Hadn't been to the Tea House in a while, my wife and I decided to go for lunch yesterday. We were told they were short staffed but decided to stay since we hadn't been for a while and always enjoyed ourselves. Short staffed was understated, there was only one waitress working. We were there about 40 minutes before getting served. Not to take away from the waitress, she was doing a good job under the circumstances and was always pleasant. We had a chicken salad and humus wraps. The wraps were very good, the Ceasars salad was mediocre. The tomato soup was okay. The scones seemed different from when we were there in the past. But okay. Our bill came to 87.56 including the tip, which the waitress definitely deserved. I believe they have become over priced. Wraps at $20 seem excessive. If being short staffed was a fluke that day, that happens. But if not and you want to be high end then provide the service. I am not saying never but I will think twice before returning. read more

The experience tonight was just not good. Robinson's does a Christmas candlelight tea menu at 5 pm during the holiday season. It is $60 per adult and $45 for a child. We did this last year and had a great time. We were excited to return. They seated us on time and then took about 15 min to come around to take our tea order. We were seated right by the kitchen so we heard dishes and flatware clanging for the first 30 min. It was crazy how loud they were being. Also the light from the kitchen killed the candlelight ambiance. Around 45 min in we received our tea and then at about 1 hour in we got our first course. We wrapped up around 2 hours in. The food was good. I would go back for lunch. So why did I say this was not good? Well first the kitchen seating was terrible. No fault to the restaurant there was a lot of noise from other tables. I know a strangers entire life story since she literally shouted it to her whole table for 2 hours straight. That boss that hated her.. I can't imagine why?! The issue was really the service. They were so understaffed. To have to wait 30 min for tea and longer for food that should have been premade right before the seating is weird. There was no manager on staff. It was two waitresses severely overworked and strangely clueless about how to get food and drinks out to customers. They also didn't provide the gift for the kids or the mould wine. I'm a huge fan of afternoon tea and whenever we vacation, I'm getting one! We were delighted to see Robinson's did a British box for takeout and after contacting them, they were more than happy to accommodate an allergy for one of the breads. We didn't need it until the next day for our anniversary so we brought an ice sheet and made the 90 minute drive. The next day, I reheated the tarts and quiches. I covered the scones with a damp paper towel for 90 seconds to warm up and retain the moisture. All reheated beautifully with no loss of flake or crunch. Desserts held up well and we threw in two leftover bars we had to complete the dessert plate. Now I sit here with a full and happy tummy so happy I found this place! I got a reservation for Robinson's on OpenTable. We had their last lunch seating (3 PM) for my friend's birthday. Upon arrival we were seated promptly. The waitress came out and handed us menus and a tea menu with over 50 varieties of tea. Due to recent health issues, I couldn't eat a full meal so I chose the Petite Tea which gave me a bottomless tea pot, a scone of my choice, cucumber sandwiches, egg sandwiches, a cheese and spinach quiche, and 3 small desserts. That's the small order, folks. The cinnamon scone was delicious - a popular choice over at Robinson's. Warm and fresh and not overly cinnamon-y, it reminded me of a churro in scone form. I wasn't a fan of the egg sandwich, I found it a little dry, but the cucumber sandwich with the veggie spread was refreshing and yummy. I didn't feel like chancing the density of the quiche or desserts, so I left them for my friends to split. Speaking of, they both ordered Robinson's signature tea which was easily large enough to be Tea for Two. Much of the food was the same as my Petite Tea but with larger quantities. They also had some salmon sandwich and a hummus puff (for lack of a better explanation). One of our trio is a vegetarian, and Robinson's was happy to swap out the meat options for extra veggie-friendly ones to accommodate. The tea menu was extensive and we enjoyed tasting new teas. I had the Rose Jasmine Oolong, but my friend's Rose tea was a subtle tea blend that had me smiling as the rosy flavor swam in my head. While we chatted and observed the British decor (yes, there is a cardboard cutout of the Queen), our waitress brought out different tea leaves for us to smell. It was a fun experience. We visited as part of a birthday celebration for my girlfriend . Our waiter was great and the service was terrific . All the dishes were explained as well as the various teas. The place is charming and the food is really terrific . A special nod for the chili which was truly exceptional . We were greeted by a friendly smile and promptly seated by the window overlooking the park area in front of the restaurant. Upon the table were sweet tea cups just waiting to be filled. It was the first cold day of the fall and the tea was perfect. We first enjoyed a delicious white peach tea and then wow...the blueberry was just phenomenal. We ordered the high tea tower for two, so many treats. Starting with your choice of delicious scone served with thick raspberry jam and clotted cream on the lower tier. The middle tier was rea sandwiches chicken salad, egg salad cucumber salad, quiche, and more. The top tier was pastries, just delicious. No one rushed us. I stopped in a few days ago to get my scone fix but was brutally disappointed by the quality of the food. My child's school lunch experience is better. I got the Hummus veggie wrap and it tasted bad and looked like an inexperienced person threw a clump of low-grade hummus and veggies together with no culinary experience. It was just bad!! I was hoping the scone would make up for $20 cafeteria-grade food. The Scone was even worse. They were stale, hard, and poorly warmed up. You could taste and feel how stale they were. I had to request another one because the first was so bad. The second was a bit better, enough to stomach, but still, a failure compared to what I was used to. This is a wonderful afternoon tea! The service is so friendly, and the atmosphere is both warm and elegant. The real standout to me is the quiche. It is so good it almost makes me want to just order that instead of a whole tea service, but the tea service is so good I just can't resist. I don't drink much caffeine so I go for herbal