Astoria is a wonderful little town that features many restaurants worth trying. However, "Rogue" isn't one of them. The service was terrible, the prices weren't competitive, and I couldn't finish any part of my meal because of poor preparation and overall greasiness. Although the views of the Columbia River were good from the window tables, there are better restaurants in the downtown area so my recommendation would be don't "go Rogue." read more

Rogue is still one of our favorite places to stop for a beer when passing through Astoria. They have a great variety of beers, their food is good, and the servers are always friendly and helpful. The views from the tables next to the windows along r tge water are nice, too. It's a unique spot located at the end of a pier directly on the water, so it's worth a visit for that alone. read more

I don't even live in Astoria, I live about 40 minutes away, but I have come here at least four times since I moved here six weeks ago. Everything I have tried has been fantastic. The fish and chips are superb. Clam chowder is wonderful. The beer and also the root beer on tap is as good as it gets. I'd say the service is what puts them really over the top. I love the look and feel of the place, you can sit in front of the television, watch a game on a comfy couch or you can sit in some comfortable chairs at a table by a window and watch the happenings on the Columbia river, or you can sit outside! We were out walking in Astoria and stumbled upon Pier 39 where Rogue Ales is located. This place is located in an old cannery building that contains an old-timey museum of fish cannery memorabilia. We decided to stop in for a quick drink and snack. Not wanting alcohol, we ordered their root beer on draft and pretzels. Yum! The root beer was delicious, not too sweet and not too carbonated. Much better than other root beer we've had. The pretzels with two sauces were hot and salty and the cheese sauce was savory and rich. The whole grain mustard was great too. We got the pub smash burger, hazelnut cranberry salad, two oyster shooters a bear flight kids, fish and chips and two kids chicken nuggets with fries. All the food came out fast fresh and was yummy. My daughter got their house, made root beer and was in a fan because of course they were used to the mug and Barq's root beer. I liked it but, I'm an adult and kids taste buds aren't nearly sophisticated as ours lol. The Smashburger has thick patties, not like a driving, thin Smashburger, but still yummy. They have great rash and barbecue sauce, which is what we got to dip the fries in. I really liked the crunch of the hazelnuts in the salad. The balsamic vinaigrette is more creamy it was really really good. I did have to try the fish and chips and kids chicken nuggets and they were all amazing. My daughter got the fish and chips with tater tots instead of french fries and their tots were overcooked but still yummy. This place is ok! I've had Rogue beer in the past so I was excited to try this place while visiting Astoria. I love fish and chips, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to give it a try. The beers are great of course. The food is fine, I wouldn't order the fish and chips again. The batter was soft and gummy, not really appetizing. The fries were somehow perfectly crisp, so I know they know how to make crispy fried foods... the fried fish just was not crispy. Rogue Public House is one of my go to spots in Astoria, along with the Bowpicker and South Bay Wild Fish house. I get the Fish and Chips every time I go, so I will not be reviewing any other food. Rogue in Astoria is on an old cannery pier (Pier 39) on the Columbia River. When the windows are open, you can hear nearby sea lions barking. You can also see container ships anchored in the river, and the Astoria-Megler bridge. The atmosphere is laid back with a slightly hoppy aroma befitting a brew pub. Our waitress was in training, and was struggling with the order a bit, but she was friendly and attentive. Everybody has to start somewhere. I can offer only encouragement, and a decent tip. The fish and chips were just fine. I got the salmon. The batter, while not crispy everywhere had a good flavor. The fish was perfectly done. I would rate it 7 out of 10 as a whole. The fries were good, but could have used more salt. The portion size was also good at 3 pieces and a generous helping of fries. I will continue to stop here when I am in the area. read more

Cool pier you drive over (single car access in/out, so only 1 car can be going over at a time). Cool view of the ocean and Astoria bridge. You can hear sea lions barking nearby, such a beach vibe which I love, totally adds to the experience. Service was good and attentive. We got the halibut fish n chips, the cranberry salad and fried cheese curds. The fish n chips were fantastic - great portion size, fish tasted fresh, comes with fries and coleslaw. The salad was okay, not a larger enough portion to be considered a full meal even after adding avocado for an extra $2, so I'll probably not get it again as I don't feel it was worth it to not be full. Tasty though. Fried cheese curds were really great! Would recommend. It comes with a sweet n spicy dipping sauce. Lastly we got beers, because we're at a brewery, so duh lol. Solid beers always. Once again on point. Stepped up big time when their taps went down on Hood to Coast weekend. Offered cocktails from the spirits they were selling as well as any cold beers from the cooler. FYI....Rogue Astoria....just run nitro through one tap and CO2 through the others like everyone else does. The chowder was amazing again as well as the pretzels with beer cheese. I dropped a menu onto the floor due to the wind, and the server walking passed told me to pick it up because they were going to trip on it. Obviously I was in the motion to pick up the menu, but I felt like their tone was disrespectful and outrageously rude. Well my last review I dinged this establishment for using those little plastic serving cups and suggested paper ones. Well guess what? We went yesterday for dinner and I had the fish/chips and the coleslaw, ketchup and tartar were all in paper cups!!! So I HAVE to come back and rescind my -1 star. They even ASKED if we wanted straws before dropping them off (said no of course) Last time they had no paper menus, this time they did. Menu has changed a bit, the fish options were salmon or rockfish (no halibut tonight). I had the salmon. Now before you go 'ewwww, deep fried salmon?!' let me tell you, it actually came out flakey and juicy, not dry as you might suspect. They have a tasty battered coating. The tots are delicious. Mmmmm. My wife had the rockfish, she enjoyed it too. My son had the burger, and he reported favorably. The chowder looked tempting but at $6.50 a cup I passed. Service was great, friendly. My only gripes; no salt/pepper at the table, and if you ask for it you just get the little paper dispensed kind (we all agreed the coleslaw was underseasoned). And no 'NA' brewed options (they used to have a fantastic cucumber concoction), just root beer. But not enough to knock off a star. Huge array of beer options, but I dont drink alcohol. Good burgers. Nice views. Friendly staff. The three most important things in a restaurant were on point. However there were a few things that were sub par. The bathrooms are awful. Like, crappy campgrounds or run down park bathrooms but with a fishy smell. I get that they must be shared with the other business but they were nasty. The other reason I took a couple of stars off is the disappointing menu. There just isn't much to choose from. Basically, it's nice enough to grab a beer, a burger, and watch the waves. read more

