HORRIBLE PEOPLE! PLEASE, DON'T TRUST! I came in by recommendation for a lip wax. Easy job in the area, my friend assured me that they were professional. The girl who took me in assured me she was doing it for years. I specifically said : "please, be careful as this is the first time I come here" and she proceeded to reapply the paper on the same area over and over again. She burnt my face and I still have a scar! I contacted the owner Dmitriy and he is the rudest person I know. Was not willing to make it up to me and refused any negotiations. Ok, so this review is long overdue.. I've been going to Robert Daniel's Salon for years, and let me first start off by saying Soner is a hair god......I'm not kidding! Soner has performed a miracle on my hair! My hair was so damaged when I first started going to the salon. I had a female stylist from another shop do two highlighting treatments on my hair in the same week, my hair was falling out, breaking, and I honestly believed I was going to go bald. I should have known better, but the stylist didn't say I shouldn't do it, so I let her destroy my hair, not even knowing it. Hence, I never went back to her salon. Then Soner worked his magic! Everytime I leave the salon, I love my hair, he has never disappointed me. My hair is much healthier now, and its growing very well. I've seen the work Soner has done on other clients, and he truly is an excellent hairstylist. Whether its color, cut, blow out, etc, he takes pride in his work, and the results speak for themselves. Now let's get to the reviews I've been reading in regards to the salon. I understand everyone has a different experience, but EVERYONE at the salon is professional, attentive and super friendly, and I have never seen a " grumpy" face in the salon. As soon as you step in the salon, you are greeted by wonderful ladies, your coat is taken, and your offered tea , coffee, or espresso. Now regarding the paper versus plastic cups ( really?), depending on how busy the salon is, you might very well get a paper, or plastic cup when the client next to you may have a porcelain, or glass mug. I've had paper when the client next to me has had a glass, but that's not a big deal to me, as long as my hair is getting done as good as the next person, which it is!! I'd rather focus on my hair, and not cups. Now let's get to Dima, the owner, I have never seen a more generous, friendly, person, and he's always smiling. Dima is in the salon a great deal of the time, and always greets his customers! I also want to say thank you to the ladies washing hair who are very friendly and give me such a wonderful, stimulating, yet relaxing scalp massage . Thank you! I have to say, I feel like I'm visiting family when I step into the salon , it is so welcoming and I truly feel special, everyone smiling and talking. Selim was mine and my moms stylist. He was so spectacular, never have I ever had such a great experience with a stylist before, truly. My mom and I wanted to go blonde we have dark brown natural hair, he was so patient and attentive in addressing our concerns about chemical damage and having our hair fall out. Also another concern was not being able to get the color we wanted because our previous stylists basically said no to us and said there's no way because of how dark our hair is (it's not black it's chocolate brown). Selim really made us feel a lot better about him taking care of our hair and getting us the color we wanted with minimal damage possible. He listened carefully and made sure he knew what we wanted. That moment when you come and see grumpy faces. I also wonder why some customers get their tea/coffee in GLASS CUPS and the other one in PLASTIC. The salon was really nice, the people were nice, and I got a great haircut from Soner. HOWEVER, a note to the owner: please change the sinks. My neck hurt so bad after I got my hair washed, I've never been in a more uncomfortable hair washing sink EVER. Yeah, they're black and they look nice, but I was so uncomfortable, the girl who was washing my hair asked me if I was ok, and I told her what was bothering me, and I told her the sink was really hurting my neck, and she said that I wasn't the first person to tell them that, and that it was a "known issue". People are scared of heights, death and snakes but my worst fear has always been being an obviously over-processed bleached blonde. Growing up, I had golden blonde hair but as I get older, it just gets darker. So in a City that has everything, I expected to find a hair coloring professional to help me bring out the natural hair color I once cherished. So, I went to a hair salon by my house one day and ended up walking out of the place pissed off and $150 poorer. The salon ruined my hair and turned me into a bleached blonde mess. I could've done a much better job myself with a visit to the Duane Reade hair care aisle. In my despair, I called my cousin, who informed me about Robert Daniel's Salon. At first, I was extremely hesitant because, let's get real, it's on Brighton Beach, the place the Americanized Eastern European in me hates with a passion. But I was desperate, my cousin recommended it and they had openings to fix my emergency right away. After my first experience with colorists Selim and stylists Soner, I haven't been anywhere else. They listened to my concerns, recommended a course of action and perfectly executed the vision they presented. That was six years ago. I'm still a regular. Now, I'll admit, this place is weird. All of the stylists are men from either Israel or Turkey. Some of them speak Russian, others don't. It's connected to a shady "we sell all the shampoo and hair products you can imagine" store. However, the atmosphere is always pleasant. Your coat (if it's that time of the year) is taken immediately and you are offered coffee, tea or cappuccino several times. The salon is clean, well kept and brightly lit. There are no noticeable hair spray cans from the 1960s or old, crumbled tin foil anywhere. Yes, the salon is pricey. With a full head of highlights, a haircut, a style and tips for three different employees (colorists, stylist, assistant), it ends up being around $350. But to me, it's absolutely worth it. I've never walked out of that salon even slightly unhappy with my new hair. And I can't tell you how many people can't believe that I have highlights. It's like I'm seven again. If you had a major hair disaster, I'd recommend this place for a pricey but absolutely worthwhile fix up. I'm willing to pay for a service that's worth it. And I've found it with Selim and Soner. read more

Selim the colorist was recommended to me by a friend. Let's just say, I no longer confide in that friend. I repeatedly told the guy I want natural highlights and said "not blonde" several times. He nodded understandingly. Four hours later, I'm out of there with platinum white highlights on my dark brown hair (mind you, these "highlights" were ten times more prominent on the upper half of my head and almost disappeared as they approached the length of my hair), and a pretty messed up blow dry. Never again will I show my face there. Wasted $135 and he even refused to fix it. The cherry on top. Selim is unprofessional and rude. A word of advice : know what you're paying for beforehand unless you don't care to be cheated out of your money for service that you didn't ask for. I went to many stylists before hand and no one could achieve what I wanted . he gave me a beautiful blond balayage and I came back a few weeks later to go more blond . he have me highlights and colored my roots. The experience was pleasent. He is very truthful . I asked him for advice and he truthfully answered that my hair will get damaged if I go too light. Horrible experience! Came there for a blow dry which usually cost me $30 in any other salon. Robert Daniels charges $30 for a regular blow dry and for a long hair blow dry - $35. So I was ok paying $35 since my hair is pretty long. When I came to pay the front desk told me it's $50 for a blow dry !!!! It's really not about the money it's about that they should put in their price list that they charge $50 not $35, if they would I would go somewhere else I don't think it's worth paying $50 for a simple blow dry which was really not special.
