My family visits Ogunquit each year and Roberto's is one of our first restaurant stops! Coming from northern NJ we are used to good Italian food, and this place does not disappoint. Service is always excellent and they're on Open Table which makes it easy to reserve a table in a tourist town. The menu is very extensive - from pasta dishes to seafood to Italian classics there is something for everyone. During our last trip we went twice so I was able to try several dishes - appetizer standouts include the burrata, mussels, and beef carpaccio. My FAVORITE entree is the seafood fra diavlo - filled with shrimp, lobster and scallops with just the right amount of spice. The risotto dishes are also super yummy but very filling. Made a reservation and got seated fairly quickly. Outside space was okay, but should raise more of the window flaps - a little noisy and let the air flow, right?. Then bad service started.....Waited 30 minutes for menu. One waitress brought water and was surprised other did not bring menus. After getting menus ordered some drinks and since it was already after 9 ordered dinner at same time. Drinks came slowly about another 30 minutes with the bread. Dinner didn't come until after 10pm ! Major kitchen breakdown...we were not only ones, seemed to be some controversy inside as well when I took a trip to restroom. Food when it did arrive was lackluster and not worth waiting that long for nor probably the regular amount of time. I can't get excited about Roberto's, they're busy on weeknights but I'm not sure why. The house wine is about what you're expect from a house wine, the food is no better than I could make at home, and the poor server was overworked and wasn't having much success in keeping up with all the tables. It's not that I wouldn't go back but there are so many better places that I'll probably suggest one as an alternative if anybody wants to go to Roberto's. Of the four dishes we had, only the halibut was worth having again. The other three meals? As we were asking each other about our meals, the consistent answer was an unenthusiastic "it's okay." The other reviews for Roberto's make me think that our experience was fairly typical. Parking is also difficult so if you're staying in Ogunquit and Roberto's is within walking distance, definitely leave the car at the hotel. I haven't dinged the restaurant for the lack of parking or the tiny oil lamp/candle that wouldn't stay lit, but they're sort of a metaphor for the rest of the experience. If you just got into town and you haven't asked around, you can go to Roberto's and not get sick. But if it's a special occasion, you might want to rule this place out, do a little research, and have a better meal. Yelp's official definitions of 2 and 3 stars are "Meh. I've experienced better" and "A-OK." Roberto's is closer to 2 than three stars. read more

Waiting an hour and a half and STILL hearing "your order is second in line," is absolutely inexcusable. What is most disappointing, is that neither the waitress nor management provided ANY explanation for their lack of service. Their solution was to just ignore us. REALLY?? In the service business?? I suggest they pursue an alternate strategy. For example, if they are experiencing a staffing issue, limit the amount of customers you seat. Don't jam the restaurant and then provide terrible service. At a minimum, warn the customers that there will be a wait. I can't comment on the food because we never got it. DO NOT GO HERE!!! If I was able give a 0 rating I would, however the forum does not allow for it. We started out with the intention of relaxation in a beautiful garden setting with the promise of good food. However, what we got was nothing short of a nightmare. Knowing it was a Saturday night during Labor Day weekend, we prepared by making a reservation in advance. We arrived 10 min early and weren't seated until 20 min after our reserved time. Once seated, we received menus, and were left sitting there for over 20 min. During this time, we observed tables being seated after us, receiving water, bread and putting their drink orders in. When our server finally came to our table we put our orders in for our drinks and food; hoping this would make things more efficient. Unfortunately, we had to wait at least another 20 min without drinks, water, bread, or even our candle being lit; all while seeing the tables around us receiving these things ahead of us. At one point, the server even sat her friends and attended to them right away. It was at this time, my friend went inside to find out what was going on. Shortly thereafter, we received our drinks and were told that the owner would be out to speak with us. Prior to the owner arriving, we received our wedge salad ( still no bread), which was wilting and had very poor flavor; we sent this back. The owner finally came to our table, and began berating my friend as he pointed out the challenges we were having. My friend is a 2 tour combat Vet with PTSD. I could tell he was getting upset and I attempted to redirect the conversation by indicating that I would explain the situation. The ower refused and was screaming that this may not be the place for us, and that waiting 30 min for beer and wine to be served was perfectly normal. This woman was offensive and rude and continued to attempt to insight and argument. We finally stood up and walked out, as we would not tolerate her verbal abuse and inconsideration. I have worked for numerous years in the hospitality business, and I have never experienced such unprofessionalism, disrespect and gross incompetence. I will never be back to this establishment, nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. read more

