My fiancée was treating me to a post-birthday dinner, and I specifically wanted City Barbeque because I had it a couple of months ago and was absolutely floored by how good it was. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown. We chose this location over the Blackmon Dr. one solely based on the health score -- this location was showing a 100 while the other had an 86. In hindsight, I wish we had gone back to the original spot. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt off. Every employee we encountered looked at us with visible disinterest, almost like our presence was an inconvenience -- and this was well before closing. We stood at the counter for about five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The employee who eventually took our order was patient while we decided, but she spoke so quietly that it was hard to hear her. The biggest disappointment, though, was the food. It came out cold, which was surprising and frustrating. I know and love BBQ, and temperature plays a huge role in flavor. Even assuming all locations receive food from the same distributor, this meal tasted noticeably different -- and not in a good way. The cold temperature absolutely impacted the experience. To make matters worse, the condiment station was messy and unclean. When I picked up our food, I thanked the employee and wished him a good day, only to be completely ignored. That small interaction really summed up the overall lack of hospitality. We walked away extremely disappointed, especially given that this was meant to be a celebratory post-birthday meal. I'm typically weary of chain barbecue restaurants and now confirmed for good reason. Barbecue is a cooking technique and cuisine that requires attention and dare I say, "love". I didn't get any of that in the three meat combo that I ordered. The brisket and chicken really weren't notable at all and lacked memorable flavor. Okay-bbq. My husband was craving bbq and wanted to try this place out. We ordered pulled pork, pulled chicken, and chicken thigh with leg. For our sides, we tried the mac &cheese and corn pudding. We've definitely have had better bbq. The flavors were not there. The buttered toast was really good though. Probably what was most disappointing to me was the banana pudding and chocolate cake. Usually, chocolate cake recipes call for a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors of all the other ingredients. This chocolate cake tastes like it contained a cup of salt. Walked in at prime time on a weeknight, and there were a few customers dinning in but a whole lot of to go orders. The inside has plenty of seating, there's also a large patio, and it has the overall look and feel of a chain bbq place. Took a while to order at the counter, as the person ahead of us had a lot questions. Would have been nice if they'd added a cashier to speed us along, but once we ordered the food came quickly. The fries were cold but were quickly exchanged with an apology with some fresh ones. The brisket was ok, chicken good, and the turkey surprisingly my favorite. What the heck happened to the menu??!!! There is no family meal, and the single serving meats are incredibly small. The side item containers are now super small too--- literally one scoop. Everything is now an upsize for additional money. Not only that, but they squeeze all the meats in one container with a piece of toast. :( Buns and cornbread is extra. Always so good, my husband says this is the best bbq hands down. Tried their cornbread for the first time recently and it was hard, went and told the front and they brought me the most fluffiest and fresh cornbread I've ever had, delicious. I always get the brisket sandwich and baked beans, can't go wrong with those and my husband gets the ribs with cornbread and mac. I really like their mac and cheese, I always steal some of his lol. read more

Great food at City BBQ! My review is based on catering order for 20 people. They did a great job with the food and set up. We had brisket, chicken, baked beans, green beans, corn bread, and cookies. See pic. Nice layout on plastic sheet with each item labeled including the three different types of sauces. The food. My choice was sandwich with brisket, chicken, and spicy BBQ sauce. With side of green beans and baked beans. Very tasty. All the other folks enjoyed their food and more than enough to go around. For the third time, I visited this location and they were out of ribs. Sunday night 545 no ribs. Third time it's happened. To this day it's the only barbecue place. I've been to in my 60+ years that has ever been out of ribs. They care more about saving a few bucks on ribs that don't get sold then to making sure they have ribs when a customer comes in on a Sunday night before 6 PM. This location is my new favorite in the metro area. This location has a huge dining room and plenty of parking. The menu is overwhelming with many great bbq/sides selection. I was disappointed in the lack of combo options - ordered à la carte. 1/2 rack of ribs, corn pudding, fried okra, and potatoes salad. The ribs were tender and juicy. The sides were as expected. Quality of food way below average. I ordered through Grubhub the 2 meat 2 sides. And a lemonade. I did not receive my lemonade. The pulled pork was full of fat. I maybe was able to get three bites from it. After dissecting the meat. The greens were bad, just bad. Not good at all. The best thing surprising was the Texas toast. There's also a good bit of seating and its always kept clean! This time around, I ordered the sampler with ribs, pulled pork, green beans, and baked beans. Not too shabby! We were greeted at the counter with smiles. It wasn't overly packed and the vibe was relatively calm and quiet. The ribs were very good. Smoked nicely and the signature sauces were tasty. I took off one star because I have to be honest about the sides. The collards were good but very very salty. I couldn't finish the okra due to the amount of hard stems and strings. But the peach cobbler took their place and stole the show. It was excellent. Just the right amount of bread/peach ratio. First time here and I was impressed. there was plenty of seating and weather was greta for the patio. We got Smoked Chicken Wings and Pork Ribs with collard greens and potato salad. I tried all of them and to be honest they have very similar tastes; but they are all very good. The ribs on a scale of 1-10 were an 8. the bark was perfect but the ribs were a little bit tough. even though I say tough; they were super tender. If they literally had fallen off the bone when I pick them up they would be a 10. I make ribs all the time and this is very easy to do especially if you dont serve the ribs when they are at there best. The collard greens were not very good in my opinion, they needed to be cooked longer and could have used some more flavor. the potato salad was great and the wings on a scale of 1-10 were a 7. I really dont go to BBQ restaurants because I spent $500 on a smoker and make great ribs at home but I would definitely recommend this restaurant tp anyone looking for great BBQ. read more

