My wife likes a sweet Rose, and while not my favorite, I agree that their Jeremiah strikes that delicate balance between being too sweet and not sweet enough. Really nice porch sipping wine. Their dessert wine is about the only dessert wine I will buy, again, not too sweet, just really, REALLY nice. Their chardonnay is a hit as well, overall a very nice selection of surprising wines, reasonably priced. Definitely recommend a visit. read more

I've been here before and had a great time, though I was extremely disappointed with my service today. I came in with a friend and sat down for a tasting. After pouring the first wine, our server gave no descriptions of the wine at all. After mentioning we both worked at a vineyard nearby (and my friend having worked at three other vineyards in the area), we thought they might be more attentive or try to give even a little bit of a description. Unfortunately that was not the case. Both servers pouring tastings spent their time talking to a couple next to us (who had already finished their tasting). We decided to just buy a bottle halfway through our tasting because we were on a time crunch and didn't have time to continue waiting. Honestly the worst experience I've had at any vineyard in the southern VA area. All that said, they do have some really decent wine. I would suggest buying a bottle rather than waiting around for a tasting. read more

I was traversing through Virginia, stopping roughly every 30 min for my wine country tour. Had a great (free) tasting. The grounds are beautiful, even on a rainy day. The customer service was amazing. Our host was very knowledgeable and it was so fun to visit. We were the only people there with another couple, so maybe we just went when it wasn't prime time. It was around lunch time on a weekday. I left with some cases of wine and their specialty liquor filled chocolate. Can't wait to go back! read more

As relative new comers to the area, we have tried several wineries and Rockbridge hands down is our favorite. The viognier and the dry Riesling are delicious! Our tasting was hosted by a patient and friendly staff member who poured many different wines for us, very graciously. Plus the scenery there is lovely. We adore this place! read more

We visited Rockbridge on a Saturday morning on our way to Blacksburg. The tasting room is in a barn-like structure with a tasting bar and a small deck overlooking the vineyard. We tasted about 12 wines poured by Drury. She was very friendly and knowledgable about the wines and the winemaker. Tasting are complementary. In general the Rockbridge wines we tasted were not among my favorite Virginia wines, although the Pinot Noir Blanc was quite nice as was the ice wine. We purchased a few bottles for enjoyment at home. read more

Dad and I have been here twice, it's worth the 3 hour drive. He loves the Tuscarora Red, I enjoy several different ones, but I love that they have a Norton wine. The people there are friendly enough (though the one older guy could be a little friendlier) and the tasting room is quite small. We visited this vineyard on a Saturday. The tasting was free, which was nice, and the wine educator did an ok job. Overall, we found the wines so-so. The only one that really stood out was the 2012 Rockbridge V D'OR - a dessert/ice wine. It was very good and very reasonably priced, should you want a bottle. read more

Discovered this little vineyard several years ago in VA. Went out of my way last year to go pick up one of my favorite dessert wines. Opened a 2008 Ve'Or this afternoon. It is a combination of Riesling, Traminette, Vidal Blanc, and Vignoles pressed frozen. Wonderful nectar! read more

It is unusual for us to stop at a vineyard without reading about it, but we saw the sign on I-81 on the way to Blacksburg and decided to stop in and check it out. First of all, free tastings... haven't seen that anywhere else in VA, MD or CA! The woman who greeted us and led our tasting was very friendly and knowledgeable. They have quite a wide variety of wines that they make and they were the first vineyard I've found in VA that actually grows a pinot noir. They use it without the skin for a pinot noir blanc (pretty interesting) that was much better than their regular pinot. I thought the Tuscarora Red (quite an interesting blend of 5 grapes) and their concord wines were pretty unique and worth buying to enjoy later. I would recommend making a stop here - it is very convenient to I-81 and it's pretty likely they'll have something you'll like! read more

Loved it! They are now open on Mondays and the guy was an excellent host. He even showed us around and gave a mini tour and explained their process at our request. The wines were good, nice variety and all of them tasted good. I felt they knew their wines better than some of the other wineries in the area. read more

oh what a fablous experience i had at rockbridge, and this is how the story goes. it was a september sunday, and i knew i had to utilize the warm weather. i set out on my vespa on 501 headed towards the blue ridge parkway. i decided to keep on going and hit buena vista (pronounced byoo-na vista in virginia) until i got to interstate 81. i headed north on 81 (not really knowing where i would end up) and saw some signs for rockbridge vineyard. realizing this would enhance my experience, i got off of 81 and headed 5 miles into the virginia countryside towards rockbridge. i came to the vineyard and drove on the gravel road towards the barn. i parked and opted to not take a tour but do a taste test. i walked in and was greeted with smiles. i didn't know where everyone came from, because it was full of people but there weren't too many cars. i proceeded to do a tasting (kinda pretending i knew what i was doing as i had never done a tasting at a vineyard before) and chatted with visitors and employees alike. i tasted several red wines and ended up buying a 2002 vintage dechiel merlot (their signature). being relaxed and feeling great, but not tipsy, i drove up 81 and hit 64. i headed east on 64 until i got to the blue ridge parkway. i headed back south on the parkway, met a family from france, and had that gregory peck and audrey hepburn - esque ride through the parkway that sunday (minus a girl on back). if you're on interstate 81 and you see signs for rockbridge, necessitate a stop, and everyone will thank you later. cleanse your palet. head to rockbridge. read more

A Charming little country vineyard...right off I81, with lots of different wines to try. Way above normal list of Virginia wines, some definite keepers, including a non-oaked Chardonnay, and a surprising Syrah. Usually no food on-site, unless food trucks come, but we found them having a charity chille and cornbread (and music) special event. It was terrific! Easy to find, very friendly, very affordable bottles, and a free tasting. Make the time to get off the highway and try them! read more

My wife and I stopped here on the way back to NoVa from Lexington on a Saturday around 2pm. Not far off I-81 and very easy to find. We were the only two customers in the tasting room. I didn't find the two staff members especially warm or welcoming. We looked around the "store" for a minute or two and when we approached the tasting counter, I told the woman behind the counter that my wife and I were interested in a tasting and she said something to the effect, "Well, I kind of figured that" or something along those lines. She pulled out a "menu" and made a mark with a Sharpie next to about 10 of the wines. I asked her if those were the wines they currently had in stock and she said those were the ones she had that were opened. We liked all 4 of the whites we tasted and ended up buying a bottle of the Jeremiah. Probably the shortest tasting we've ever had - we were in/out in about 10 minutes. read more

This is my favorite winery. The people are friendly and not pretentious at all. They are very knowledgeable about their wines. You can taste as many as you'd like of the ones they have open that day. Tastings are free. Their wine is delicious, and it is a good value! You can buy many from $10 to $14 each, and they give locals a discount. They also welcome children. They even have a basket of toys. I like to go there, sample wine, and pack my lunch to eat in their covered patio. The setting is gorgeous. You must visit this winery! read more
