The first five years after we were married, in 1985, Robin and I would celebrate our anniversary at the long closed "Madison De Fondue." I look back nostalgically at those meals, and we occasionally look for a fondue restaurant around the time of our anniversary on December 28th. We've tried the Melting Pot and Rok N Fondue in the past with some success. Being in Redlands on the 27th, we made reservations for Rok N Fondue. I was worried as their Open Table link was not working, but I left a reservation request on their phone and they were quick to text back a confirmation. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted and taken to our table. We ordered their Rok N Cheddar cheese fondue to start. It was served with cubbed bread, tortilla chips, granny smith apples, carrot, celery, and cauliflower. The cheese consistency did not seem to ever properly coalesce. We did a lot of twisting a tearing of cheese to get the provided dippers covered and out of the mix. The taste was good, but the celery and cheese was not a good mix. I ordered the chicken breast, and Robin tried the Bourbon Street - Cajun seasoned petite filet, chicken, shrimp, and andouille sausage. The fondue entrees come with potatoes, mushrooms, and broccoli. The chicken was okay especially using their provided dipping sauces - Chimichurri, Teriyaki BBQ Sauce, and Sweet Chili Wasabi. The vegetables cooked up well and were tasty. Other than the precooked andouille sausage, there did not seem to be noticeable Cajun seasoning with the Bourbon Street entree. Overall a good meal, but not great. The service was attentive and friendly and the building itself is beautiful. They provided us a tasty New York Cheese Cake for our anniversary. It was a nice overall experience. read more

This restaurant holds a special place for my wife and I. It was where we had our first date, so it will always be meaningful to us. The ambiance is warm and romantic, making it a great spot for a date night. The staff is friendly and attentive, which adds to the overall experience. The only downside is the wait time. It can take a while to get seated and for the food to come out, so patience is definitely needed. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality of the food makes it worth it. Our server, Gita L., took great care of us and was very responsive to our needs and requests. We opened with a course of Cheese Fondue that resulted in melting a Cheddar Cheese and Swiss Cheese Blend with garlic and a small amount of Worcestershire Sauce on our table burner, and then dipping pieces of bread and tortilla chips into the hot and tasty mixture. Our entree consisted of two Petite Filets cooked medium rare in our fondue pot with Coq Au Vin Sauce containing beef broth, along with one Lobster Tail, all augmented by chunks of Red Potatoes, Button Mushrooms, Garlic Wine Mushrooms, Carrots, Broccoli and Cauliflower. The trimmed hunks of beef tasted even better topped by Merlot Butter and dunked in Chimichurri Sauce. We ended with a third round of fondue, during which we melted Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Fondue to be applied to an array of skewers brandishing provided slices of Granny Smith Apples, fresh strawberries, bananas, pretzels, marshmallows, Rice Crispy treats, pound cake, and brownies. Wish I would've read the reviews first. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because our server was awesome. If a restaurant has "Fondue" in the name, it should be a five-star experience. I was expecting more "WoW" The bread and chips were honestly the highlight. We didn't even touch the vegetables because there wasn't enough cheese to go around. You'd think they would've brought more cheese, but the bowl wasn't even half full. I was expecting a lot more from a place with fondue in the name, so this was really disappointing. My wife has always wanted to eat here, but after reading reviews afterward, it sounds like there may have been a change in ownership and unfortunately the quality seems to have gone downhill. I recently visited a fondue restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday, hoping for a memorable evening. Despite some negative reviews about the service, I decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake. I had made a reservation through OpenTable for 6:45 PM, but we ended up waiting 25 minutes before being seated. The service was disappointing from the start. Our server took our order, and then we didn't see her again. When our cheese fondue was brought out, the staff member apologized, mentioning that they usually keep the cheeses separate but had mixed them together this time. He then poured the mixture into the pot. For our main course, we ordered sirloin and lamb on the Lava Rock. The lamb was quite good, but the sirloin was very dry. The garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were tasty, but the loaded mashed potatoes were overly salty due to the bacon. We also ordered the jalapeño bacon fondue with pretzels. The menu picture showed a whole pretzel, but we received only half. Throughout the meal, we had to repeatedly ask different staff members for items that should have been provided, such as sauces, butter, knives, and plates. It was frustrating to see the table next to us receiving attentive service from our server, including having their fondue stuff separated and mixed at the table and being provided with all necessary utensils and accompaniments without having to ask. We never received an explanation of how to cook our lava rock food because the food comes out raw. Ambiance was in an older building that is double story. The bar takes up the whole downstairs with a few tables but all other seating area is upstairs. The very least was they gave us a slice of cake for the birthday celebration. We were so tired of waiting and asking for something that we didn't even wanted the dessert fondue that we originally planned on. Good food and clean restaurant. But the service could use improvement. I know the public can be unreasonable and cruel and I always make it a point to show restaurant staff grace because it is a thankless job. But at the same time, the staff needs to set the tone. If they're aggressive how don't think the customers will react? Customers will have their guard up and be annoyed. Anyway, experience is fun and food is good. This place has SIGNIFICANTLY gone down over the last year and a half or so, and my latest visit was the worst. The waitress told us the restaurant recently changed ownership, so maybe that's the issue. The service isn't good. Be prepared to wait a long time for a drink. And if you decide to try and have a drink while you wait for your table, good luck with that. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes without a word from the bartender and the place was only moderately busy. Our most recent visit (10/31/25) was the lowest quality of food we have gotten so far. I ordered the filet on the lava Rok, which was fine, but all of the sides were mediocre at best. In the past, the mushrooms and brussel sprouts were fantastic, but no longer. April was an AMAZING server! She explained how the menu worked as it was our first time visiting the restaurant. She's also very attentive as well. Now, why 3 stars you may ask? For the prices they charge, one would think that the very least they could do after charging you nearly 30 bucks for fondue, would be to NOT serve cold stale bread amd stale chips to consume with the fondue. We were so taken aback by how dry, stale, and awful the bread was. We asked April if this is how it is supposed to be and she said that the restaurant serves the bread this way. It felt like in order to enjoy the fondue, you must order the pretzel bun for an additional 9 dollars as an add on because how awful the bread that comes with the fondue was. Gonna be really honest, the fondue was good. The food that you cook on the rocks were pedestrian and more a hype than anything. I was debating on writing this review, as when the situation happened, I was having a rough day. But, I've decided it's best to shed a light on this situation than to let it go. For my graduation from nursing school, I decided to go with my family to Rok N Fondue for dinner. This is probably my 7-8 time visiting the restaurant. And while service can be slow, it's been an overall good experience thus far. The waiter sat us immediately at a table and the waiter gave us the menus. We ordered two pots of fondue, both being Rok N Cheddar. Since our table had two burners, they were heating up simultaneously. One burner however was not working properly. I notified the waiter of this and he proceeded to just add more cheese to the pot, which made it chunky and unmelted. I asked them if he could get us a new fondue or heat it on another burner, and he assured us it will "warm up." Well gasp, that didn't happen and we were left with a gloppy chunk of cheese that was borderline inedible. The other fondue was perfect though. Now for the main courses. I ordered the tiger shrimp. The menu states CLEARLY "1 pound". Well, when my waiter came back with my dish, there were FIVE SMALL SHRIMP on my plate. I immediately notified him, as this had to have been a mistake. He immediately said "let me go fix this", clearly seeing that I was being shortchanged by quite a bit. I was fine waiting, no big deal. Well, when the waiter came back, he said "actually that's one pound, I watched the guy weigh it." I then immediately told them there was no way, and he argued with me saying "well that's the way it is." I ended up actually leaving the restaurant at this point, as I was getting nowhere with the waiter. My family ended up speaking with the manager about this, and after a HUGE amount of back and forth, they refunded my meal. Unfortunately, this is how I'll remember my graduation dinner forever. The treatment I received was unacceptable, so much so that it affected me personally. I added pictures of me weighing shrimp, PLENTY MORE THAN FIVE and... big surprise!!! It's ONLY 7 OUNCES FOR ALL OF WHATS PICTURED, which is many more than 5!!! And those were the sizes that they served me. They also have the shell on and were raw, another point the waiter wanted to throw in my face to make their egregious error acceptable. Please, do not order the shrimp from this establishment. Better yet, don't go. They will be sure to short change you and treat you like you're a moron. I was appalled at the service, and will never be returning to the establishment again. read more

Made a reservation for 6:15p on a Friday evening. Arrived at 6:00 to check-in. Had a seat at the bar to have a drink. The bartenders were super friendly and quick to bring drinks. By 6:15 our party was being seated. Our waitress was warm and bubbly. We mentioned that this was our first visit and she kindly explained exactly the menu and the difference between the rok and fondue - which we appreciated. Ordered the medallions, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The presentation of the food was great. Getting to cook the steak on the rok was pretty fun. We've wanted to eat there for a while, booked a table for 4 and 2 hrs before the reservation they called to tell us "we have no meat entrees tonight". ? I was really disappointed with our experience at Rok N Fondue, especially because it was for my birthday and somewhere I used to enjoy. We arrived right at opening at 5:00 pm and were told there would be a 30-minute wait because there was only one waiter working. It felt strange to be told that immediately upon opening, almost like the restaurant was caught off guard by its own hours. I do want to say that every single person who helped us was genuinely kind and clearly trying their best. The issue wasn't the staff , it was the overall operation. We ordered the cheddar fondue and were honestly shocked by what was served. It came with a small