I will start with the positive ... the server was lovely. The olive oil dip served with the bread was tasty, but other tham that there isn't much to talk about. The food took a while to come out. I asked if my child's food can come out as soon as possible but was told they couldn't control that. We ordered a cup of lobster bisque and a wedge salad. It took about 3O minutes for these two items to be served and not sure why. The lobster bisque tasted like eating a broth of butter and the wedge salad was actually tasty. Our main dishes were lobster ravioli which wasn't warm enough and the sauce tasted like the same as the lobster bisque sauce. My husband had the penne bolognese which was underwhelming and also not warm enough. I find overall Ogonquit restaurants struggle with food quality and creating a full service dining experience. DO NOT GO HERE. I don't want to give this place any stars. My Mom and I had a horrifying experience, and I've never felt so disrespected. We went to the restaurant on a Thursday night. It was busy , and our waitress was overwhelmed with work. This was fine, to a point, as we are patient people (and we've worked in retail, so we get it). It took 20 minutes to get water and order, another 25 to get our drinks and bread (which we had to ask for), and another 20ish to get our cold meals. Even upon asking for our food to be heated up, it came out luke warm. Upon asking to speak with the owner (after assuring our waitress that we saw how hard she was working and wasn't blaming her), she tried to guilt us into not talking to the owner. This was when things got horrifying. It took the owner 30ish minutes to come over to us. At first she listened and seemed to care, though was short with us; she offered to comp our drinks (1 soda and 1 glass of wine). We explained how disappointed we were; she then began to mock my Mom, calling her "This One" while telling me that it was our fault that dinner went the way it did (our food was cold because we sat next to the window). She also completely threw the waitress under the bus, blaming everything on her. She threatened to call the cops on us, and got very loud to the point that other patrons were watching. As we stood up to leave she followed us to the door, yelling "Goodbye ::Name::!" (my Mom shared her name with her to assert herself against being called "This One"). I was shaken all night and into the next day. This summary doesn't get across just how horrifying the experience was. After dinner I went on Yelp and read numerous other reviews that note very similar experiences. I don't think I would have believed them had I not had an experience of my own. I also worry about the staff; if the owner can treat patrons this way, how does she treat those working for her? I will not go back, obviously, and feel uncertain about returning to the area at all as I was triggered all weekend just by walking by the restaurant. This is a horrible way to treat other humans, never mind a horrible way to run a business. Has definitely declined since Covid. Ate here 3 years ago and it was a wonderful experience from the food , to the service , to the outside seating. We visited again this year ( post Covid) and man have things changed. Caesar salad was horrible with chewy croutons and greasy disc of parmesian cheese. Ordered blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream but they had no vanilla ice cream ( really???) go to the nearest hannafords to get some.. substituted moose tracks ice cream.... Moose tracks and blueberry pie ??? Okay whatever. Coffee came halfway through our desserts. Brown paper over table cloths, salty muscles ,tiny , tasteless clams casino. The only good thing was our entrees we got braised ribs with risotto and seafood fra diavalo both tasty. Notcc be worth the money. Time to hang it up Roberto or go back to your previous service. If i could give zero stars I would. Short staffed and utterly rude from the manager to the waiters/waitresses. Took 50 minutes for us to get our appetizers. During that that wait, they brought out entrees intended for another table, dropped them on our table and left before we could even say "these are not ours". Then they came back after we spoke to the manager. They took the food without an apology. The manager did not apologize. Oh wait. They also had reserved us a table outside and confirmed it twice prior to our arrival, however when we arrived... no table. no apologies. Went here on May 4 for a girl's night. We had been planning and anticipating this night for several weeks leading up to this weekend and we had reservations. We had gone here before in the past and had a wonderful experience. Well, that was not the case on this evening. It wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night, but when we were seated, we were told that there was a large party in the other room and that our orders may be a little delayed. We said, "no problem." From then on, it was one thing after another; we got the wrong drinks, (that took forever to arrive),under-filled glasses of wine, wrong pasta on some of the entrees and some not even hot. We were a little concerned that we had made reservations here after reading some recent reviews. Our concerns were unfounded. The food was very good as was the service. Yes a bit pricey but it's Ogunquit. We had white Sangria which was just right, not too sweet. For appetizers we had 6 blue point oysters and a goat cheese and beet salad both fresh and tasty. For main courses, it was lobster risotto and pan fried haddock. Again, both very good. For dessert strawberry gelato and a lemon cake. Service was very friendly and attentive. read more

