This restaurant was AMAZING! The service was excellent! We had Casandra with food and Gloria with Wine and Lela with suggestions all having fun and loving what they do. The Chef owner Romano came to great us at the table and to me that speaks volumes about how much he cares about his customers. I ordered the orecchiette and they were perfectly cooked and delicious with the sausage flavored and tender. My sister-in law had the veal and it was cooked to perfection. The food is excellent and so fresh. First time there and I would definitely return. A nice Italian crusty bread was brought to the table. We had a few appetizers to share - the Focaccia Bianco and the Truffle Fries. Both were so tasty. The chicken and Shrimp pasta was excellent. Tho Osso Buco was a generous portion and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Service was good. We were able to refills of soda and water with no problem. The noise level in the restaurant is the problem. It's simply way too noisy. I know it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. But on top of all the guests they had music blaring and we couldn't hear one another, although we were siting 3 feet from our friends. So, 1 star removed for the noise level. I've dined at Romanos three times now, and I usually indulge in their veal Parmigiana and zucchini fritters, which have always been a delight. However, this visit was a veritable culinary catastrophe. The veal was so tough it could have doubled as a workout, and the coconut shrimp was practically still swimming--definitely not the beach vacation I was hoping for! My friends' spicy rigatoni was a sad affair as well. It felt as if they were rolling out the red carpet for their regulars while new patrons were left to fend for themselves. Meh Perhaps I am expecting too much after enjoying Italian food from the downtown core and hoping that Woodbridge would have good Italian given the high density of Italians who live here. I was disappointed. First the good.: Calamari was good. Fresh and home made. Would prefer more tentacles though. The ok: Fettuccine truffle. A little too saucy that diluted the flavour. We came with the fam for a birthday celebration and sat on the patio. The server was excellent and the food was fresh and very tasty. The bread at the beginning of the meal was devoured by everyone. Everyone had various pasta or steak dishes and were happy with their meals. We brought a cake for the celebration and they allowed us to cut and serve it. Came here right at 5:30 when it opened. It got packed around 6:30 with big tables of Italian families. I had the coconut shrimp starter. The shrimps were quite big and the crust was okay. Came with a sour spicy dipping sauce. The steak was thin, juicy, soft and not meaty tough at all. The tomato pasta has fresh basil in it and nice and chewy. Romano's is located at the south west corner of Strada and Rowntree Dairy just off Pine Valley just south of 7. It really seems the parking here is packed at this place and the area surrounding this restaurant. I attended a private function here as the place was only open to the function being that it was lunch on a Sunday around noon time. To start off the tables were doen nicely with glasses and bottles of red and water (flat and sparkling) on the table on a linen top. The tables for the large party were done in two large settings. Since the establishment is a corner, there's good natural lighting from 2 sides even though most of the blinds were down. We were started with an antipasto consisting of veggies, bufala and prosciutto drizzled with balsamic along with some rolls. It was a nice start to get things going. Shortly after which were given generous bowls of fried calamari and some pizza. The calamari wasn't greasy and the cuts were very meaty. While I generally prefer the tentacle portions the rings were cooked well. The next course which was in fact my favorite of the day was the penne alla vodka. I think these days I have a new gained love for what I call the "pokable pasta" such as penne and rigatoni. In the past I just found linguine, spaghetti, etc just easier to eat but the penne here is really well done. I loved the sauce and the pancetta really complimented the dish adding to the savory side. Adding my favorite toppings (grated parmesan and chili flakes) made it one of the best pasta dishes I've had in recent memory. That's kind of saying a lot considering my wife is Italian (shhhh). The main consisted of a chicken with potatoes and broccoli. This was a private function so while it's a safe "catering" choice it's not something I would have chosen for myself but it was generally what one would have expected. A salad also followed the serving of the mains. Besides the food I really thought the service was really good and responsive to everybody. We here for an office Christmas function and the consensus was that the food is mediocre. Areas of improvement: Bread served but no olive oil or balsamic provided. That's a basic. The pasta was cooked al dente but the overall consensus was that the tomato sauce had way too much garlic in it. So much so that most left the bulk of their portions in the plate whether it was gnocchi, rigatoni or penne. The pasta fagiolo would have been delicious but if had way too much salt. Dessert was kind of odd, no cannoli left? and no gelato, only Chapmans ice cream. The appetizers were well done and satisfying for all. Servings were HUUUGE, just like all the other reviews have mentioned. I had enough for a full meal the next day AND I was left stuffed...again! Everything comes out piping hot. Fresh as hell. Their meat sauce is great and they do not skimp out on this. I feel that my rigatoni could have been cooked like a minute longer, but it wasn't that serious. It was still good. My bf's chicken parm was the size of Jupiter, I swear. Gigantic. I tried some of his chicken and it was so soft! The tenderest piece of chicken, overloaded with cheese. YUM. I did try a gnocchi and I'm not the biggest gnocchi fan in the first