I'm sorry to say, this place is a hole in the wall but not in a good way. It says Rincon de Guanajuato. I was thinking this was going to be a Mexican gto spot. It is not. Inside there is a sign that they also serve (flag) and (flag) food. Two other Latin American countries and let me tell you...that's why this place is only so-so. Focus on the nitty gritty gto style food because right now it's all basic. I knew when I saw the menus that this place had potential but no. What an incredible hidden gem! We stopped in on a whim and ordered the pupusas and they were absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, with gooey, flavorful fillings inside and the freshest curtido on the side. Truly some of the best pupusas we've ever had you can taste the authenticity and care in every bite. Their salsas were some of the best I've ever had, bright, balanced, and full of flavor. They also make fresh natural juices right on the spot, which was such a refreshing surprise. It's definitely a Spanish-speaking-preferred spot, and even though we don't speak Spanish, everyone was so kind and patient that it was easy to get around. The warmth of the people matches the quality of the food. Even our toddler couldn't get enough and devoured the pupusas! We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. read more

Tried this place on a Friday during Lent because they had fried fish. So we get here and should have know by the way the place looked and the signage, that it was not going to be good. We bought a Mojarra and green enchiladas. Both were bad. The enchiladas had no real sauce and did not taste good at all. The rice was bland and not tasty or real any real flavor. The fish was fried alright. It was over done and really dry. Not even putting sauce on it helped. The food is poor quality. Ordered four plates and didn't look and taste fresh. Most likely heated from the day before or two. This was my first time here but will be my last. Also found a hair in one of our drinks. Told the waitress about it and asked her that I wanted another one. I did not at anytime say that I wanted it replaced or taken off my bill. I simply said I want another one and she took it back almost full. When she came out she told me that the staff in the back didn't find hair lol. Who does that. What's the point. Just get another one and move on. Anyway I got up to pay because all food was honestly bad and couldn't continue eating it. The guy at the counter had an attitude. Maybe the manager or owner. I've been eyeing this place for a while now since I drive by it everytime I get my paleta fix in the same plaza. Little did I know, they have what we've been hunting for: quesdilla huitlacoche! Ordered: -papusa mixto 4.0 stars -al pastor burrito 3.5 stars AND -quesadilla huitlacoche 4.5 stars!! Lets just skip to the good parts. I put in an order to-go on these and 15 mins later they were done. I got home and we dove into the huitlacoche. For anyone who doesn't know about huitlacoche, please allow me to edumacate. It's a mushroom that grows on corn. I know, weird right? I only just heard about these things a couple of months ago and have been hell bent on finding restaurants in my area that serves these. When cooked right, they are tender, extremely flavorful, and similar but also unlike any other fungus family you'll ever eat. Please look at my pictures, you will at first shudder in disgust, because of the black coloring, but color is only skin deep. The way this restaurant makes this little spore is pretty darn good, plus they are generous with the huitlacoche. The papusa is also pretty good. It is greasy as hell, just the way we like it. The mixto has chicharron, beans, and cheese and goes well with all the salsa and cabbage that was included. The burrito al pastor was the only disappointing item. It just tasted ok since it seemed like they were missing something. Overall, this place is really good and I would totally go back just for the papusa and huitlacoche alone. Plus, they include chips and the salsa is very good! If we were eating in, the salsa would be endless! read more