Brewery 4 of 14. We hit 4 out of 14 breweries today on Oregon's North Coast Craft Beer Trail. Quality/Quantity - Excellent. Approximately 30 beers on tap. My flight consist of: Morimoto Soba Daze. Cosmic Punch Hazy Pale Ale - my favorite. F*#k Putin IPA - had to try. :) Dead guy ale - one of their best sellers. Sidewinder Fries - comes with beer cheese and ranch; we also asked for ketchup. This was piping hot, so hot that even after dipping them in the sauce, we could not eat it. Can it get any fresher than that? See menu for other options. Also daily specials. Atmosphere - Drove over a wooden bridge to get here, it was almost a one lane bridge so be safe! Pier 39 is a cool place in itself to check out. Limited and slightly confusing indoor and outdoor parking. Lots of beer for sale to-go also. Yes I bought some more... Merchandise for sale. Small private room in the back. Indoor/outdoor seating, overlooking the water. Bathrooms are shared with Pier 39, so they are outside in the parking garage... Service - Understaffed today, so counter service only. But the team did a GREAT job. All friendly and hard workers. Price - Very reasonable prices, the flight of 4 beers only cost $8. Special fries for $7. 4pack of beer for $12.39. When in Astoria I always choose Roque ale's public house as my go to place. Yesterday, while sitting at the end of the bar (completely unoccupied) I ordered a beer, some clam chowder, chicken wings and fries. It took over 45 minutes to get the food and the fries were cold when they came out. I will add the place was packed but not until well after I had placed my order. While enjoying my food and my second beer, a couple came in and asked if I could move because they wanted to sit where I was sitting. Apparently my face gave off an expression that caught the attention of another customer sitting around the opposite side of the bar. He offered to give up his seat if they wanted to sit together. The bartender then chimed in with, those are their regular seats ( there was no reserved sign), So that's where they prefer to sit. As I sat there not knowing what to do and the stares that I could feel through my back of those that wanted my seat. I stood up and moved over without the help of the bartender who had suggested it. When I moved, it was to a spot that they were using for a bussing area and had not been cleaned. Due to my inconvenience and the apparent look on my face as I said no problem after each time the couple thanked me for moving, the bartender comped me a beer. I will tell you right now. It was a problem. For someone to come up in the middle of your meal and ask you to move first of all is rude, which the lady had no problem being. Secondly it should have been clarified by the bartender, when I walked in that it was a reserved section, if in fact, it was. Next time I will try Fort George. I was going to go there in the first place. Should have gone with my gut. read more

Excellent drinks with pretty good food. mixed in as well. I came here during the off-season For a lunch, and was very happily surprised by the quality of the food and had excellent and friendly wait staff. The pub is located in the historic cannery building and it still has the waterfront grittyness feelto it that I like from a bygone era. The pub itself is comfortable and about what one should expect when you go into this type of restaurant. I'll definitely be back to continue working my way through their excellent tap list. We were in Astoria recently and stopped by Rogue for lunch. We had to wait in line for about 30 mins before we could order, got a table right after ordering. We got Blackened Salmon Sandwich, Salmon Fish and Chips, Bay Bridge Banh Mi, Distiller's Chicken Sandwich. We liked all the items we ordered. We picked a combination of fries and tots as the sides on the different dishes and got to try both, they are both good. Salmon in both the Fish and chips and the salmon sandwich were so fresh. Bay Bridge Banh Mi wasn't our first choice, they were out of Beyond Burger and suggested the Banh Mi instead. Definitely a must try place. read more

I ordered the rockfish fish and chips and my friend ordered the blackened salmon burger. I really loved the seasoning on my fries and in the fish batter. I believe thyme may be the magic ingredient here. It's so good. The batter on the fish was light and could have been about the best I've ever had EXCEPT it was just so incredibly greasy. Batter next to fish was a little underdone also. So disappointing as it looked so good. Steak fries had thyme in the seasoning also and were excellent. My friend had the blackened salmon burger. It wasn't very "blackened" and instead of one piece there were three small pieces and she said her fish was greasy or "slimy". A bit underwhelmed by our experience. read more
