2.5 Stars - [Review Based on Peach Cobbler and Service] I wanted some peach cobbler, but didn't feel like driving an extensive distance to peach cobbler factory since I had vanilla ice cream on me. Upon entering, I didn't get the lady's name but she took my order and her energy was weird, it wasnt rude, but less courteous than basic service, as if she was in a rush to be done with dealing with me. I got the peach cobbler pretty quickly since it wasn't busy here, the customer demographic looked to be older white people. Upon getting the peach cobbler it was disappointing. The portion size was decent, but the texture of the cobbler breading was more gelatinous and soggy than I prefer. It's edible, but below basic. Solely based on the peach cobbler, the energy and the ambiance of this place I can imagine the food is underwhelming. Please note that this is just a guess since it was my first time here. Based on this experience, I likely won't spend my own money to try anything else. read more

This was a mixed visit. When I walked in I was not greeted or asked if I had been there. I figured out it was counter service so I looked at the menu and then went to order. The person behind the counter wasn't rude but wasn't friendly, either - there were zero social niceties. The food was fine. The sandwich I got was piping hot but had sauce on it (wish I had known it was served that way). The sauce was on the tangy/slightly peppery side, which is not my personal favorite. I got fries which were serviceable but could have used some seasoning - at least salt. I asked for a cup of ranch dressing to see if that would help the fries but it did not - it was a really watery and kind of strange dressing. The ambiance is pleasant with ceiling fans and lower lighting. There is a little game area for kids. I'd be willing to try it again but won't be going out of my way to do so. read more

Came on a Thursday evening. They had trivia going on which seems really cool for the neighborhood. My friends and I each got the two/three item plates and were able to try each other's food. I really enjoyed the brisket which was tender and not too fatty. The chopped pork was okay, as was the smoked chicken (not moist but not dry). The standout was the ribs, which were fantastic. As far as sides, I enjoyed the collard greens. The squash casserole and mac and cheese were solid but nothing special. Corn bread was a little dry for me but there were cheddar biscuits free to grab and they were excellent. The staff brought out food and were generally friendly. Decor had a very classic, local feel but was clean and spacious. Worth coming by but maybe not to go out of your way. read more