Excellent tomato sauce, my salad was below par but my husband enjoyed the mussels. My husband had veal Marsala Scallopine, I had the grilled zucchini; we both enjoyed our entrees. We had a nice Pinot Noir (Mark West). We had dessert! I had the mud pie, my husband had the bombe, both good (back to diets tomorrow!). The room was nice, I asked for a quiet table, they did their best. BUT: they cannot control their patrons. Loudest people, ever. I am not one to hate a place and usually I am a very patient person but this place was very disappointing. We decided Roberto's because we were looking for a nice place to end our night at Ogunquit. Roberto's outdoor seating was quite charming and romantic. Parking was easy and we parked behind the house. We noticed there was no outdoor host/ hostess to seat us so I had to go inside and request to be seated. We were seated by 7:35pm. Soon after a waitress came by and placed our order around 7:45pm. Here is where the problem begins.... First off, we are in a pandemic and outdoor social distancing was absent at Roberto's. Our two-seated table was not 6 feet apart from other tables. I had to wait, with our masks on, until one of the guests were done with their table to request social distancing practice from a busboy. That took about 15 minutes of waiting while we already had our drinks on the table but did not drink it because it was not a safe distance. Once that was over another waitress came and took our entree requests at around 7:45pm. The waitress NEVER told us in the begin that all entrees take an average of an hour. Was it a busy night? Yes, but not to the point of an hour wait for an entree. We noticed people being served their entrees left and right in a timely manner. What we did notice that the waitresses and busboys were questioning who had our table. Meaning, which waitress was responsible for our table. We also noticed that their was a lost of lack of communication from our waitress to the kitchen or as she said "the Chef". At 8:53pm we were served a basket of bread twice, coke twice and a Stella yet no entrees. It was by this time the waitress informed us that the Chef makes everything from scratch and it takes an average of an hour to make our entree. To give them 6 minutes and she would have our entrees ready for us to eat. I was understanding but did tell the waitress that if we didn't have our entrees by 9pm we were going to cancel our entree orders. AT 8:59PM, over an hour waiting for our entrees we were finally served. Yet the joke was on us. I ordered a Lobster Risotto and my husband a Lazy Lobster with grill potatoes. A risotto takes about 15 minutes to cook and chopped lobster about the same time give or take. My portion of the Lobster Risotto was for two servings but the risotto was NOT fully cook or al dente! The creme for the risotto was not fully blended and it seems it was sitting on a hot plate for a while. I was too hungry to argue and I did some slim pickings on the entree. My husband's entree, Lazy Lobster, was a small serving, ideally for a child. The Lazy Lobster is just buttered-up CHOPPED lobster and the potato cut fries that were over seasoned and burnt! He was too hungry and ate what he could. It took over an hour for these two entrees! Actually, these entrees are under their specialty menu. I did not take home the remainder of the Lobster Risotto. After we ate we received the check and to our surprise we got fully charged. No manager or chef came to our table to apologize and neither did the waitress. She only explain to us that there was a wait for home-aid amateur entrees. CONCLUSION: We don't recommend this place for their lack of hospitality, poor waiter to kitchen communication/ operation, lack of proper customer service and most importantly lack of social distancing. They were lucky to get 10% tip from us. Hopefully the tip goes to the busboys for their good service on constantly filling our cup with water all this time! I hope this helps to who ever read this! Zero stars. Extremely short staffed in the kitchen as well as the front staff. Our waitress was poorly trained. One of our party tried to order an item he had seen on Roberto's website but was told they no longer make it. Our waitress spilled a whole glass of wine on the table and floor and never wiped it up. We ordered 3 different entrees and all three were terrible. Two people ordered manicotti which came cold in the center, pasta not cooked and way too much red sauce that tasted like it came from a can. Sent it back and the repeat was no better. All of the meals were very salty. We were seated for over an hour before we received our entrees. Over priced and terrible food. Bill was $200. for a horrible meal. Go someplace else! read more

