After a disappointing lunch at another Thai restaurant the other day, I was in this area and saw that I had Mitr Thai bookmarked and wanted to finally try. Walked in around 1:30pm and it was very busy but I was able to grab a table. They have a solid lunch special and as basic as it is, I love a good Pad Thai and ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. The sauce, spiciness level (asked for medium spicy and it was actually medium spicy) and noodles were all delicious and I was surprised at how juicy the chicken was. I've been to some places where the chicken can be quite dry but the chicken here was actually cooked well and would recommend. The one particular thing to note at this restaurant was that the noise level was exceptionally loud for a Thai restaurant (during lunch). After spending most of Labor Day in upstate New York for a wedding, I was fortunate enough to have local New Yorkers arrange a dinner plans in the city. Considering the hectic 48hrs of non-stop traveling and celebrations, I would've been satisfied with a simple takeout meal to end the weekend but to my surprise, one of the best experiences of the trip was yet to come. Thankfully I was blessed with great friends to recommend this exceptional establishment known as Mitr Thai in Midtown Manhattan. Though the trip was centered around a wedding, my experience here instantly became the highlight of my trip to the City. One very genuine friend arranged this dinner, making a reservation for 3 for 7:30pm. To our surprise, we actually made it from Connecticut, walked from Grand Central and to Mitr Thai at 7:25pm even though they won't seat you until your entire party is there. After passing through the scaffolding, the restaurant has a two-door entry, one host after another, leading to a quaint but alluring lobby area. We were greeted by both hosts even though we were bogged down with luggage. The space was welcoming and had a sense of elegance as there was a blend of hardwood furnishings, low lighting and a heavy dose of Thai art/fixtures. For context: Labor Day Monday, at 7-8pm, there was a steady demand as the waiting bench remained full. There were even guests standing but even as more people came in, people were being seated at a consistent rate. Our 3rd friend arrived closer to 8pm and we were seated immediately. Our bags were placed in a small room behind the host podium and we were seated 20-30 meters from the door along the wall facing the bar. The menus were very comprehensive: large, descriptive and filled with graphics that left me wondering if I could try it all. I couldn't praise our server (Mindy) enough. She knew the kitchen, bar and any/all offerings like her own name. She had individual recommendations for each of us AND ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. I listened, ordered the Short Rib Prik Kang and indulged in a Verdant Whisper (Tequila, Cucumber, Lime). I'm not sure how but our food arrived less than 15mins later! The short rib looked good enough to make the entire restaurant jealous: the curry paste glistened in the light, the aroma called my name while the garnishes winked at me. To my disbelief, as good as it looked, it tasted even better! The sauce was robust, smooth, creamy & just spicy enough. Since the ribs slid off the bone, I mixed in the white mixed rice and ate it as a meal. I can proudly say I've never had anything like it. Oh yeah, the cocktail? Smooth, refreshing and relaxing. Worth every penny. I was elated with the overall experience and chose to pay for both of my friend's meals. My only regret is not having more to tip! Mindy gave us the table to chat for another 30mins but in the back of my mind I was still enamored from the meal. I had no expectations when I entered Mitr Thai but I left with a sincere amount of praise and admiration. From cuisine to the hospitality down to the furnishings, dining here was one of the best overall experiences I've had in YEARS. This Thai spot in Midtown was so busy when I came on a Wednesday evening. I highly encourage recommendations as you might be faced with a long wait otherwise. They have two floors of seating (so spacious) and service is pretty quick. I got their papaya salad, roti massaman, pad see ew, ped pa loh (duck), and green curry. The papaya salad really stood out to me, but I enjoyed all of their dishes. What I liked about this spot is that they split their menu up between regions of Thailand so you get to know which dishes are from where (pretty cool!). Summer Friday lunch has started becoming our thing. Most restaurants are usually empty around noon; but not at Mitr Thai. Luckily, we had a reservation, because it was packed. They sat us upstairs, and brought the menus, specials and waters in no time. Miriam was cheerful and helped us navigate through the fairly large menu. She even made some recommendations. We started with the Curry Puffs (2), which were very filling. I'd heard a lot about Mitr Thai and finally got around to trying it. It lived up to the hype and honestly even better than I expected. Gai Gor Lae (chicken satay): really juicy and well marinaded. Delicious! Roti Massaman: the roti comes in small triangles, easy to dip in curry. The massaman is rich, sweet, and very comforting. Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo: crispy pork belly fried rice served with egg and pork rind. This is a must order! Super crunchy, packed with flavor, and just really satisfying. Crab fried rice: you can't go wrong here. Solid and well executed. Black sticky rice with coconut ice cream: surprisingly really good. The contrast in textures and flavors works so well. It is so beautiful inside-great artwork hanging from the ceiling and everything about it screams class and culture. The staff were so kind and attentive. When returning here a second time, I didn't heed my own advice, and missed my reservation by under a minute and they gave away our table. We ended up waiting 45min for the next table. Totally my fault but just a reminder - they even put multiple signs up to warn about this as well. I'd also repeat that the pad see ew is the best taste and value here. Everything we got was amazing! We tried a variety