Just had my birthday here yesterday (4 Sept 2016). I wanted to do something fun and different and this hit just the right note! I can easily say this was one of the best birthdays I've ever had! So why only three stars you ask? Well let me begin... making a reservation is easy and difficult at the same time. First of all this establishment is open in the late afternoon and on. Which is understandable since there isn't a lot of people going to Karaoke during the work day. The con of that is waiting to make a reservation, ask a question, or make changes to your reservation only during those times. Even with this slight annoyance this is not why they only get 3 stars. I called several times as you can tell to ask questions and make changes. One of the questions was is it ok to bring a cake? And is there a place it may be refrigerated? I also asked if I may come a bit early like 15 minutes to prepare for my guests. I was told yes, yes, and yes. They were even nice enough to provide plates, silverware and a knife for cutting and serving my cake. They even told me if there was another party in my room I could wait at the bar. I was fine with this as I am not entirely unreasonable. Soo based off the answer to my questions. I tell my husband let's get there early we can give them the cake to refrigerate and then walk around capitol hill. We get there with a cake that must be refrigerated an hour prior to my reservation which is at 3pm on a Sunday and find out it doesn't open until 3 pm at the time of my reservation. I feel slightly mislead and misinformed. I should've been told while I was making a reservation that my reservation time was when they open. Soo pretty much as soon as I walked in the door my clock was ticking... very frustrating. As soon as it hit 3 pm there was at least 7 of is waiting outside. The guy unlocks the door but doesn't bother to ask of we're waiting to come in (Strike one). Then the guys proceeds to check all or ID'S which is understandable but at the expense of my time in the room (Strike 2) I ask him about what I was told on the phone about setting up prior to and my cake needing refrigeration. He completely brushed me off as if my complaint didn't matter and said "Well, you should've knocked." (Strike 3,how was I supposed to know that? ) If I wasn't already on the 'clock' and preparing for my guests I would've raised more of a fuss about it. But it was my birthday party and I was there to have fun. They then lead us into the party room, which is very nice. The guy went through about a 2 second intro on how to use the equipment which was frustrating because then we spent a good amount of our time trying to figure out how to use it (Strike 4). Pros: Our waitress was amazing! She was very attentive to our party and separated or checks. She also did great at preparing the cake. Song selection was up to date everyone was able to find something they liked. Great atmosphere in the room and clean bathrooms. Street parking and paid garage parking nearby. Even though I had a great experience here; I chalked that up to the people I shared the day with. My family and friends are the best! And they can make anytime a good time. If you want something different I would recommend this place for your party. Although; I personally will not be coming back. read more

This place is the bomb. If you're like me and wanted to try karaoke but didn't know of a place that did Asian Style/KTV style karaoke, this is the way to go. First off, Rock Box is pretty sexy. It's all dark and wood and well decorated, it feels like you're in a VIP room or something when all you're going to do is sing throwback songs from the late '90s and early 2000s and be generally embarrassing. Or maybe that's just me... Anyway, the private rooms are awesome and they have ones for any size group. The song selection is HUGE, the iPad control system works well and is easy to use, the soundproofing is awesome, and the drinks are yummy. (I had the blood orange mojito.) The service is fast and friendly, and they make splitting the check between your group very easy. Overall, 10/10 would sing again. read more