I ate at the pizzeria next door and it was really good! I got the 4 cheese pizza (Has a fancier name then that) and had a beer while I was waiting for it. The man making the pizza was very friendly and we had a good conversation while it was being made/prepped. I was very thankful it was open because it is seemingly very hard to find food at night around here. My pizza was delicious! I am not normally a fan of thin crust but wow it was so good. Underwhelming to say the least. This place felt like a ripoff by the end of the meal. We made reservations and were seated quickly. The waitress was friendly and seemed knowledgeable about the menu. Everyone at our table had cocktails and while they were quite good, they seemed to take quite a while to arrive. The bar was so backed up the waitress told us to order another round at least 10-15 min in advance. I ordered the mussels appetizer and this was very good. A good amount of mussels and a white wine garlic broth that was delicious. For 17 dollars this felt right. My entree however was an utter disappointment. I had the seafood fra diavolo and was dismayed by what I was served. For 38 freakin dollars I expected a fair amount of seafood. The menu said "lobster, sea scallops and jumbo shrimp"...I had three scallops, two small shrimp and not even a claws worth of lobster meat. I didn't expect the moon, but I expected more than this in Ogunquit. I have had many fra diavolo dishes at many restaurants and this was by far the worst I ever had. The pasta was supposedly linguini, it was not fresh pasta and looked like spaghetti and linguini mixed. The dish was swimming in what tasted like jarred marinara sauce. It was not anything special and not spicy at all. Definitely not fra diavolo. I cannot overstate how underwhelming and of poor quality this dish was. Another in my party got the rack of lamb. This was good, but the lamb cut was small. The third in our party got the lobster papperdalle. She had had this here two years previously. While it was the best dish on the table, it was markedly different with less lobster, lesser quality pasta and almost no sauce compared to previous visits. The bread and dipping oil was a highlight, which is probably a problem. The staff was attentive and quick, but we could hear them bickering at times. Service from the kitchen and bar were simply too slow. Overall, this place is not worth it. There are much better places in a five mile radius. For a 220 dollar bill, I expected much more. read more

It's actually an insult to my Italian heritage. I vow never to go back! I kept trying it again and again, hoping that it might have been just a bad night for them. Nope, it is not an enjoyable experience!!!!! The food is very amateur, they have no idea what they are doing. The Marsala was like buffalo wing sauce, disgusting. I used to enjoy the bar, it's cozy and it was a great place to talk and meet new people. The bartenders are ridiculously rude!!! Service is so bad that it's actually a joke! Last night every single person sitting at the bar was mad at the service and we later randomly met up at other places and we laughed at how bad it was, and how rude they were. Even the owner! More of a selection of wines by the glass than just one red and one white. Convenient location just beyond the truly packed area of town so it had a more mellow vibe. Would go again. read more

Ogunquit is our happy place and we spend as much time visiting as we can, that's it. I have yet to have a bad experience at any of the restaurants in town - well I take that back, Rose Cove was atrocious and the hostess needs to be put out to pasture - but lets talk Roberto's! When we are in town, typically we will stick to seafood, particularly lobster. Living in Central Mass, seafood just doesn't have the same appeal. Under the advice of a friend who highly recommended Roberto's we made a reservation the same day on a Saturday - they really didn't have availability, but they made accommodations for our party of 4. I will admit that I was a little leery based on other reviews, and I am glad we took the chance! Roberto's has been run by the same owner for many years, the menu is impressive, and the quality of the food was excellent and memorable. The wait staff were all amazing, most from other countries working in Maine for the summer, and were engaging, friendly, and fun. The seafood linguini was fresh and delicious, and enough for 2 people. The veal was tender and cooked to perfection... The bread was fresh... Robertos is a beautiful restaurant and the complimentary (and only option) valet parking is very appreciated as Ogunquit isn't overflowing with available parking. There is outdoor and indoor dining. We sat inside. A suggestion would be to close the windows because it was HOT, even with the air conditioned pockets you could feel here and there. The staff is friendly. The chicken cacciatore was delicious. The linguine with olive oil and garlic could have used a lot more garlic and salt. It was super bland. The sausages were great. The meatballs tasted good and were really large. The kids whined when they were "only" getting one but it was like 3 normal meatballs in size. :) Everyone was happy with the rest of the food. Service is slow. Always has been each time we've been there. They didn't seem to have many "main" servers. More water and bread servers. I would love if they expanded their menu a little. We had reservations for 5 thru open table. We were seated in a back room overlooking the back parking lot. The highlight of the evening was watching the valet park cars with precision, the cars were within inches of each other. We wanted to start with apps , seafood chowder (supposedly , award winning) and caprese salad. Weirdly , our waitress said we had to put our entire order in all at once. I was not sure what to order and I wanted to look over the menu. I ordered from a 5-6 early bird special. For 18.95 you get choice of soup or salad, entree, and desert. The eggplant parmigiana was mandolin thin ,shaved long ways . It was so thinly cut, it wasn't