I used to love this place. Great good and convenient location. But lately, they don't pick up the phone for call in orders, and they tell you to leave a message but they don't check their messages. I called twice today about 3pm and got their VM. When I arrived, there were 2 women behind the counter. When I told them I had called and no one picked up, they played dumb. I ordered my food and waited about 15 min. When I picked up my to-go order I asked for 5 salsas and the woman told me I could only have 4. What is up with limiting hot sauces? Their customer service has gone down hill . And I have to say that the food was just mediocre. The roiled tacos had a tiny amount of guacamole. Time to find a new fast food Mexican food go to place. read more

As a San Diego native I've eaten Mexican food my entire life!! Recently moved to north county and decided I wanted a burrito. Boy was I in for a surprise!! Not only is the food here GROSSLY overpriced, it was the smallest portion I've EVER seen. I've eaten at Roberto's my whole life, and this one needs to be SHUT DOWN! They are robbing the community of Leucadia. The pic I've posted is the size of a $8 burrito. I'm an Executive Chef, I know what 2 oz of protein is. Also, 3 rolled tacos for $4.89. Major RIP OFF. Most taco shops are pretty similar, and Roberto's is not much different. It is cleaner than most, and it has nice outdoor seating and friendly staff. To me, what separates one taco shop from the rest is their salsa, and Roberto's two salsas (a red and a green) are pretty average, therefore I can't give a five star rating. This review is about a large takeout order I placed in September 2019 for a beach party I was hosting for 50 people. I placed the food order as instructed by Roberto's two days prior to my event. I had asked for the order to be ready at 5:30 pm for pickup on a Friday. The staff said no problem, the food will be ready. I even called mid day on Friday to update my large order. Well, the food wasn't ready. The large trays of rice and beans came out first. The rest of my order (a variety of burritos & quesadillas) was filled in between other walk-in orders. This made me feel like my $375 order wasn't important or a priority. I know the one cook in the kitchen was super busy trying to expedite my order, plus everyone else's. I felt so badly for her! Cashiers were apologetic for the wait, & pitched in help box the food when they had a moment to spare. My large to go order was finally finished at 7 pm! This is a problem. 1 1/2 hours late is a not acceptable time frame. On a positive note, every item was delicious & the burritos are very large. At my party, some of the burritos were piping hot, while some were lukewarm from the long wait (how unappetizing). The rice & beans were also lukewarm. My beach party is a annual event. Unfortunately, I feel I cannot count on Roberto's as I have in years past. Time for me to find another local restaurant that can have a large order ready to go when promised. read more

I used to live in SD and Roberto's was one of my go to places for great carne asada and guacomole (the two things I use to measure a Mexican restaurant). You would think, now that I live in LA, I could find something comparable. Not.even.close. I've literally tried dozens of Mexican restaurants and not found any place that serves up carne asada or guacomole as good as Roberto's. I make sure to grab some food every time I'm back down in SD. What a loss. We've been coming here for decades and it was always wonderful. This week I went with my family and it was terrible. There was hardly any guacamole on the rolled tacos. They were dry. The meat was tough. The Carne Asada taco was tasteless. It was a huge disappointment. I read on Yelp that the Solana Beach Roberto's is newly terrible as well. Since then we've gone to the Roberto's on Carmel Valley Road and the one on Clairemont Blvd and both of them are as good as ever. Yummy, crunchy rolled tacos with plenty of tasty guacamole, and tender flavorful Carne Asada with great guacamole and salsa are as good as ever at those other locations. Go there. Big fan of Roberto's and been a loyal customer at all of their locations for 20+ years. Imagine my excitement when I realized for the first time ever that they have HASH BROWNS in addition to French fries! Ordered my usual bean, cheese & rice burrito and added hash browns - delish! The real bummer was the side of guac I ordered. Now I have ordered this before and gotten a hearty side in a styrofoam cup. But today was a much different experience. I get that it's a pricier fixin, but $1.35 for a SALSA CUP SIZE side of guacamole is absurd. Additionally, receipt states it's a 2 oz serving but the cup is only 1.5 oz. Total bummer. I happened on this place when I was hungry and it was the first place i saw. Due to the circumstances of its discovery I figured it would be mediocre at best. I ordered the light burrito, which is basically fajitas with no meat. I was pleasantly surprised that not only was the burrito delicious, the atmosphere on the patio was also a pleasant way to enjoy the evening. I especially liked that the beans were pinto beans, as I find most taco shops only have refried and the tortilla was also tasty. Overall an easy go-to when you don't want to deal with parking and just want some reliable Mexican food. read more

