Every once in a while I come across my review and it angers me more reading about other pets that are picked up from this place, with mysterious ailments. Some with medical issues, some returned with never before seen behavioral problems. I know they drugged my dog because she heard me and was howling to get to me. I can only tell anyone else who didn't see my review and picked up their pet with a problem, take it to the vet immediately and have your pet tested for drugs and or mistreatment. All I can say is Debbie didn't think for a moment about drugging my dog while I waited outside for her to come to the door. She overdosed my dog to the point of kidney problems. Debbie is fortunate the statue of limitation is past or she would be dealing with me in court. That dog was my best friend to me and my children. Our dog, Lindy, is very anxious around other dogs so initially we were worried about her staying anywhere. But we have been taking her to Rock Creek for a few years now and she has done well each time. The people that we have dealt with have always been friendly and helpful. So glad we found a place we can board her when we leave town. Last visit we arrived a few minutes after closing time and it was no issue for the workers when we did come for our girl. Our 13 year old dachshund recently was returned to us after a weeks stay with severe diarrhea, that he had been experiencing for several days. He was so skinny! I don't think he ate properly the entire time he was there. Worker tried to blame the food that we brought as a topper for the kibble. Our thought was that they did not refrigerate it as they were instructed to. (Or, they got into something else while at the kennel).......... Our other dachshund was ill for a few days, but, being younger and stronger, she bounced back quicker. Also, we decided against the $40 bath this time (short haired dachshunds can so easily be washed in the sink or shower at home).......They both smelled horrible. Clearly, the bath right before coming home is to cover up the abuse and bad conditions during the stay. We have been a customer of Rock Creek for years, but certainly will not be in the future. My dog Boomer LOVED it here. We got the grooming package on the last day coming home and he looked, and smelled SO GOOD for at least a week! lol the best thing: we forgot his favorite blanket. Our Saint Bernard pups (7 months old) stayed 2 nights. As expected they had tummy issues being away from the pack. Nervous and maybe a little scared being around so many barking dogs. But they came bounding out of the front door happy and in good spirits. VERY happy to see me. The staff bathed both due to tummy issues. Very thankful. We will be back for sure. When we got home they went right to there favorite couch and slept for 3 hours. We expected that too. read more

I really love Rock Creek Kennels. I feel very good leaving our dogs with them. First of all, the location can not be beat. It is a bit out of the way, which I like. My dogs are away from other stresses that come with being in a new environment, like sounds from traffic or neighbors. Here at Rock Creek, all you hear are a bunch of happy dogs barking. The kennel seems very clean and well kept. I love the little dog suites, and the green fake grass turf, the little community play area, and the long runs where my dogs typically bunk together. We pay a little extra to get our dogs walks everyday, which is done around the rural property. I am sure my dogs must love that. I know they offer some other extras like baths, play time, and grooming. They also have food if you don't bring your own. If you get a dog run instead of the more expensive suites I think you have to bring your own dog bed, toys, bones and stuff like that. I believe the runs have little mats for the dogs, but they are not as nice as the comfy cushions my dogs lay on. The suites have nicer beds, and toys...and I think tv's?? Seriously! When we picked up our dogs we felt assured by their demeanor that they were happy pups. It may cost a little extra for all the attention they got, but for a short weekend trip, the price was totally work it. read more

I can't say enough about my first experience with Rock Creek. I had to leave town unexpectedly for a funeral and needed to find a place to board my bulldog. She has never stayed at a kennel, and I was very stressed about leaving her. Many facilities in Portland offer "cage free" boarding, where your dog stays loose in an environment with other dogs during the entire stay. My dog loves other dogs, but is used to living alone and can be dominant, so I was concerned about her sharing space with other dogs 24/7. Rock Creek offers great individual living spaces and runs for your dog, and everything is very clean. The employees treated me with kindness and reassurance. They did not hesitate to answer any questions I had and were great when I called to check in during my trip. My dog had her own room and run, but was also allowed time to socialize and play with other dogs during the day. When I came to pick my dog up, she was clean and happy. Everyone at Rock Creek seemed to have gotten to know her, and one employee had even taken the time to take photos of her each day so that I could see what she had been up to! This was just above and beyond anything I could have asked for. It warmed my heart and made me so happy. Being new to the area and with family across the country I was so worried about where to board my girl when I travel. I am so relieved to have found this kennel and know that my dog will be treated to love and a vacation all her own when I'm out of town. Thank you! read more

