    Chicken Breast platter
    Karina M.

Absolutely love this place! it's definitely one of my favorite food spots in Playa Vista. They validate parking in the structure, unlike the place next door, which only claims to validate parking, so you can be in and out quickly if you're picking up food to go. They have a Chipotle style set up but that doesn't mean the service isn't stellar. They'll let you try meats and items on the protein list and help you build out your order. I've gotten the chicken breast platter on every visit, but I've sampled the fried falafel and it's delicious. All the veggies have always been really fresh and delicious. The turmeric rice is just delicious and the meat quality is amazing. I'm personally really picky about meat, but it's always been top quality--no gross or dark meat pieces in the chicken breast and they make it fresh to order. The desserts are also incredible! I've tried the baklava cheesecake and salted caramel butterscotch cheesecake and both were absolutely amazing if you're a baklava fan! Highly recommend this spot!

I was a regular patron to the NoHo location until I moved out of the area. I absolutely loved it and always raved to all my friends about it. When I found out that the Playa location was conveniently in an area I frequent, I was excited to get it again. The only positives to the Playa locale is that the honey custard cake is amazing and that the Big Fat Pitas are still oversized goodness. The park fries ended up soggy from the condensation in the bag. Granted, the fries were still warm, but that packaging is not conducive to ANY level of fry-happiness. The chicken shawarma bowl was beyond a let down. The majority of it was dark meat, and it was so dried out. There was absolutely no seasoning or flavor to the chicken. It tasted like it had been roasted bare and sitting in a warming tray for a couple days exposed to the direct summer sun. You know that scene in Christmas Vacation where they're sitting around the dinner table and trying to chew through the turkey? Ya, it was that dry. The rice was okay. The tzatziki sauce was a bit scary, too. In the little to-go containers, the sauce had an uncanny amount of water separation happening in it. Like, there's a normal type of separation that can happen (proteins in the dairy, etc), but this wasn't right. Even after stirring it up a bit, it had a slimy goop consistency. Flavor-wise? I took a bite with the chicken and didn't bother with the rest. The big fat gyro pita was okay. All the sauce was just on the ends, but the pita bread was soft and there was a lot of meat. Overall, I was full from the meal (of what I did finish eating) but extremely disappointed in it. I won't go back. In terms of parking, I can see it being tricky when school is in session (I went on a Saturday). I parked in the 10 minute drop off zone outside on Shared Dr. Not knowing the area, I wandered through the parking structure following the signs for the food. There is a visitors entrance into the parking structure off of S Center Campus Dr (I discovered as I drove away).

The leftovers since no one liked the Baklava Cheesecake
    Alex B.

The baklava cheesecake sounds like such a good idea, but it doesn't taste good at all and costs $70. Between six people, we couldn't even finish a single slice because it tastes like piles of cinnamon. The cheesecake part is decent but it's drowned out by all the cinnamon. The baklava part is inedible. I wish these cakes had return policies.

    Big Fat Pita with Falafel.

Finally tried this place for lunch today and WOW was I pleasantly surprised. I never thought Greek place in a Hipster office park would be so good. I had the Big Fat Pita with Falafel today. The falafels were made to order which is a must in my opinion. All of the fillings were very fresh and crisp. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back.

Place in like and hidden but if you find it you'll be grub n! Food is great but wish my plates had more meat. I think the owner did come by and hook me up with more on da house. Friendly and attentive staff. Will return asap and get a side of meat with my order next time. They validate too so don't forget.

Delicious! Finally a place close by where we can get a Gyro without having to have an entire restaurant experience, or just get it to go.