I have had 2 good dinners here recently. First, I went and got the chicken sandwich and chicken tenders, mac and cheese and fries. All delicious. Next I came back for the chicken sandwich again. While the line is sometimes slow (not due to the restaurant but people taking a very long time to order), the food comes quick and good. There is a sauce bar that you can choose all your sauces from while you're waiting and even take them for your to go orders. There's an option to order online but there's sometime about being able to order in person, though I'd do online next time maybe because the people were slow in front of us. If you download the app and do loyalty, seems to be a good rewards program and I already got some discounts emailed to me as well! My one tip is to not upgrade your sandwich to the texas toast, it wasn't necessary! read more

I decided to try it on a random Monday around 2 pm. The restaurant was very clean and there was not a long wait. I was instantly greeted. The customer service was top tier and the people were really friendly. I ordered the nachos and replaced the pulled pork with brisket, smoked wings, okra, and banana pudding. The nachos serving was huge. I wish it had a little more meat, but overall it was well worth the $11. It comes with queso, meat, onions, and bbq sauce. The bbq sauce was a nice touch. The smoked wings were very flavorful. It paired well with the chipotle ranch, which tasted home made. I dipped the okra in the chipotle ranch is well. No complaints there. The food was very flavorful. For delicious, I chose the banana pudding. It's different than a traditional banana pudding as it has caramel in it. R and I came here for dinner in early November on a Tuesday night, and we thought it was all good. Parking was easy to get in the very large and free parking lot that is shared by all of the nearby businesses in the long shopping center. City Barbeque is physically attached to a separate group of shops that are close to the intersection of Abernathy and Roswell Roads. City Barbeque's main entrance is at the front corner of the restaurant. Customers need to keep walking until they get to the order counter, where, after viewing the posted menu, they can place their order. The self serve beverage dispenser is nearby. This restaurant has lots of tables, both in the indoor dining areas and the outdoor patio, and it's well lit and clean. R and I went to the order counter. The employee there was very helpful and answered all of our questions. I was interested in getting the ribs, and the employee told me that, since it was Tuesday, ribs were at a special lower price, at $1.99 per rib. I ordered a half rack of (6) ribs at the Tuesday special price, and a potato salad. R ordered a pulled pork sandwich with hush puppies. We chose a table in a section where we were able to see the outdoor patio and Roswell Road. I went back to the counter near the pick up area. The employees were quick and efficient, and our food was ready for me to pick up. I got a container of brush fire sauce for a little added spiciness. City Barbeque has solid bbq, and its smoking process give the meats a very nice flavor - good enough flavor to not require bbq sauce. However, any bbq sauce put on the meats only enhance the smoked flavor. City Barbeque isn't the best bbq I've had, but it's certainly nowhere near the worst. The ribs were on the cusp of being fall-off-the-bone, and had a very good flavor. The potato salad was also good; I liked the firmness of the potatoes and the crunchiness of the onions. The okra, collard greens, and banana pudding are to die for. The meats unfortunately we're not my favorite. The brisket was very dry and tough. And so was the pulled pork sandwich. The okra is so crispy and flavorful. Same with the Collie greens. The banana pudding really was the start of all the items that we got. I honestly wish we had more. The banana flavor was delicious, did not taste artificial. And it had some kind of crumble on top of the whip cream. Oh my gosh I wish I would've gotten another one. The service was quick. I had no one in line before me and it seems that my order was ready 3 seconds after my payment was processed. At other joints, this is my go to but this was terrible. -ribs: my second favorite item. Meaty. Only issue was that the ribs were nearly fully burnt. -pulled pork: a little dry but still flavorful and worth it. -cornbread: fantastic. Moist. Warm. One of my favorites, to date.
