While a very cute establishment, the food and coffee was downright terrible. We went in the morning after opening, and everything had to be warmed up in the microwave. The burritos were stale, the quiche was still half cold, and the cinnamon roll, while a very nice size, tasted like it had been sitting in the case for a day or two. The drinks were lukewarm, and half of them came out wrong, and they took a good 15 minutes to get four drinks out, despite there being no one else ordering. We're staying at the Sun Mountain lodge but due to covid-19 their breakfast menu is pretty limited. Super glad to have found this bakery! They carry a variety of breakfast options: breakfast sandwich, quiche, assorted pastries, muffins and baked goods. The coffee was my favorite part because WOW, IT WAS GOOD. The Espresso Bar had a huge menu, options for kids and adults both, delicious flavored syrups and several styles of coffee to choose from. I got an iced peppermint latte and it was sheer perfection. The syrup didn't overpower the flavor of espresso and the ice:milk ratio was spot on. I definitely plan on going back for another latte before we head back to Seattle! The barista was super sweet as well. We ordered a cinnamon roll, cheddar and chive scone, and 2 peach blueberry muffins. For drinks, we got an iced peppermint latte, chai lattes and a cappuccino. The drinks were delicious and the cinnamon roll and muffins were pretty yummy while the scone was meh. Hey, I was in Wenatchee and stayed nearby. I came here every morning. The food and coffee are great, and the staff is really nice.

A nice stop for a quick breakfast in town. Tons of baked goods (even ones half off from the previous day), a few premade breakfast sandwiches, and little quiches. There's really not great eating options in Winthrop, and only two that offer breakfast or breakfast type food. Rocking Horse Bakery was okay. I had a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and bacon. All breakfast sandwiches were pre-made, wrapped in tin foil, so was soggy and not any better than a gas station breakfast sandwich. When we reached Winthrop, due to second round of covid restrictions most of the eateries were closed in town. After chatting with owner of a local gas station, and asking him for local recommendations, he suggested couple of places which unfortunately were closed but luckily as it turns out, this one cafe was still open for take out. Walked in here in a borderline famished situation (were driving down from Seattle - Leavenworth - Wenatchee -Okanagan). Being vegetarian, me and my wifey ordered a slice of tomato - artichoke pizza and a veggie kiesh. Within few minutes our order was ready and man, that slice of pizza was something magical It was hands down one the best slice of veggie pizza I ever laid my teeth on. Just visited Winthrop on a weekend trip and this was our favorite spot! Everything is fresh and delicious. Such a cute, local bakery.

Weird attitude from the staff. Cashier spent forever chatting with the customer in front of us while we waited patiently. Then complained about how busy it is on Saturdays while she took our order. Then started chatting with the customer behind us while she finished up our order. She was also very disorganized and slow. Later the barista got annoyed with me for asking if the cream dispenser was empty, then snapped at my wife for asking we were expected to clear our table before we left. Some places ask that you don't so that they know it needs to be sanitized, sorry! I think the owner needs to talk to the staff about not acting like grumpy spoiled babies. We know you don't like tourists, but that's not something you share with your customers in a place of business that's your means of living out here. read more

