I found a Groupon for Porter Brew & Quw and decided to give it a go. So, a friend and I headed there to get some BBQ and beer one Saturday afternoon. We got there a little after 1pm and what became extremely apparent was that there simply weren't enough employees working. There was only one waitress working both the floor and the bar. While it wasn't packed, there were a fair number of customers. This inevitably led to relatively slow service. But it should be noted that she was busting her ass and doing her best to keep up. It took us a while to get our order in, it took us a while to get our beer and it took a while to get our food. The food and beer were both fine. Neither really stood out in the grand scheme of things but I enjoyed both. I went with a pint, a flight, and the pulled pork. I really like how they do their fries. The portions were fair and I left pleasantly full. Porter B&Q is an interesting combination of aspects. They appear to be one-part BBQ joint (this should be obvious), one-part sports bar (they have a lot of TVs), one-part bourbon bar (great selection of whiskeys and bourbons) and one-part brewery (this should also be obvious). It's an interesting combination that produces a unique identity. When I came in only about half of the TVs were turned on which was really odd. I'm not sure if this was b/c they were operating shorthanded or b/c someone couldn't be bothered. Either way, it was sort of odd and off-putting. We went at 8:00 pm on a Tuesday night. Not very packed, so we had our choice of tables. We sat at a booth, which had its own personal TV! The beers were good. We got the Amber and the Dunkelweizen. For food, we got the Wicked Brisket, which was very good. It had great flavor. The only issue with the Wicked Brisket was that there were entire bites with just fat. It would be nice if next time they cut out the fat. The 1/2 pound brisket plate was okay. The brisket was too tough, not tender or moist. I used a lot of sauce, but that didn't really solve the problem. The wings were alright. They were cold, but they did have good flavor. The pulled pork was also just alright. For sides, we got the fries, 3 Cheese Mac, and Off the Cob Mexi Street Corn. Out of the three sides, the fries were the best. They had a perfect crunch and were nice and hot. Friendly place, jolly server's. A lot of regulars. They do offer a mug club. They were cleaning the kegs. They only had one IPA or a sour. Had the IPA. They do offer other beers. SUMMARY (for those short on time) Porter Brew & Que Brewery is a barbecue restaurant with a brewery and full bar, tucked away in the back corner of The Shops of Dunwoody complex. The interior has a nice, modern feel with plenty of seating across the bar, booths with individual TVs, and high top tables. The food is great, and what you would expect of offerings in terms of traditional BBQ restaurants (ex. plates with meat and side options, etc.). I'd recommend Porter Brew & Que for lunch or dinner with friends or family, or a post-work happy hour gathering! PRE-DINING The restaurant/brewery is tucked away in the back corner of the Shops of Dunwoody complex, next to a Thai restaurant (formerly Com Dunwoody) and Dunwoody Tavern. There's plenty of parking lot space. AMBIANCE Being newly remodeled, the decor feels modern, with lots of seating at the bar and tables. There are also plenty of screens where you can watch any NFL Sunday game (they have NFL ticket with DirectTV). Your waitress will happily get you the remote for the TV at your booth if you'd like to change the channel. SERVICE The service was great, as we were addressed quickly and our server was very friendly. She was also knowledgeable in their craft beer selection, and let us taste any we were curious about. F & B To start, I had the Green Pond IPA and my husband had the Darker Smiles Dunkelweizen. Between the two, I preferred the Green Pond, and would order it again. He later ordered the Ode to Cream which I would also recommend (all were nice, and probably just a preference of what type of beer you typically enjoy). For food, we had the deviled eggs, and plates with two sides. I had the pulled pork with Mexican screen corn and potato salad, and my husband had the brisket with the corn and mac and cheese. They have two BBQ sauces to choose from, one a spicy sauce and the other a little on the sweeter side. I preferred the spicy sauce (golden spicy) and my husband felt the meat didn't even need sauce. We went here for the first time and I am so glad! Finally a hip place in Dunwoody with delicious home brewed beer and barbecue. They have great salads too if you're a vegetarian. Overall: Food is honestly okay but terribly mismanaged business - even more so during a pandemic. I'll start out by saying I went to Porter prior to all the COVID lockdowns. I had the brisket sandwich and smoked wings. Flavor wise it was good. Wings were oversmoked but not terrible. However, the service was terrible. It took 15 mins after getting seated to see a server. Another 10 mins to get water. 