We looked all over town for a great place to leave our 7mo Lab. We are so glad we picked RCK- they took care of him like their own! They were patient with his crazy puppy energy, gave him extra play time at no charge, accommodated our last minute schedule change, were super friendly and happy to share their dog knowledge! They noticed our dog eats his food super fast so they used a slow feeder for him and suggested we do the same- which has worked out great. Highly recommend! read more

I've brought my dogs to Rock Creek Kennels a couple of times and they come home happy, healthy, and tired (which is a very good thing)! Debbie is very friendly and makes the check in/out process easy and efficient for everyone. They are always very communicative! My labrador came home smelling absolutely lovely after her bath. Rock Creek even has play yards for the dogs at no extra cost; most kennels do NOT do this! Finding a trustworthy kennel is not easy! It's been long enough that I've been coming to golf Creek Kennels andIt's about time that I add a review! I've been coming here for I don't know how many years. Always friendly courteous, and never have a worry to leave my puppy behind. I had first started out with two dogs but about 4 years ago my big dog Cooper crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and now Thor is the one that keeps going back. He has a variety of little health issues aside of just getting old. He is 18! My puppy loves going there! I have taken my dog to other places before, and often their bedding smelled of urine. Lovey, my beloved cat, went in there a very energetic, vocal, happy, affectionate little being. After four days at Rock Creek Kennels she returned home a totally different being. I cannot make any specific accusations because I do not have any documented information about what took place while she was there (there were no records that I could see tracking food or water intake, time out of the cage or any human interaction that occurred about what took place while she was there; I can say, however, that when I called to see how she was doing over those four days I was told she was doing "fine;" when I left messages asking to be assured that she was OK, no one ever contacted me which is one reason why I, thank God, picked her up several days sooner than I had planned. It's very unlikely that she would have come home in the extremely and remarkably "unfine" condition in which she is now if she had been "fine" while there. When I went to rescue her, she was in the corner of her cage not moving, hardly seemed to recognize me and, at that point, I was told she hadn't been "eating or drinking much." I then asked how, since Lovey's medication has always been administered by mixing the crushed tablets in with her food (which I had told them upon admission) she had been receiving her medication over the past four days if she had not been "eating much." The response was something like, "someone must have gotten it down her throat somehow." This was surely traumatic for Lovey, already under stress in a strange place with strangers who, since no one mentioned having visited with her, I assume had not given her the attention she needed. (Why didn't anybody call me to tell me when she was not eating or drinking adequately?! *Important to note here is that the two times they did call was not regarding how Lovey was doing, but was out of concern that, for some inexplicable reason, they weren't sure they could trust me to come back and get her! The painful irony here is surely apparent). Two days after arriving home with Lovey, I was so concerned about her altered state that I took her to the Vet ER where she stayed overnight, only to be taken back by me later the same day that I had brought her home from her overnight stay. Upon admission at the ER, the initial plan had been to rule out Dehydration, Metabolic Disease and Stroke. She was treated for dehydration, had tests run which were negative for a metabolic disease and stroke was not ruled out; the vet could not speculate about what might cause (or have caused) a stroke or if she had, indeed, experienced a stroke. I don't know exactly what happened at that place, but I do know, all too well, that she left almost too energetic and interactive to hold, and came back dull, unresponsive to affection, confused and withdrawn. I hope this summary will keep other pet parents and their respective pets from experiencing what we experienced...and the horror continues. .. read more

