I've dined at Romanos three times now, and I usually indulge in their veal Parmigiana and zucchini fritters, which have always been a delight. However, this visit was a veritable culinary catastrophe. The veal was so tough it could have doubled as a workout, and the coconut shrimp was practically still swimming--definitely not the beach vacation I was hoping for! My friends' spicy rigatoni was a sad affair as well. It felt as if they were rolling out the red carpet for their regulars while new patrons were left to fend for themselves. Safe to say, I won't be making a return trip

Came here right at 5:30 when it opened. It got packed around 6:30 with big tables of Italian families. I had the coconut shrimp starter. The shrimps were quite big and the crust was okay. Came with a sour spicy dipping sauce. The steak was thin, juicy, soft and not meaty tough at all. The tomato pasta has fresh basil in it and nice and chewy. There was a bread basket with sliced white artisan bread with pods of room temperature whipped butter.

Romano's is located at the south west corner of Strada and Rowntree Dairy just off Pine Valley just south of 7. It really seems the parking here is packed at this place and the area surrounding this restaurant. I attended a private function here as the place was only open to the function being that it was lunch on a Sunday around noon time. To start off the tables were doen nicely with glasses and bottles of red and water (flat and sparkling) on the table on a linen top. The tables for the large party were done in two large settings. Since the establishment is a corner, there's good natural lighting from 2 sides even though most of the blinds were down. We were started with an antipasto consisting of veggies, bufala and prosciutto drizzled with balsamic along with some rolls. It was a nice start to get things going. Shortly after which were given generous bowls of fried calamari and some pizza. The calamari wasn't greasy and the cuts were very meaty. While I generally prefer the tentacle portions the rings were cooked well. The next course which was in fact my favorite of the day was the penne alla vodka. I think these days I have a new gained love for what I call the "pokable pasta" such as penne and rigatoni. In the past I just found linguine, spaghetti, etc just easier to eat but the penne here is really well done. I loved the sauce and the pancetta really complimented the dish adding to the savory side. Adding my favorite toppings (grated parmesan and chili flakes) made it one of the best pasta dishes I've had in recent memory. That's kind of saying a lot considering my wife is Italian (shhhh). The main consisted of a chicken with potatoes and broccoli. This was a private function so while it's a safe "catering" choice it's not something I would have chosen for myself but it was generally what one would have expected. A salad also followed the serving of the mains. Besides the food I really thought the service was really good and responsive to everybody. There were already drinks on the table to begin but the staff really made sure everybody had everything including being able to get plates together for those that came well after most of it was already done. That penne though...

We here for an office Christmas function and the consensus was that the food is mediocre. Areas of improvement: Bread served but no olive oil or balsamic provided. That's a basic. The pasta was cooked al dente but the overall consensus was that the tomato sauce had way too much garlic in it. So much so that most left the bulk of their portions in the plate whether it was gnocchi, rigatoni or penne. The pasta fagiolo would have been delicious but if had way too much salt. Dessert was kind of odd, no cannoli left? and no gelato, only Chapmans ice cream. The appetizers were well done and satisfying for all. The service was very good but it can't make up for the over loaded garlic in the tomato sauce.

DELICIOUS & AUTHENTIC SEAFOOD ITALIAN CUISINE…read more I made reservations a few days in advance and was told that only the heated patio was available. But I knew this place was a gem when they called back the day after to inform me there was a cancellation and was now able to move our reservation indoors. I loved that! FOOD: - Complimentary bread tasted nice with the tomato sauce. - Calamari e Gamberi Fritti ($30) tasted so fresh and delicious! For a fried appetizer it wasn't too heavy between sharing for two. The portion was hearty for two and the size of the calamari and shrimp wasn't small. - Captain's Caesar salad ($15) tasted great as we expected for a Caesar salad and also fresh! It was also a good size for two. - Sea Bass Branzino From the Grill ($39) was a great choice! The garlic-lemon butter sauce was incredibly paired with the freshness of the fish and intensified the whole dish. I chose the side option of risotto blanco which was also a perfect pairing! - King Crab Papardelle ($46) was another great tasty choice! It came with multiple pieces of crab legs which were halved. The sauce and texture of the pasta was amazing! - Tiramisu ($13) was the best tiramisu I've had. I love a tiramisu with a strong espresso taste and this one did not disappoint. SERVICE: Our server was very attentive and friendly, as well as the other staff members that helped us out! AMBIENCE: The restaurant is within the same building as their market/grocer. A family-friendly Italian establishment and very hospitable greetings. The smell of fresh seafood even makes it better. I'd definitely return and try out more of their seafood and pasta dishes! And of course their Tiramisu.