tea. Wonderful place for some afternoon tea! We made reservations online via open table and a table was ready for us upon arrival. We had a cute set-up in the corner which was perfect for us, despite being directly next to the bathroom. The afternoon tea was $30pp and came with your choice of unlimited hot or iced tea, choice of scone with clotted cream and raspberry jam (cinnamon, chocolate chip, orange cranberry or one other option), finger sandwiches (chicken salad, egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese, quiche and a pot pie sort of dish), and a mix of finger desserts, chef's choice. I chose the raspberry tea for my first pot which was an herbal and was tasty without being overly sweet. I liked that we were able to choose a different tea for any additional pots we had, which I later chose the coconut macaroon rooibos which was also really good without being overwhelmingly coconut-flavored. The scones were warm and delicious, and while the clotted cream and jam were both good as well, the scone was yummy enough on its own to not need either of those to enjoy it. All the savory items we tried were on-point, however I do wish we were able to choose what we wanted when it came to this as we didn't care for the egg salad or cucumber sandwiches and knew in advance they would likely go to waste. Disclaimer though, I don't know if they would've allowed us to substitute or not as we didn't ask. The dessert was just as delightful as the rest of the meal and it was hard not to feel fully satisfied after! We would've sat to enjoy our second pot of tea longer however there were guests hovering that we knew were waiting for our table and we felt pressured to leave. I knew they were cutting onions since the kitchen seemed to share airspace w the dining room. Then my families eyes were watering but not as badly as mine. Even the waitresses walking around were rubbing their eyes commenting on the onions. Unfortunately they did this twice and we even mentioned it to our waitress, but what could they do? It unfortunately ruined my experience I ran to the bathroom cried my makeup off, lol. Wetted a paper towel and kept applying it to my eyes. Love love love this place! We happened upon it purely by accident while walking around Stony Brook. We intended to get fancy coffees at another coffee place in the same shopping area, but just as we ordered, they told us they were closed and out of coffee, so we moved on. It was starting to rain, and when we saw the tea room was open, we went inside and were really happy they could serve us. There were three of us during this visit; two ordered tea and split a cinnamon scone with clotted cream and jam; the third had an iced mocha shake thingy that was totally decadent! While waiting for our tea we reviewed the menu and were impressed with the diversity of offerings from their long list of teas to all the sandwiches and salads. We were a little sorry we had dinner plans and didn't want to spoil our appetites, otherwise we would have liked to have gotten food. The atmosphere here is the quintessential tea room with pleasant, friendly service, a comfy atmosphere, and lots of choices. While the clotted cream is not like I had during my high tea experiences in England, it was tasty, and the scone was perfect. I would get this again. Ive been coming here for 10 years. (Enough said!) While transitioning to new owners was a little "bumpy" in the beginning, things seemed to workout overall! While no one can ever replace James and Loretta , the previous owners, the new owner (forgive me, i forgot her name,....maybe Christina??) seemed to listen to what loyal customers wanted kept the same but also wanted our opinions on things she wanted to do differently. She has managed to keep it the same, overall, while finding little ways to change/update the appearance of both the tea house itself and the menu without scaring off existing customers. Today, after Crazy Beans told to choose any table to sit at, I was rudely, abruptly, and unpleasantly told to move tables by an employee of Robinson's Tea Room. She told me she needed the table for reservations and I had to move. The only table available was in the bright, direct, sunlight and I was with my 11 month old son. I explained the situation, she displayed zero compassion, and told me (again) that I had to move. I moved as to not cause issues and watched as Robinson's Tea Room did not sit any patrons at that table for 30 minutes (we finished eating in about 15). Thank you Robinson's Tea Room, for hiring such discourteous and impertinent employees. During an unprecedented time, in which we should all be kind to one another and make a point of supporting small, local, businesses, you have helped narrow down our choices of businesses to patronize. We enjoyed our delicious food from Crazy Beans (even in the direct sunlight) and would've enjoyed it even more so in the shade AND have been done before the other customers arrived. Do yourself a favor and eat next door at Crazy Beans. They have delicious food, wonderfully kind staff, and awesome customer service. Their decor & atmosphere is top-notch. Sigh. Always been a fan, but I have to leave this review. Made a reservation for indoors a few weeks ago, despite Covid. My mistake. I figured our numbers are down and they would properly space people inside since it's already such a small restaurant. Not so much. The place was packed and only one table was left empty. We had the option of eating outside but it was a very hot and humid day and I didn't want to deal with bees. Aside from feeling very uncomfortable eating in a small crowded space, the afternoon tea service was a disappointment. Perhaps management has changed again, or they are trying to make up for lost money. But the afternoon tea service was increased to $30 per person with half the food. (There's an $8 sharing fee, no longer mentioned on the menu, if you'd like to split it with another person, but you might be hungry in a few hours) The scones are half the size and nowhere near as delicious as they used to be. Tough to cut through. I always loved it there, but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Fun experience going for high tea! Loved the decorations. You get scones, a plate of finger sandwiches, and a plate of desserts. Plus tea! So many tea flavors, cucumber melon and rainbow cookie. Scones were out of this world. Finger foods were great, so much dessert though! I have the biggest sweet tooth, but i would have traded out one or two of the cakes for some more savory lunch options. Very good to split this large meal, but there is a surcharge of 8$ for that...might consider grabbing another small plate to add on and avoid that charge. read more