handful of sad shredded cheese, about a quarter of a carrot, one stalk of celery, eight stale chips, four tiny half-moon pieces of bread, and some cold sausage with odd pickles. It was not appetizing or worth the price. I also ordered an eggnog, and with the fondue, a Coke, and the drink, our bill was over $70 , which felt completely unreasonable for both the quantity and quality of food. Because service was taking so long, we had to cancel our chocolate fondue order altogether. For a birthday dinner, that was especially disappointing. I came to this place a few years ago and was turned away due to not having a reservation. I made a reservation this time, but once I got there, half way through the day it was empty. We were here for our daughter's birthday as she requested fondue (we usually go to Melting Pot). We decided to try this place because it was closer. I asked if they had any fun mocktails for the 11 year old birthday girl. 'No. Not really.' I hate to compare but Melting Pot has some fun drinks for the kids. We asked how the menu worked as we were used to Melting Pots which was super user friendly and easy to understand. They even provide you with suggested cooking times for items in the broth. We got zero guidance here. Tried to order sliders off the menu for my son and were told they are unable to make them because they are not able to use their stove at all due to ventilation issues and the city is no longer allowing them to use the stove. It would be helpful if you can update your menu to reflect items not available. Ordered chicken entree in place of sliders and it came out extremely thick so we had to cut it thinner so it would actually cook on the hot stone. Dessert was good. Service was so so and slow. I'd suggest getting some lively and friendly servers/bartenders. Just came to this spot for the first time a few days ago for some dinner out with friends. Located in downtown Redlands, the restaurant itself is small but has 2 floors for seating as well as a spacious bar. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated promptly! Up first, we ordered drinks. I ordered the lavender vanilla martini and would definitely get this drink again! It was beautifully made and tasted amazing! My only gripe was that when I got my drink, the glass was dirty and had some lip marks on the rim. I notified my server and the drink was promptly remade and the bartender came over to apologize. Our first order of fondue was the sun dried formaggio and it tasted delicious! The server mixed and prepared everything at our table and came by periodically to keep mixing to ensure that everything combined well. I was personally a fan of this with the green apple pieces. Our second order was the zesty jalapeño cheddar. While it was still great from a flavor standpoint, it didn't really come together too well and stayed a bit chunky. However, we didn't really see this as an issue since everything tasted great! For dessert, we ordered the bananas foster chocolate fondue and this was delicious! So it's been a little bit since we have been here and I have to ask, what happened? This place is known for serving steak on a hot rock (Rok) so you can basically cook your food to your desired temp. Well, we started off great...I had made a reservation for 6:30 and they started seating us by 6:35 (nice!). We figured we had time to eat and then do some shopping in Downtown Redlands. Well, things went downhill pretty fast. The server took a while to get us started, but we just figured it was busy. We were going to all order the steak on a rock, but the server told us they could not serve the rocks due to some issues they were having. (That was the whole reason we came so- minus 2 stars!!) We were told that they would do the cooking for us and serve it on the rock so we went ahead and ordered an appetizer, salads, and the prime steak and filet medallions. The server came back and told us they were out of the prime steaks so we would have to order something different ...(minus another star). And then we waited...and waited. It took 1.5 hours to get our salads and appetizer. (Minus another star, we are at 1 star if you aren't counting). Then took another 1/2 hour to get our food. 2 hours in to get our food - ugh!! (Can't minus anymore stars) Well, when the food finally arrived, it DID taste very good, but hard to enjoy when you were hungry 2 hours ago. (But we can put back 1 star) I am usually hyping up where we eat, and maybe we just got an unusually horrible evening, so I can't speak to the normal experience. This is just my experience tonight. The cheese melted and immediately turned to a cement block. We ordered an appetizer cheese fondue and the sausage served was ice cold. Eek this was bad. We come here often but have not been since last NYE. Last year the place was decked out in decor, the bar was hopping, everything was vibrant. Going in tonight just felt sad. Our poor server was sweating running around trying to tend so many tables. Our entrees took over an hour to come out, and they all came out at different times. At the 1 hour mark my husband said let's give them 15 more minutes, then we'll pay for our drinks then go. My daughter's food was a store bought tortellini covered in jar spaghetti sauce that came out way before everything else. In addition, they didn't have enough menus to pass out, which was fine since we come often. But most of the stuff we tried to order they said they were out of. No pretzel for the fondue, no sodas, draft beer taps were empty, kids meals no longer available, some of the meat on the menu also not available...maybe create a new menu if what you do have...server was very nice, but stretched much too thin. The Lava Rok steaks are incredible. Good service in general. The negatives are that it's very expensive and we actually had some sort of extension cord/ power strip under the table by my feet which I felt kind of cheapened the experience for which I was paying hundreds of dollars. read more