as thick as a lasagna noodle. There was cheese between the bottom 2 layers. It was oddly crispy and not at all like I've ever had before. It came with a side of bland pasta. The choice of desert was vanilla ice cream or a cannoli. Again, I had to choose my desert in advance and our waitress suggested the cannoli in case I was too full, as it traveled better than the ice cream. I'm close to 60 and have been dining out for many years . This experience was a first. My husband ordered off the main menu. Spicy seafood fra diavolo for 38. No soup or salad included. The seafood chowder was thin( he likes a thicker chowder) , nothing special. The caprese salad was just plain awful. Mealy , pale colored tomatoes that you can only find in the dead of winter at the grocery store. Where were the native , juicy red summer tomatoes? It was sooooo not worth it . We were on vacation with friends In Ogunquit and searched for an Italian restaurant. We found Roberto's and we're thrilled with our find. Friendly atmosphere from the moment we valet parked. Appetizers and entrees were excellent. Our waitress could not have been any more accommodating and amiable. We were a little worried by the mixed reviews. Without a doubt, this is one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in a tourist destination. I've come to expect little from most tourist towns given they don't have to work as hard - sometimes you just pay for the view. However, Robertos stands alone in a category of "Poor" on all measures. 1st, my reservation note indicated a severe nut allergy that was not communicated to any staff. 2nd, the flatbread had pesto in it and was not labeled as such on the menu. I noticed it before taking what could have been a literally fateful bite. 3rd, the food was atrociously bad. I knew shouldn't expect much with 35+ items on the menu, but our replacement flatbreads were soggy, clam/linguini dish was rancid and my grilled lamb entree was covered in oily demi glace.Ick. I mean truly inedible and had to down some Pepto pills later that night. Lastly, the establishment could have cared less. When our very nice waitperson went to bat for us and tried to get the manager and owner to talk with us, they apparently chose not to - WTH?!? They comped us for a few dishes - but they did not recognize they had a big problem. I have never seen such disregard for a customer. Outside of the horrible food, I really do want to issue a cautionary tale to restauranteurs about allergies. I did disclose my issue and it was not communicated. I could have ended up in the hospital and much worse could have ensued depending on how long I had to get to a hospital. Please, please, please take this seriously. read more

How can I say, soooo disappointed. And we were regulars, not summer stroll people. We have dined here several times, but after our experience tonight, we don't be back. I ordered the chicken picatta as I have in the the past, and tonights serving was so loaded with melted butter, it made my stomach churn after the second bite. After my husband was on his second to last bite of his meal, we were able to flag down our server to ask for something else. He was less than apologetic, nor willing or wanting to keep a customer happy. The bigger disappointment came when we approached the owner, who was irritated and argumentative. We've been coming here for years during our trip to ogunquit. It seems like the restaurant was very short staffed, not sure if it's related to covid. We had dinner reservations at 7pm, were seated around 7:30, and waited another half hour before a waiter came to take drink others. The waiters were stressed out and couldn't handle the amount of tables they were taking care of. If prompt service is important to you, I would recommend making a much earlier reservation and hopefully that would help with waiting a normal time for food. However we empathized with the waiter as it was not their fault. This is the first time that we've seen this kind of disorganization at Roberto's. We had the herb crusted haddock and lobster pappardelle. The lobster pappardelle was very good, with a proper amount out lobster chunks. The sauce was excellent and it was a great fish overall! The haddock was served with good tomatoes, spinach with breading, roasted garlic, and cappellini pasta. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy, we got take out from the pizzeria and it was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in a while, they laughed at my name and it was WAY over charged, the food was bad. Ok I thought the food was good but the mgmt was horrific. We sat and didn't receive our food for 1:45!! We ordered 3drinks and apps just waiting... Got it - maybe you had too few employees but tell your customers. For 3 pasta dishes you will have to wait almost two hours. There was no comp of drinks/desert and the managers response was "meals were to order" and the tavern rule - basically f*** yourselves. Sorry - this is not COVID - this is rude. The manager said that we would wait at McDonald's - really?!? Keep that bar low. If you are that behind - just let people know. If we knew that we would wait two hours for pasta that should have been our decision. I'm in customer service and this is unacceptable. They can't complain about how many people they serve and then make them wait and be intolerant about customer delays. I support restaurants but if you want takeout and not eatin then push that. Don't seat people and then complain about it. The manager needs a career change. read more