I am an obsessive pet owner and it is embarrassing. I won't go into details, as they are embarrassing as well but, if you are like me, you know what I am talking about. Given said obsessiveness, when it came to needing to kennel my puppy, I was concerned beyond belief. We toured our vet's facilities which were little metal cages where they were let out twice a day. I think I cried. Then we came to Rock Creek. I cried again - this time in joy/relief. I am embarrassed to say that I do not remember the name of the lady that gave me a tour - that's right, we showed up and she gave us a personalized tour of the place with no advance notice. The place seemed calm and cozy with not a lot of hustle and bustle. It was clean and the dogs that were there seemed really happy. Our tour guide noted a small dachshund that was being boarded for the first time. She told us that he was a little shy then opened the door, picked him up and carried him around with us for the rest of the tour - THEY LOVE YOUR DOGS!!! At that point I was sold. The runs with separate inside rooms, the clean facilities, the fact that they provide blankets for the puppies, the FREE playtime everyday, and the pictures on the wall of the current visitors (they seriously take pictures of the puppies and post them on the wall) were all icing on the cake. Needless to say, our dog had a great time at the kennel. She got a report card telling us all about how she ate and pooped - perfect for the obsessive dog owner. It is a bit expensive, but not compared to other facilities like it. The pick-up and drop-off hours are not super convenient, but that hardly takes away from the rating of this place. Go here. I don't think they did a great job. Our dog stayed two nights and upon pickup she needed bathroom 4 times in first hour. I don't think they let her out while there. They also has 3 dog shits on path into entrance which speaks to their professionalism and level of awareness. I use kennels frequently and this one tied for last with one in Vegas. Our dogs are always happy when we take them there, so I think its safe to say they are well taken care of there. I like that there is a house on the property, so if say a flood or fire broke out, our dogs would have a good chance of rescue. That's the main reason why I send them here. I would've given 5 stars, but the way they charge for pick ups on Sundays is frustrating. You're charged an extra night if you pick up on Sunday, even if you get grooming done. Grooming is good to do, so you can pick your dog up later and they won't have a kennel smell. A nice report card with the dogs pictures are provided. read more

Rock Creek Kennels is superior to comparable kennels in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. The facility is awesome, in a beautiful country setting and is very clean. There are a variety of boarding options available with many enclosed and well maintained play areas. In addition to all of this, the customer service and management of this facility is exemplary. I know this after experiencing numerous incompetencies at nearby Cooper Mountain Kennels where I have boarded my pooch two times. What I learned from Cooper Mountain was that poor management = poor employee training and very poor customer service that puts our pets at a level of risk not worth taking. read more

