Never, I repeat, never order the squash casserole from here. I cannot stress this enough. It tastes like moldy, worm-infested onions mixed with rotting roadkill that has been festering on the side of a lonely desert road in Arizona for weeks. I've been eating at Roger's for 12 years whenever I'm in Florence. I just finished having lunch there. It was the best. Everything was very fresh. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection - HOT & Crisp on the outside, moist and tender inside. I'm usually not a big fan of fried chicken, but I had to go back for 2nds. I was not raised in the south or on it cuisine, but the pulled pork seemed ok. The fried chicked is good, but normally all the good pieces are gone when they bring them out, so chances of getting them are slim. The macaroni and cheese is great most of the time, it has the right amount of cheese and pasta. Leaves you going up to the buffet just for that. Very disappointed that only water and sweet tea are readily available. You have to pay extra for a soda. The restuarant is not open monday through friday at regular times either read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat! They are only open Thursday-Sunday. But that is how most of the good BBQ places are down in the south. The BBQ chicken is my favorite, but I cannot forget the mac and cheese and sweet potato souffle, to die for! I've eaten there for good eating in the past, but the last couple of times some of the things were too salty Today the pulled pork too salty. Oysters don't need more salt. Chicken bog and liver hash was too salty. Cat fish too salty. BUT- Chicken dumplings, fried and BBQ chicken, quash casserole, sweet potato casserole, cabbage, hush puppies, sweet tea, and biscuits were good. read more

We made the drive down from Jersey City, NJ to Orlando, FL on 95. We were determined to try authentic Southern BBQ. After a short search on-line, we found Roger's... and I am thrilled we did! We got there just after they opened, and there was already a crowd. Roger's is a buffet styled restaurant with take-out as an option. Since we were driving through... we ate in. Sweet tea and/or Iced tea come in pitchers with your meal... but soda is extra (one aspect that this girl from the North adored)! The buffet was small, but memorable! It had several different types of BBQ. Most with a light vinegar based sauce that seems to be indigenous to South Carolina. They also had ribs with a thicker, sweeter sauce and meat that fell off the bone. They had fried chicken that was cooked to perfection... but lacked a bit in flavor. There were lots of sides, my favorite being the fried okra. So, it's not a health food restaurant. But for BBQ, it's top notch! read more

I moved away 5 years ago and while away I always talked about how good this place was. I finally moved back down to Florence and made a point to visit Rogers again. I am sad to say I was very disappointed. I don't know if it has new owners now or what but the food went downhill. The pulled pork was cut so small that it was mush. The biscuits were like cardboard. The mac n cheese had a thick top layer of cheese but just butter and greasy around the noodles. So disappointing. read more

If you're looking for BBQ ribs, pulled pork or brisket sandwiches, this is not the place. We're new to the area and we visited on a Sunday afternoon not realizing it was a buffet rather than an actual BBQ restaurant. There was one slightly spicy BBQ meat dish on the buffet swimming in sauce. The rest of the buffet items were fried chicken, green beans, etc. We've since found out that they are known for their macaroni and cheese and sweet potato souffle, but we didn't think either were especially good. If you like all you can eat southern cooking, it's probably worth trying. read more

Some people have said that it's the best that Florence has to offer. That says a lot about Florence. The Mac & Cheese was the best on the menu. I did like that. The pulled pork was not as good as any others I've had in this town. Hard to describe the taste-too much HARD vinegar? The stuffed crab cake was cooked too long, nearly hard and blackened surface. The ribs were low quality, not much meat, although tasty. The fish was cool, dry and bland. The price of $10 per plate was very reasonable, but indicative of what you're really getting. Excellent food. Friendly staff. On Sundays, the dressing and yellow gravy is the bomb. The ribs are great.

About once a month we go to Roger's for the best bbq in our little town of Florence SC. Downhome Southern cooking at it's best; the bbq itself is pulled pork w/o sauce (do it yourself to your taste). Yes, it is vinegar-based which is sometimes unsual to those from out-of-state, but travellers, go with an open mind and give it a try. Not to your taste? Bet you'll like the fried chicken or fish-fry. Sides are classic Southern: green beans, hush puppies, slaw, dirty rice, etc. The sweet potato casserole with the crunchy pecans on top belongs on the dessert bar; other desserts include classic banana pudding & do it yourself strawberry shortcake. Sweet tea finishes off the perfect comfort food lunch or dinner. Check for hours before you go so you're not dissappointed! Like many family owned places in Florence, Roger's is not open every day. read more

This place absolutely is a huge disappointment. The only two items that were worth buying was the sweet potato soufflé, when its not too sweet, and the hush puppies. The collard greens were very tough and undercooked and had absolutely not seasoning. The Mac and cheese was way too greasy and cheesy with little flavor. The BBQ was ok. The chicken bog was ok as well. Overall, I was disappointed. If you are looking for down home southern comfort food, skip Rogers BBQ. Don't waste yo money. read more

The buffet style is a great concept if only the food was good too. This is by far the worst bbq my family has ever had!

First off, The inside of this place is GROSS!!! Needs a update badly plus NEW tables and chairs. The flooring NEEDS to be replaced. The folks at the register our RUDE and talk about other employees while I was standing there getting my food. The food was OK I've had better I liked the spicy BBQ though. My Waitress was very FRIENDLY and had GREAT customer service. I was really impressed because she seemed to be working alone. There was another waitress that reap of smoke and was cussing up a storm dropping fbombs while my 5 year old and I sat eating lunch. I was almost to the point of walking out but thankful she walked away. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone especially a family with kids. Which is sad because its a family restaurant. If you do go I suggest try and sit at a table that the lady with the short pixie brown hair is working, She was the best waitress I've had a at buffet restaurant. Kept the tables cleared of plates and keep checking up on us and brought my daughter a cup with lid without having to ask. read more

i am from chicago but lived in south carolina en years and we dont have good ol BBQ the way the south does... this place is mouth watering and keeps ya coming back. swear to ya its heaven in ur mouth. everybodys got different taste but. i highly suggest ya give it a shot YEEHAW read more
