This is the best Mexican restaurant in San Marcos. Their tortilla soup is killer, and so are their enchiladas or orange juice they make fresh. They also make some American dishes. COVID-19 forced them to replace the fresh squeezed with the normal bottled; I hope they'll bring it back soon. The bathrooms are small but useable. It's a little out of the way especially for those who don't understand San Marcos roads (be careful out there), but the servers are very friendly and it's totally worth it for the experience. I ordered the burrito. The chicken tasted like it was out of a bag or can. The "queso" topping the item was merely watered down velveeta cheese. The best tasting item on the place was the rice. Not restaurant quality food. I went another time and ordered the enchilada special. The waitress came back ten minutes later and told me the kitchen had forgot to make my order and it would be an additional ten minutes. The first time I went I had a dish that consisted of fake crab meat wrapped in a tortilla with white velveeta cheese on it. It was not very good. Garcia's is a much better restaurant. This one is, in my opinion, the worst in central Texas. The prices are moderate. The radio was on the entire time tuned to a station that did not come in clearly. So static and occasional music was playing. That tells me that the manager is incompetent to create a relaxing environment. read more

I have only went here once, but that was enough. We were one of two tables in the restaurant, but our meal took 40 minutes to arrive. Apparently my chicken had been cooking for all of the 40 minutes, as it was leather. The food we got was pretty horrible, and it cost us $18. $18 is a decent price for good food...but this was not good food. read more

Great service! Our waitress was patient with us while we tried to understand some items on the menu. Food was delicious. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Really impressed with this place. We ate breakfast there, and everything we ordered was great. I don't remember the dish name that I got but it had eggs with a green sauce and queso. The menudo taste awful like a dog food , I think it was old and all the meat are very tender almost like a pureed meat , think been heat up a lot of times and the soup was like water and check this out if you asked for cilantro they charge you extra . Cilantro should come with it anyways. For a small bowl of menudo with cilantro was almost 7. 00 dollars . We initially drove pass this place and didn't stop because it looked like a hole in the wall, but when our first choice was too crowded we decided to give this place a shot and came back. It was amazing! The chips and salsa was awesome. So much so that even though the salsa was extremely hot, we couldn't stop eating it! The fajita was the best I have ever tasted. My husband and I love this place. I grew up in San Marcos and we were always a Herbert's family, now, we only visit there when family is in town because we much prefer Rogelio's. Having moved into the neighborhood August 2008, I was excited to be within one city block to Rogelio's. Expecting to make this a regular eating spot in the family's rotation of eating spots I always was friendly and tipped well beyond the 20%. However, after eating here consistently for several months I noticed a marked decline in the food and service quality and a marked increase in pricing. As for the food quality: barely heated through cheese enchiladas, overly greasy taco meat, yesterday's refried beans. As for the service: waiting over 10 minutes when the place is practically empty for our drink order to be taken, overcharging for food, forgotten refills. I will never go back to Rogelio's. I recommend Los Vega for breakfast. read more

Our experience at this restaurant was the worst. To begin. With the waitress Miriam was very rude and unprefessional. Ordered a fajita quesadilla and gave me a tortilla with meat in one corner. Then we asked if that's the way it came and he said yes so we said we didn't want it and they still charged us the whole meal. Then we try to explain to the manager the situation and the waitress butted in and started yelling and cursing at us and telling us to get the fuck out. I enjoyed chorizo, egg, potato, and cheese tacos. They were fantastic. I also tried some pancakes, which were excellent. They were also making fresh squeezed orange juice on site. It is a true local place and only a few blocks off the main highway. The staff was friendly and service was great. Family of three ate for $21 plus tip.
