We were in Chicago for a couple of days in June and Roister came highly recommended. Our group of 6 was seated for an early dinner around 5:30PM. I loved that it was a completely open kitchen that I could peek at throughout the meal and see how the chefs were operating. The aged cheddar rilettes were 11/10. I'm still thinking about the bread. We also got oysters, roasted duck, smoked cauliflower, and the roister chicken. Though the duck was different from the traditional Peking style, I still really enjoyed the flavours. I wish all iterations of this dish came with scallion pancakes. We ended off the meal with the Cookies and Milk. I wasn't sure what to expect from its name, but this dessert was delicious. Overall, the quality of the restaurant was apparent in its unique menu items and level of service. I would definitely return the next time I'm in the city!

Wow all these great reviews, we were not that impressed. Started with the ricotta mushroom toast with chestnut, blue oyster. There was so much ricotta you could not taste anything else. There was SO much ricotta, not enjoyable. I had the Cesar salad with added crispy chicken wing. The salad had so much dressing it was utterly gross. The wing had no flavor. The smoked salmon Benedict on croissant was tasty. Our server was very nice and efficient.

This is a really late review, so I'm sure what I have to say echoes so many people's opinions. It was a bit of a trek getting to Roister due to all the construction happening on their street back then. But the food, the vibe, and the top notch service was all worth it. The food was sublime. The dishes were made of ingredients that one would never think could complement each other, but their magical kitchen performs feats of culinary alchemy. Pasta with clams and mint? A chocolate bar made with duck fat? And those oysters that haunt my dreams to this day...I'll never be the same after that meal. When my hubby expressed how big a fan he was of Grant Achatz, the head chef invited him into the kitchen to observe their operations. So he stood there as they prepared dinner for all the diners. That experience is something that he talks about to this day. All in all, we had a wonderful time at Roister, and we will definitely come back to Chicago and plan our vacation around this restaurant. Their food and kindness left lasting memories for our family.

Roister, part of the Alinea group and located in the heart of Fulton Market, features incredible roasted meats, including a roast duck dish (a unique take on Peking duck) that is absolutely spectacular. Honestly, their duck is much better tasting and cooked than a lot of the typical Peking duck places you find elsewhere in the city, such as down south in Chinatown or up north in Argyle. Plus, they refill pancakes to your heart's desire - which usually doesn't happen at other establishments! I just read that Roister's final service is coming at the end of this week, so make sure to visit one last time before the new concept is announced!

We were visiting from Atlanta and still can't stop talking about how delicious this food was! It was a little confusing finding the entrance but so worth it! I am a person that likes sauces so I asked for a side of ranch and they did not have any but the chef said he would make it from scratch. That was some of the best ranch I've had Food-We ordered Roasted tomato soup, French dip À La St. Clair Supper Club, fried chicken sandwich and for dessert the cheesecake and cookies and milk. Atmosphere - We sat at the chef's counter and it was so cool to see the food being prepared and how encouraging the chef was to everyone in the kitchen. We went in for lunch so it was pretty empty in the restaurant. Service - The service was great and we felt welcomed.

My boyfriend and I went here for brunch and I loved it! We started with the cheddar rilettes, which was easily the highlight of the meal. I would go back solely for these. They were buttery, the rolls were soft and perfectly salted. We also got some espresso martinis which were fantastic. I ordered the mushroom toast. I loved the cheese on top, and I am a huge mushroom fan so I really enjoyed it. The toast was a little hard to cut and chew however. We also got the sliced potatoes as a side and they were so crispy! The staff were super nice and we sat at the counter so we got to watch them make the food which was cool. I would absolutely come back for their brunch especially!

Made reservations to meet up with a friend for dinner at Roister. We arrived on time at this Fulton Market spot. Host grabbed our coats to check and we were led to our table quickly. As others have described, it is very loud. An open kitchen and fun music, expect a festive evening. We sat down and wished we had a bigger group to order more food. Table next to us had a large group and had 1 of everything it seemed. We ordered way too much food for 2. Daily Selection of Meats & Cheeses-Sunny Ridge, Linedeline, Haus Select Cheddar, Soppressata Picante, Coppa Picante, Salami di manzo Cheese vendors were all from Wisconsin. Roister Chicken-fried thigh, roasted breast, chamomile, gravy & hot sauce Blackened Asparagus-hard boiled egg, mint, beef mignonette Robuchon style Mash Potatoes Sea Bass The standout was the Roister Chicken and the sauces. Chicken was moist and the breading was flavorful and crunchy. I kept going back and forth as to whether I liked the gravy or hot sauce more. I was happy to take back to my hotel and continue nibbling after hours. I'm hindsight, I should not have ordered that meat & cheese plate; that was a meal alone. Overall, I enjoyed all my dishes and would go back to try more.

