Really expensive (therefore one less star) but very friendly, love to taste all the different, creative options, and incredibly intriguing flavors. You get such a tiny amount -we went to Goose Rocks Creamery the following night and got 3x the amount (really) for the same price. BUT - it is worth it at least once to experience the creativity of the ice cream chef. Strawberry habanero! Triple ginger! Avocado something or other! Olive oil and pine nut! Rococo was probably the most delicious and creative ice cream experience I will ever be a party to. I had a small, with Sunfish Wheat AIe & Candied Ginger & Apricots (Beer Ice Cream), and Spicy Rocky Road. With the sunfish, you got all the flavors and textures you would expect with candied bits and the beer ice cream itself was smooth and absolutely on point in terms of its flavor. The spicy rocky road had a really nice but not overwhelming warmth on the back end, that just sat beautifully at the back of my tongue. The servers were really welcoming and offered as many samples as I wanted, and also seemed knowledgeable generally about the business when I had a couple of questions. For anyone who visits Kennebunkport and enjoys new food experiences, or really just ice cream generally, should and needs to check out Rococo. It is really an artisan ice cream experience! read more

This was the most disgusting thing we have ever put in our mouths. The ice cream was hard and icy with an odd taste (both the whoopie pie and dark chocolate) and it was so awful that we threw it away. We should have known it was bad when they were chiseling the stuff with great effort to get it out. What a waste of $10. read more

Meh. The Honey Vanilla was good, but they have a very limited number of flavors and they're too funky .... avocado ice cream may be 'trendy' - but it just doesn't sound tasty (and I love avocados!). With blueberries in season there should have been some flavor with blueberries. And the chocolate cone want very flavorful - the ones from the grocery store have more chocolate flavor. Oh well. Our visit had mixed reviews...it's good. But the wife's sherbet was so so and the kids and mine were just good, no wow here. Thought it cost more then others on Main Street. I would say go to goose rocks ice cream or the other ice cream store across the bridge over by the gas station with the scooters for sale. read more

I don't really understand why this place has 5 star reviews. I guess that's if artisan just means pricey. I didn't find the ice cream that great at all. I got "whoopie pie" , there were barely any pieces of whoopie pie in it so it was basically just vanilla ice cream. My husband got coffee which didn't taste like coffee and the ice cream was so hard you had to bite into which also means it has the lowest fat content in it which I don't like. read more

This place is THE BEST. Such interesting flavors and they let you try as many as you want! My husband was so obsessed with their ice cream that I ordered a gift card for his stocking this year. The owner sent me a gift certificate in the mail which for some reason never arrived (until after Christmas!) so when I emailed her she was very pleasant and sent me a PDF via email! I love Rococo! I was able to go down the line and sample all of the fresh unique flavors. This is remarkable ice cream. The small batch flavors are very, very good. Specifically avocado cayenne is a wonderful pairing, Rococo is essential eating, that's all there is to it. Sorry but the ice cream was not that good. The salted cream was not distinct in terms of saltiness and its' consistency was just creamy--but less than should be expected. The orange water, sponge cake flavor missed the mark entirely. The cake pieces were frozen and offered an uncomfortable consistency. It did not crunch of soften--just unwelcoming. read more

Typically I like my desserts more traditional. I don't need a pastry chef to get all wild and crazy, burning the caramel or adding savory herbs to the chocolate. Just give me simple, well made desserts and I'm a happy camper! So when I walked into Rococo I was a bit apprehensive. (I mean does avocado really belong in ice cream?) The owner was so sweet and enthusiastic about her product, and after tasting a few of her flavors, she has every right to be enthusiastic and proud! Her fancy flavors won me over! Nutella and cranberry was delicious, although I settled on coffee ice cream and a dark chocolate ice cream. (I know, coffee and chocolate ice cream is not super fancy, but these where exceptional examples of those two standard flavors.) Great consistency and well developed flavors. I look forward to our next visit to Kennebunkport, and I can't wait to see what new flavors are in the Rococo freezer! read more

Picture this: we had just convinced our 13 year old not to go to Ben & Jerry's, telling him that on vacation we don't go for the same old same old, we look for the local one of a kind experience and all that. You can imagine how that went over with a 7th grader--he just thinks we're lame all the time--that's how a 13 year old thinks. And Ben & Jerry's suits him just fine. Well, we continued walking around picturesque Kennebunkport and stumbled upon this place with its cayenne pepper, curry, chipotle, chai cardamom wacky flavors and you can imagine our boy's attitude. Until he tasted some flavors and was blown away. Thank goodness he's a bit of a gourmand and will play along. He wound up getting caramel cinnamon. I got a chocolate piece of heaven called Spicy Road, and hubby got the Maine Whoopie PIe. All incredible and amazing. The owner really encouraged us to try the flavors, and as some reviewers noted, the goat cheese honey whiskey fig was also to die for. If you're looking for "normal" ice cream, there are plenty of places for that, but if you are looking for a truly memorable and unique experience, RUN to Rococo. Ah, unforgettable. read more
