This review is primarily for British guests: we ordered a starter and the entrees arrived a minute after the starter, we sent them back and suggested that we were allowed to finish our starter first. They appeared totally bemused at this request. The entrees arrived again before we had finished our starter but we accepted them. The rockfish fillets were OK but the fisherman's platter was poor as the menu does not state that the fish is in batter, only that the fish is fried. Glorified KFC. The service was OK but on the basis that you are paying over £100 for your meal, it should have been better. read more

The food were not good and undercooked. We waited an hour for our meal and the service was so bad. I asked for Tabasco and I was almost done with my food and they barely gave it to me and it was just the worst experience I've had in Monterey. I would rather get some food at the stands nearby like the one near the entrance and the worst part was when we were paying the waiter didn't even asked us how much we wanted to tip he just pressed the highest tip option I just think that was very rude and unnecessary especially after our whole experience plus my sister didn't even want to tip on the card because we had planned on tipping cash since we were all contributing. My husband and I took our granddaughters to Rockfish harbor on Thursday evening. We frequent the wharf often and usually patron the old fisherman's grotto or the now closed Scales, which we love both, however tonight we thought we would give This new restaurant a go. It was a steady night but no wait. My granddaughters had the shrimp and fried calamari which they enjoyed. My husband and I both had the sirloin steaks which were cooked perfectly. We added a little butter to the tops for extra flare. Since we do not eat potatoes we requested all veggies. The veggies were somewhat lacking variety. (Many peppers). This would be my only recommendation for change. The atmosphere was pleasant great view, clean, and the waiter was spot on. Koodos to the support staff for also being highly attentive with drinks and needs. Overall a very nice experience. Well done. We will come back again and bring friends. read more

It had been at least ten years since we'd been to Monterey. It brought back memories of taking the kids to the aquarium and shopping on cannery row. Had dinner here with hubby on a Tuesday night (3/1/22) around 6:30 with high hopes after looking at the menu on line. We were promptly seated by a friendly host and within a minute, our server was asking us our drink order. I had the pear martini which was to die for. Hubby had Sierra Mist and water so it was as expected, refreshing. Anyway, we started with clam chowder. Very tasty. Then garlic cheese bread, hot, garlicky/cheesy and yummy. Hubby ordered a whole cracked crab $55.00 ( they said a 2 pounder or so) with drawn butter. He said the crab was mild, sweet and fresh. He loved it. I had the seafood trio $36.00 and substituted the salmon for rockfish. It came with 2 giant prawns, 2 scallops, filet of Rockfish (usually Salmon), perfectly seasoned, asparagus and mashed potatoes. Oh and the Sicilian sauce that came with the trio was unbelievable. it is like a rich, chunky tomato bisque cream sauce. I was unsure what it would taste like so ordered it on the side And I think I licked the ramekin clean:) Bill was $140 but totally worth it. We highly recommend Rockfish Harbor Grill. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first time this evening and it was an excellent experience. We ordered the seafood pasta, grilled rockfish, and the crab and artichoke dip, and they were all very tasty. Our waiter Jose was very nice and informative, and the rest of the staff was very attentive, continually filling our waters which is a big plus. It's usually some minor subtle things that can make a meal from average to good to excellent, and this place has what it takes. We will be back next visit and will have to try their cioppino. read more

My husband and I were visiting Monterey with my sister and her husband. We decided we should eat seafood on the water while there and decided to try this place. We found the staff very kind and helpful. Between us we ordered crab cakes and chowder to start; then had fish and chips, the seafood pasta and the Caesar salad with grilled Rockfish. We were very pleased with all of our choices. We are from the north and have little experience with rockfish but discovered it is quite delicious! The seafood pasta was pretty amazing as well, and we definitely are glad we chose to eat there. read more