place, but my friend sure cleaned his plate! Of course, since it was birthday dinner #5, I had to finish off with SOME dessert. Over Priced and Small Portions We had been to Romano's quite often before the pandemic. The prices have increased significantly and the portions are much smaller now. The prices on the website differ from what we were charged on our last visit. Fries are $5 on the website and we were charged $10? Also, beer is $8 on the website and we were charged $10.50? We were charged more than what was listed on their website for almost every dish that was ordered? We didn't realize at the time that we had been charged more. We understand that everyone is recovering from the pandemic but price gouging and small portion sizes is only going to result in the loss of loyal customers. We will not be returning or recommending Romano's like we previously did. Also, they seemed understaffed as it took a long time to have our order taken and for our food to arrive. It took awhile for our table to be cleared once we were done eating and when two girls finally came, they were having their own personal conversation. Been there twice and the folks in my group had good things to say about their meals. I have had pizza on both occasions and although they are of good size and very tasty, they were too salty for me. With concerns of high blood pressure, highly salted foods are best not eaten by me. I have read that the medical community doesn't recommend salt to pretty well anyone. Came here last night for my boyfriends dads birthday. The whole experience was pretty mediocre. First of all, bf made the reso 3 weeks in advance yet a group of 10 of us were seated by the door? that's bs...everytime it opened it was brutal! The server was alright but would disappear for long periods of time as there were other parties going on too. We got a bunch of apps, some were generously portioned, others not so much. 9 polenta fries for 10 dollars? do you know how cheap corn starch is!!!! Sorry to be a huge cheap-o but just saying. I ordered the grilled chicken and the side option was veggies or pasta so I went for veggies. First of all, the piece of grilled chicken was paper thin, like it was actually a joke. I cook myself grilled chicken all the time at home and I would have probably eaten 3x that portion on my own. The veggies were not what I expected in terms of health benefits. Mushy peas and carrots like the ones you see at thanksgiving, and mashed potatoes. Clearly this restaurant does not possess fresh vegetables, you know like broccoli or peppers or any of the usual stuff you'd get. I refused to finish them because they are so high in carbs!! My bf got a pizza which he finished in minutes. I'm still convinced it was a Dr. Oetker pizza. It looks like this one I used to make all the time when I was a kid LOL! Luckily we didn't order dessert because we had cake waiting at home. I wouldn't go back. I think the reason they get business, along with other mediocre Vaughan restaurants, is because people who live around there don't leave their area! Excellent restaurant. Classic Italian done really well. A typical Woodbridge joint, but sort of in the mid to upper category, somewhere in between. High value restaurant, quality food with large portions at the same time. You can definitely find better Italian if you look, but at this price point, it's a feel good restaurant with excellent service and good value. You know you won't go wrong - the type of place you can be a regular at. The pasta's are all done really well and their Secondi's are excellent. Ask for the specials because they usually have great ones and an impressive list of specials usually as well (typically 2 fishes, and 2 meats) Some things that stand out are: their veal parmigiana, the ossobuco, the beet and arugula salad, the spaducci with rapini. They tend to get quite busy on the weekends, so definitely make a reservation and request the dining room (otherwise you'll end up in the bar area). They recently renovated so both are quite nice in any event. They have a promo going on for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for family style dining ($99 for 4). Went here for dinner Friday night with a friend. The bread that was served at the table was hard rock. Not enjoyable to eat. My friend ordered a gnocchi and I ordered the seafood wine pasta. My friend enjoyed her gnocchi, however I was not as content with my dish. The wine sauce likes very plain, no colour to it and soupy consistency. The flavour was also missing. I had to bring the sauce up a notch by adding lemon , salt , pepper and chilli flakes and The pasta itself wasn't al dente. read more

Our flight out of Toronto was delayed and I've never been so happy to have a flight delayed. We were just about to head for the airport and decided to yelp for someplace to eat along the way and found Romano's. What a gem! I admit I was taken aback by the exterior. It's in typical suburban office park, and you'd never even know it was a restaurant if you were passing by on the street. Once inside, it's a different story. White linen cloths and napkins, Italian music in the background, sparkling tableware, and black clad waitstaff. Suddenly, my business casual attire makes me wonder if I'm slightly under dressed, but the charming greeting I quickly receive puts me immediately at ease. I notice there are several large groups in the room: Italian families for sure, a good sign. The menu includes an unusual quirk: several of the mains can be ordered family style. So you can get a 4-6 portion size plate to share. What a great concept! We end up ordering the arugula beet blue cheese salad and the seafood medley pasta in white wine sauce to share. Our waitress is friendly and fast. She leaves the bowl of parm on the table for us to help ourselves to, because she doesn't want to rush us to split the pasta. The food is fantastic. The only reasons I give Romano's 5 stars: We deliberately left room for dessert but found out that they were out of more than