My first time ordering from there a little disappointed they got my order wrong. On the receipt it was correct when I got home was wrong. Quesadilla was al pastor my pupusa was wrong I order chicharrón and they made it Al pastor. Did not taste like pupusa with the chunks of Al pastor meat. It tastes like a gordita Al pastor. This is my fathers favorite and its just good old fashioned handmade Mexican food. The only thing is they can run weak on the salsa. They can certainly make chiles toriados. Love all their breakfast dishes. Absolutely estatic they offer Huilachotche. Parking is bad as it is busy shopping center. I highly recommend this mom and pop operation. Masa Alert: Heavy lime content (Feb. 2023). I love this little place and the people. It's not fancy, but the atmosphere is bright and cheery, which in itself, is worth a huge amount. You can go just to have a beverage or snack, and no one will rush you back out the door. The unhurried, gracious, and mild-mannered host is a hallmark of Sonoran life. That's why I hope that this food review won't turn people away. The problem is with only one part of the food, which was a take-out order. There was so much chemical lime added to the corn masa that I had to throw away the corn chips and Enchiladas Verdes ($9.99). When things are deep-fried, the lime that has been used by the manufacturer while processing the corn into flour gets absorbed by the frying oil and stays there. That's why the wonderfully-thin plain chips taken home were too peppery to eat. I had thought, at my first eat-in visit, that all of the heat was from the delicious salsa, but it was not. There were good chunks of meat in the two enchiladas, a light portion of finely-made green sauce (very flavorful) and yet, everything that I tasted was overpowered by the chemical lime used in preparing the corn flour. In my experience, this does happen in a few cases, but is pretty rare in the area of Arizona-Sonora where I spent over 20 years. I'd recommend getting only wheat-flour products. Even the steamed corn tortillas had to be tossed--and they were beautifully hand made. 'Still enjoyed the ambiance and the amiable diners, most of whom were Mexican or Hispanic. It's a good place to get away from a busy schedule. If you don't happen to speak any Spanish, you can point to the photo on a nice-sized, ring-bound menu. There are no longer photos up on the wall near the register. It looks better without them. I was unable to review the Spanish Fried Rice because of a rare allergy. The refried pinto beans were very good, served thin as in Puerto Peñasco. They'd go well with wheat-flour tortillas. Wishing you great experiences! Thanks for reading. read more

Más tarde en el plato de mi amiga ella encontró una Tijerilla en sus chilaquiles llamamos a la mesera para contarle lo que está pasando a lo que ella trajo el dueño y el Lo negó todo empezó a decir que qué casualidad ya íbamos como a la mitad del plato y que él no tiene según el animales en su cocina. Luego empezó a levantarme falsos comentarios confundiéndome con alguien más diciendo que yo era una cliente que ya se había quejado antes sobre unos camarones crudos. Menudo was the best thing we ordered on this visit. Neither the soup or the inards were greasy like some other ones I had. We tried both botht the chicken and steak gorditas but we were not impressed with either one. The more popular steak version I found the meat to me really tough to chew on even though it was diced to smaller pieces. Pupasas was pretty good for what it was according to my colleague who ordered it, but I thought it was just okay. Will keep looking for other places to try. read more

3rd time here and once again it never disappoints! The chips and salsa are addicting. I love that their salsa for the chips is tomato based with a small kick. I had their enchiladas verdes with rice and beans. My boyfriend had the chorizo con huevo platter. First of all, the enchiladas were delicious but definitely different. I could taste oregano, tomatillo and it wasn't spicy, which in my opinion, i didn't mind! It just caught me off-guard. The chorizo con huevo tasted like the ones my dad makes using chorizo seco (aged air dried chorizo). YUM. The beans and rice are always a deal breaker for me, it's the staple in any dish and tastes just like home! Beans aren't greasy and i'm sure they use Peruvian beans which is much more buttery, the rice is also very delicious. Tortillas hecha de Mano (handmade tortillas) are airy. You know it's a good tortilla when you can open the tortilla open like a pocket! Prices are ALWAYS reasonable. We payed $19-20 (No drinks). So far this is my go-to Mexican restaurant. read more

The food was horrible and the service was bad. Don't order the pork, and I'm avoiding this place from now on. They may have stolen the salsa recipe from their next door.... My meat was so dry and unflavored that it tasted like chewing wood, and then the sauce was so oversalted that you couldn't enjoy that. Horrible. Then the waitress asked how it was, listened, just nodded, and did nothing. When i went to pay, i had to remind her 3x that the food wasn't edible and to not charge for it. Tried it, we ordered two pupusas one chicharron and cheese the other ourse cheese. My spouse liked them he said they weren't thick at all and tasted good. They do pack up your order already with all the salsas and utensils so thats cool. I ordered two gorditas after seeing the reviews and pictures my mouth watered. One carne asada and one chorizo. They looked yummy and full of deliciousness the chorizo one was my favorite it hit the spot the carne asada one was lacking flavor (the meat) it was ok. I use to go to el habanero which is literally a few doors down but I tried this place out and it's so much better from the service to the food ! I got a pupusa a taco and a side of rice !