Roberto's or as most call it Buttsquirto's. I love Roberto's. Are they all created equal? Nope! Some are better than others. This one is good and most important, close to the beach. Something about sun and sand makes you crave mexican food. You're sitting on the beach and your thoughts place you on vacation in mexico like a bright flashing burrito shining over your head. That's it, the monkey on your back is hungry for a fix. Well the monkey no habla engles so take him to Roberto's ASAP. Here's what the monkey eats. Rolled tacos made from slaughtered cattle are great here but you must get em with guacamole even if you don't like Guacamole. Scrape it off and bring it to me. They really make it right. Carne Asada burritos are always great here and they don't try to screw you by adding beens. God I hate that trick. Or feed him Machaca, a Quesadilla or anything. Monkeys aren't picky, THEY'LL EAT POOP.. This place is clean inside and out. It's so hard to rate a place like this, because I feel like it's pretty obvious what you're getting yourself into when you walk into a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place with relatively cheap prices. The food here is okay. I've had the cheese enchiladas and the bean tostada, and both were really mediocre, but they fill the empty stomach. Do I crave this place? No, not at all. I liked my rolled taco platter. I loved how much guacamole they put on them. I didn't like the corn tortillas, they were too chewy (I would have preferred soft or crispy). Who cares that i'm going to El Callejon this evening for happy hour? I'm going to have Mexican for lunch and I'm going to go where I haven't been. I've never been to this Roberto's even though it's in my locus of driving, because it's a bit out of the way and my regular circuit. I was sidetracked because I wanted to see if another place was open so I could nab another FIRST! but I digress. It's been awhile since I had been to a Roberto's. I had a personal moratorium on anything BERTO. But I have noticed that they've cleaned up their act and are kinda on the same wavelength as Santana's - that is - a bit more organized - and establishing (or re-establishing as opinion) itself as a local chain. I have no problem with that. Business wasn't busy but it was steady. I had placed and received my order real quick. Puntos para Robert. This Robert's is small with little indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is very clean with staff in uniforms?! Good job! That carne asada burrito (my tester burrito because how can you screw that up, right?) was very clean and tasty. I wish it was more moist, but I wasn't disappointed. It didn't drip when eating. How bizarre? Really. Rolled tacos (beef) were very clean also on a bed of well apportioned shredded cabbage and guacamole placed on the right ends of the tacos so as to facilitate use of my fingers by grabbing the other end. Funnily, I am mostly left handed and placing the guacamole on the right side only benefited my eating experience. I forgot to get salsa. The food here is just as you would find at any other regular taco shop. The spot is located right near la costa ave and if you drive too fast, then you will miss it. The parking lot is small but there is a nice little dirt lot right next to the place. Great place to have a nice snack near the beach after surfing or fishing. Great friendly staff. This was our third attempt at this location as it is very close to home. (We moved recently to this awesome part of Encinitas) We have lived in San Diego for 40 plus years and know the various Roberto locations. After 3 visits we can absolutely say this is a total disappointment! They literally have botched every order in some way every time. Additionally this location seems to take twice as long as any other to prepare the order. They are busy but not that busy. The Carmel Valley location near Torrey Pines beach is way busier,service is faster, and food is much better. The last straw that inspired this review was the incredibly dry carne asada burrito. Never have I experienced a care asada so bland. Additionally the rolled tacos with guacamole my son ordered had very little guacamole, cheese, or lettuce. The carne asada at this place is very tasty. Their service is pretty fast on the days that I have been there. It is very close to the beach. Parking can get jammed as there are only a few spots in front and a small dirt lot next to it. Friendly workers. Their salsa is pretty spicy and it located in the refrigerator where the sodas are. They have a bathroom for people to use, but they have you go through the kitchen to use it. Beans are not that good ( bean and cheese burrito). The size of the burritos are decent and definitely fill you up. They have minimal indoor seating. Most seats are on the patio of just outside in the dirt lot. One of four Roberto's taco stands, this one is also just as great. Keeping with the high-quality Roberto's tradition, the food is always awesome and the premesis sparkling clean. They are known for the Carne Asada burritos but they also make a great fish taco as well. It's for sure on the healthier side and the ingredients are always very fresh. This stand is at the tip of Luecadia just below Pontos a.k.a. South Carlsbad State Beach. There are always cars in front and at night the neon sign glows with flavor. read more

The messiah of burritos, Robertos is a mexican burrito making God. Social Distortions Lead singer Mike even mentioned that he went to Robertos before going on stage at Street Scene. It is worth the kudos. The ocean is not too far so the environment is usually the local surf "dudes" hankering some good munch. My thumbs up: Shrimp burrito-- nobody makes it like Robertos. I'm a fan of most Roberto's locations. I ate at this one this past weekend and I have no complaints. I ordered a CA burrito (surprise!) and it was delicious. My friends ordered a couple of chicken tacos and nachos. The nachos were extra good because they were covered in cheese and then all the stuff (beans, pico, guac, sour cream) was served in big separate clumps which I thought was a nice touch. I noticed that this location serves chicken caesar salad burritos... never thought I'd see that on a Roberto's menu and will probably never try it because I can't pry myself away from the CB's. Workers were friendly, food came up fast, hot sauce was decent. Overall- it was yet another good taco shop experience to add to the list. read more
