I'm not in Dickinson that often. But if I were, this would be a regular stop. This joint very much reminded me of my childhood ... with the varied menu board and the vinyl-covered particle board tables. The only thing that differed was that they actually delivered our food to the table. (Back in the day, they'd yell your name to come grab your order.) Though this place is a veritable time machine, it is clean and the people working it are polite. I didn't try the signature malt, rather I had a burger and fries. Both were decent. Nothing out of this world, but better than the chains. I asked for a sample of the house salsa (they have a ton of Tex-Mex items on the menu) and I was blown away. It's a nice combo of onion, cilantro and spice -- some of the best I've had in greater Houston. This place is not a destination joint for me, but it's definitely worth a stop when I'm in this neck of the woods. And yes, I ordered salsa to go. read more

Very dirty! They need some serious help.. None of the food is fresh. Cashier was very rude, had to tell her 10 times before she could get my order right! Need better cashier.. water has black stuff in it, looks like dirt! Lemons are slimy! No hand-menu.. Send health department over here!! Main course was "OK" not that good.. the cashier did give me a sweet tea in exchange for the bad water after the complaint. My husband used to frequent this shop with his colleague at his previous company. On a whim we decided to grab it for dinner on our way home one evening. Hard to find the actual menu and all its offerings online, which can be inconvenient if you're wanting to order ahead. And we recommend doing so or you'll be in for a hefty wait time. For a bit of history and a lot of great food visit here! The decor is vintage but clean. The menu is an old Dr Pepper one from at least 1970 . The Mexican menu is thus big poster board of cut out descriptions. My husband tried the malt shop menu with a burger, tots and soda . I visited the Mexican menu for the most basic three...ground beef tacos, rice and beans. We loved it! Forgot to take a pic after we dug in. They also serve a wide variety of other dishes. I think beef stuffed baked potato or chicken mole for my next meal. But we're gonna utilize the half price after five burger night on Wednesdays. read more

This establishment gave me a large sense of nostalgia as I walked in. The old tables and format of the shop were refreshing and fun. The menu had too many options to count as they had a wide variety of American and Mexican food, which all sounded appetizing. I had a Chili Cheeseburger which had good flavor and was really messy, but that's to be expected from a burger like that. There were a lot of choices for malts, but I chose the Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate. Finally, went to Roger's Malt shop for breakfast. Very nice waitress, talked to her for ten minutes. This place has been around since the early sixties and like Sonny's in Galveston, is a local favorite. Whether it's popular with the teenie boppers is unknown to me, but you could assume it was a happening place in previous decades. There was a table of old timers ( all men) having breakfast and talking. Whereas Sonny's place in Galveston has the same style, the clientele is different. If a production company wanted to make a remake of "On the Waterfront", or "Cannery Row" it could easily film in and hire extras at Sonny's place. Roger's would be more suitable for a remake of "Picnic", or the"Last Picture Show", where the customers sit and talk about ag prices on the Kansas Board of Trade, or the best fencing wire. I ordered the Swiss cheese omelette with two sausage patties, coffee and milk. Pretty good stuff, although the cook, as explained by the waitress, takes his time. This enabled me to have the nice conversation with the waitress. I'm giving them four stars,because although wrapped in a napkin, the utensils were plastic. No female customers were in the diner, but the old guys previously mentioned ware using some pretty spicy language although the subject matter was innocent. You'd think guys presumably in their seventies wouldn't be talking like that, and it wouldn't be allowed at Sonny's .Thus, they get four stars. read more

Haven't been to Rogers Malt Shoppe in years but was over that way today and stopped for lunch. I was impressed with the quality of food and ice cream I remember from back when. At some point, they have added Mexican food to their menu. I was intrigued but not wanting to take a chance, I ordered a hamburger with 2 tacos on the side. The hamburger was a nicely hand pressed patty on a toasty bun and tasted the way a malt shop burger is supposed to taste. The tacos were crispy with not too greasy and perfectly seasoned ground beef with freshly chopped lettuce and plenty of ripe tomatoes. The side of salsa was homemade and added just the right touch. My lunch companion ordered the Hurricane Harvey special of two tacos rice and beans for six something. Her meal was also flavorful and well prepared. We both drooled over the large display case of many varieties of Bluebell ice cream but decided on chocolate malts that were hand prepared the old fashioned way. Actually tasted like a chocolate malt should. The place was very clean and the service was good. I don't plan on waiting so long until next time read more

We're new to the area from Washington state, and my husband is gone quite frequently which lives me alone with my two preschool aged children for days on end. This usually ends up with one or two days of good behavior bribed by ice cream. So, after said vibe, I headed out of the house to find some good ice cream. My intentions were to go to sonic as it's the closest fast food joint to my house, but then I saw this place next door. It looked a little dumpy, but I figured I should give some business to the locals and we headed in. There wasn't a soul in there aside from the staff, which is fine, since my children act like heathens when there is ice cream involved. They had a nice selection of Blue Bell ice cream including one atrocity that was vanilla ice cream colored with blue, red, and yellow food coloring. Regardless, we got two gigantic scoops of ice cream for $3, and I can't complain about that price tag. The ice cream my kids ate left them multicolored, as well as the table we were sitting at, and when I tried to clean it the lady working assured me my mess was okay and that she would handle it. I like that, especially after working in food service for so long, I know how annoying cleaning a table after some kids have destroyed it can be. The food menu was a little everywhere from what I read as I ate my ice cream cone, burgers and fries...enchiladas... but prices looked reasonable and I wouldn't mind trying some of the food sometime. The cleanliness of the facility could benefit from a good scrubbing, but eh. Overall, we'll definitely go back, even if its just for some quiet ice cream eats. read more
