Hi Yelper's I wanted to share my experience, a few weeks back when the weather was nice and warm , my friend and I decided to do some west village exploring. Armed with 'Yelp' recommendations, we hit one of the restaurants in the area for lunch. Once our bellies were full , we did some more exploring of the area shops and came across 'Robert Marc' Optical store. Although it was Saturday and the store was busy, we were still greeted by the store staff (David and Roman). My friend was being helped for a new pair of glasses by David , which we all really liked, and meantime Roman and I had some small chat. Roman noticed that the pair of glasses I had needed adjustments- and volunteered to help to adjust them. To be honest, I felt awkward since the glasses were not purchased at 'Robert Marc', and the optical shop I did purchase them - the optician tried adjusting in several different occasions to no avail - leading to me getting strong headaches here and there. But Roman noticed the way my eyeglasses fit me and suggested me a solution in which I Agreed. Roman Inform me what exactly he going to do, tried a few things until he was sure I was absolutely happy with the results and the way the glasses fit me- FREE OF CHARGE! ( My local Optician couldn't do it ). Roman also showed me a Cat-eye Sunglasses which I fell in love with but unfortunately everything in Robert Marc outside of my pay range. Since I really appreciated the time and service I was given, I offered Roman a tip for his trouble- which he politely refused saying he was just doing his job. I definitely understand NOW why Robert Marc stores considered high end. I highly recommend the store to my friends, such good and friendly service is a rare commodity these days! read more

my experience overall was amazing. My girlfriends glasses needed a screw and olga helped her and this stood out to me so I was in the market for new eyewear and due to this I choose to spend my money here. Olga and the manager, I did not catch his name provided great customer service and were patient. They made my experience easy and I will be back! read more

My husband and I went to Robert Marc's store located at 386 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10014, trying to get the glasses around 11 a.m. on March 18, 2023. There were a few people inside when we arrived, including a lady called "Mila." I informed her we were there to see the glass frame because she was the first person I made direct eye contact with. "What?" was her first word to us, and she looked at us as if we were the viruses that were supposed not to walk into the store. Obviously, this was not how we expected to be greeted at the Robert Marc store. To be honest, it was difficult to swallow her reaction to us at that point. But I politely informed her that we were there to look at frames for myself and my husband, and her response was, "There are frames," pointing to the frames on the wall display without even looking at us, and that was the end of it. I couldn't comprehend how I was being treated at the time. Their display set was not something that anyone could pick up and try; you required help to try them. While I was being insulted, a gentleman named David noticed the predicament and approached us, asking if he could help. We should have left the store after Mila's first act of discrimination and insult, but one of our goals for our trip to NYC was to get the glasses, so we decided to remain and get assistance from David. He was, however, professional and kind. I did complain about Mila's discrimination against us, and he DID NOT DENY IT BECAUSE HE WITNESSED THE WHOLE SITUATION, and he was very apologetic to us. I'm still baffled as to why he tried so hard to apologize to us for something he didn't do. While David was assisting us, Mila remained right next to us, where she observed and overheard our conversation. She knew how angry I was with her. Well, she obviously didn't care and was especially nice and kind to any customer nearby. When she insulted us by saying, "WHAT?" I assumed she was having a bad day and told myself not to judge her, but I was incorrect! She was picking and choosing which customers she wished to deal with! I'm still puzzled as to why she would do such things. Because we were Asian? Because we were the only non-white people in the store? However, we had spent $2625 with David because of his kindness and promise that we would be taken care of. My husband was also extremely uneasy throughout the experience and left as soon as his glass was selected. I remained with David, making minor adjustments to my new frame. I did inquire about Mila's name (yes, I didn't know her name until then) and told him I'd email your customer service and let them know how she treated us. He told me not to do it just for him and constantly apologized. I'm certain she overheard every one of our talks, even when I was asking for her name in order to file complaints... She obviously didn't give a damn. Just as I was about to leave, a lady with a beautiful doodle came in, and Mila was overjoyed to receive them! In front of me was a person who was friendly, professional, and useful. I felt like we were being handled worse than dogs at the time. I told David that we were clearly worse creatures than dogs to someone who works at your store, and he did not DENY my feelings; instead, he apologized once more. When I later told my husband that Mila treated a dog better than she treated us, he couldn't take it any longer and called the store to cancel the transaction. This will be an unforgettable experience of discrimination as a human being. I'm still curious why she treated us that way, whether it was because of our ethnicity, our appearance, or whatever the reason was; no one should be discriminated against for any reason. Mila, if you ever read this, please stop discriminating against people with your judgment. This is not the proper thing to do in life... read more