Oh the countless songs!! This is by far my favorite and single best karaoke bar in Seattle. I've been frequenting this place for a while and often. I still love it after an umpteenth time. What makes this place amazing? Let's see! Decor - check Private rooms - check Easy to navigate iPads with bajillion songs - check!! Happy hour on food, drinks and the room rates?? Check check check!! I've had my birthdays here with close to 30 people as well as smaller gatherings with around 5- 10 people. As long as you reserve it ahead, it's pretty easy to navigate. The rooms are $7 per person per hour. On happy hour, it's $4! Not bad unless you're hosting a bday. 30 people's tab can be pretty pricy! But it's worth it. Lately, I've done many walk ins with the lobby singing. It's much easier when there's 3- 4 of you! Come in, get drinks at the bar! Put your name & songs on the paper and singggg!!!! Don't be shy! People often will sing and dance along with you. I've met pretty fun people this way. And they pick better songs than me at times too :) My fun nights here = hot sake, a list of Guns n roses, Beyoncé, Lana del Rey and back street boys songs + a microphone! I was reached out to regarding my review by the owner who referred me to the General Manager. They were super understanding and clarified lots of the miscommunications we had. We thought we were charged extra for the microphones--thankfully, we weren't. I think my friend might've misheard from the staff and we weren't able to get our receipts. They banned the guys who followed us to the our room which was hugely appreciated. They were kind enough to offer a gift card for the inconvenience but we aren't from Seattle so I declined. I demand that this place succeeds, so I'm giving a *perhaps slightly elevated and undeserved* 5 star review. It is probably more like 4 stars, because the food is ...well...meh and the prices on most things skew towards the "more expensive than the ID" (that's "International District" if you're not a townie.) Quotes and parenthesis aside, the karaoke boxes Rock Box provides are clean, orderly, and technologically advanced. The Ipad ordering system speaks to the tiny little geek inside of me, and the fact that they have a backup ordering keypad speaks to the 5Ps like nobody's business. A small aside. Perhaps you have never heard of the 5Ps? Well, my good friend, allow me to help educate you on a little bit of wisdom passed down from someone to me. The only promise I ever made upon receiving this information is that I would pass it along. Knowledge, above all other things in this world, is power. Electricity for the mind, so to speak. Came in a few nights this week after getting a lot of recommendations as the best karaoke spot in town. Bartenders in the main area were super friendly and fun! You can sing there and socialize a bit while waiting for your room. When me and my buddies were in our room the service was fast and the drinks are a cool selection you don't see other places. This place has GONE DOWN THE DRAIN and I'll give you many reasons why. First off, this place is getting 2 stars and NOT 1 because of Mikey, our server, who was extremely nice and understanding, and the fact that there were available rooms on Sunday when it first opened. Ok let's get to the shitty aspects: first, parking is a nightmare. Unless you were lucky like me and secured a spot along that little street, you are probably better off UBERing to Rock Box or parking at Seattle University to walk your ass over. Second, technical difficulties! It was to the point of ridiculous where almost every song I put in there was some glitch and the screen froze! Wtf?! Third, apparently this place does not purchase the actual music to the songs, which you will notice when you choose a song that the song is not the actual song BUT a variation that has a different key, pitch, or lack of a chorus. That's a little fucked up if you ask me. People go to karaoke places to sing songs that they've heard on the radio, at clubs, or downloaded. They don't want to hear some knockoff version or variation of a song that sounds "off." If you are too cheap to purchase the actual song, then don't be running a karaoke place. So my new love is Stone Karaoke in Bellevue: the place has ALL the songs I want to sing, awesome special effects in the room, most if not all of the music videos (which is pretty damn impressive), and NO technical issues (what a concept!). This is the place to go the next time you want to sing your heart out to a Backstreet Boys song or try hitting all the high notes to Celine Dion, "My Heart Will Go On." Neat little rooms with stylish furniture. Food and drinks. Seemingly happy people work there. There is a happy hour time too. (The first time I heard of happy hour for singing.) Cool huh? And lastly, you remember the big books of songs at the older karaoke places? This place have an Ipad to select and search all the songs. Makes it so easy to find songs that more time is spent on singing rather than looking. And what I appreciate most of all about this place...the cleanliness!! For my Asian Studies peeps it's always getting a private room, generally deemed "the Rockening" of some kind, and we rock out to a combo of hair metal, 90's R&B, and Japanese karaoke classics like リンダ・リンダ . For my Seattle Yelp peeps, it's partying in the main room, or "Rick Boxing" if you will, to some quality affordable beverages, rocking out with every other drunken schlub in Seattle. Everyone enjoys the all day happy hour on Sunday, that's a good frickin deal. The staff are very friendly, the place looks nice, has a good selection. Seattle is lucky to have such an amazing karaoke joint, which, with its combo of private and public karaoke spaces, effects a beautiful marriage of occident and orient. read more