of usual dishes and some new ones too. We started with the chicken skewers and roti Massamun. Both were great. The Massamun curry was delicious and the chicken skewers were really flavorful. For mains we shared the Kao soy gai, crab fried rice, kua gai and green curry with 6 people. Added ourselves to the wait list and a table was ready in 20 minutes. Gulped down our beer at the bar and headed back. Great service and the food came quickly. The soup was our favorite. I had high expectations since a friend highly recommended this place as the best Thai food he's had in recent years, so I was expecting to be wowed. My friend recommended this Thai spot since she's been here before. Our reservations were at 6:30pm for 5ppl on a Monday. When you make a reservation on resy, there is a $30 charge per guest for no shows and dining time is allotted for a hour and 30 minutes. This place was pretty busy on a Monday. Lovely and vibrant restaurant in the heart of Midtown. Seriously delicious modern Thai dishes. The Thai iced tea was very tasty, my friends enjoyed it so much they ordered another one. We shared all the starters, main dishes, and desserts. My personal favorites were the gai gor lae which is the grilled marinated chicken skewers, the massaman gai was amazing, the ped paloh was phenomenal, my friends also ordered this duck dish to go for their partners, beef pad se-ew is also very good. My wife and I came here for dinner before our show, and as big Thai food fans, Mitr Thai did not disappoint. We loved the concept of ordering small plates from different regions of Thailand. We tried the Northern Thai sausage with pork rinds and an egg, the deep-fried spring roll from Central Thailand, the papaya salad from Northeast Thailand, and the roti from Southern Thailand. D-LISH! That pretty much sums up this restaurant! We were looking for someplace near my daughter's work that was open late as she finished at 9. Mitr Thai was just the ticket. Right around the corner and open for another hour and a half. When we walked in, the lobby was packed and some people were waiting outside for their tables. Every seat in the house, including at the bar, was occupied. While we waited, we noticed a second floor seating area and the to-go/ delivery pickups were constantly being brought out about every 2 to 3 minutes. The menu was unique, with food broken down into the various four regions of Thailand. Many of the names were familiar from previous Thai dining experiences. Others not so much. We tried some familiar favorites as well as explored others as well. The flavors were amazing. The spice levels were pretty extreme for the seafood Tom Yum soup. We sampled each of the entrees family style and were really happy with each. If you visit, be prepared for a wait. But also be prepared to be completely satisfied. Service was great. This Thai restaurant recommended by my friends in New York served a lot of unfamiliar flavors to me. It was really delicious that deserved to rank No.1 on the popularity chart of southeast Asian restaurant in New York city in Dazhong Dianping大眾點評, China's food review platform. Short Rib Prik Kang: As a lover of Southeast Asian cuisine, I have never eaten this taste in Thai restaurants in China. According to ChatGPT, Prik Kang is literally "curry chili sauce", which is made by grinding chili, garlic, Thai shallot, galangal, lemongrass, coriander root, shrimp paste and salt and stir-frying with coconut oil. The menu showed it was the southern Thailand style. The fragrance of lemongrass and the saltiness and umami of shrimp sauce were more prominent, while a little coconut milk softened the flavor. And there was almost no spiciness. After a long time stew, the sauce was very rich, and the beef were soft and flavorful, reaching the level of easy bone removal. The combination of various spices was very delicious, but the seasoning is a bit too salty, so it was better to eat it with rice. Tom Kha Gai Hot Pot: I thought it would be similar to the Hainan coconut milk chicken hot pot, but it turned out to be a mysterious taste that I had never tasted before. I was very surprised! I got the kao soy gai and it was too rich for me - I finished the chicken but left the egg noodles because it soaked up too rich of the sauce. Such a huge fan of Mitr Thai! I've visited numerous times and been so impressed with each meal here. The setting is beautiful, with gorgeous decorations and a lively atmosphere. While the restaurant has always been super busy every time I've visited, the service is speedy and efficient. The menu is divided into four regions and expansive. Every dish I've tried has been delicious. My favorites include the pad mhee korat (rice noodle with crispy pork belly) and the roti massaman. All the dishes I've tried have been seasoned to perfection and incredibly flavorful. For dessert, the mango sticky rice is a standout. I can't wait for another visit! read more

I thought it was good Thai food! There's not a lot of vegetarian options to be honest but I did really enjoy the Thai basil fried rice and the tofu massaman roti. Drinks were really good - highly recommend getting the Panda with an N drink and the Ripen. Food is well cooked and very flavorful. Our server Popeye was great! Super quick and attentive service. Personally thought this was better than Soothr. Midtown has a lot of amazing Thai options. We ordered the roti and curry dip, short rib, a pork belly fried rice and pork belly noodle dish. I'm convinced you can't go wrong with any of your orders here! Make a reservation if you can. I went in at 6pm on a Saturday and they said the wait was about 35 minutes. It was only a 10 minute wait for us. When seated, we were told the limit was 1.5 hours. We ordered a curry, a pineapple rice and the pork belly. It was sooo good. My pineapple rice was good, there wasn't a strong fragrance of pineapple in my rice... there were just some pieces of pineapple. The pork belly was so crispy, that was my favorite dish. My husband originally chose a green curry with 3 spicy peppers but was worried and downgraded to 2 spicy peppers. The 2 spicy pepper curry was just right for him. Overall this was a great pick!