I thought maybe they had some kinks to work out and finally decided our 10 year anniversary is going to be a special dinner here. Best of all they have a pet friendly patio so our mini golden doodle joined us and loved all the attention she got.. Ambience: the interior is gorgeous and the exterior is so cozy and green. Five star. Food: I'm not sure why there are patrons who don't seem to like the food, but we absolutely loved it. It's Mediterranean - Turkish, Greek and Lebanese. We did the tasting menu which was so reasonably priced & had plenty of food for both of us to feel full. The lamb was absolutely to die for. I could eat 10 chops myself. We also tried the beet salad, hummus, meatballs, salmon and Brussels sprout. I enjoyed everything. Service: our server Alex was fantastic. He gave us the perfect amount of attention without being intrusive, check on us regularly and made our special day extra nice. My most important quality for a good restaurant is good management and their manager. Alejandro was amazing. The entire staff made sure to wish us a happy anniversary, made us feel extra special and appreciated. Alejandro went above and beyond. Not only did he have the best personality, he made sure we had the best possible experience and we did! We've already told so many of our friends about it and I'm not sure if it's because of the location that people aren't aware of it, but I'll be telling everyone about my experience. The one thing I should mention is since the restaurant is part of the hotel (The Shay) they have valet parking and no validation. If you're like me and hate valet, there are plenty of street parking if you're willing to walk 5 - 7 minutes. Otherwise, you can park at the Ivy station lot but you'll have to get a validation at one of their stores (2 hrs). Taking the metro is also super convenient as it stops right next to the hotel. Oh, and after dinner, you should head upstairs to the rooftop bar and grab a drink and enjoy the beautiful view. I'm sure you can tell by reading my review that I love this place and looking forward to going back again soon. Thank you for making our special day even more special.

It was a packed house on a Friday night and you can feel just how festive the place is as people know they are in for a special Greek meal! Tonight I had an Arnold Palmer, the Lemon Chicken soup and Lamb Chops with French Fries. Everything was excellent as always. I sat at the bar and our server was excellent as he double-tasked making drinks and all to happy to serve our dinner. This is the secret weapon of Taverna, the help is friendly and eager to please! I didn't realize it has been a year since my last visit, but the food and friendliness is missed, and I'll be back again for the best in Greek on the Westside! The diversity of patrons be it dinner for two, four, six or more, a girl's night out, two guys having dinner or even a more larger party, Taverna delivers on food, location, atmosphere and service. I still remember trying Atherina (fried smelts) for the first time. I couldn't believe how much I liked them and ever since then, this spot has been a staple for me and my partner. Yes, this is a long overdue review;) My absolute favorite dish is the Kotopoulo (grilled chicken with Greek potatoes in lemon and herb sauce) - 5/5 The chicken is always juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, and those potatoes are the perfect pairing, zesty, herby, and comforting. It's the dish I always look forward to. Other favorites worth mentioning: Paidakia (char-grilled lamb chops) - 5/5 Phenomenal and full of flavor. Hitapodi (char-grilled octopus with AC vinaigrette, oregano & fava purée) -4/5 Perfectly prepared and very tasty. Taverna (bean purée with yellow split pea, olive oil, spices & tahini) - 4/5 A smooth, flavorful starter. Pita wrap - 3/5 Decent, but not as memorable as the other dishes. Their salads are also excellent. I rotate between the Sparta, Horiatiki, and Mikonos (my personal favorite for the arugula). For drinks, the hibiscus margarita is always my go-to. If you're into mules, the Mikonos Mule is unique, but fair warning, it has a strong black licorice taste that not everyone will enjoy. Two years ago we celebrated my girlfriend's mother's birthday here, and once again, the food and service were excellent. Jessica, who often takes care of us, is one of the best, always upbeat, kind, and full of positive energy. She makes every visit feel special. The vibe is casual and lively, with open seating, TVs showing sports, and a full bar. On weekends, they offer brunch and a Sunday barbecue on the patio, which my partner swears is great (still on my list to try). Mar Vista Tavern is truly a neighborhood gem. You'll see families, friends, and locals gathering here, and the vibe is always welcoming. Great food, top-notch service, and a place that keeps us coming back.
