Two words "DOG FOOD" that is what my last Carne Asada burrito tasted like. I don't know what it is with this place but sometimes it's so good and other times they can't make it right. I just had the worst experience at this place. I've gone here countless times, but I'm afraid this time was my last. We ordered a shredded beef tostada and Carne asada fries. The tostada was completely missing the shredded beef, which we were charged for, it was slopped together with zero care, and for some reason had a ton of liquid in the box. I'm guessing from the lettuce? It was so soggy, I could fold it in half like a soft taco. Gross. I took two bites and lost my appetite. I'd give those 5-stars, but that wasn't my only experience. In the same visit, my girlfriend ordered the classic chicken burrito. It tasted good. However, she found not one, but two bones in her burrito. it was also a super-juicy mess by the time she was halfway done. I went in earlier today, and we ordered a couple of their breakfast burritos. One potato, egg, & cheese; one sausage, egg, & cheese. It came out to $9.18 for the two. I thought that didn't match up with their menu price, but I let it slide. The cashier was rude to me, so I didn't want to talk to him any more than I had to. It turns out they did two potato, egg, & cheese and just added sausage to one. That's why it rang up too high. They were both terrible. The burritos were very wet inside. The eggs had a rubbery texture, and the potatoes were almost raw. Why did the food take so long when it wasn't even fully cooked? I don't know. That was a negative experience. The store in lakeside used to be my fav restaurant. I say used to be because lately the food quality and service has gotten horrible!! The order is never right even though I specifically ask them about the items. Also, SHAME on you!! If I could give this place zero starts I would!! My sister ordered a burrito with sour cream on the side, a large drink and when she got to the window her order was wrong. This Roberto's is like that horse in The Wizard of Oz that keeps changing color. One time they knock my socks off and the next time the food is dry and overcooked and the next time it is smaller and the next time it is incredible. What's up? The first carne asada burrito I had here was unbeatable. Really. Made perfect, everything fresh. too big to finish, just awesome. The next time, I got a breakfast burrito that was the same way, just awesome and too much to finish. Sometimes I walk up, sometimes I drive thru - it depends on how many cars are in line but there is no place to eat inside, only tables outside so that is a good thing to remember. Sometimes the wait is 15 minutes, sometimes only a few (4-7 mins which is pretty good for Mexican fast food). This last time I went, the carne asada was really way overdone and the whole order wasn't very good at all. I just don't get. So here's the deal. Go there when the food is good and you will be VERY happy that you did and never go there when the food isn't so good and you will be very happy that you went to Sarai's instead, which is my personal favorite spot for Mexican food in Lakeside. read more

Disappointed in this place. I ordered a breakfast burrito a little while back, it was bland - no flavor except the salsa I put on it. Today I gave it another try and went for rolled tacos, waited in the drive thru line for 15 minutes, get to the window and she tells me $7.29...for 5 rolled tacos?!?! She said "with everything on it it's extra." Ummm, ok...I just ordered what was on the menu and the price was $4.25, which I told her. What's "everything" that made the price jump $3.04?? She said she added sour cream and lettuce. So sour cream and lettuce on 5 rolled tacos (that I didn't even order) is over $3 extra!! She was polite and offered to give them to me for $4.59, but I did not want sour cream, etc on my rolled tacos, nor did I want to wait another 10 minutes. I went to Roberto's on Thanksgiving morning to pick up some Breakfast burritos for my wife and I. I ordered two burritos. One with ham and one with no meat. When I got my order I only received one burrito. So I told the guy that I had ordered two and repeated my order. The guy then rudely said "well that will be another four dollars" then shut the drive through window. I could not hear what he was saying but I could tell that he was talking smack about me to the cook. After all of that when I got home we found out that they had put ham in both of the burritos. I only went to Roberto's because my usual place was closed for Thanksgiving. Next time I can't go there I will just go to Jack in Box or something instead. read more

This a 4 star review based on low flair taco shop food. (This isn't high end fare). There are a lot of options to choose from in Lakeside for Mexican food but Roberto's is my favorite. They're convenient: drive thru and open 24 hours a day. They're tasty: best carne asada anything but especially nachos. The red hot sauce is delish on everything. I came here to get rolled tacos and not spend $8 on them. They have options for orders of 3, for $4.50 with cheese and guacamole. It's 50 cents to upgrade the cheese only ones to have sour cream, so I figured it should cost about $5 plus tax to have both sour cream and guacamole. While I was waiting, I noticed they charge $1.49 for their hot carrots, which I always get for the jalapeño. I figured I'll ask as I'm done getting my food, and maybe they won't charge me. After waiting for about 5 minutes, a guy came on to take my order. The sound system was very poor, though, and communication was tough, but I got my order in. The guy tried to tell me the price, but it didn't come through all the way. When I got to the window, they said the price for 3 rolled tacos supreme was $7.81. I said that seems like way more than it should be, and the lady starts listing the prices for all my upgrades, including 75 cents for lettuce! I said that's way too much, and drove away as they were finishing making my order. I decided to go to my usual place, Sombreros, because their orders of 4 rolled tacos include lettuce, and to add sour cream and guacamole, it costs $7.70. And their jalapeño/carrots are free. Robertos wanted more money for less food. And they charge out the wazoo for a standard condiment that should be included anyway. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

She is rude, defensive and bitchy. She makes the experience unpleasant. She does not smile and gives off a very negative vibe. I'm so annoyed with this place. It's so frustrating. This place used to be amazing but it's going straight downhill. The last three times I've gone they've managed to screw up my order. I've ordered a bean and rice burrito and asked them for no cheese but to add guac and fries. Tell me why I got a bean and rice burrito, with cheese, and then in a SEPARATE box gave me fries with guac on top. My husband and I just laughed hysterically. Until I realized I can't even eat my burrito because I do not eat dairy. Tonight My husband ordered for me a bean tostada with no cheese. They literally only put lettuce and beans on the shell. So weird. And My husband also asked for chips with a side of guac. They literally put cheese allllll over the chips and guac... where in that did I ask for cheese? If they had any ounce of customer service skills they would see a red flag if I ordered a dish with no cheese why would they still put cheese on something that wasn't even supposed to have cheese in the first place. i used to live down the street. certainly an upgrade to the near by sombreros. the hot sauce here is actually good unlike the stuff they peddle at sombreros. funny story. as mentioned i used to live near by. one night coming home from a party with my future wife i decided i needed a machaca burrito. i was pretty toasty but my wife was smashed. she decided to play drinking games with wine. bad idea. driving down the freeway to home she tries to puke out the window. on the freeway?? another bad idea. so with my car half filled with vomit i pulled into the drive thru and ordered my burrito and ate it when we got home. the food is that good. one time on another trip my friend wes decided to climb into the window and hang out with mr robertos. that trip i got violently ill which may have been food poisoning. still went back after a month or so. love joel read more

I love this restaurant and their food is always delicious. The people are very friendly. BUT, they almost never get my order correct. Often times, I reiterate myself to ensure that they heard my entire order and they still miss something. Sometimes, it's as simple as "a breakfast burrito with no egg" and they still put egg in it.