This was actually our first time at Rok N Fondue and we enjoyed it. Bartender Ivan made GREAT drinks and I would absolutely go sit at the bar for their amazing happy hour. Our server (Jacob I believe?) was great and did a superb job of explaining everything to us as though we're children... which is what you need with that menu. We loved everything cooked on the lava rock, and decided we don't really like our food boiled in soup stock. No offense to the restaurant, we just like to keep things low sodium and WOW was it salty. It was by far the worst service we have ever had. Appetizers were forgotten, food was not good, chocolate fondue was burnt and last but not least was the extremely AWKWARD and horrible service. I got food poisoning from eating here on Friday, July 25th. I ordered the Caesar salad, and sent it back after a few bites because something didn't taste right. I'm not sure if the lettuce was bad or if hands weren't washed properly, but I became violently ill just a couple hours after eating there. It's been 2 days now, and I still have abdominal pain and bloating. The service was not great on Friday either. Our drinks took over 20 min to arrive, despite it not being busy. When my drink finally arrived, it was the wrong drink. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for them to fix it. When food arrived, they forgot to bring the sides that we asked for, like extra dressing, a water, and they didn't bring a knife for a steak. We never complained about any of it, and understand if people just have an "off" night. But the food poisoning really was the deal breaker, and when you spend so much money on a meal, you expect better service and to not get violently ill afterwards. read more

This is a perfect place for a date night. I really enjoyed everything especially the Sirloin steak 10/10 which was probably one of my favorite thing to get with the lava rock. I highly recommend ordering the chocolates fondue for dessert as it comes with apples, bananas, strawberries, pound cake, brownies, marshmallows and rice crispy treats which is delicious . This place was the best me and my fiance had been coming here for years but recently came back and let me tell you this was probably one of the worst visits and we won't be back. Our bartended /server was trying his best and was great not his fault. He had no help name is Kanye he was doing drinks and trying to handle food being brought out and ordered. Too much for one person chasing there to be delay in drinks and food. They also changed the menu, so I got the manhattan and it was just not the best, I miss the medallions on the rock. We went on a weekday and about 4 people at the bar. Idk if they are short staffed or what. Finally was able to order our drinks after like 20 minutes. When we asked the bartender for the vegan meatballs they said "We haven't had that for weeks" "They never delivered the order" "why would a vegan even want to eat at a fondue place?" Har har so funny. Why do you have vegan options on your site and a sign outside with something you've been out of stock for "weeks." Just sounds like vegans aren't welcome so idk why they even offer anything. And idk have you not heard of The melting pot who has a full vegan menu? Guess y'all don't want our business and that's fine with me. This is why we don't like eating at certain non vegan places because of the way you treat us. I can just go across the street to The state which has amazing vegan options and very polite staff. The place is nice, drinks ok. I liked the huge bar top at the entrance and the music was nice but the service wasn't good. Y'all should work on that. read more

The first time I went there a few years ago, I loved it. The steak was good luckily because it was VERY expensive. Everything else was less than mediocre. 5 people cost $400 and one couple split their meal. Won't be going back. read more

Unfortunately with the new owners the restaurant is totally different, minimized menu, no moonshine or favorite drinks. Even the beers are limited now. Bummed as this was a favorite for us to come, but not likely going to return. It's the experience and the aroma that makes Rok N Fondue rock. The front door was open, the vibe of the music drew us in and the scene was set with the illuminated bar. Yet, on the second floor the music becomes softer and the vibe slower. Even though you cook it yourself, it's a nice treat to have everything cut and prepared for you. AND better yet, they wash the dishes! You can see from my pics the center hot plate is super hot. Our server was very informative with options and patient with my questions. We started with the Sun Dried Formaggio fondue. This is your basic cheese (fontina, Havarti and shaved parmesan cheeses) fondue. It has a beer base with sun dried tomatoes, garlic (to taste) and house made basil pesto. It took moments to melt and meld together. There were more than enough bread pieces, apples and veggies for dipping. The cheese was pleasantly tangy and great garlic. The sun dried tomatoes added a nice chew to the goo, and a spike of flavor. We also shared the Rok Entrée: Shrimp and Scallops. These came raw and were cooking on a hot stone (see pic - unfortunately I can give the incredible aroma but you can certainly see it). This came with 3 large scallops and 5 medium shrimp. These don't come seasoned but they come with 3 sauces and merlot butter (see pic). The sauces added a nice variety and we used the merlot butter on the rock for cooking and aroma. It comes with 2 sides; we choose the string beans with bacon and loaded mashed potatoes. The food, the service everything was amazing! They were a very accommodating with everything very nice very great service! Our food may have taken a little bit longer than expected, but they totally made up for that and when I got my birthday dessert, they give us all champagne and the cheesecake which was totally amazing!