I am in town for the weekend and broke my frames today. David was wonderful. He hustled to find a pair of frames in stock that would fit my existing lenses. I had other commitments today and he was able to get my lenses into the new frames and sent to my hotel via messenger within just a few hour. I have purchased several pairs of glasses at Robert Marc uptown and recently went to this store on Bleecker. I had the same excellent customer service with Alina and some of the other sales people. I know the glasses are expensive but I am very impressed with the quality of the frames and the lenses. I always have a hard time making decisions and they were very understanding and very responsive. I would go back anytime. read more

This location is the best. Not only is Robert Marc a great company with top-quality frames, they have the best customer service. Frankly, I think the prices are reasonable for what they offer. A few years ago, I was excited to discover Lunor at Robert Marc while walking around our neighborhood in Manhattan. I accidentally broke my frames recently one morning after a set of particularly long nights at the hospital.  We reached out to Lunor, and David at Robert Marc, and were completely surprised when he mentioned that they would replace the frames as a token of appreciation in support of my being a healthcare worker during this pandemic. I'd like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you for this wonderful gift!! Gift or not, we've always had a wonderful experience with the staff and service but this was extra special so thank you for going out of your way to make it happen. Thanks so much! read more

I am a long-standing Robert Marc customer, and I use this location and the one on Madison close to my office (separate review posted there). After much research (see below), I strongly feel that RM glasses are the best made glasses available in NYC. They have timeless style, but are still updated for subtle details that make them really fun (such as a bright color on the inside of the frame). I got curious about them when I kept seeing the smartest and most stylish people I know wearing eyeglasses with a subtle-but-distinctive hinge. Contrary to what people may think, the best-made glasses are not plastic that is injection molded. They are carved from blocks of layered acrylic and assembled with super strong but refined hinges, etc. Yes, I am a big fan of these glasses! Many people may not know that most glasses are produced the same way, often in the same town in China. What you pay for is branding and status, even though those different high-end brands are in many cases owned by the same couple of mega-optical conglomerates. RM is an independent, eye glass maker base in NYC (though I think the glasses are mostly made in Italy, France and Japan). RM glasses are often less expensive than the cheaply-made "status" brands. In terms of service, I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. After many years and probably 10-12 pairs of eyeglasses, I have only had truly excellent service experiences. The staff seems to only want to sell you glasses that look good on you, and they are truthful when a pair does not complement you. This store on Perry, like the store on Madison, is in a nice location. This is always a good stop after Sunday brunch. The staff, lead by the manager Ariel at this location, is always fun, knowledgeable, and responsive. Yes, in you need prescription glasses, you may need to wait for 4-6 days for them, but this is always explained. read more

Although I didn't buy anything the other day, I will. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and helpful with me when I came in, which initially I was there just kicking the tires (waiting for the woman to finish up shopping across the street). I am in the market for glasses but was looking around at other shops and didn't find anything that jumped out at me... at RM within 3 pairs I found the ones I'll be picking up. A little expensive but ya know, these aren't just an accessory for every now and then - it's optics for your face which have to have comfort, style and complement your face/character. The customer service in this place is just horrible,Keep in mind you are paying an exuberant amount of money for a product they tell you is top Notch quality , Well ...."IT'S NOT". Hand made in France ...Blah , blah , blah ,., Restrospect eyewear , which it's a line of "Real Vintage" eyewear/Sunglasses that are sold at RM stores are very expensive (still can't believe I felt for that one) .,Imagine buying a pair of old metal eyewear on EBay for $10 bucks, replace the nose piece ,clean them well, Now add brand new clear lenses or make them into sunglasses and sell them for $500-$900 or more.....C'mon are you serious. For some time now, I have been familiar with the Robert Marc store on Madison Avenue close to my office and decided to bring my wife over to the West Village location when I finally needed a new pair of prescription eyeglasses. I needed her opinion and the store is conveniently located close to our place. They have a large selection of pretty nice frames. The reason why I rate this place with 1 star is due to the poor service and outrageous prices for lenses. Firstly, I was quoted $500 for a pair of thin lenses that I could buy at SEE down the street for almost half the price. I wouldn't recommend purchasing lenses here. Secondly, the salesperson who said his name was Igor, was extremely rude to me and my wife. He was condescending and not interested in hearing my wife's opinions or suggestions about which pair looked better on me. He was pushy and made me feel like I needed to buy what he was recommending. In the end, we were completely turned off by the unpleasant interaction and decided to shop elsewhere. read more