half the items. The other items have to do with signage. From the outside, I've already mentioned, it's hard to tell they're there. We weren't even sure it was the right place. Also, the hall the washrooms are in is dark and the signs indicating which is for men and women are very difficult to see. These signs need to be illuminated. One of our sister was visiting from out of town and wanted a fabulous Italian meal. After doing some online research, I decided to try Romano's and now we know why it is so highly rated. Although the place was full and extremely busy, Leyla was attentive and provided the best recommendations. We ordered a number of dishes to share and the linguine pescatore was one of them. We were going with the white sauce but on Leyla's recommendation went with the red as it is "the best homemade sauce made it house" and she was absolutely right!!! The potato pizza, chicken and shrimp along with the lamb chops were spectacular. We did not have one dish that was just "average". The portions and the quality of their ingredients were above expectations. For dessert, we had Tiramisu and coconut dream pie - both were mouthwatering delicious. Mikayla was amazing at clearing our dishes, making sure our service was impeccable and prepared our desserts with the best flare. Great Food! But they hate Groupon! FOOD so my friend had this groupon and asked if I wanted to join. The bread wasn't to my liking. It was really dry and crumbly. I heard however the Italians like it this way. Is that true? The waitress didn't give us the oil and vinegar and we had to ask for it. We had the Mussels Marinara - $10.00. P.E.I. mussels, steamed in a white wine, and garlic spicy tomato marinara sauce. It was delicious. The tomatoe sauce was perfect and mussel helping was generous for 2 two people. We then had the Calabrese Pizza- $13.00 with Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, red peppers, hot salami and black olives. I honestly couldn't believe how great the pizza tasted. The combination of toppings were complemented each other and it was just a burst of happiness in my mouth. We also shared the Spaghetti Calabrese - $15.00 which was spaghetti in a light tomato basil sauce with sliced italian sausage. This was equally as good and I was just in heaven. The total came to $38 before taxes. ENVIRONMENT Driving up to the place seemed so odd. The restaurant looked so out of place as it looked like it was in the middle of all these manufacturer stores and it was in the middle of no where. Walking inside however, it seemed like we were walking into a new world. It was dimly lit and there were different sections of the restaurant. The washrooms even had little couches inside each stall (I have no idea why). It was probably to imitate an upper class feel. WAIT STAFF Now here is where the restaurant lost its 1 star. When we first got in, they were going to seat us next to the door when the restaurant had tons of other space. I understand that most people we sitting in that area but please don't put us right next to the entrance. That's just rude. We asked to sit next to the section where most people were sitting. They accomodated us (well they should because there were other people sitting there too). The waitress was really helpful in deciding what we should order. We really enjoyed our meal. She even complimented me saying I had a nice spirit. At that point, I was good to give her a massive tip. HA. Then when our bill came and we gave her the groupon, she looked at us in disbelief in the sense of "how could you use this here?". I was stunned. She took the groupon coupon and left without a word or eye contact with us. She gave us the bill without even looking at us and told us we had to pay the taxes and gruitity from out of pocket because we didn't make the $45 groupon amount. I was in complete shock. She was so great to us before and all of a sudden she became so cold. I understand we were using a groupon but I really enjoyed the place so much that I would have gladly gone back w/o a groupon. And isn't that the purpose of groupon? to introduce new customers to the restaurant? I honestly would have never found this place because it's in the middle of no where and hidden between all these manufcaturing and retail stores. And I was going to give her a nice tip too so I'm not sure why she had this preconceived notion that well...I'm not exactly sure what she was thinking. A large group of friends and I placed reservations at Romano's for their New Year's Eve fixed price menu. The appetizers were decent with lots of variety. We received Italian bread, fried calamari (which were rather bland), garden salad with balsamic vinegar, and antipasto stagione. For the entrée, we received pasta that was a little undercooked as it was still really chewy and dry in the inside. For the main course, we had an option of veal steak, chicken parmigiana, and grilled salmon. I selected the grilled salmon and I am extremely disappointed. The grilled salmon was very bland as there was no seasoning or sauce whatsoever. It was dry and lightly grilled but I find it to be comparable to lightly fried salmon as the outside was crispy. On the side was sweet mash potato and steamed vegetables that were overcooked. For desert, we had a choice of Apple crumble cheesecake and chocolate pecan cheesecake. It was good despite the texture that slightly indicated it came out of the freezer about 30 minutes ago. For the whole dinner, it costed me $65 plus 18% tip and tax. All together I paid a little less than $100 just for myself! I wouldn't have mind the price if the food quality was amazing as it is at fancier restaurant than the average restaurants I go to. But for average customer service and below average tasting food, it was not worth it. The only thing I liked from this experience was the one waitress that was very attentive and pleasant while the other waitresses did not bother with us as it was obvious we were fairly young (18 years old to be exact) and did not take us seriously.
