Stopped by here and had a great experience. The Rude and Angry tacos absolutely live up to the name -- excellent spice, bold flavor, and a really solid balance of protein to toppings and sauce. Everything felt intentional and well put together. I didn't try the gelato this time, but saw a few tables order it and it looked very tempting -- definitely on the list for next visit. I didn't catch the name of the person at the register, but the staff were fantastic, friendly, attentive, and checking in with tables throughout the meal. Great service paired with great food. It's tucked a bit off the main road and down the alley, but absolutely worth seeking out. A solid spot I'll happily return to. read more

I stumbled upon this place on my way to the liquor store. I was in town for work so I was just looking to grab some drinks and food to take back to the hotel. After I grab the alcohol, I stopped in for some food. I really dig the place as it has that nice hole in the wall type of feel. The menu was also pretty interesting as you can mix and match a lot of combos. I was pretty hungry so I went with the burrito rude bull. I ordered the food to go and it only took about 5 minutes before it was ready. The cashier also gave me some coupons when she found out it's my first time visiting the place which is a very nice touch. Now the burrito was amazing! It was delicious, huge portioned and the fried cheese on the tortilla just took it to the next level. I'll definitely try to stop by next time I'm in town for the tacos. read more

ROCTACO is tucked away in an alley, so it's easy to miss, but this place is truly a hidden gem. I stopped by on my last day in SLC while traveling, but honestly I think if I'd found this place sooner, I definitely would've been back. I was a little skeptical about the unique flavor combinations at first, but they were all so spot-on. Every ingredient complemented the others perfectly. I ordered the Tikka, Uncle Al, and Chancho (raspberry carnitas), and they were all incredible. (The Chancho needs to be a permanent menu item!!! Please!!) Amazing taco shop down an alley in downtown slc. I had four tacos and they all hit. Very unique and flavors from around the world. The Al pastor was my favorite Mexican style I had. The chancho was a limited item and I think it needs to be permanently on the menu. Raspberry carnitas are two things I'd never think belong together but I've been mistaken in my logic. Ooof... really wanted to love this place but it just did not hit the spot for me. The concept of all these crazy mixes for tacos seemed great but I don't think they were fully executed for me. I think this placed was overhyped for me personally. They are a bit pricy for a single taco but I figured with all the interesting flavors it would be worth it but it wasn't. I think what I disliked the most about it was that all my tacos were COLD. So it just seemed like everything is prepped before hand not warmed at all and then they just put it all together. When there twice and both times was really good! We tried the burrito, it was huge, I think the flavor we got was Jimmy Churri with carne asada, and the cheese crust. The fish taco was good, I think maybe it was expensive for what it was. The nachos were pretty good, only thing was they got a little soggy for the amount of sauce but that's just personal preference. Place is tucked into a back alley downtown. Parking is tight, so be prepared to park & walk, rideshare, or parallel park close by. The restaurant was busy when we came with a line extending outside. Be sure to know your order before you get to the register. They will be kind & answer questions, but you will feel the pressure to keep the line moving. We ordered a holy kalbi taco, busan birria taco, Tikka taco, rude bull burrito, & a horchata shake. It was easy to find a table, but space is limited. The kitchen prepared our meals quickly. Just by the smell, I immediately knew I loved this place. Every bite was fresh & delicious. My husband couldn't finish his burrito it was so big. I, of course, finished all 3 tacos. I have been to roctaco multiple times and honestly the food is SO GOOD!! They have a bunch of really unique combination dishes. I normally get the tacos, but any of the flavors can be put into a bowl, burrito, nachos, or quesadilla as well. The flavors are so delicious and I love how they've combined them! I also have to shoot out the Pom guac. The pomegranate seeds add a sweetness and a crunch that I love! The vibe is fun and they always have good music playing. It's casual and laidback. The service is good but sometimes I feel like I am bothering the person that im ordering from. They have fountain soda here with a very good Diet Coke brew. Soft, flavorful but I wanted more contrast? My partner got the Funky Clucker, Amy Hates Fish, Holy Kalbi and Uncle Al. Funky Clucker is a play on chicken and waffles. Good but not my favorite. Amy Hates Fish was decent. I want more crisp on that fish. Holy Kalbi has an Asian profile but definitely not Korean. Uncle Al was good. More traditional but too sweet. We frequent Roctaco. My bf can't get enough of Amy Hates fish. My favorite is the Jimmy Churri. I also love the Asian flavors. I think they got rid of the taco with a fried egg and that breaks my heart, the K-pop. It's been missing from the menu the last few times we went/ordered. I've tried the nachos and burritos but I'd recommend sticking to the tacos so you can try a greater variety. We've never had anything bad here. The angry bird could use a bit more spicy IMO, but it's still lovely. read more

