Today was my first time stepping into Roasting Plant. I got one of their seasonal drinks that were shown on the sign outside. It was the blueberry rose latte. The drink looked very pretty and I was in the mood for that. I stepped inside and immediately it was a tight fit with a lot to look around. There was roasting coffee bean machine on one side with a lot of Roasting Plant merchandise on another wall. There were different types of croissant sitting inside the display glass. I didn't get one though and just got my blueberry matcha latte. The blueberry syrup was all the way at the bottom when I got it and had to stir and mix it with the rest of the matcha. The latte was not sweet at all and had subtle blueberry that wasn't strong inside the drink. Everything was light. Going to try out their latte next time I come here to taste their aroma and fresh coffee beans, which is what Roasting Plant is all about. read more

Love the concept of coffee that is freshly roasted being served and sold here. My partner has bought bags of beans here before, and it's super fun as they also offer you a free cup of coffee with your purchase. Prices are a bit premium, but he says the coffee is really good! The flavors also change, and there is a mix of regions and roast types available. They have a very cool system set up with pneumatic tubes that pull the coffee you're ordering and grinds it freshly. This location is quite small and there is no indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. I like the concept of the store and the coffee beans are fresh and varied. I got a supercharged iced coffee with their Roasting Plant dark bean and it was delicious. So smooth and rich without being bitter. I also tried the kouign amman and it was nice and tasty. They have a very limited food menu to begin with and by 2 pm there were only two items left in the bakery case. I would come back for the coffee only as the food was limited and the service was pretty rude and unwelcoming. read more

What a cute coffee shop this is. Firs right in with the neighborhood. They have a table outside where I sat to have something to eat that I got from another nearby restaurant. I was in the mood for an Iced Latte so I said to myself why not try out a new place. When I walked in I heard this cool, calming sound and was intrigued by it. I looked up and there were coffee beans coming from the ceiling and they were being sorted I guess. I told the lady working there WOW I could watch this all day. And she goes isn't it somewhat relaxing to hear and I totally agreed with her. I did not try any of the pastries here. I just had an iced latte which to me was a bit too strong/bitter. Our group discovered this coffee shop by chance when walking around downtown. They have a neat system where you choose your coffee beans, then the beans travel through a pneumatic tube to the barista for grinding. I tried one of the specialty drinks, a cookie, butter, latte, and it was delicious. The other guests enjoyed their chai and other coffee drinks. It is a tiny place, but a nice one. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about the drinks, and everything tasted good. A good option for grab and go even if they do not have a lot of room to sit. read more

Not a place to study or anything (no tables) but great for a quality coffee to go. DIRTY CHAI LATTE (ICED) I think a good coffee drink blends the coffee flavor and the rest of its components (milk, sweetener, other flavors) into a well-married experience that kind of just tastes like one happy flavor journey. The chai flavor is a bit on the weaker side, but it's definitely there in the background spicing and celebrating this really smooth and delicious milky and coffee flavor combo. There's no harsh bitterness that comes through that you have to tolerate and it's not too sweet or creamy; it's honestly quite good. Brown Butter Cookie - left a bit more to be desired, but a cool item that you don't see elsewhere. It wasn't too sweet (has salt on it as well) and does have a deep brown butter flavor. Would def come back here though most of their menu focuses on the basics and that's probably because they do the basics well. Also a bit of theatrics as when the barista pulls the beans it comes from a machine that puts it through a tube and you can hear the beans scattering their way over to the barista. Lots of machinery here to show you the whole coffee process. How cool! read more

That being said, the coffee was ridiculously expensive and not anywhere near extraordinary. I barely tasted the syrups I got, and my small iced latte was definitely not worth the $8.70 I paid for it. read more

One of the COOLEST coffee shops I've ever visited!! You get to select which coffee beans you want roasted for your drink, and they roast it right there! The coffee tasted super yummy, and I chose the Jamaican flavor (based on how empty that tube was hehe) My drink was sweet like vanilla but my friends was more nutty. It's crazy how much the coffee bean impacts the flavor! Overall, the employees were super friendly and explained more about the concept behind the store. This is a fun experience with good coffee so a win win! Definitely worth visiting if you're a tourist! FYI- there's only 2 chairs for seating outside and no seating indoors! Came in on a cold morning for some coffee. Not too much of a wait since it was later in the morning. Staff were nice and offered to explain the different blends and beans. The descriptions for each on the tubes were very descriptive. Ended up getting a cafe au lait with the Ethiopia beans. The coffee was fragrant, and the milk didn't hide too much of the notes. It was more of a medium roast, lighter than I would usually get, but I didn't mind it. The notes were bright, but it wasn't too acidic. A good place to stop by for some quality coffee. read more