There is so much good to say about this place. I'll try to do my best. If you are in the Sandy Springs area, you will probably already know about McDaniels qn2 because it's kind of a spot for the locals and it must be special because they've been around for over 20 years! It's hopping during the lunch hour with all the business folks, and during the off business hours it's a bunch of regulars and friends in search for some good bbq. The restaurant is very spacious, so there's tons of seating and additionally, they have a small patio out front. You wanna line up as you walk in and scour the menu for all the good eats that you will be consuming momentarily (it's fast service too!). We were promptly greeted by Glen and served our dishes, and we really had a wonderful time having some good old fashioned classic barbecue!!! This is a place that does all the classics justice unlike some other barbecue spots that I have frequented where there is a lot of sugar and artificial ingredients in the food, not McDaniels qn2. They've got a really good thing going with their original classic barbecue sauce that's made in house. It is finger licking good!! The ribs will take you to another world. They're that good!! You can taste that every item that the restaurant serves is prepared with a lot of TLC. I have a lot of respect for an establishment like this that makes everything from scratch especially when it comes to barbecue and southern food. Found this place on a drive by after leaving my appointment. Pulled into the parking lot and saw you could order online... this was a winner - I dislike going inside & standing at the counter reading the menu. The front counter staff was very nice. I believe the inside took me by surprise. I assumed it was upscale but provided a very nice, quiet and casual atmosphere. Daily specials are posted on the counter. They make homestyle pork rinds for sale. I ordered online which took about a entire 15 mins from decision making and order pickup. Fast turnaround. Taste. The food was good. I have had BBQ that was more tasteful when it comes to seasoning. The bbq sauce was watery and not a fave of mine. The fried okra and sweet potato fries were very fresh. For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the windows, and just enough grease on the table to write your initials - then this isn't it. If, on the other hand, you're anywhere near Sandy Springs you're near some good 'cue. And if you're a stones' throw from a plush new fire station, you're just across the street. Whoever thought anyone would ever call a new fire station 'plush?" But then this is, after all, Sandy Springs. What it also is, is something it used to be which now, fortunately, it is not. Enough gobbledygook for you? What it is now is McDaniels QN2. What it used to be was a sad local chain whose barbecue had gone the way of most chains, down hill. Then the McDaniels brothers bought the place, revamped the look, porked up the menu (it is barbecue), almost everything from top to bottom and named it QN2. What, you ask, is QN2? That's the same thing we asked. The answer, which the owner hints should be obvious is Cue (Q) and (N) 2 (sides) - pretty much what everyone usually orders: some kind of barbecue (Q) and a couple sides. A name might not be such a good idea if it has to be explained. Fortunately, their food does not need an explanation or apology. For a guy who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read my more than 135 barbecue reviews from across the country on Yelp), this is what a barbecue joint is supposed to look like; tons of autographed pictures on the wall, like too many restaurants these days, televisions, along with all sorts of pig kitsch, and an open kitchen where you can see the folks who call this work. Their menu consists of all he standards plus salmon and my BBQ restaurant favorite (right after free pork rinds), a whole pickle. There's different lunch and dinner specials Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday. The pulled pork and brisket (ask for it chopped with the fat left in for full flavor) are both excellent. The ribs place third in part because, unlike most other good barbecue joints, the QN folks don't take the silver skin off the back o before putting them over that low and slow smoke... That skin is not permeable. What does smoke do? It rises but cannot penetrate the ribs from below - hence a loss of flavor. QN's ribs are good, but not as good as they could be. Sandwiches? All the usual plus hot and chili dogs (for the kids who don't know better) to grilled cheese or as veggie burger (for the adults who should know better when there's good barbecue available). Then there are the sides: You likely can name, maybe guess five or six, but not all 15. Nineteen if you want to add the three availabe for an extra cost.. That's a lot of choices and the bet is three or four of them probably make up 80% of the orders. More on the sides: You don't want to order French fries there unless you like the flavor lacking frozen ones, or you happen to luck out and be here the one or two times a week they actually cut and deep fat fry their own fries, which, by the way, are something near world class. Why they don't offer them every day and trim that long list of options is question you should ask. The Brunswick stew was delicious, the pickle? What can you say bad about a dill pickle? A word or few about the sauces: three of them and you probably know what they'd likely be. Desserts? Like the list in all the other categories, it's long. It goes from a root beet float (remember those) to peach cobbler with ice cream. Leave room. Beer, wine, a kids menu, something for the non-meat eaters, enough sides to feed an army, banana pudding and three cobblers (always demand ice cream with any cobbler).+ The place itself is suspiciously clean. Now if you get a little tired after a big meal, they've got a couch. Probably the only barbecue joint in the state with a couch. Tested it; it works. The service is fairly fast. The folks are friendly. including the nice lady who asked how our lunch was, and thanked us for coming in. A nice touch. It's a shame more places don't show appreciation for your business like that. Overall, the Brown Shoe Gourmet rates Sandy Springs' new QN2 (quick now, what does that stand for?) 4.6 stars. They'd rate a 5 if you didn't have to ask if it was a "good fry day" when you ordered, and their pitmaster would take a couple minutes to yank off the skin on the back of the ribs so the smoke could do its job. read more

She got 3 rib plate- perfect portion for lunch. This is the place I take my side slide dish because I know there will never be anyone there who will recognize us. Plus, she likes to get flirty in the restroom. Right away, the service was on spot. However, the waitress bringing us additional biscuits dropped the tray of biscuits and didn't wipe them off before she gave them to us. I complained to the manager but all he did was tell me that if the dirt on the floor was not up to my standards, then I should probably try some of the dirt under the fry machines. Boy, was he right. The dirt there was much tastier and full of sodium. At the end of it all, there was only one arrest made and a series of criminal trespass warnings were issued. Good BBQ with a neighborhood crowd Trying their Q on a whim, I stopped in and choose the pulled pork plate. With the great prices, who wouldn't? One simply orders at the counter, where the crew is happy and helpful! Then, they swiftly bring out the entrees, with sincere offers to assist with any other dining needs. On my plate, the baked beans weren't overly-sweet, thankfully, and the potato fries were hot, and perfectly-crisp... the iced tea - perfectly brewed! The BBQ sauce is vinegar-based but tasty, not thick & overpowering of the fare. They also have a mustard-based and wing sauce, to select from as well. **But, to all my Southerners, pls note: One simply does not visit without ordering the Fried Green Tomatoes.** LOL The space itself is larger inside than one might anticipate from the outside view. Thus, you needn't worry over a place to sit. There is a sea of tables to accommodate large groups to couples. In my case, I'd apparently beaten the happy-hour crowd, and was happy for that. But what I noticed, aside from the lovely afternoon sun - the dining area can open up during more temperate months, allowing the wonderful summer breezes to pass through, which would only add to a great outing, imho. I like almost everything about this restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Top notch barbecued food. It's always very good. I even like that I'm able to sit where ever I like. In the main dining area there's a big garage-type door that is raised in nice weather. My wife and I used to eat lunch here fairly often, but since prices have gone up, we don't visit as much. . But hey, it's Sandy Springs. If you can get lunch for 2 people in this area for less than 50 bucks, you're doing good. read more

