Not enforcing mask wearing in any way, and probably only about 10% of the people there were wearing one. It's really crowded and really uncomfortably hot. It's very dirty and outdated (no, not in a cute retro way). Maybe it's different on the adults-only nights (although doesn't seem like it according to other reviews) but it's basically impossible for an adult to really skate here because there are so many kids just cutting across the rink without looking or going the wrong way. I understand that hours may be limited due to staffing or something, but they need to be open way longer for public skating. This would help make it less crowded too. I would consider going back- but I'll probably just rent the place out for a kids birthday. read more

Birthday parties here have always been enjoyed by guests and the hosting families have always been pleased. I know this because I'm nosy and ask. The floor does get crowded, especially during peak days/times (weekends and when schools are out). Occasional collisions happen but for the most part it all works out fine. If your kid gets injured it will most likely be due to them "learning the ropes" on skates (bruised backsides and wrists). Typical junky items at the snack bar. We often get the nachos with a side of jalepeños for an extra 75¢, the serving size is plentiful enough for me to snack on with the kids. Also the nachoes are one of the only items you will get quickly, everything else (hot) takes a very long time. Skating for two with rental comes to $24 Today with two little ones skating and a trip to the snack bar we dropped $40 total. We stayed for about an hour and a half. Worth it? Yes and no. If they both skated the entire time it would have been worth it to me but only one skated the entire time. read more

I went here on a Wednesday. I was unaware that it was "Jesus's night." There was nothing of the website or flyers out side. They Played a game to were my understanding it was four corners but Jesus style, if your corner number was called you go into the middle, and everyone in the middle has "found light" and the people not in the middle haven't found it yet. We had our daughter's 13th birthday party here. Very smooth from booking to end. Our hostess was super fun, Scottie. She has a great personality and always smiles. I honestly thought our hostess would be tired and grouchy by the time our party room began, but she proved me wrong. Just the opposite! Send her a "high five THANK YOU". But if at all a 21 + night arises we will be there. HUGE COMPLAINT INHAVE IS THAT the fact they charge for song requests!. How do you review a place that is primarily for fun and entertainment? Well, you don't really since there's not many services that they need to offer. Since we didn't have a party here, I'm only reviewing how our night went when we decided to come here on a whim because we wanted to do something different than our normal sushi dinner dates with cocktails. I came here with a few of my best gal pals and it was so much fun. First things first, there's a ton of parking. Although, beware of where you're going since there are signs of where to enter and exit and it gets a bit confusing especially if you aren't sure where the front door is. Tons of parking is a plus though in my book. Also, when you get through the front door, there are line barriers (iron ones, kind of like at an amusement park except they aren't belts or double tiered so you can sit on them, they are like wrought iron gates that flow through so you stand in line and it separates from you from the people leaving the place. Okay, back to business, when you get to the cashier, you either tell him/her you need to rent skates or that you brought your own. The prices are different, bringing your own is obviously cheaper. Just a quick tip in case you own your own skates. I have roller blades but decided against bringing them since it's been awhile since I last skated. So onto renting roller skates. There's a separate area to rent the skates. The person at the counter asks for your size. There were no half sizes so I went up a size. Good thing I did. Those things are super snug. My other friend brought her skates and needed to get them adjusted. There's a separate area for that too. They helped her out pretty quickly and then sent her on her merry way. Love the efficiency. There are lockers to store your stuff. Bring quarters. Although, if you have a few dollars, there are machines that can give you quarters. Plus, there were a few arcade games so it's for that too. The lockers are the same sort of lockers you find at the amusement parks so it's nothing fancy. Be sure to follow the instructions on the inside of the door of the lockers so you can properly lock your lockers. There were so many lost faces of teens. I had to help them out without making them feel like total losers, which they weren't, I just didn't want to make them feel that way. Anyway, after getting ourselves settled - putting our stuff in lockers and of course taking pics, we were on our way to go skating. I always thought that if you knew how to skate once, it was like riding a bike and you always remember how to skate. Well, not for me since I was stiff as a bored and scared out of my mind of falling and hurting myself. I broke my ankle and my leg a couple of years ago so I'm hesitate to re-hurt myself again or try anything that will cause me to break, hence, my stiffness when roller skating. I mean, I did go around a couple of times. I got super heated since it truly is a workout. Thank good for super strong AC. Yes! I had to keep stopping, not only because I was slower than a grandma on the freeway, but because I was dripping sweat. I had fun despite being stiff and as slow as molasses. I think I need a refresher course or maybe one of those helper thingies to help you stand and skate that they offer the kids. Is there an adult one or at least a little taller than the kid one? I'm only 5'0". There's a snack bar but they ran out of food pretty quick. Plus, their prices are a bit steep. You'd be better off going out to eat before or after you get here. Sorry guys you can't bring food in here. They need to make their money somehow. We ended up getting some icees. It cooled us off for a bit so that was good. Smelling the food did make me hungry again even though we had dinner before we arrived. It's a good thing we made plans to go somewhere else after we were done skating. My only gripe about this place is the lights going on and off. I guess it's a 20 minute on and then 20 minutes off. The music was cool, mainly old school (at least for my age range) but truly old, old school for the kids that were there. The music kept things alive. They stopped the free skate multiple times for the games portions of the night. It was fun to people watch. I'll be back. This place is a no frills place. Kids have their birthday parties there. There were even teens having their parties there and all the kids looked like they were having fun. We took pictures for them since we were nearby. Overall, it was a fun night. Overall had a great first experience, the parking lot was full and the line was pretty long out the door, yet we were inside and putting on our skates in about 10 minutes. The place was CROWDED on "Three Buck Thursday" night, so be prepared to bump elbows. Even still we were able to jump on the track and keep a small safety bubble around us. People were falling left and right but for the most part it was a fun experience. I was there yesterday afternoon with my kids, and we were sitting by the snack bar. I over heard a few employees arguing in the snack bar area, which looked to be a young girl and an older gentleman, possibly a manager. There was some profanity thrown around, and I was very disappointed to hear this kind of stuff happening in a family environment with lots of young children around. I love bringing my kids here on the weekends, but something needs to be changed. Went skating with the family. They had a great time. Kids loved the music and playing w friends. There was just one issue. A teenager skating at the kids skate time and she was cutting people off skating fast and had a horrible attitude. Staff did not manage the problem until there were several complaints. The teenage girl was asked to slow down by several parents and I wasn't until a mom was knocked down and hurt that the Manager stepped in. I appreciate they talked w her and got her off the rink at least for some cool down time. Let's keep this a safe family place! read more