My mom had died the day before, and I was looking forward to celebrating life and unwinding a bit, as it had been an extremely rough week. We, as party of four, were second in line as they opened. Their wall-of-text of a website didn't annotate that reservations are recommended regardless of party size -- this should probably be changed, as every single other bar/restaurant/public space in Seattle has some weird restriction on how many people can be in your party before you're "allowed" to make a reservation. Also, reservations require that you call them during business hours -- no online reservation capability, no message service. During business hours. Cheap and kinda tacky. We were greeted by a rather brusque woman with "Well, let me see your IDs, and after I get this line of people checked into their rooms, we'll see what we can do." It felt like we were inconveniencing her entire day, but a glimmer of hope nonetheless! Sat and waited for 10 minutes while maybe 4 other rooms were filled. She comes over and quickly destroys our hope with a lack of availability. "People book out these rooms weeeeeeeeks in advance." (vocal fry 1) Well, congratulations on such a robust business! Update your website. Me: "My mother just died, can I please have some fun, some joy? Please?" I was begging, something I never thought I'd do at a karaoke bar. Her: "I'm sorrrryyyyyyyyy." (vocal fry 2) Me: "Yeah, you sure sound like it." -glance back at me with scorn while talking to my friend- What? Were you about to complain at me, a potentially paying customer? Did you need proof that my mother was dead before you exhibited anything resembling actual sympathy? She said we could do karaoke in the main area instead or while we waited for the next open room. Oh yes, that's exactly what I planned! Coming to a karaoke bar all the way in the middle of Capitol Hill to sing in public! Not to get one of the private rooms advertised on your hilariously inadequate website! Earliest slot was three hours away. No extra stars, because the selection of songs is becoming stale -- this should never be the case, considering how many karaoke systems they have integrated together in the back. Also, there should absolutely be a way to connect via Bluetooth or Aux cable into the speaker system if you brought your own instrumentals, or just want to sing along to the actual song. Taiwan has some amazing karaoke joints, and up until Rock Box, Seattle had nothing that even came close to it. And while they still aren't quite up to par (rooms in Taiwan are easily 3x the size of these), they come awfully close, and certainly have the best to offer in this little corner of the great Northwest. Rock Box has twelve rooms throughout the building of different sizes, with max room sizes at 2, 6, 11, 15, and 35+ people. And while they'll only charge up to the maximum a room can hold, it's near impossible to fit any more than one or two past the recommended max. Prices are $7 per person per hour, up to that max room limit. Happy hour prices are only $4 per person per hour. Their song collection is fairly extensive, and range across a number of languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. Apparently, you can request that they add songs they don't currently have yet as well. And, much like their Asian counterparts, Rock Box also offers a good selection of drinks and food while you're singing. Shame there's not really enough room for it all. read more

Rock box is my favorite karaoke spot in Seattle. If you want a private room, be sure to make a reservation by calling at 4pm the day of, because the place gets packed on weekend nights. The room rates are very reasonable, at only $7 per person per hour, and the song selection is good. Our server was super quick with making sure we had the drinks we wanted and that we were well attended to. I've also been here in the past in the public room, and I've got to say that that's a ton of fun as well. The bartenders are quick to get you what you want...which in my case was enough drinks to not care about belting out songs in the main room. Honestly, you couldn't go wrong in either the private or public room. Just a tip for the public room - you're likely going to have to wait a bit for your turn to sing, so be proactive in getting your requests on the list as quickly as possible. read more

