I will state that it should be a 2.5, wasn't exactly a 2 nor a 3. We went here on a whim to try it out since we were out walking around the wharf for the day. There were not that many people in the restaurant and it was nice inside. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer which was very underwhelming. Not only was their very little crab, it was flat, and had cheese in it (which is a bit odd). Then we had a bowl of clam chowder and it was bland along with dry clams - not sure why. Don't let the beautiful harbor window seating and unique dining room fool you. We chose to eat at Rockfish because we thought it would be a nicer experience but wound up with extremely expensive quick service food. The table and chairs looked like we were in a diner and were wobbly since they were moved to pack other large parties near the back of the restaurant. We waited at the table for over 15 minutes before even being greeted. While waiting, the party next to us was having to send back their meal to the manager for an improper cook. The manager walked by our table and said thank you for your patience, but did nothing else to help the server get our table going. We finally got drinks and our appetizer. The Castroville Artichoke was supposed to be served chilled but was hot. The roasted garlic aioli was poured in the center of the artichoke rather than a dipping bowl which made getting to the middle and the heart very messy as all of the delicate leaves were covered in sauce. Our appetizer plates were only cleared right before our meal came and some of my party was left with dirty silverware while the others had them taken away with no replacements. When our food was delivered, we asked the expediter, wearing blue kitchen gloves, for another plate since I told the server I would be sharing with my son. His response was, "Ask your server," who we hardly ever saw. They had to auction off every item and handed us our plates rather than serving them in front of us. My Rockfish Fish & Chips had overcooked crunchy ends that were just batter. I assume the fries were frozen based on quality and were served lukewarm. My mother said her chowder was good but nothing to rave about. My husband had the Whole Dungeness Crab, MP $58 which was oddly placed on top of mashed potatoes. The liquid from the crab made the potatoes extremely soggy and in turn, the mash covered the bottom of the crab and made it even more slippery and difficult to eat. I had to ask for a soda refill twice and each time my glass was taken to the back to be refilled without adding any extra ice. When dessert was delivered, we were given 3 spoons even though there were 5 of us, and once again had to wait for silverware. Worst place to have a nice meal. I celebrated my wedding anniversary of over 15 years, took a trip to Monterey Bay. The service was horrible. Even though they had tables, they made us wait at the bar. Then after we were sat, we ordered. Once we got the food, the server kept coming back to our table ever few minutes to rush us to order more food, or a dessert, or leave. I mean, we hadn't even finished half of our food. There were a number of staff standing around a speaking with one another. We were given menus and a glass of water. After that no one came to our table to take our order. I suggest you change the sign and also inform people who order the happy hour drinks during happy hour that they are not eligible when not at the bar. Strolled through the Fishermans Wharf area to find a place to have dinner for my husbands birthday. We took a peek at their menu and their entrees looked delicious. We were seated quickly by a lovely young woman right at the windows - a perfect view of the otters and sea lions swimming around the boats. They had a wide selection and several specials to choose from. I had a fantastic moscato and my husband had a mango margarita - they were absolutely delicious! Our entrees were the roast chicken with sautéed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes ... my husband had a salmon with sautéed veggies, garlic mashed potatoes with a sun dried tomato and basil sauce - both had such flavor! The garlic and seasoning...the creamy tomato basil flavors...the sautéed spinach and veggies were cooked perfectly! I had to have the Creme brûlée- it was a perfect way for me to celebrate with him ... and the thoughtful young woman who checked on us saw me teasing my husband about his birthday - she brought out some ice cream for him! Everything was lovely! The servers are so attentive..they didn't linger but walked around to be available in case anyone needed anything. For most of its life, this restaurant used to be Rappa's. It's at the end of the wharf on Old Fisherman's Wharf, and it affords the best views of Monterey Bay of any place you'll find. I used to go to Rappa's with my family when I was a kid in the Fifties. I've been going ever since, even though the quality of the food began to decline toward the end. When the Rappa family sold the place, it became something else (Big Fish or something), and the food continued to deteriorate in taste. Now, as the Rockfish Harbor Grill, their standards have improved considerably. Everything my wife and I had there recently was excellent, especially the delicious clam chowder.