I have purchased several pairs of glasses at this shop since it opened. But the present sales help and the vague pricing which has escalated into the stratosphere, has made me decide that I'll shop elsewhere. What used to cost me $450-550 here, now they want $785 for a pair of plastic glasses? Sold by a depressed, frumpy,r blase, and rather vulgar sales girl,who when I balked at the price, shrugged and said, " It's only money." I looked at her chipped and broken nails and decided that was the last time I would overpay for frames and left. I went to 20-20 over on 8th Street where they charge half the price for equally chic glasses, and are far less blase, and much more knowledgeble and enjoyable to do business with. read more

My favorite eyewear shop and favorite Robert Marc location. First the glasses. The quality cannot be beat. The designs are very tasteful and the build quality of their glasses from France and Japan are unbeatable. The designs have just enough fashion forward in them w/o making people stare at you. This location has a very good selection, but even more helpful is the staff. They really know what looks good and more important what does not look good on you. While it is obvious that they want to make a sale, they do it in such a nice way. They don't actually pressure you into buying anything. Be prepared to spend for this quality and service. Many of my prescription eyewear from this place is $1000 out the door. At the same time, I wear their stuff forever...unless I lose them somewhere. read more

I've been looking for glasses in the Washington, DC area for over 6 months. I've tried on designer, no-name, any frames that would look good on me. However, every time it got to a point where I either had to spend close to $1000 to get what I wanted, or I was stuck with settling. At Robert Marc, I tried on *several* frames that would have worked great, meeting all of my criteria. I picked a pair that I just didn't want to take off in the store! The sales rep was just the right balance of cool and complimentary but also genuine so that I trusted him. I bought the glasses and am getting them in the mail today! First - I uploaded a review to the wrong store so here it is again: I have not bought anything from this store as yet. I will update when I do so... that is WHEN not IF. I have a VERY hard time finding cool glasses and sunglasses that fit my little friggin' head. I just bought frames at my eye doctor and must have had my eyes too dilated to really see the glasses. I haven't bought any glasses in far too long and, yes, it is time to get the reading portion added to my already blind prescription. The frames and the lenses were hella expensive at my doc. I just really needed a pair of glasses. These seemed to be cool when I bought them but not so much. I won't even tell you what I spent. For the same amount of money, I could have had a sweet-ass pair of glasses from Robert Marc. They have super stylish glasses and all types and colors. Beverly helped me out and was kind enough to give my dog a treat as well. Beverly really knows what looks good on you and what doesn't. I wanted a super funky pair and she was like, um, no. In other words, she's not just saying you look good in something if you don't. Also, there as a gentleman there but I did not get his name. I don't know if he was the owner but he adjusted my glasses perfectly without having me sit there and have him fiddle with them. Put them on - presto! He was very cool too - and told me that they could do Progressive lenses on much cooler and smaller glasses that they monstrosity on my face. That opened up the door to the kinds of glasses that I've always wanted but can never find. They put me into their records for when I decide to come back and buy another pair of glasses. I'm actually excited to get a pair now. Who knew??!! -- Great selection -- Beautiful glasses in elegant, sophisticated, modern and fashionable styles -- Well made glasses/frames -- Lovely shop -- Sweet and helpful people -- Cool glasses accessories - i.e. cool little chains so you don't lose your reading glasses if you're as old as I've just realized I am (is that a sentence?) Very very poor customer service. When I asked to have the glasses so I can take them to my doctor and use my insurance to put the lenses in, Natasha The manager started to give me attitude because she would not get the commission for the $400 cost of putting in the lenses. She told me to pay $15 for shipping in addition to the cost of the glasses. When I asked to just return them and so I can buy them from my doctor office she would not return my money either even though the glasses never left their shop. These stores have horrible customer service and there is no backing from the brand. read more

Top notch eyeglass store w/ wonderful customer service. I've had Robert Marc glasses prior in Chicago but this time I went w/ Lunor. I gave them my prescription which was over a year old. When I got the glasses, I immediately felt like something was off. Got my eyes re-examined and sure enough, my eyes were worse. Robert Marc gladly changed out the lenses at no charge whatsoever.