GOTTA LOVE IT!!! Reservation: Easy and simple. Tell them the time and expected guest counts. If it is over 8 people, they need a credit card to hold the room reservation. They do get busy with weekend reservations so book it several days in advanced is highly recommended. Also be aware they charge you fees if you do not cancel 24 hours in advance. Check their website for details. Service: It is consistently good. Nothing too much to complain about. They are pretty good with bringing water to you. Although I did have some communication confusions with one of the staff when it came to split checks. But it was not a big deal since my friends are chill to pay with one card and split on our own. Room: I have been to the party room as well as the regular room for birthday parties. I LOVED the party room. It was SO MUCH FUN. It was spacious and could easily fit 20 to 30 people. The regular room I went to was good, too. Although it was just a bit tight and the screen was pretty close to our seats. There was not much room to walk around. Overall: This is one of the best Karaoke places I have been to in Seattle. What I liked the most about this place is its iPad feature. It makes selecting songs much easier than many other Karaoke places. It speeds up the selection process, too. They also update their song selection/menu every month. I will be back again for sure. Karaoke is in my blood and it's stronger than ever! I and my girlfriends did a get-together several times and this has been our spot. Compared to a karaoke place I've been in U-District, it was definitely more affordable but offered smaller room for 3-4 people. We loved the neon blue lights that they put in the room. Happy Hour (4-8pm) is epic, $4/person and $3 for a Sapporo!!! What else can you ask for? The room is clean and couch is quite comfy. It is also equipped with flat screen TV and wireless system, very nice. The selection of songs is great, and they update their song list quite well. There are Japanese, Chinese and English songs only. You can search by Title, Artist, Song etc using Ipad. You can also adjust the tune and sound of the songs using the Ipad. FYI these Ipads are monitored so if you happen to take them, the police will track you down - they actually warm you on the Ipad :-) I do occasionally come across songs with wrong lyrics and bad spelling mistakes, but since this place is so awesome and has been so good with me, it's not a problem at all. Bottom Line - Show me a better private room karaoke in Seattle and I'd be surprised. The ambiance is great (new and clean), and all the songs we wanted to sing were available. I like the iPad interface for finding and queuing songs, but it froze way too much. Be sure to make reservations, especially on weekends, as this place gets pretty full. I had the pleasure of reserving a room for a birthday surprise and the rock box made it very easy and even gave me a reminder call a couple days prior. The reservation process requires a card to be on hold for a 50% deposit in the case that you don't show. The servers were great in splitting our bills making it easier and less of a headache. I have never been to Rock Box before. A co-worker recommended it for a little TGIF Happy Hour fun. I actually liked everything about this place, from the intimacy of the space, the menu, the cocktails, the service and the song book. Forget writing your song choice down on a piece of paper, you can pickyour song on an ipad and que it up. I love that you dont have to wait rediculous amounts of time to sing. I am already planning my birthday party here. We will definitely be back. I highly recommend the popcorn, the blood orange mojito, lychee martini and the hello kitty cocktail. Delish! This place really does it for me. You walk in and you're instantly confronted with music! People are generally in the front room singing karaoke as they wait for their room reservation. Or if you're not in the mood for a private room you can do more traditional public karaoke just in the front room. There's a bar to get drinks while you wait, which is nice if you just do a walk in and have to wait a bit. The staff is very friendly and upbeat, often taking turns belting out their own favorite songs! They are always checking if you've been before to make sure you understand how everything works. It's just such a fun atmosphere the second you step in. If you haven't been before... It goes a bit like this. You can either make a reservation or walk in and see if