It's a nicely laid out and good-sized restaurant. You have a good chance of sitting by the window to check out the whale-cruising or other boats coming and going. The service was good. My only complain is that I found the fish and chips to only be OK. They were very dry and not seasoned well. They definitely needed some salt. I also didn't care for the breading. I was disappointed with my coffee because the cream they gave me had tiny curdle bits that floated in my coffee. They should carefully check their cream to make sure there always fresh. Went to look around at restaurants and saw this place at the end of the wharf. First off it's beautiful inside! The views are amazing and the seating it quite roomy. Secondly they're Kid FRIENDLY and have a simple kids menu! Third and most importantly the food was amazing and the food came out so quick! We got fish and chips and it was delicious!!! read more

Made a reservation here on accident, was thinking of a different one. Location is great at the end if the wharf. Can't really see the view because the lights are blinding. I was very cold. We told them it was anniversary dinner and they sat noisy kids near us. Food was good, not amazing. Service attentive, but not friendly. I was cold, it was loud, can't see out the windows. This restaurant is FANTASTIC! We recommend Mundo, Oscar, or Cero as your waiters. Top notch! The restaurant was at the end of fisherman's wharf. We had a great table at the window with a view of the harbor. The appetizer of crab with artichokes was very good. The cioppino was probably the best I've ever had with garlic bread for dipping. The fisherman's platter was a nice assortment of fried fish, shrimp and seafood- very nice. We were in Monterey on a Tuesday night and decided to get takeout from one of the restaurants on the pier. Most of the restaurants would not do takeout so we walked toward the end of the pier and saw this restaurant and they do take out! We thought the price was reasonable so we ordered the rockfish and chips, clam chowder, and the grilled sourdough crab melt sandwich. They didn't give us any tartar sauce for the fish and chips and I didn't like that the fish were panko crusted (it makes the fish very chewy) . The clam chowder was meh, I've had better. The crab melt was average. Just a slice of American cheese and some crab meat sandwiched between two slice of toasts. Overall I don't think I will go back if I happen to be in Monterey. read more

Terrible service. We are Monterey locals. I took my 10 year old son for a late lunch to enjoy the pier view. We ordered simple: kids fish n chips and a shrimp platter. We waited for 30 minutes and the tables filled around us. 50 minutes later the tables that arrived after us were all served and enjoying cracked crab etc while we were still waiting for our food (and hopefully for the opportunity to refill our drinks). 1 hour after ordering, we inquired with another server as to when we will be served. The original waiter arrived and said "sorry, kitchen is backed up", but offered no explanation as to why those that arrived after us received their more complex orders. We eventually gave up and paid $25 for our drinks. I asked to speak with a manager and they said he was "too busy" to speak with me so I left my phone number. Being a local I can't WAIT to share my experience with all the people I run into at my job as well as friends and family that want to visit. Terrible service, no accountability by management, complete fail. There are waaay better places people. read more

Trying to find a place to sit down for lunch with kids isn't so easy here. We were welcomed in by such friendly staff! The view is AMAZING and we watched two captains masterfully maneuvering their ships back to the dock. We really wanted the bread bowls (SO GOOD!) and they had decent options for our kids (buttered pasta and fish n chips). Some restaurants there felt too nice for us, but this one was great! We can't rave enough about how nice it was for us to feel comfortable with the kids at a sit down restaurant with great staff and great service! We will be back for sure! read more

Amazing Views! The food is also good (I recommend the firecracker shrimp!) My husband and I went for vacation and we went to the bar where Danny, and Brittany took very good care of us. They were both very attentive of us and made sure we were satisfied as soon as we sat down. They were busy most of the time, but that didn't stop them on making sure we were satisfied. Since we had such a great time with amazing drinks and food, we decided to come the next day for dinner. Brittany was our server and she did not disappoint. She recommended us the seafood trio and I'm so glad I chose that entree. She was excellent, she was very attentive and was ahead of the game when we needed things. End of Old Fisherman's Pier, place looks quiet in outside, but goes deep with view of water. Nice ambience. Food portion was good. Unfortunately food was ok given the pricey food. Sand dabs came with veggies and rice, fresh but TOOO salty. A pinch of sale would have sufficed. Crunch of salt in every little bite. Could barely finish cuz too salty. Let the flavor of fish speak for itself, not the salt. Fisherman's platter has two deep fried shrimp, two small cod filet and mostly calamari over bed of fries. Portion good but mostly fries. Conclusion, seafood fresh but price not worth it. $23 and $22 respectively, expected more given price. read more

