Long story short -- Why 5 stars? Proximity to UCR, customer service, no wait (compared to Boiling Crab), and their seafood boil sauce! I don't know how this place could possibly have negative reviews. If you had a bad experience during the soft opening, I would definitely give this place another try because they have improved so much. They are now carrying crawfish (last time I checked it was only frozen), crab legs, and fried oysters! Their sauce cannot be compared to Boiling Crab because it's so unique! It's not oily from the melted butter, and it's not translucent / watery. In fact, it's very chunky and packed with tons of garlic - yum! So if you're not a fan of the chunkiness and spices, I wouldn't recommend the seafood boil with their house blend. Cajun fries are okay. Fried oysters are divine especially that dipping sauce! I am not reviewing the food as I am allergic to shrimp. This review is about their business practices. I stopped in to pick up a bag of shrimp for my daughter. I ordered, paid, and was handed a bag of shrimp and left. The entire process took less than 5 mins. As you can see in the photo's, Rockstar Shrimp took it upon themselves to add a $2 tip to my receipt after I signed it and left. Their policy states they will add an 18% gratuity to parties of 5 or more. I was a party of one who never even sat down. No where is disclosed that there would be and added 18% gratuity to stand at the counter and be handed a bag. This practice is illegal. *****update: the owner contacted me with a suitable explanation and a resolution. Went around 2pm on a Sunday and it was relatively crowded, but with only 2 people it was about a 10 second wait for a table. Prices were good, food was great. I ordered the "A 'Lil Bit of Everythang" combo with some potatoes it in with the seasoning with no spiciness and it was pretty good. The food is great, never a complaint there besides the $1 per fried oysters ): they are delicious, but the price is not worth the size and portion they serve. The 1 pound bag of seafood is great, and their delicious cajun fries are never a disappointment. They load the basket and overfill it to the point where fries are falling off. I love it. Because Riverside is a bit "far" from Boiling Crab and the Kickin' Crab, this place is as good as it gets when you're looking for a restaurant similar to the two. Service is great as well. Food is definitely bomb, it is a tad bit different from the Boiling/Kickin' Crab, but it still is delish. Shrimp is a whole lot bigger. I tried Rockstar Shrimp a few days ago and I was impressed. So I am a regular at this place and have been for the past 3 years and I can honestly say this places never misses UNTIL TONIGHT! When they brought me my order of snow crab legs, they were cold. The color was even different then it normally is, like I said I am a regular so I know exactly what to expect. What I really liked about this place was their combo option, a combination of shrimp, clams, and mussels with your choice of sauce for $11. Decent price. Some say portions are small but a pound is a pound, they can't change that. Combo option only seems less because the shells of the clams and mussels weigh more. The sauce was tasty, a good balance of garlic, lemon, butter, and a kick of spice. (I can't really taste the difference between this and boiling crab) Although I know this place will give you better service than BC for sure. I have nothing to complain about my experience here.