they have any rooms. You get a room that accommodates your party, whether it's you and a friend or a work party. Based on the size of the room you get 2+ microphones. From there you'll see a big television, and an iPad on the couch. You use the iPad to pick songs and voila! You're in a swanky room with your people bellowing out the words to your favorite 90's pop! A waiter will check in on you to keep the drinks coming. You pay by the hour, and can extend your time in the room if they don't have people waiting. A decent Karaoke spot in Capitol Hill. They have private rooms for reservation. The maximum a room can hold is 15 people. Service is decent but the owner lady/ lady in charge here is pretty rude. They could also do with updating their Non-English song content. Their regional song collection is from the 1990s. Also; they do not serve alcohol post 1 am in the room and the do not serve alcohol AT ALL post 2 am. Booze is one thing you need in your system for a no-holds-barred karaoke night. I love karaoke...but in the comfort of my own home. So I tend to shy away from singing at karaoke bars. But not at Rock Box! Thank goodness Rock Box opened up on Capitol Hill. I felt like I was in a different city when I walked in. Everything about the place looked so modern and fun. I came here with a fellow yelper and went with the 2 person room. The seats were very comfy and I love how you can add songs on the ipad. There were books available in the room, one listing songs by song title and the other by artist. I'm glad this was available because I was overwhelmed with all the songs you can choose from. We originally had the room booked for 2 hours but ended up booking it for another hour because it felt like the time went by super fast. Some of the highlights that evening: Jammin to Rammstein's "Du Hast" (in english, which was pretty entertaining), spotting Brendan Fraser in the cheesy video that accompanied Madonna's "Dress You Up in My Love", and attempting to rap to "Rapper's Delight". I'm definitely coming back here. It would be hella fun to bring a group of people and let loose. **EDIT** If you decide to drop in on a weeknight, they stop walk-ins from getting a room around midnight. So call ahead if you really want a room. Other than that, you can always sit at the bar and request songs to sing with other bar patrons. =) **EDIT AGAIN** The owners of the place were kind enough to message me that on weekdays, they stop seating at 1 am. Now I know when I visit next time and get told they stop seating at midnight I will tell them that I heard otherwise. read more

This place is a lot of fun. Gorgeous, clean rooms with up to date technology. I've been in a four person room and the party room so far and am looking forward to one of the in between rooms in the next few weeks. The party room was great - lots of space to perform and dance around but also step back and have conversations. The four person room was also lovely. The ipad they gave us in the four person room stopped working a few times - they do have a back up in the traditional books of songs but it was frustrating to waste time trying to get it fixed. Service was excellent and the hello kitty martini is quite possibly the sweetest thing I have ever tried with alcohol in it - and I've been on cruises. My voice was hoarse after coming here and that's a good thing. Perfect for the secret rock star in all of us. TIP: They'll keep separate tabs for individuals if you ask! This is really helpful for large groups. They'll hand over individual checks with karaoke time as well as drink costs. PROS: - yummy and fun drinks! Example: HELLO KITTY COCKTAIL! So cute, coconut flavored and rimmed with pink sugar! - huge song selection! You can use the book or search songs/artists on the iPad. Multiple people can queue songs at a time. - great sound in private rooms! Once you open the door to the hallway, you can hear other groups busting out, but when that door closes, it feels very private. CONS: - hella expensive if it's not a Sunday! I think it cost $7 or $8 an hour per person for our group. My wallet was hurting at the end of the night. - no Korean songs! WHAT?! They have Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish options, but having been to many Korean karaoke places in LA, I was shocked that there weren't any Korean songs in Rock Box's book. Overall, a great time! The prices are reasonable, which is awesome, because many other karaoke places are such a rip off. These prices are probably the best I've seen. This place has an amazing selection of songs. I have to give 4 stars just because the seats were uncomfortable and the lighting is a little too bright for a small room.