15 mins to fill our drink order (and to tell me they were out of my selection - yep 15 mins to tell me they were out). It was a 2 hour+ dinner, which we started at 5:30 pm (non peak time). When COVID came around, I knew how hard it must be on businesses so I took down my Yelp review. It was critical of the business, they were fairly new, and being a Dunwoody resident, I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt. That being said, watching them operated during COVID has clearly shown they lack leadership and proper management. In this environment, it is extremely difficult to run a restaurant. I get it. You need to generate revenue. Your workers need tips. You need to keep the doors open. But a year into COVID, there are certain basics that should not be tolerated. They routinely pack the restaurant indoors with certain local clientele - certainly tighter than any recommendation from any health entity. None of their workers wear a mask. Yeah running a restaurant during COVID is tough. But I'm tired of excuses a year into COVID. This isn't me catching them on a bad day. This is how they choose to run their business everyday. Looks like they have found their groove! I had the smoked brisket (perfect) with potato salad (creamy) and collard greens (savory with generous pork bits). Wife had the smoked chicken BBQ nachos, which she really liked. We both had the in-house brewed Belgian tripel, which, though lighter in taste than most tripels I've had, was very good (and potent - 9% ABV). We are locals and have given this place many chances and each time truly hope for a better experience than the last; much to our disappointment. The food is relatively good but it is evident that it is poorly managed and the owner/management does not care to hire enough people or properly train the staff they do have. For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the window and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, in this case, you'd be wrong In this case, some really good barbecue can be found in Porter's Brew & Que in, of all places (get ready for this) a shopping center area called the "the Shops of Dunwoody." What it is a relatively new spot that can't decide if it wants to be a sports bar, a tasting house for craft beers or go to spot for good barbecue, so instead combines all three with mixed results. Turns out the pit master, Joseph Fuentes has a good background in barbecue and in the food side business. As a result, he puts out some pretty good barbecue. In fact, better than just pretty good and then there's some that could use more attention. Starting at the top of menu: they offer the standard ribs, pork, beef brisket, chicken and turkey plates ranging from $11-$16. The brisket comes maybe a quarter inch thick and little dry save only for those pieces that have the fat attached that keeps it moist and permeates with the flavor of the smoke. The Star of the menu however it is their pulled pork. It is full flavor, moist with just enough smoke so that you know you're eating good Q. And they don't skimp, it comes in a generous heap. Fuentes says the pork is cooked mostly with hickory wood low and slow and occasional twig or two of cherry just for accent. The sides (there are eight of them) feature something called Mexican corn which defies description except so say it's niblets soaked in a great spice and then maybe pan fried. Unique and tasty. Another option were some truly exceptional French fries which our waitress, Becky, urged us to order even though she reluctantly confessed, they were frozen. She was right, they were battered fried with a unique crunchy taste and spicy flavor without being overbearing. A wise choice; servers usually know - you just have to ask. Almost equally as impressive was the ranch potato salad and the mac & cheese, with more cheese than anyone should be asked to have to eat in one sitting. The Brunswick stew - a lot of meat but very little flavor - was the only disappointment. They have four sauces but, that is no way of knowing unless you ask. The two on the table are what they call their house sauce and a golden mustard - fine for poultry but ought to be illegal on pork or beef. The best of the bunch, believe it or not, is one you to have to ask to get. It's called Grand Daddy, good flavor with enough spice to be noticed, but not overwhelming. On the other hand, (the one without a ring), Memphis Sweat had a good spice to it but came up short from being as hot as its name suggests. Interestingly, and without any value to customers, the sauces on the table were served chilled, refrigerated overnight according to local health standard requirements. Which is fine, but who wants to pour cold barbecue sauce on warm meat? Why not put what is their best (sauce) on the table with the also-rans? And warm them up (check out the always-served-warm for full flavor sauce at Fat Matts). A word about the service: excellent. Our waitress, Becky, had a great personality, answered questions and made recommendations when requested. Service was prompt even to the point of bringing new full glasses of tea before we completed completely drained the first. An aside, don't know if it was by accident or that Mr. B&C only hires them, but each of our servers was an inspiring young actress working to keep afloat while they hunted for acting gigs. Brew and Que sits