Great clam chowder bowl and a cup. Skip the bread bowl. My go-to entree is fish & chips with a side of malt vinegar, very disappointed it only came with two tiny pieces of rockfish. In my experience most fish & chips I've ordered at other restaurants contain three nice pieces of fish. Rockfish you can do better. The night we dined we actually went into all the restaurants on the pier, many were undesirable. Rockfish is one of the cleanest and nicest restaurants on the Monterey Pier. Wait staff is great, but they need to always bring oyster crackers when clam chowder is served and have sherry in-house for guests that like it in their clam chowder. read more

My parents stopped by here yesterday. They enjoyed the majority of their food until my mom had the Rockfish Sandwich. After taking a few bites she realized that something was off about the taste. She immediately started coughing and rushed straight to the restroom. She got ill(from both ends) instantly and was barely able to walk. My dad had to help her out of the restaurant. My parents were still charged for their food after this whole episode. Mind you, my parents came there on an empty stomach so it was definitely something wrong with the Rockfish sandwich. My dad asked for soda water to help calm my mom's stomach a bit and they had the nerve to charge him $7 for it. I don't usually write negative reviews but this is concerning. read more

Our business was not important to him to say the least. We decided to stay because our party of 10 was already settled in and ready to eat! From the wonderful greeting we thought we were in for a treat but what followed was a poor example of Cali Coastal Cuisine. From the waiter who literally said "hurry up" when we were ordering to not being able to tell us how hot something was on the menu. To our creamy and nothing else clam chowder, to a weak spicy chicken sandwich nothing here was special or memorable especially since I was celebrating my 60th birthday. Would not recommend even with two of their competitors being closed...go to any other restaurant on the Wharf or better yet go through the drive-thru at McDonald's at least they are consistent with what you expect. read more

This review is primarily for British guests: we ordered a starter and the entrees arrived a minute after the starter, we sent them back and suggested that we were allowed to finish our starter first. They appeared totally bemused at this request. The entrees arrived again before we had finished our starter but we accepted them. The rockfish fillets were OK but the fisherman's platter was poor as the menu does not state that the fish is in batter, only that the fish is fried. Glorified KFC. My husband and I took our granddaughters to Rockfish harbor on Thursday evening. We frequent the wharf often and usually patron the old fisherman's grotto or the now closed Scales, which we love both, however tonight we thought we would give This new restaurant a go. It was a steady night but no wait. My granddaughters had the shrimp and fried calamari which they enjoyed. My husband and I both had the sirloin steaks which were cooked perfectly. We added a little butter to the tops for extra flare. Since we do not eat potatoes we requested all veggies. The veggies were somewhat lacking variety. (Many peppers). This would be my only recommendation for change. The atmosphere was pleasant great view, clean, and the waiter was spot on. Koodos to the support staff for also being highly attentive with drinks and needs. Overall a very nice experience. Well done. We will come back again and bring friends. read more

The food were not good and undercooked. We waited an hour for our meal and the service was so bad. I asked for Tabasco and I was almost done with my food and they barely gave it to me and it was just the worst experience I've had in Monterey. I would rather get some food at the stands nearby like the one near the entrance and the worst part was when we were paying the waiter didn't even asked us how much we wanted to tip he just pressed the highest tip option I just think that was very rude and unnecessary especially after our whole experience plus my sister didn't even want to tip on the card because we had planned on tipping cash since we were all contributing. We took in the wharf and stumbled on the rockfish harbor grill. The view from our table was beautiful. Had dinner here with hubby on a Tuesday night (3/1/22) around 6:30 with high hopes after looking at the menu on line. We were promptly seated by a friendly host and within a minute, our server was asking us our drink order. I had the pear martini which was to die for. Hubby had Sierra Mist and water so it was as expected, refreshing. Anyway, we started with clam chowder. Very tasty. Then garlic cheese bread, hot, garlicky/cheesy and yummy. Hubby ordered a whole cracked crab $55.00 ( they said a 2 pounder or so) with drawn butter. He said the crab was mild, sweet and fresh. He loved it. I had the seafood trio $36.00 and substituted the salmon for rockfish. It came with 2 giant prawns, 2 scallops, filet of Rockfish (usually Salmon), perfectly seasoned, asparagus and mashed potatoes. Oh and the Sicilian sauce that came with the trio was unbelievable. it is like a rich, chunky tomato bisque cream sauce. I was unsure what it would taste like so ordered it on the side And I think I licked the ramekin clean:) Bill was $140 but totally worth it. We highly recommend Rockfish Harbor Grill. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first time this evening and it was an excellent experience. We ordered the seafood pasta, grilled rockfish, and the crab and artichoke dip, and they were all very tasty. Our waiter Jose was very nice and informative, and the rest of the staff was very attentive, continually filling our waters which is a big plus. It's usually some minor subtle things that can make a meal from average to good to excellent, and this place has what it takes. We will be back next visit and will have to try their cioppino. read more