Happy hr 4-8p on drinks and karaoke rooms: $4/pp/hr versus typical $7. i met about 6-8 friends here and it was all our first time so we got a room and expected to pay the full price for the room (which they need a credit card to hold upon reserving). we got hungry/thirsty for more singing juice so went to the bar to get food/drinks. apparently we were supposed to have a server but when the bartender found out we didn't have one, she told us the room was free. drunk and singing and having the time of our lives.. then finding out that they messed up so our room was free.99? hell yeaaa. we sang til 2am bc we milk our free blessings that are disguised as mini misfortunes. SINGING: they have hella songs, old and new and its really easy to input via book to keypad or search/enter on an ipad. the ipad is slow though..FYI. DANCING: optional.. but if we had a bigger room this miiight have been necessary EATING/DRINKING: the sake sangria was dangerously delicious that i had 4.. good times. food is SO GOOD. if i could, i would buy their duck fat popcorn and sneak it into the movie theater because it is that much better than movie theater popcorn. japanese mac n cheese was good too and so was the sausages! so overall.. good service, when we needed it and awesome food.. lots of songs. even my friends who claim they dont sing got in on the fun. also.. if you have balls to sing in front of complete strangers.. karaoke in the bar is free! they have small rooms and big rooms too for bigger parties. i would assume u would have to call ahead of time for the bigger rooms read more

Rock box ruined my Best friends bday by denying me entrance. This was so heartbreaking for me and my friends on a special bday celebration. They asked for proof of vaccination which I had but when I got there I realized my ID was in the car and I carpooled with a friend. Even though I could show them a picture of ID, credit cards with my name they refused stating it's the law. No other place I've ever been to has been so strict. They weren't willing to make any exception and wouldn't even allow me to wait in the lobby they said I had to stand outside the place. This is the rudest most discriminatory service I have ever received. Honestly so sad for being treated this way. I wish I was being dramatic but I had everything that could verify I'm both vaccinated and who I am minus my physical ID. For a karaoke place to be this strict and ruin my plans seems extremely rude and inconsiderate. read more

This is definitely the best karaoke venue in Seattle - one that is fully dedicated to karaoke, that is. The interior is pretty hip and the lighting is cool. Service is decent and the food is great too! They also have a huge song selection... on their iPads at least, their books seem a little outdated. They have a bunch of rooms and a main lobby area where people can chill at the bar and drink or sing. It's a nice option for those who aren't as shy about singing in public. Karaoke has never been this lit. There's 2 ways you can do this, either get a private room or join the community area. If you have mad singing skills and you're not shy about it, just hang out at the community area, there's a bar and you just put your name in for a song request. It's easy to pop in and out that way, or it's great if you want to socialize with random strangers. Who knows, that shortie rapping to 2Chainz might capture your heart and be your long lost soul mate. If you just want to hang out with your selected friends or is throwing a private party, get a room. There's different prices depending on the size of the room. It's a special for happy hour all day Sunday meaning only $4 an hour per person, but if you get the VIP suite, it's a different deal, but the room is huge and it's unlimited people you can bring in there. There's also a giant screen flat screen that you can catch a football game on top of the normal tv that plays your song. Warning, there are cameras monitoring each room so don't be stupid or do anything too stupid. Rock Box sell food and drinks, food is nothing great, just your typical bar food, but it's better than nothing if you're starving. You can't sneak in alcohol like all those other Asian karaoke places, and the system is different than what I'm used to. I'm used to the super legit Korean music system that displays random Sunflower field in the background with lyrics to some hood music, here you just get lyrics in a readable font, no Sunflower field background. There's a huge selection of songs though, like massive! And the controller which is an iPad is super easy to use. I had a good time. Rock Box is probably my favorite place to go for karaoke at this point. One of my biggest pet peeves is going out to a bar with your friends, putting your names in to sing, but the place is so crowded that your group only sings like once an hour. Rock Box solves this - ONLY you and your friends sing in a private room and it's amazing. You can skip songs, move the queue into the order you choose, and you can schedule as many hours in a room as you'd like. I have been here many times and my best friend even threw my bachelorette party here in the BIG event room, which was a BLAST! Hello Kitty cocktails are the best and I am a fan of the Sriracha Chex Mix as well. Staff is friendly and I appreciate they do separate tabs and don't present you with one huge bill at the end. Makes it much easier! My one qualm is that the prices are pretty high...for everything. Food, drinks, and hourly rate per person are all a bit expensive. If you want to save a few bucks, hit them up on Sundays for Happy Hour! read more

I had no idea we even had a Japanese style karaoke place until my friend tipped me on it. I've been there twice now, and both time I was not let down. It is so much more fun to get to sing with all your friends instead of a huge group of strangers.. And it is kinda cool having someone come to the room to bring you your drinks and snacks.