My husband being a seafood lover was super enthusiastic about this place, as San Antonio also offers a decent selection of vegetarian food. We got the table, things looked fine and until we kept waiting for our server to come. He came and left the menu only to return when we called him and trying to ask him for suggestions. Understand the menu items but he just responded i will come when you are ready. So we just ordered without any inputs. He wouldn't come to us even once to ask hows the food, do we need anything else. We kept calling a server, serving near by tables. That guy was decent, he practically should have got the tip from our table. Our designated server passed us each time and kept serving other tables. There was sampling ( Italian liquor) for each table, he preferred to skip us or even talk about it. We felt humiliated and frustrated as even after spending 150 bucks, you are not treated respectfully or even neutrally as a customer. But again the other server was as good as any good service offering restaurant would have . I dont think should mention food here. I habe addresses far more important issue here

I noticed a wall full of photos of some previous patrons, some of which were celebs which was cool. We ordered the set dinner for 2. First came the miso soup and salad, which were pretty standard. Next was the with assorted tempura, a couple of shrimp and 4 veg. They were ok, not very greasy and had the usual veg, but the batter was not like typical tempura batter I though and lacked the airiness and crunch. Next came the 10pc assorted sushi/sashimi. Fish was decent. But the portion size for 2 people was kinda small. 3pc Sushi, 3pc Sashimi and 3 California rolls, in total was not enough for 2 people. Then came the teriyaki beef. The meat was slightly over cooked was and there could have been more of the glaze. Next was grilled Mackerel. It was cooked well I thought. My friend didn't have any because she thought it smelt too fishy. To finish we had the standard ice cream. I chose the red bean and my friend had the green tea. Cost was $60.00 and thought it was overpriced for the amount of food for 2 people. There wasn't enough in the sushi course. Our server was attentive and friendly though, coming to refill our tea frequently. There was nothing too wrong with this place but I wasn't overly impressed either. I wouldn't come out of my way to come back. 3.5*

We ordered the seafood platter and it came loaded with fried chicken strips, shrimp, fish, and more. You really do not see portions like this anymore for the price. The highlights for me were definitely the chicken and fish. Considering this is a quick service restaurant, I was surprised at how good it was. The inside was moist and juicy while the batter stayed crispy and crunchy. Service was also very friendly, and although the food took around 10 minutes, it made sense because everything was made to order. There are only a few seats inside which is pretty typical for this kind of spot, but there is lots of parking which makes it easy to visit. Definitely worth checking out if you want big portions, solid fried food, and great value.

Visited Captain D's Seafood Kitchen as part of Yelp Elite Event. Took me almost an hour to travel…read morehere, but I love seafood and was quite excited to try the place, especially the crabs. The place is easy to find and ambience of the restaurant is quite easy going. Most importantly, it is neat and clean. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by Arin at the counter. However when I told him I was visiting as part of Yelt Elite, he was confused. I guess he has just started working here, nevertheless he was professional and reached out to Harmeet (Chef) in the kitchen, who immediately took charge and took my order. We ordered the Deluxe seafood platter (spicy) which came with 2 hush puppies, 2 stuffed crab shells, 6 butterfly shrimps, 2 fish fillets along with 2 sides( we got corn and fries) The 2 hush puppies were hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were quite delicious. I was quite excited about the 2 Stuffed crabs, but they were a huge let down.It felt too doughy with almost next to none of crab in the filling. The fries were hot and crispy and the fish fillet were quite delicious, with the outside batter covering being crispy and inside being soft and moist. We had ordered the spicy version, but it wasn't spicy at all. The 6 butterfly shrimp were best of the lot. They were delicious all the way through. The corn was hot but for some reason it was too chewy. We had to give it a pass. We also ordered the Supremely Sampler, which is simlar to the seafood platter but here instead of 2 stuffed crab shells you get 2 chicken tenders. And let me say, the 2 chicken tenders were wonderful. Infact they were better than all the seafood we tried. They were crunchy, moist and flavorful.. To foodies: If you can travel, and love seafood, especially butterfly shrimp, hush puppies and Fish fillets, do give this a try. The staff is welcoming and kind, which I believe is the best part. It is definitely a good place to visit and try the food atleast once. To management: You have a wonderful staff. However the food falls a bit flat and below expectations. The spicy versions aren't spicy at all. The Stuffed Crab needs a complete recipe makeover. The Chicken is pretty good but you being a seafood restaurant, the seafood items needs to stand out. Also, pls reconsider the location. Right now tucked far away in the corner. Overall rating: 6.7/10 Signing off Rahul V.S. aka CanIndian Foodie