I've always loved this location at the end of the Wharf due to the panoramic videos and I was thrilled to see Rockfish Harbor Grill open recently. Tonight, we tried a flavorful Shrimp Scampi that had an absolutely delicious light sauce to accompany the prawns. The sauce included tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, white wine, lemon, capers on a bed of rice and it was great! My husband had Salmon Filet that was cooked perfectly and accompanied by sautéed vegetables including sliced peppers and zucchini, garlic mashed potatoes, with a tasty sun-dried tomato-basil sauce. The views from this restaurant are fantastic and today there were a group of small sailboats, whale watching boats and fishing boats that were fascinating to view. We ate here with our family after traveling over three hours from out of town, the service was TERRIBLE. After waiting for a few minutes to be seated, noone greeted us. Let me tell you I am not exaggerating when I say none of the staff smiled the whole entire time of our visit. Our food was "ok" but overpriced with the portions you get, but our waiter JORGE was TERRIBLE! The rudest waiter I have ever encountered!! I cant believe how rude he was. He rushed us through our order, when I asked for no pickles on my daughters hamberger he said to "just take it off". We never got offered re-fills on our drinks. Jorge had an attitude the whole time. The worst part was when I was filling out bill, he hovered over me the whole time. When I handed him ticket he noticed I didnt leave the tip on the bill (my husband was going to leave cash) he yelled at me & said, "the tip is not included!! You didnt add the tip!!" I told him I knew that but he didnt let me explain, he went on & on how the waiters have to split their tips. I was shaking, soo uncomfortable, embarressed, and surprised. I just walked away. Never will I recommend this place. We have been going since I was a child growing up. Im thinking maybe new ownership? But this place was awful. read more

My friend and I are also employees on the wharf and decided to come here for the break we were getting while working doubles on a crazy Labor Day. Decided to take seats at the bar and was not even acknowledged by the bartender. He did not look up he did not offer menus he did not wipe the counter. He ignored me and after asking for menus he walked away. We asked him for our drinks, he did not offer any. And he did not even acknowledge that we were speaking to him. He proceeded to make several other drinks for the restaurant with no sense of urgency whatsoever. We finally got her drinks about 10 minutes into this experience, and then we had to ask him what were some items that were quick fire because we were on a break and he offered a few suggestions. Never acknowledged our order and never told us he put it in and ever said anything. Never gave us play settings. We had to ask other employees for those. I food came out, he never touched back, he never engaged with us he looked literally miserable during his shift, barely even speaking to his coworkers. We asked him for another round of drinks at least three or four times before he proceeded to make them, without so much as a verbal acknowledgment of our request. We really fell as if we had done something wrong just by sitting at the bar. The entire time we were speaking English because that's what we speak but when he did respond to us when we paid he responded to us in Spanish? The food was OK. The calamari horrible. Couldn't even chew it it was like chewing on rubber without any flavor, the crabcakes looked like somebody sat on them before they brought them. Firecracker shrimp was all right IMO but a little bit oversauced. None of this was worth the tab that we paid, especially given the complete lack of service. Both being in the industry we could totally understand a quiet demeanor is the restaurant was busy, but it was not very busy at all. read more

Once we were seated, it took over 20 minutes to have anyone come and acknowledge our table and get a drink order, and there were many servers working and walking past our table. There was no ice for our beverages, even though people seated after us received ice. I got the harbor pasta dish and the pasta came in one giant clump and the seafood was overall unpleasant. I imagine olive garden could have made it better. Overall the operation seems unorganized and care free. There are plenty of other places on the wharf to go to, so I would suggest you try one of those. read more

Beautiful restaurant at the end of the wharf. Very clean and artfully decorated. Large windows with beautiful views of the harbor and bay. We had raw oysters, the crab dip, chioppino, sand dabs and the crab ravioli. All were super fresh with amazing flavors. Good drink menu as well. read more

So this was a new place and definitely wanted to give it a try since I have eaten at almost each place on the pier here. And the restaurant decor was nice. Views are great. BUT the food was just disappointing. I got a shrimp Louie and it was nauseating and stomach turning. Dollar store frozen shrimp it looked like, hard as hell bacon, horrible flavor. My boyfriend got the Monterey scampi and the shrimp and sauce were just okay but the rice tasted like licorice and there are huge soggy tomatoes all over the plate with only 5-6 shrimp mind you. And watch out on your bill, they definitely are trying to charge and over charge for everything. They put the price of a bowl of clam chowder instead of a cup. Water is tap water with a metal taste. Basically choose another restaurant cause this isn't the one you want to spend $70-$100! We paid for two sodas, 1 meal and 2 cups of clam chowder and it was $51!!!! Not worth it, I'm still hungry. read more