Brought the wifey here for my second visit to see if she liked it as much as I did on my first visit. She did! We live in Roswell and driving here is worth the trip. We each had the lunch special of a large pulled pork sandwich, two sides, and a drink. First of all, the bbq sandwich is huge, tender, and messy. The large buttered bun is soft and tender. The pulled pork is tender and flavorful with just the right amount of smoke and sauce. The sides are really good and authentic. The Brunswick stew was the real deal! We decided to try this BBQ joint b/c it was close to the house & we are on the hunt for a local BBQ place. I had the regular BBQ sandwich & black eyed peas. The hubby had a BBQ plate w/French fries & baked beans. The meat on the BBQ was ok but the sauce was very tasty & flavorful. Hubby tried their vinegar based BBQ sauce & said it was good. The FF were light & crispy, the black eyed peas were tasty & just right, the baked beans were good per my husband. W/drinks our tab came to $38 & change. All in all a decent meal. If you want a restaurant that has chosen that Covid doesn't exist, they're a good pick with decent portions. Got this as takeout. No masks anywhere and they offer cheesy biscuits in a shared container. They're pretty good, but considering the world right now I'm unsure if having everyone reach in is a smart plan. It seems ownership skews heavy right wing based on the report. A combo with ribs and dark meat is about 20 dollars. The ribs are solid! You only get two bit they're very good. The thigh + leg are fine. I would prefer them to be perhaps a bit crunchier, but i was satisfied. The shredded pork was a bit dry and really needs the bbq sauce to be interesting. Their Fried Okra was unremarkable but good. The Sweet Potato Fries were the least interesting item by far. They're fairly plain. Overall, not bad. Daniels was better than a lot of other barbecue that's available in the metro. The ribs although they did not look pretty they were absolutely awesome. The ribs had very little fat and a lot of meat especially compared to others in the marketplace. I used Foodsby to try out this place for lunch at work. My food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time however when I opened the container my jaw dropped. I was somehow expecting food that was going to my mouth salivating and instead I had a wtf expression on my face. My motto is I give everybody a shot to make a good impression but Slopes definitely missed the mark. I have no idea where to begin. The ribs. You can't convince me these were prepared on a pit or a grill. They were lifeless. Very thin. They tasted like they were boiled or baked first ane then slapped on a grill. Even the sauce was flat. I was happy with the portions size and taste! Surprisingly good BBQ - we had it delivered so I can't comment on service or location specifics, but the food was high quality and delicious. The ribs were by far the best item we ordered, falling off the bone and just the right amount of sauce. The coleslaw and mac & cheese were the best of the sides we ordered. I love 'cue! My wife and I are visiting friends in Atlanta, and our first stop after arriving was lunch at QN2. I can't say enough about how great this place is. It ticks all the boxes for a "local BBQ joint." Very friendly service where the vibe was a place like "Cheers" - where everyone knows your name. Our server , Jamie, was terrific - very helpful with suggestions of some of her favorites. She also checked on us frequently to see if we needed anything. But, of course, most importantly is the food. And QN2 delivers! We sampled some great food! Chicken, ribs, brisket, smoked turkey (on a salad- if you want BBQ light), fried okra,beans,slaw,corn bread, garlic toast, and jalapeño cheese grits. While everything we had was first rate, the highlights for me were --the ribs(fall off the bone and succulent, great tangy sauce) --the slaw was one of all time favorites (if you like it a little on the sweet side, which I do), --the brisket was smoky and fork tender, and --the jalapeño cheese grits were amazing! Since I was in the area, I was going to go to Flower Child. However, I noticed that there was a Slope's BBQ right across the street, so I changed my mind about Flower Child. I really wanted some good ribs! I went in and ordered at the counter. I got the rib plate along with green beans and macaroni and cheese as the two sides, and stayed to eat in. The green beans were good. The macaroni and cheese was ok. I was very disappointed with the ribs beginning with the first bite. They definitely were NOT good ribs. I believe that any good barbecue restaurant should NOT have to put any sauce on their ribs, since the seasoning and the grilling should provide the necessary flavor. The use of barbecue sauce should be used only to enhance rib flavoring. However, these ribs badly needed some flavoring because they were so bland. It tasted like the ribs were boiled first, then the sauce was put on them as they were heated up again prior to serving them. I didn't even like the available sauces, which were weak in flavor and consistency. I'm not a fan of the food here, and won't be making another visit. The highlight of my visit was that the service was good. A very friendly woman took my order at the counter. Another plus was that ample parking was available. read more