in the corner of the shopping center across the parking lot the used to be a mainstay of Atlanta of the Atlanta barbecue scene, JR's barbecue long since gone. They're next door to what used to be Wright Sandwich Gourmet, which suddenly went out of business and is now being replaced by a new restaurant still under interior construction and will really have to be good to top their predecessor in that space or the folks now next door. Dunwoody and barbecue are two words that don't often come up in the same sentence, but Brew & Que with a the sign over the door that says BBQ - Bistro Brewery should do great business once word gets around, for the Brown shoe gourmet four stars for new entry on the local barbecue scene. We'll be back (work on the stew, and warm up that sauce). read more

They have great music festivals which we love. I get great joy watching the crowds every Friday night and often join in the fun, but the restaurant just isn't good. So sad! read more

If I could leave a negative review I would! I take my pup to camprunamutt and decided to grab some lunch here one day. My server was the sweetest young lady! I asked her if the 1lb jumbo wings were fried and she said yes. So I said I'd take the bones less smoked wings which say "smoked wings" on the menu. To my surprise the came out fried. I told her I was sorry but they were fried and I don't eat fried food and she took a different order. The poor thing tried to take them off my ticket but said her manager wouldn't because they had an issue Sunday with taking food off of peoples tickets that people ate and said just don't tip me I'm so sorry. I said well the wings were advertised as smoked and I didn't eat them. She said she told her manager that but he wouldn't do anything about it and she honestly looked terrified. I told her not to worry and that I was going to tip her and not make a scene with the manager if it would make things worse for her. I waited tables to put myself through school and none of this was this sweet things fault except maybe she should have told me initially that the wings were smoked and then fried. Anyhow I will NEVER come back to this place even though it's in my neighborhood. Whoever this manager is, he should be fired. He should have come out to speak to me himself. I wanted so much to love this place, but it's just ok. We went when it first opened and we're underwhelmed. We gave a shot again this weekend and were even more underwhelmed. The first inkling of a problem is when you park. No barbecue smell. None of that sweet smoke smell that tells you 'this is going to be good'. We both ordered brisket platters. The meat portions seemed on the small side. It wasn't hot and juicy. It wasn't even warm. It was just ok. The Mexican street corn off the cob was also just ok. The space is small and they were busy. We walked in, no hostess or any indication if we seat ourselves or not (wish we had). A gentleman greeted us with the warning we would have to wait half an hour for our food. Since it was a brewery, we decided a beer would help the wait and he seated us. We sat for 15 minutes without ever being approached by a server or anyone else who worked there. We walked out past the gentleman who sat us and he didn't say a word to us. The menu looked interesting, but for a bbq place, you can't get a simple pulled pork/brisket/chicken sandwich. Prices seemed high. Everyone's food came out after about an hour, except mine. When we asked where my meal was, we were informed that they were out. Then I ordered a second meal, which they offered to comp. It then took 45 minutes to sort out the bill, at which time they tried to charge for my meal which had STILL not arrived (it did finally arrive). I will not be returning. Hubby and I attended the soft opening last Thursday. We were so happy to see Hannah (excellent bartender - very outgoing) back to working in Dunwoody. My husband ordered a flight of beers which he really enjoyed. We ordered takeout - a pulled pork platter with cole slaw and Brunswick stew, a brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious except for the cole slaw. We thought it was too bland. The brisket sandwich was topped with yummy bacon and pimento cheese. We were given two different sauces - really enjoyed the darker sauce. So happy that Brew and Cue is open!! Very nice atmosphere. The owners were friendly. Happy that Alex and Dan are working there. What's going on here? No Brew and barely any Que. Met a friend there I hadn't seen in awhile as we both wanted to try this place. What a disappointment. This brew pup had six fermentors behind the bar and not one beer on tap. Really? Unless there's a massive system failure, how can that be? Poor planning? The only offerings were mostly cans and bottles, almost all from the giant mega beer guys, and a few IPAs from local breweries. The food was mediocre and portions were small. I had a combo platter in the meat which was spread out on the tray to try and make it look like it was more than it was. My friend had a brisket sandwich which had a giant piece of fat that was about 25% of the sandwich. The only bright spot was the two servers were very friendly and attentive. read more