Not bad, my wife liked this place a lot more than me. Parking can be tough, but not impossible. The food is good, the burrito needs to be rolled a little tighter, but not bad. This place was the highlight of our time in Salt Lake City! I loved the urban decor and the giant octopus mural, and the service was amazing! I ordered the nachos with Funky Clucker flavor which included crispy fried chicken, churro bites, maple aioli, bacon and chipotle honey. The combo of the ingredients was so random and somehow worked SO WELL TOGETHER. Besides the churro bites I felt like those weren't adding anything but these were some of the best nachos I've ever had. I must confess that I'm a regular here who orders the same thing every time because that's how much I love it: the Rude Bull nachos. It's a guilty pleasure meal I get to treat myself when I'm having a rough day. I order them with extra chipotle sauce and lather them in Cholula because I take my spicy food verrrrry seriously. The space is casual, modern, and hip with unique seating and decor. It's very colorful and vibrant inside and has the nostalgic feel of a video game I played as a child. This place is a great little surprise. It's off the beaten path and I never would've known about it unless it had been recommended and so a friend and I went to lunch there. Not only is the food really delicious and the combinations well conceived but I watched one of their employees handle an Internet order gone bad with quite a lot of dexterity and good humor and it just felt nice to be in a place where I watched something that normally would go sideways and instead ended as well as it really possibly could have. The place was clean. The dishes were inventive. Staff was polite and they had this killer flambéed donut for dessert that really I highly recommend you try. Everyone absolutely raves about RocTaco, so I was excited to give it a try. Sadly, I don't think I'm their target audience. I am a pretty simple eater-I don't like a lot of sauces or unique ingredients. Give me shredded chicken or chunks of steak on a tortilla, and I'm happy. However, I can appreciate the art that this place brings. Their tacos are more than just a quick cuisine, they are culinary delicacies that diners with more distinguished palates than mine will surely enjoy. I'm sorry to say that Utah is not foodies paradise in any category, especially in "Mexican" food. Coming from Cali and being spoiled with flavorful Mexican, my expectations have been low here. Tried a few places including Red Iguana and a food truck/stand, still missing flavor. This is the first place I want to come back to again! It's a casual spot. The fish taco (sadly it's fried and no option for grilled), and chicken taco were amazing, especially the chicken. Each had the right amount of flavor and spice. The tortilla was so soft and tasted fresh, downside is it's so thin that I had to eat the chicken taco with a fork because the tortilla didn't stay together. I don't mind. I love the unique fusion tacos here! All the sauces and meats were amazing. My husband reported that the Jimmy Churri was one of the best tacos of his life! The K-Pop was my fave, especially the sauce. There's a lot going on with the ingredients, so be prepared to make a mess haha. The raspberry sauce was a highlight of Chancho, and the cheese crusted taco shell of Jimmy Churri was delicious and unique. When ordering, the staff were super nice, friendly, and explained where customizations were possible. We both despise onions, so we avoid when possible. The guac was onion-heavy so I wouldn't get that again, but YMMV. We picked off a lot of extra cilantro. The tortillas tasted fresh and I didn't care that the tacos fell apart- the ingredients just worked so well together. Great find! read more

We stopped by RocTaco on Saturday before the band Kansas played at the Eccles when our other dinner reservations fell through. Even showing up at 6 PM on Saturday, there wasn't much of a wait although it was busy. You order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. We started with the chips and queso, we wanted it as an appetizer but were told that it would come out with our food. As it was a little busy it took 15 minutes for our food to arrive. After about 10 minutes I did ask if they could give us our quaso prior to the food and they accommodated my request. The quaso was good, 4/5. We ordered 6 different tacos to get a feel for what they offer. Some were better than others. I loved all the different offerings and creative tacos, big plus for being creative. Jimmy Churri - I thought this one was really good and loved the Parmesan & Manchego Cheese Crusted tortilla. 4/5 Angry Bird - + Spicy Tinga Chicken, Corn Poblano Salsa, Creamy Tomatillo sauce, Queso Fresco, Fresh Cilantro, Handmade Yellow Corn Tortilla. This was my favorite taco. 5/5 Uncle Al - Has a mix of Chile Sauce, Poblano Salsa, Pineapple Mango Salsa, but I thought it all came together to taste of BBQ sauce and even though I usually love Al Pastor, this was my least favorite taco. 3/5 Rude Bull - Carne Asada, Avocado Crema, Pickled Red Onions, Chipotle Lime Sauce, Queso Fresco, Fresh Cilantro, Handmade Yellow Corn Tortilla. Really liked this one probably my second favorite. 5/5 Chanco - Carnitas taco, Citrus Raspberry Sauce. 4/5 There are other tacos on the menu that I would like to try, so I guess I'll have to go back. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience for a large corporate order. The order was late, which made coordination difficult for our staff. Additionally, none of the items were labeled, I had request in advance, making it very hard to tell which tacos and salads were which. With a big order and multiple dietary preferences, labeling is essential. Because of the delay and lack of organization, our corporate staff was left disappointed. Roc Taco is a real gem in the raw. It is located in an alley in downtown Salt Lake City. They can seat maybe 30 people. The site has brick on one wall corrigated metal on the other and an official: DIVE. The menu has great variety with world fillings for tacos. Music lightens up the space with 80 rap and hip hop. It has an edgy and young hip vibe. It is uber casual. We ordered the elote, Banh Mijo, The Royal, Uncle Al and Holly Kalbi tacos. The elote was terrible, overcooked corn, dry, hard and super salty. The tacos though exceeded expectations. The Royal was KC chicken in a BBQ sauce with fried onions and creamy slaw. FABULOUS and juicy! The Banh Mijo was asian carnitas with BBQ sauce, pickled veggies and jalapenos. Again, over-the-top flavor. The Uncle Al was el pastor carnitas with corn pablano salsa, pineapple salsa and caso fresco. Delicious does not even begin to explain it. The Holy Kalbi was Korean short rib, veggies and a sriracha dressing. Another Home Run! The tacos stole the show in this very simple establishment. The take away here is SIMPLE and DELICIOUS. There was enough variety, reasonably priced and good enough that I will be back. Great job, fun environment, over-the-top flavor, and edgy. I haven't been to roc taco for quite some time, so they had a couple new (to me tacos). I got the funky clucker and Amy hates fish. I did not realize how sweet the funky clucker would be, and the chicken seemed like it was fried a while ago. Not a fan. The fish one had a nice spice but again the fish did not seem freshly cooked.