This is such a cool place! Unique setup that pulls your beans from sealed bins containing a fresh roast from so,e time in the day. Maybe eight or so different origin beans and roasts ( light to dark). Being a scientist myself, I loved the setup and automation. The barista was extremely friendly and talked us through the entire process. She even roasted a batch ( fully automated) while we were there. The cappuccinos were very good and exactly as described ( smooth, light, chocolatey) . I loved the visual experience as much as the coffee itself. Limited seating. read more

This place is tiny and is more like a quick grab-and-go type of café. There was a line going to the outside at some point. They sell many different kinds of roasted beans from different regions, which is awesome. I can definitely see myself picking up beans in the near future. My review is for their beans alone. The barista said they roast their beans right there every night. Coffee beans don't get fresher this ! I bought single origin medium roasted beans from Guatemala and Brazil. They are both excellent. Luckily my coffee Grinder and espresso machine can keep up with the high quality beans. If you like coffee, this is a great no frills spot. Not much in the way of seating and snacks but they've got tons of beans that they'll grind fresh for your morning cup. I always just get a black cup of whatever strikes me that day and it's on the better end of decent-not the best I've ever had but pretty darn good. It can be a little expensive depending on what you order but I think the prices are more or less standard for what you're getting and the service is friendly and prompt. This coffee shop takes freshness to a whole new level! A former Starbucks executive/engineer came up with the idea of: why not, roast, grind and brew our coffee beans all in the same spot? this bean-to-cup method madness he created guarantees the customer the absolute FRESHEST coffee experience. I mean, these coffee beans are roasted in several small batches throughout the day, but they aren't even ground/brewed until the MOMENT you order it. You choose your beans, then a small handful is sent flying through your head in these clear overhead pipes which are directly connected to the automated espresso machine. Your beans are ground and brewed within a couple of minutes of you ordering them. Everything is controlled: water temperature, coarseness/fineness of the grind,etc. You can really taste the difference in Roasting Plant's coffee: no bitterness and you can detect the actual flavors listed on the coffee bean's profile (i.e. smoky, citrusy, etc) I'm not a serious coffee drinker, but this one I especially appreciated because guess what? I didn't feel the need to put so much milk or sugar in my cup. Another bonus for getting your cuppa joe here? BEST chewy chocolate chip cookie this side of NYC! read more

The coffee here always tastes great! I first went to Roasting Plant in Detroit, and I was so happy to hear they have a location in LES (of course, not as big) I love getting their iced coffee. All the beans are suctioned up into this vacuum machine that brings it to the front where it gets freshly ground and filtered. For the iced coffee, it gets put into another machine that CHILLS it as the liquid goes round and round through the chiller. Out comes cold coffee! Everyone here is also so nice and helpful. There aren't very many chairs, so it's more of a grab and go place, but it definitely works for this area because there are a lot of shops and restaurants to wander into. read more

This place has the best coffee in the neighborhood! Tucked away in a quaint neighborhood, it was a hidden gem that we stumbled upon. It's super fast, fresh, and there are so many options. If you're a real coffee lover, you'll appreciate all of the different bean options they have. I had an oat cortado made with the Jamaica Blue Mountain (one of their rare premium beans) and it was unlike anything I've ever tried. Definitely worth the splurge and an amazing treat paired with the almond croissant! All of the baristas were so nice, friendly, and we felt so well taken care of. We got to meet the manager there. Monica explained the history of the café and made recommendations based off our taste preferences! If you're a coffee person, you'll be terribly disappointed by this place. It's a wonderful idea to source good coffees, roast them in-house, and brew them fresh to order, but they ruin it by using an automated, rapid-brew machine. A quality cup of drip coffee simply cannot be brewed in three seconds--it comes out watery and unpleasant, which was my experience. Perhaps their espresso is better. New York has an amazing variety of coffee shops, but this isn't one. Would not recommend a visit. read more

Roasting Plant is a little hidden box of coffee heaven. Although it's a tiny place, keep in mind that this is New York, and that's all you need. They have really high quality beans from which just enough beans are vacuumed through tubes to grind right before your cup is brewed. This is the type of coffee that is best served without any additives. Otherwise the complex flavor will get muted. They still have cream, milk, and sugar for all the people who need it anyway. With a bright storefront and clean signage, its not easy to pass Roasting Plant without a curious peek in. And what you'll see will probably amaze you on a gastronomical or engineering standpoint! The narrow shop space is dominated on one side by THE JAVABOT, which roasts and grids coffee as you order it. It is a ton of fun to watch your little serving of coffee fly through the tubes! As for the actual beverages, I was really happy with the mocha cappucino. With low acidity and a medium bitter tang, it was smooth and strong with just enough creaminess. Perry L.'s chai latte milk was a little disspointing though, because the barista added all the steamed milk before the chai had steeped properly. With only 5 seats and plenty of outlets, its very tempting to want to stay - but the narrowness of the space doesn't make it very comfortable for getting anything productive done. read more