We had looked forward to trying out this bakery but ended up a few minutes after 2 pm on Saturday. I don't understand why they close so early - why not at least 3 pm on a holiday weekend? Anyway, the young person who was standing at the espresso machine was willing to make espressos which we were looking for but a man (manager?/owner?) said, no, drip coffee only and baked goods from the case only to go. He seemed very offputting. The drip coffee was good and the baked goods were good but we left feeling not very welcome. I would go back but I think we were just left puzzled because on holiday weekends in a tourist town we thought they would want as much business as possible and that they would be happy to see tourists - there was a rodeo in town that had started at 1 pm. Decent breakfast. Few options for gf vegetarians. We had some sort of crustless quiche sort of things. It was good enough but I made a FAR better quiche myself a couple days ago so I was pretty underwhelmed. Had to put some hot sauce on it which isn't a good sign. Everything is pre-made so there's zero ability to customize anything you're ordering. Breakfast burrito in a bowl instead of tortilla? Nope! Cause it's all pre-made. There are only two choices for gluten free baked goods: a morning glory muffin and some kind of nut/seed/peanut butter bar. I had asked what they had for options and the gal at the counter was obviously clueless. She just pointed at the case. Um, I'm 4'10" and can hardly see whatever is in that case and some of the labels are blocked by others signs on the case. So that was annoying. They didn't even offer to warm the muffin. Both of those gf baked goods options were pretty tasty. But what I would give to walk into a place and see a gluten free cinnamon roll!! The very best part was the latte. Soooo good. Not overly sweet. Great temperature. Wonderful oatmilk. Definitely the best part of coming here was the latte. Four little crustless quiche things, 2 lattes, 1 muffin, 1 bar = over $50. Sheesh. This is the go-to bakery if your around the downtown area of Winthrop. The hours are kind of weird but it is worth the planing to go there. The bakery has it all. Panini's, cookies, pastries, coffee, soups and much more! We've been going here for 2+ years and we've never been disappointed by the food or service. Before heading out on the trails for some cross country skiing and snowshoeing, my husband and I decided to try this place out for simple coffee and something small to eat. They serve Lariat coffee and we both ordered drip - coffee was great - nice, strong and not bitter. I ordered the famed cinnamon roll - it was okay. I prefer my buns hot and the glaze melted/gooey but that was not the case. My husband ordered the chicken chili, but he would call it more of a soup rather than chili. He said it was seasoned well and the chicken to bean ratio was great. The only problem we had the two times we went there was the service. We had bought the methow trails pass and had thought the cashier would have given it us with our food but she didn't, we had to ask for it again. Then, we waited for over ten minutes for our quiche to warm up and watched as other customers who came after us, get their food and drink. My husband had to wait in line again to ask for the food he ordered so long ago and only got a "my bad" response. This place is convenient if you're looking for something small and quick to digest before some fun activities and the location is very central. Was I amazed by the food selection? Not really. Amazing food and fast service. My partner and I came here for lunch. We both got the meatball sandwich. They were yummy and so reasonably priced we couldn't believe it. Yelp didn't do us any favors with this one. The only reason why we came here for lunch were the yelp reviews. We were expecting them to be a cafe that actually served food. It isn't. They have prepared items in their case and that's it. The choice is underwhelming and the quality only ok considering the price. I wasn't impressed at all. I believe the coffee was decent although I can't remember much about it. It was from a local roaster though (maybe a semi-local roaster?) I would not recommend coming here for a meal. Located at one end of Winthrop strip, the place caught my attention for some fine coffee on a cold winter day. The decor has great taste, and adds character for both the store and the town of Winthrop. It uses a combination of art work and old cowboy gears, allowing patrons to look around while sipping a cup of coffee. I also like their coffee, whuch were flavorful and aromatic. My main dissatisfaction is on their food. We ordered the pizza and turkey sandwich, and they were mediocre. Great coffee shop in Winthrop. Thoughtfully decorated with vintage touches like old bikes hanging from the ceiling. Comfortable place to sit down and enjoy. Coffee was good we got cold brews with coconut milk. Very cheap for a coffe shop. The food was really good too, we tried bacon, egg & cheeses on biscuits. A bit pricey for the portion size, but with the coffee being very cheap it evens out. They had Malinda's spicy ketchup at the condiments bar, a huge plus no one ever has that, was very good on the sandwiches. We were in town the next morning and stopped back in and grabbed a sausage egg and cheese and a mixed berry scone to go. The scone was very good, ate it driving didn't even need to butter it. If you are staying or even just passing though Winthrop, I recommend you stopping in here. read more

I will give this place 5 stars because they are open and busy in Winthrop, Washington. Small town USA. I had a cinnamon roll, which was good, not amazing, but good. My wife had the vegetable quiche which she enjoyed. What I was most impressed with was the layout and decor of the place. Someone clearly put a lot of time and effort into product placement, picking out the items hanging from the ceilings/walls, seating layout, and the overall vibe. Covid time review: Even though it's one of the only coffee shops in Winthrop, Rocking Horse bakery always delivers. The staff are friendly, accommodating, and masked. The espresso drinks are consistently very good, and they have a assortment of goodies for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. This morning I had a tasty soy latte and veggie breakfast burrito with egg/onion/potato/veggies (prepared same-day and kept warm), and hubby had a French roast drip coffee and artichoke heart/roasted red pepper/feta quiche slice warmed up. Both little meals were ready quickly, really enjoyable, and totaled less than $20. We visit Rocking Horse every time we're in the Methow, and even when busy the staff get customers moving through quickly. I highly recommend a stop on your way to the Nordic or hiking trails for some caffeine and a breakfast burrito or breakfast sandwich (with egg and choice of bacon, sausage, or veggies nom), or for something sweet between meals. Take your order and hit the road or enjoy at a table--they have a couple large ones to accommodate larger parties. There is also outdoor seating in the back facing the Methow River :). Now that dine-in is reinstated, patrons are permitted to remove masks when seated and eating at indoor tables, and they are sanitizing tables between parties. They have a clear curtain at the order counter to protect the staff and patrons, and hand sanitizer is provided. While the drip coffee is self-service, customers are advised to hand sanitize prior to dispensing, which is sufficient for our comfort level. read more

A-OK Coffee & Pastry shop in Winthrop. The Coffee drinks here are pretty dang good and the chocolate banana bread is a great deal at $2 for a very moist tasty generous slice. Service is friendly just slow. Winthrop as a whole is on 'island time', I usually have a cup of joe at my rental before getting in a line here so it's not too painful to wait.
