So Hubs and I decided to hit up the vintage street fair a couple weeks back and we were starving. Rodeo Coffee Shop had an open table so we figured we'd stop in. We expected it to be packed and huge wait but not even close. It was nothing out of the ordinary and honestly, it was so-so. I had the corned beef hash & eggs, hash browns, w/ toast and coffee. Eggs were scrambled (really dry), the hash browns were rushed, so almost burnt on outside, barely cooked on the inside, and the corned beef hash was barely warm, no crispness to it. Hubs ordered the chicken-fried steak, which he said was "okay" nothing really notable about the flavor - he scraped a lot of the gravy off. He said it didn't have much flavor but was passable (for me, bacon gravy rarely has much flavor - but I'm a sausage gravy kinda girl). We also ordered a side of bacon, extra crispy - and that was done well, so points for that, for sure. Overall, pretty nondescript and would do in a pinch if I had to, but there are a lot of options out there to compete with. If I go back, I'd go w/bacon & eggs and - yeah, not sure about the hash browns. Those were disappointing. That being said, I wouldn't make a trip to old-town Clovis with that destination in mind, but if I was there for something already, then maybe it would be a consideration. read more

This is the 3 time we've been here. 1st time food and service was great. 2nd time the waitress forgot about us, we waited for about 15 min before anyone even noticed we were outside. 3rd and last time we had to ask another waitress if our waitress was coming back because it seemed like again nobody acknowledged we were outside even after my husband went inside to let them know we were here. It was late in the morning and the restaurant wasn't packed so there was really no excuse as to why we couldn't be served in a timely manner. The customer service was pleasant and greeted with smiles. I ordered the combo eggs, bacon, sausage with potatoes, toast. The food was delicious, the egg was cooked well and still had the yolk. I enjoyed the bacon, it was cooked to perfection. The other order was biscuits and gravely and a plate of hash browns with bacon and sausage and eggs. Everything was great and so was the coffee, I typically don't like the roast and most breakfast shops but this places coffee was pretty good. read more

The Rodeo Coffee shop was our first dine-in experience since the Covid shut down. We went in an hour before they close on a Saturday, which was about 1pm. Thankfully, it was not busy, we were the second group there which meant plenty of distancing in between and it stayed that way throughout our meal. I think only one more party dined in. We were all satisfied with our meals. We ordered typical diner lunches: the rodeo burger, tuna melt, and a grilled ham & cheese sandwich. Everything tasted good. Fries were not greasy, half sandwich options are available, and plenty of side options. Unfortunately, our waitress, although she was nice, was very forgetful. She forgot our plate settings and we had to remind her. She forgot our full order of drinks and we needed to remind her about napkins as well. We also had to remind her about our to go order. We weren't sure why she was so forgetful as the place was not busy at all. Overall, this is a cute spot to catch breakfast or lunch in old town. We would come back and give it another try. read more

So we all know the very noticeable vibes this place gives off, the service here is usually not that great but we come because we do like the food here so we try to ignore the racy vibes and all the pro trump gear this place sells and Most times we come its not that busy which is why the service is usually ok but we came on a busy day and we know how hectic it gets but true colors showed when we were seated, we waited for more than 30 mins for them to just take our order while we watched 4 other groups get seated after us and had their orders takin first, we finally got our order taken then waited another 35-40 min before we got out food, again while watching everyone who came after us get their food first. All four tables who were seated after us left before we even began to eat our meal, and yes I could've just left but I was with my family and wasn't trying to cause a seen with how upset I was, I tried to shrug it off but when everyone who was served before you when they came way after you was all white it's pretty clear the message they send And I know I should expect this kind of behavior already but wow actually having to experience it is another thing. So if you're a person of color I really don't recommend coming here. read more

We just decided on a whim to eat breakfast here yesterday. Omgoodness!!! Sooo good. Staff was friendly and busy as can be. The food was DELICIOUS and portions where huge! Two words, RACIST environment. My "Asian" family and I went to get breakfast on a Sunday morning. Right when we opened the door, everyone (waitress/bus boys/customers sitting and standing) ALL stared. We immediately felt the awkwardness and tension that we shouldn't have been in there. The waitress sat us down, ignored us for several minutes.. didn't even give us menu to look at! She took orders from two other individual customers who got seated AFTER us! As I looked through the menu, I didn't see Egg Benedict... what kind of restaurant that serves breakfast doesn't serve Egg Benedict! Not impressed at all... All of us ended up ordering omelets - they are descent, but only because they were smothered with American cheese. Who doesn't like American cheese?! That tells you that the owner and/or the chefs are not very creative. Throughout the hour that we were there, we felt uncomfortable, anxious, and weren't able to enjoy family time together. I've been in Clovis for a year now and I had always wanted to go here. One Sunday I took my boyfriend down there and prayed to God that it was going to be good (because I hate most breakfast places because they don't do it like mom does). I walk in and it is total 70's diner decor with the low food counter/bar and cozy ugly redish colored booths. We had to wait a few minutes because the place was packed with early AM guests. We opened up the menu and were pleasantly surprised with multiple options of vegetarian items, omelettes, pancakes, french toast, and any breakfast item that you can think of! :) My boyfriend ordered the Denver omelette which was fantastic and came with home fries or hash browns, sausage or bacon, and either a piece of toast, english muffin, or biscuit and gravy (All for around $9.45). I ordered one of the numbered breakfasts that came with 3 dollar sized pancakes, eggs, and a choice of sausage or bacon (Around $8.00). The meal was fantastic, the coffee was constantly passed around, and it was a place that time warped me back to when my parents were my age. I 100% recommend this place for breakfast and I plan on going in for lunch soon! read more