Wine menu is extremely fairly priced.

Roister comes with high expectations being a part of the Alinea group and formerly being a one-star restaurant. Overall, Roister is a great experience. Food and service are above the quality of many other restaurants. However, in my opinion, some items are too highly priced (especially the brioche bread), and you can receive better service at some other restaurants. That's kind of my takeaway from here - everything is great, but nothing particularly stands out, especially if you come expecting one-star quality. The exception is the pricing of the wine menu, which has a diverse and impressive selection without upcharging as much as its competitors. My only other complaint is that the volume of music is too high. My table struggled to ever hear our waitress, despite her repeating herself for us. If you have been eyeing Roister, I still recommend you give it a try. 4.5/5.

We came here on a fluke after a night out at a nearby restaurant overall we really enjoy the food. I thought it was pricey for some of the entrees. However they did have a 9 course tasting menu for a $110 per person. I believe that also included a cocktail. On this occasion we tried the short rib gnudi and fry bread with cheese sauce. What I like about the restaurant is that you can see the thoughtfulness put into making the food and the menu. I appreciate it that if you sign up the bar you could literally see them prepare aver dish and would fire the chicken right in front of your eyes. I definitely would come back when I was looking to eat a meal. Unfortunately on this occasion we really were just looking to snack.

A chef friend recommended Roister, so we knew it would be excellent. Service was on point, flavors and cookery were all incredible. I ordered the fish collar, which was beautifully prepared and a large portion of protein for a hungry, active girl. If we lived in Chicago area, this would be on our regular list of date night spots!

    Aged Cheddar Rillettes
    Nick P.

We came here for lunch. I was excited to try this place as it's a sister restaurant of Alinea. I expected great quality after reading through the reviews. I loved the aged cheddar rillettes, I wished there was more. The chicken however was in small portion and salty and dry. No one likes salty, dry chicken so I'm not sure why they served it. Service was good. Rating is like 2.5

Me smiling ear to ear about the fried chicken and drinks.

Ambiance/ Decor The ambiance is what I notice right away when I walked into the restaurant. It was a Saturday night and very lively out. The restaurant was full of people, the bar area as well. The decor was beautiful upon entering the open concept restaurant. Service We checked in with our host and were seated within 2 minutes. Once seated our waiter came to our table to take our drink order very quickly. He was incredibly nice and very thorough. Our waiter checked on us many times throughout the evening. Bringing us the drinks we requested each time super quick. We orders a small plate app to share and our entrees as we opted for the most popular items. Food Roister has a lot of hype behind it, I think due to its Michelin star status. The hype is well deserved because my goodness, everything was absolutely delicious. I don't have one critique about any of the food items we selected. They were all superb, so fresh and flavorful, hot and juicy. Perfectly tender and chewy. With the fish dish, my love noted that in his culture with the way they prepare fish, it seems to be a similar technique. The fish was phenomenal. The chicken was so tasty, way better than the usual restaurant chicken you would receive with a side of waffles or what have you... it was mind blowing. The duck was so tender and delicious, juicy, a mouthful of flavors exploding. You really cannot go wrong with any of the items. I cannot wait to go back. Side note-- we ordered a lot of food and had to take some leftover home. They were still phenomenal the next day...crazy right? Must be witchcraft Drinks The drinks were served quickly and very crisp clear flavors. They were tasty, but I'll be honest not super memorable. I think they have good options, but for a Michelin star restaurant, I'd like it to be a little more memorable or unique. Not to complain at all because obviously it was all lovely. Dessert Unfortunately because we ordered two entrees and two small plates, and four drinks..we were absolutely stuffed and could not get dessert. But that is on the list for next time. The options look delicious. I will update upon our return. Overall Roister is such a worth it experience for people or a person looking for a delicious meal that won't totally break the bank. You can tell there was intense thought that went into this menu and the processes in which they take to make it perfect. I would come here every week if I could. I highly recommend and look forward to our return to this lovely restaurant and the amazing staff. Thank you!

This is my 3?4th? Time back and Roister never disappoints. Their chicken is so crispy, cooked to perfection. My best friend comes to Chicago just for Roister's chicken and waffles, not for me. Service is always so pleasant and ambiance is relaxed but not loud. Perfect brunch spot!

    Is it byob?

For lunch what do most prefer - the chicken sandwich or Wagyu burger?

We have a reservation for 9pm, just looked here and it says they close at 9pm. Should I be worried?

No. Assuming you paid for your reservation. You should be all set. Enjoy!

Would you recommend trying to do a Walk-In?

No! Maybe for brunch but definitely not for dinner.

They serve a special duck dinner but no info on it . Anyone have it?

It's similar to what they consider the Chicken Dinner. It's just the duck entree and it's served with rice and duck prepared different ways. It was very delish and serves about 2-3 people with decent appetites.