We've been bringing our pups to Rock Creek for several years now! They absolutely love it!! Which makes it much easier to leave them behind for a few days as needed. Both dogs come home and crash because they are so tired from all the fun...also very nice! They bunk together which we love. The room for them to sleep is a bit small but they have so much space to roam with access to outside so that helps a ton! Plus they get yard time twice a day too. We have our pups go by themselves to the yard as one of ours might not play well with others...it's nice to have that option. The staff is outstanding...very responsive to emails/calls/etc...check in/out process is super easy too! We love when they get a bath at the end of their stay...they always smell good and their nails are nicely trimmed! Honestly, a great place to bring your pups!! We've been taking our dogs to Rock Creek Kennels for the past three years and have had no issues until a recent visit. Earlier this summer we brought our two dogs to Rock Creek Kennels for a quick three day trip. We had also signed up to have to dogs bathed when we picked them up, and we were told they would be ready by 10:30am on the day we were picking them up. Everything seemed fine as usual. My husband was right on time to pick them up three days later. One dog was ready, the other was not even bathed yet so he had to wait. It was evident they rushed to get her bath completed, and barely bothered to brush her hair as it ended up being so matted I had to give her another bath and brush on my own that evening. Not really what you expect when you pay the extra $30+ for this service. But I was willing to look past this. Additionally, when he picked up the dogs, they forgot to give him our dog bed's back and he did not realize this until he was home. Granted this is as much his fault, as the kennels, it's just one more thing that added to this and resulted in another 45 min drive back to the kennel. Then when he brought the dogs home, I greeted them outside. My one dog happens to pee when she gets excited, and I knew this would be the case since I hadn't seen her in a few days. Sure enough, she peed on our patio. And when she did, it was dark brown/red in color. It was shocking, to say the least. I immediately called my vet and brought her for an emergency examination. They did an ultrasound of her bladder, and didn't find any stones, etc (she had a bladder stone a year earlier and this is what I originally assumed it was). Upon giving her a physical examination, our vet pointed out a large bump on her abdomen and asked if I had seen it before. No, never. She went to take a sample of it, and when she pulled out the syringe it was just blood. She said it was a bruise/blood blister...most often caused by some sort of trauma. Just in case, the vet did collect an (expensive) urine sample and a blood sample to rule out any sort of disease. As soon as I came home I called Rock Creek to see if anything happened to her during her visit. The man I spoke to checked her file and said there was no record of anything but that he would check with the staff and call back. When I did speak to the kennel again, they assured me no one noticed anything, and she was acted her normal self the whole time. I tried to calmly explain to him that she was fine when we dropped her off, and definitely not fine when we picked her up so something must have happened. I completely understand that accidents happen...even if you don't see them. I can't prove that something happened there for sure, but for this business to not own up to anything, apologize, or offer anything for our troubles was extremely upsetting to me. Our dogs are our family, as I'm sure you all understand. They just kept assuring me she only played with other dogs her same size and nothing happened. I look at this from their point of view and can understand that if truly nobody noticed anything, it's hard to take the blame. But they're also a business that relies on referrals. It's hard enough for pet owners to leave their dogs anyway and how can they expect I would trust to leave them there again? I said this to them and they offered no answer. A couple days later, the tests from the vet came back and she was 100% healthy aside from the bruise/bump and the only assumption we have is that something must have happened whether she fell from somewhere, got stepped on, kicked, knocked over, attacked...etc. Who knows. Thankfully, the urine cleared up after a day or so and the bump went away after about a week and a half. I'm so happy my pup is ok, but it still does not make this whole ordeal ok. I paid a little extra to take my dogs to Rock Creek as I thought they were a great facility where I wouldn't have to worry about a thing. They're not cheap. On top of that, I then had an emergency vet bill with an ultrasound and diagnostic testing to pay for as well. No one offered to help with anything. Like I said, I understand bad things sometimes happen but I do not believe this situation was handled well on their end. Needless to say, I'm now shopping for a new kennel (and am now even more hesitant and stressed to leave my dogs again!). I'm sad to say this, as I used to speak highly of them, but I will never, ever, refer anyone to Rock Creek again. So if you're looking for a kennel, my advice is to do your research, ask questions, and ask for a tour. Just know that you can't prevent everything. I'm not trying to be harsh, I just wanted to share my story. read more

Miles is an important part of our family and we wouldn't trust him with just anyone. The team at Rock Creek Kennels really does care for all the animals they board as if they were their own. I've seen that many times - when a dog needs a little bit more TLC they keep it up front. They keep the kennel clean and make sure all their residents get the right amount of exercise and attention. DIarrhea!! My small dog stayed at Rock Creek this week for four days. She is so sick she hasn't eaten since Wednesday. We gave the kennel her own food, but I don't know if they fed it to her. The fake turf may harbor a lot of bacteria so she might have tried to lick her feet off and got a horrible stomach issue! I called the kennel and they said spring break is chaotic. I think they took on way more dogs than they can handle. My daughter said she thought they had 104 dogs there when she picked up ours. They had the names of the dogs and photos on a board. My dog has never been this sick! read more

I can't thank Debbie and her staff enough for all the hard work and effort they put in to taking care of my mother's dog when my mother was unexpectedly taken into hospital over the holidays this past Christmas. I live 5000 miles away in Scotland and they went above and beyond to look after Sam for all of us. The care and attention Sam received was second to none and I am grateful to have found such a lovely place to look after my mother's best friend and companion. I am terrible at remembering phone numbers so I googled Rock Creek Kennels to get the phone number and for whatever reason decided to read all of their yelp reviews. I feel a little guilty that I have not taken the time to write a review before, as they have been boarding animals for me for several years. Currently I only have one dog - Oliver. Oliver LOVES going to Rock Creek Kennels. It is like his home away from home. Oliver is boarded 3-4 times a year - and at least one of those stays is usually 6 - 7 days. I could go on and on about the staff, the ease of making a reservation, the convenience that they remind me when his vaccinations need to be done - but in the end the only real recommendation that matters is Oliver's. When we drive up he scrambles to get out of the car, he walks in like he owns the place, and doesn't whimper or whine when I leave. Great place for you to leave the furry member of your family so you can enjoy your travel knowing that your furry family member is going to enjoy their vacation too. read more