I took the family here on a Saturday afternoon and won't be going back anytime soon. No need to go here when Sandy's is just a few hundred feet away. The difference between Sandy's and this place is service... service... service. When we arrived the tables were full, no problem we'll stand and wait.... but no one greeted us, no smiles, no waves, nada. Staff would walk right past us, it was amazing. Ok so we wait for the first table to clear and still no one waves us over. We're standing inside the doorway waiting.... the table is cleared and nothing. Finally I get a head nod and we sit. We look over the menu and wait for staff to take our drink order... and we wait... and wait... and finally we get some attention.. and drinks... and we wait... and we wait... you get the picture. Absolutely zero customer service and unfriendly. Needless to say we did not feel appreciated or welcomed. FInally our food came, we ate it... and left as soon as possible. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine, tasted good but come on we did not feel welcome one little bit. Someone in another review mentioned how tips work and schooled us about the 16% rule yada yada.... well there is another side of the tip rule and that involves service. I reached into my pocket and left .36 cents in miscellaneous change I had in my pocket and lint. I didn't want them to think we forgot about tipping them, we didn't. They earned that .36 cents and lint. Guys in the back... sorry but your wait staff is letting you down out front. Someone needs to talk to them if you share tips. read more

An easy 5 stars, if not for the wait time (pretty long but we expected this after seeing other reviews) and I suppose the prices can be considered high for breakfast. That being said, it seems to be for good reason. This is my favorite breakfast place in the Fresno/Clovis area. It's classic diner, a bit cheesy but it works well. The food that's brought out is exactly what you would expect from an old school joint like this. Portions are plentiful and you can easily share a plate between two people. Whatever you get make sure to include the house potatoes. They're chunky cut and then steamed or baked and finished off in a pan making them all crispy. Bacon is thick cut and crispy just how I like it. The one thing they need to improve here is service time. They can be very slow and if you have small children that can mean trouble. read more

I fully expected a wait given it being an event weekend. Arriving at 8:45, I did not expect to wait 15 minutes to even see our waitress, water to take 10 minutes then a FIFTY MINUTE wait, after ordering, for two breakfasts. This was still excusable except that those seated AFTER us, whose order was also placed after ours, received their food first. I asked our waitress, to please check on our order - it was still another 10 minutes or so before we received it. After such a long wait, I was very hungry, admittedly probably hangry, looking forward to my chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and a biscuit with gravy. I was very disappointed that my food was not hot. The potatoes, eggs and chicken fried steak were all lukewarm, at best. And the gravy was bland and flavorless. I added a ton of pepper but it wasn't worth the wait. I did let the waitress know, quietly, that the kitchen obviously had their ovens way too hot - the biscuit was burned on the bottom but still doughy and uncooked in the center. I've eaten here before, and had an OK experience, nothing amazing, but this really turns me off and I will probably go elsewhere from now on. read more

The little things go a long way here. While it is true that it is "very hard to screw up breakfast", The Rodeo serves as an exception to the rule that there is a ceiling on how good "breakfast at a coffee shop" can be. Some examples of the little things: (1) A strong cup of coffee, as opposed to the thin stuff served everywhere else. (2) Thickest, fluffiest, most flavorful biscuits you can ever remember eating. (3) Homemade (not packaged) hash browns and home fries. (4) Very eggy and highly textured french toast. (5) Perfectly executed pancakes (the kind that are slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside). The downsides are that the OJ and Lemonade aren't fresh squeezed, the jams and jellies aren't homemade, the maple syrup is the processed stuff, and the staff can be a bit spare in the midst of a morning rush. But this place will stick to your ribs in every way a breakfast place should. Overall, a considerably above average and authentic local breakfast option in the heart of Old Town Clovis. I really love this place...have been going for about 10 years or so. Whenever I come visit my Grandmother, I come here. The food is rich, as in...don't come here if you are trying to go on a diet! My favorite dish is the country fried steak (which I usually get) and it comes with heaps of potatoes. My cup of coffee usually stays full. The only thing that keeps this review from being 5 stars is the timing of some minor things: mainly getting seated, and getting the check. The latter has taken up to 10 minutes at times, before I just went up to the counter and stood there, trying to establish eye contact! Ha! It worked. Love this place though, even if I do have to wait to pay sometimes! The waitress and cashier are one person, so at times it gets a bit busy I suppose. This was our first visit...and sadly our last. The food was nothing special. We can get better quality and much better service at quite a few nearby restaurants. We'd heard that the food was good. Unfortunately, on our visit we found that what it lacked in flavor it more than made up for in grease. My husband loves hash browns and he took a couple of bites and left them. I will say that he enjoyed the corned beef because it was crispy. I ate because I was very hungry that morning but was regretting it within a short while as it didn't sit well at all. Even trying to pay was a lesson in patience. The waitress made us wait until She was good and ready... and we were beyond frustrated. Watching her as she stopped at practically every table made me pretty sure that she was knew exactly what she was doing. She had Plenty of time to take care of us but decided to stop, chit chat with customers and then just Stand by the kitchen/food counter-with our card in her hands for a while!