    Casual attire ok?

Even more casual than business casual is fine. We were all wearing jeans. But not as casual as wearing work out clothes ;)

Can Roister accommodate a vegan diet? If so, what are the options?

The only entree I saw that was Vegan was the lasagna. We loved it! Overall, the menu is not extensive, but it does have great salads and non meat appetizers. Try the hush puppies, awesome!

The pictures of the food don't look appetizing at all...what is their signature dish or do they have one?

Cookies and milk is die for. The butter pasta w clams is amazing. The Hushpuppies are fantastic. Even the avocado toast w chicken liver. Everything we had was amazing.

This is not the place for a quiet conversation. It may be one of the loudest restaurants I've visited in quite some time, and a nearby birthday celebration only added to the energy. That said, the atmosphere is part of the appeal. If you're looking for a fun, celebratory evening with friends or family, Gilt Bar delivers. I can't imagine choosing it for a business dinner. We started with the Tenderloin Steak Tartare and onion rings. Both were excellent. My daughter was craving the Bolognese, while I ordered the vodka rigatoni. The portions were generous, and both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. The truffle mafaldine appears to be the menu's most celebrated pasta and receives plenty of attention on Yelp, but we were very happy with our selections. Service was spot on throughout the evening. Food arrived with good pacing, drinks were refreshed promptly, and our server struck the right balance between attentive and intrusive. For dessert, we shared the gooey skillet cookie. Be warned: this thing arrives at the table with nuclear-level heat. The vanilla ice cream isn't just there for flavor, it's there for protection. One unusual observation: the floors seemed surprisingly slippery throughout the restaurant, something we noticed more than once. Our bill came to $159 before tip, which felt reasonable given the quality of the food, service, and overall experience. Between the lively atmosphere, strong food, excellent service, and vibrant bar scene, it's easy to understand why Gilt Bar has remained popular for more than 15 years

I also was able to order an amaretto sour, which they made with freshly hand beaten egg whites, which was a nice cherry on the top. As far as the whiskey flights go, I think the best one was the Vietnam flight because it had a slightly lemongrass twang and was a little bit lighter than the other two. The heaviest one was the Wisconsin which came with a little bit of a bite at the end, but it still wasn't bad if you're trying to blackout on a $15 budget. I would definitely come back with a larger group this seems like a great place, but is a little bit loud- so if you be prepared to yell or wear earplugs. The bathroom took my a second to find, which should have been intuitive considering it was on the opposite end of where you come in. I blame the lighting as things are already pretty hard to find in the dark, but eventually I made it there-Pat myself on the back.

First time visiting the Windy City, we came to the city for the great eats! I'll Porcellino…read morecertainly did not disappoint! For appetizers, we ordered the While Garlic Loaf Focaccia and the Stuffed mushrooms. I wished I took a video when the focaccia arrived. The waiter, holding a plate with a round and fluffy focaccia and proceeded to pour the garlic et al on top of the bread! Very freshly-made and fabulous! The stuffed mushrooms were also cute delicious! This is a rare time where the stuffing had spinach below the stuffing - excellent! I remember seeing (and enjoying) this while I visited Italy. Delightful! The main courses we ordered were the Gnocchi Bolognese, the Baked Burrata Lasagna and the Barolo Braised Short Rib. The Gnocchi meat sauce was the standout here, being very flavorful, but not as heavy as some other restaurants. The Gnocchi were dense - not fluffy as I had expected. But the sauce flavor was vivid. The Baked Burrata Lasagna was oh, so perfect! Many layers of al dente pasta separates with a tasty meat sauce. Many times I have had lasagna that was either over-baked, or had limp pasta. Here, the lasagna shined! So large of a serving that my wife could not finish it, much to her dismay . . . I had the Barolo Braised Short Rib - oh my living god! - so tender, so complete a dish, with the fork tender meat that melts in your mouth, complimented by a light polenta (I must emphasize the lightness here, as many restaurants serve polenta that is heavy and too rich. This did not compete with the short rib, rather it seamlessly became the foundation on which the richness of the meat was enhanced. I was blown away! But, the most amazing, and probably the most delectable part of the evening was finishing off with a luscious Chocolate Cake! OH, WOW!!! The cake was certainly moist and smooth. Yes, smooth! I could not tell there was cake at all, so smooth it was! And surprisingly (not surprising given the quality of this establishment) it wasn't too sweet, rather just enough to bring out the chocolatey goodness! I only wished that I ordered some hot coffee - the cake would have gone well with a great cup of coffee! Overall, I was very impressed with this restaurant! The old-town decor, the dim lights, the fantastic food (just like of the Italy of old!)- all contributing to a wonderful experience! Highly recommended!
