving Day to have a meal like this. When I ordered this dish they give you many options for different sides, I had ordered a creamy spinach and Mac n cheese. The creamy spinach was really blended with cheese which gives you almost a chewy sensation in your mouth and the mac n cheese was good it was a nice simple macaroni and cheese. I really enjoyed the juicy turkey it was topped with gravy. It was also stuffing underneath, it had different seasoning on it which I really enjoyed with herbs. Overall I really enjoyed my dinner because it just reminds me of dinner with family. The taste of the food just brings back memories. read more

ok..this place is legit. great food at great prices, great customer service and very clean restrooms. plus, the manager comes around and checks on every table. the chicken is the best rotisserie chicken i've ever had! don't even put sauce on it..it's a star in it's own right all the sides were delicious but, the sweet potato souffle is amazing! i could marry it seriously. the manager even let me try a piece of rib since it was my first time. this place is awesome u have to come try this place! i promise u it's worth your while read more

Have been patronizing Roasters for the last few years as the food, service and prices are generally good. I have done dine-in and carry out orders with Roasters for years. HOWEVER, my last couple of carry out orders have been disappointing because the food was not fresh, mostly the meat items were an issue for freshness. My carry out order for last weekend, the beef brisket, pork ribs, and chicken wings were not entirely fresh overall. There were pieces of meat that were just too rough and stale to eat. My sweet potato wasn't fresh either. It too had been sitting in the kitchen for way too long. I could tell the meat had been sitting in the kitchen for too long. It's not good to sell non-fresh stale food to customers (Especially to a pregnant customer. Whether they realized I was pregnant or not, they need to always be mindful to give customers the most fresh food as possible, especially meat dishes). My carry out order for this weekend on a busy saturday evening was even more of a shock that the same issue of non-fresh food was served to me in my carry out order. Except this time the beef brisket was fresh and tender and the sweet potato was fresh as well. But my pork ribs, chicken wings, and cornbread was definitely not fresh and were stale and hard. Considering that it was a busy night with plenty of customers, I feel there was no excuse for the food to have not been fresh and to have had the kind of texture you expect when food has been sitting in the kitchen all day on a slow day of business. I ended up not being able to eat half of my meal due to the tough dry texture of the ribs, wings, and cornbread. Simply wasn't fresh food and it concerned me being that I'm pregnant. If I were dining in I don't know if they would have served me the same non fresh old food, but if they had I would've definitely sent it back and asked for a manager. In this case my order was carry out and when my husband brought it home, it was too inconvenient for us to return back to the restaurant to make a complaint and return of the food. Will definitely be contacting the restaurant management about the issue occurring more than once because I paid $22 for my order this weekend and $37 for my order the prior weekend. Spent too much for food I couldn't half eat. Otherwise Roasters has been a favorite restaurant for the past few years, but it appears they have slipped a bit for right now. read more

This place was packed when I came for lunch but we were seated after about 10 mine of waiting. I got pulled chicken sandwich with macaroni. The sandwich was okay, a little bland for my liking but the sauce was super tasty. More of a vinaigrette BBQ sauce. The cornbread was to die for!! I was super bummed they didn't have sweet potato tots when I went. However the best had to of been the macaroni and cornbread. Our waiter was a little shabby. I believe he was new and forgot about us a couple times and wrote down our order wrong but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The food is delicious! Will eat here again when I come back to atl! The fried green tomatoes are some of the best I've had! I got the country fried steak with cucumber salad and sliced tomatoes. Amazing food and delicious sweet tea! The ladies from my office always go here for lunch, so I decided to go with my wife one day during lunch hour. Although it is always busy, I've never had to wait for a table. This is comfort food at its best! I, of course, tried the quarter chicken because that's what they do. It was moist and flavorful! Their vegetable selection is great, and I think it outshines other places that do a meat and three. Perhaps my favorite part is that there were several local Atlanta actors who worked there. They serve chicken, and normally that's all I need, but they amp it up by giving you sooooo much more, like bread and wines and cole slaw, its all here!!! The mood is really laid back, cuz you never have to worry about the sports game score cuz where ever you look, theres a teevee screen telling all about the sprots you like, which is alot for me, since i like so many sports. They serve over things here too, but I really like the toy machines at the front, cuz it gives me something to play with while i eat bread wating for my food, like this one machine they have gives you a big sticky hand that you can slap on to the walls and it will stick to the wall, and I was like "OH NO, its stuck to the wall, i'm gonna have to pay these guyz for there wall!" but it came off, so it was cool. This is one of our local favorites. Kid friendly, reasonably priced, plenty of sports on the TVs, with a good wait staff and some really yummy food. For starters, the rolls are good and the corn bread is even better. My favorite dish is the chicken tenders. They serve some of the best in town. They have plenty of choices for sides too. I usually go with fries and either baked beans or green beans. The fries are fairly standard, but the baked beans are delicious and the green beans have a lot more flavor than you'll find at most restaurants in this price range. They get pretty crowded on the weekends, but we've never had to wait more than 15 minutes or so for a table. All in all, I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

I love Roasters. I've used them to cater (take out style) a fun dinner party at my house as well as a business lunch one Friday. They have great combos that don't sound like a lot but turn out to be a ton (we were eating chicken for a week afterwards but I didn't feel like I over ordered for either occasion). The sides were delicious (though I could always use more of my sides), and the chicken was well cooked and quite tasty. BBQ sauce comes on the side and they're always happy to give you plenty more. All that and every time I walk in or call them on the phone to place an order, every one who works there looks me in the eye, greets me and asks if he can help. That's just darn fine customer service. If you're looking for really traditional southern BBQ then this may not be the ideal location, but it's tasty food, great service and the right atmosphere at a fair price. read more

I used to be a huge fan of Roasters. Took my cuz here this weekend and was really disappointed. Took 10 minutes to get someone to take our order and they were not busy. The two sides I ordered, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were both terrible. I'm certain the mashed potatoes were from a box and the mac and cheese was more like a soup than mac and cheese. The chicken, rolls and cornbread were great, but what the heck have they done with the sides? I'll give another Roasters location a try but if I taste boxed mashed potatoes again, its over for me and Roasters. read more

Wow! Fantastic food and great service! We had the quarter chicken with broccoli and the Mac and cheese. Chicken was great. I've had the pulled chicken which I loved, my son had the kids meal (chicken) which wasn't seasoned too much but I can understand that because it's a kids menu.