My first visit to Slope's was yesterday for a family birthday party. We were lucky to have the restaurant to ourselves for a Sunday catered event. The food was very good. I loved the mac n' cheese and baked beans, especially! I'm a very picky BBQ eater and Slope's definitely passed the test. The hot sauce is pretty decent as well. I will definitely recommend Slope's to anyone who is looking for BBQ in the Sandy Springs episode. read more

Simple food, old fashioned, friendly. The rack of ribs is slow smoked and comes off the bone with just a little tug. Pulled pork is is tender and can be put on toast instead of a bun. They even make their own Pork rinds and sell them for a dollar a bag. This place has been around for years now, has plenty of regulars and sometimes I will stop by for a for a sandwich or ribs. While it it not my favorite it works and in the area. This last visit Will Be The Last For Awhile, I got a slab and two sides to go on (2/27/13) and used my Scout Mob deal this is on a Wednesday evening I got them home and put them in the fridge. I ate the mac & cheese and the fried okra that was chosen as sides and was full. The next day pulled the ribs out, heated a few up for lunch, added the hot sauce they threw in.and took a seat at the table and dove in. Shortly after eating them I got sick in my bathroom sink and then again later on at work. Believe me work tonight was awful between the bouts of nausea and the sweats. My coworkers and I ate lunch here to welcome a new member to our team. The staff are incredibly nice, which is wonderful considering how short people can be during the lunch rush. Most of the people in my group seemed excited about the ribs, so I can assure you they are on the menu if that is what you're seeking. Our orders were all placed at the same time, however they each came out individually. They were surprisingly quick, though! I had the brisket melt, which was good - I've just had better. The large menu board behind the counter did not specify the sandwich would have onions on it. I figured it might so all I had to do was pick them off as best I could. I really appreciated the Texas toast type bread so the sandwich did not fall apart. The fried okra I had for my side was also good, just a little tricky to eat with a fork. I am very use to having it as a finger food - I was just trying my best to stay clean during a work lunch! The unsweet tea wasn't bad at all, though I would have preferred to have had access to napkins near the lemons. I squeeze the lemon slices immediately into my tea - While lemon juice on my hands is really not a big deal, I just want to point it out in case someone reading this does the same. It kind of reminds me of that one southern aunt who loves to cook and cooks okay, but nothing really impressive.. the best thing I had on my plate was the home-made sausage. It was very tasty and juicy. I only ordered the link since on the online menu, it said it would only be $1.75 for it, but the register still rung it in as if it was a sandwich plate at something around $4.99. Huh? I also had sweet tea with that, and all in all, everything I had was close to $18 plus tip (but there really isnt any "real" service after you order.) EIGHTEEN BUCKS FOR A SANDWICH, COLE SLAW, COLARD GREEN AND ONE SAUSAGE LINK - WHAT THE WHAT??? sigh*** And you know, this is an establishment where you order at the line, then you get and refill your own drink, they call out your name and you holler back to let them know where you are sitting ... and here I was paying this much ... All in all, it was a-ok ... cute and cozy and has a bit of that simple southern bbq atmosphere which i found charming especially with it being nestled in the middle of sandy springs, but the food fell short on taste. I decided to give this place a try since it was Thursday an my cheat day to eat comfort food....so I came in to order that Brisket Melt w/ sweet potato fries & baked beans....got me an unsweetened ice tea with a splash of lemonade.... this place was busy at lunch time ... OMG....OMG....OMG...this sandwich was Amazingly delicious... if I didn't want to over do it I would have ordered another one....an to pair it with the sweet potato fries was perfect.. I topped my fries with Texas Pete hot sauce....the sweet salt & hot mixture was popped. the baked beans were cooked to perfection... the whole order came to $11.95 but was well worth it....Now I have to make a decision on how NOT to come in this place every other day.....WILL POWER IS WHAT I NEED....