It brings back memories coming here. My daughters school does fundraising here, so we always come. Fundraising, which is not every night, it was set through our schools Parent Teacher Club for this pokparticular night, starts at 6 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. It was $6 to roller skate and I think $8 to borrow roller blades...I might be wrong. It's been a while since I've roller bladed. They stamp your hand in the way in and then you go through the doors. First, you approach the skates. Get your size. My daughter is still working on her skating skills, so they do tighten the roller skates. (I don't remember that as a kid, we just skated!) It doesn't seem like anything inside has been updated in 20+ years. The carpet still looks the same. The set up is the same. DJ booth still in the same spot. Same material covering the walls that you skate along. Looks very clean! As much as it looks the same for all these years, it's been kept up. This place does need a serious update. The people that work here need to brighten up as well. No one smiles unless the employees are talking to each other. My daughter has a great time when she comes, but to be honest, I'm miserable watching the people who work here looking like they hate it. read more

Roller King is no stranger to Roseville. I am retired in my 50's and still have fond memories from Junior High in the late 70's. Roller king is a nostalgic time capsule of a time tested family tradition. One of the few classic roller skating venues left and truly run as a family style operation. Well staffed with young energetic employees, Public and private skating sessions are available at a reasonable cost. Skate and blade rentals make stopping by for a family outing or a date a no brainer. Modern lights and sound system for skating and intermissions of 'red light green light' and 'four corners' make it a delight for the young ones. Even the very youngest new skaters have a great time using training wheel walkers. They have an excellent system set up for birthday party packages which in my opinion is so much better than gaming and jumping venues in competition. A fair assortment of fast food snacks from the snack bar make any session complete. We started bringing our daughter here weekly and with a season pass which included free skates too own, Roller king is one of the best values out there. Man!!! Talk about a blast from the past!!! I totally LOVE this place! I grew up in the 80s & one of the spots I would frequent as a kid was Hammer Skate in Stockton (In Shape City & CVS is now in its place). When I say blast from the past, that's exactly how it is... stuck in the 80s. But that's what's so great about it! I literally thought I was back in 6th grade again! So... I loved the ambiance. I love how they have trainers (walkers with wheels!) for beginner skaters (for a price). I love that all ages were skating. I love how kid friendly this place is. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Personally, I can't say anything bad BUT... putting my precious childhood memories aside, I will point out a few things that maybe others might not appreciate. The ambiance: From the bathrooms with the coed sinks right outside, to the carpet & skates... it really is stuck in the 80s. It was a bit crowded... we were there on a Sunday afternoon for a bday party so we had our own assigned place but it was pretty much packed around the actual skating rink. I've been going to this rink ever since I was a child. Now having a kid in classes my eyes have been opened to a lot of issues. It's quite sad and petty actually. The children there will ALWAYS be second best to the owners or workers kids, so don't think even if your child is good they will go anywhere because your kids is not important. They're petty and tell children the business of the family members which then gets spread around. If a child who has been going there for years all the sudden has a dramatic family issue they will cut them off and treat them as they're disposable and not even try to work something out to help them. They don't care about the kids they only care about the dollar. It's very sad. I thought when kids are in sports they're always cared about and relationships are built but that's not the case with this place. The adults involve themselves in child drama and spread things that shouldnt spread. They also tell their kids that the other children are jealous of them. It's very sad to see adults acting so childish and petty. read more

This is a great skating rink they have a lot of newer skates so you don't have to worry about foot fungus from the 1930s they have a great music really cool lighting they even have a projector so you could see the music videos from the songs they playing in the bathrooms are a little tricky with skates on so if you're not good at skating you might want to take your shoes or should I say put your shoes on first they have places were you can get something to eat birthday and party rentals and the best part is my company through an event there and I finally got my daughter pictures with Santa Claus what a treat I also win the raffle and got an Apple Watch read more

Came for my nieces party and with every intention to have a good time with my kids. My son has autism and the manager was allowing another guest to act like my son was a burden. The one other guest kept glaring at my son, she even grabbed my son and his walker and tried telling him he can't be on the floor because he was walking with his crocs on the skating floor (which the manager allowed). After that We kept getting approached by the manager after she already told us it was fine because the one other guest kept making small complaints. I don't know how other people are raised but you do not go up to somebody else's kid to try and tell them what to do and for my son to be treated like he was the one putting people at risk towards the end??? I hadn't been roller skating in 25 years and it comes back to you just like riding a bike! This place was a lot of fun and brought back a lot of memories of going skating as a kid. I took my five-year-old and my 16 year old and they both had a good time, but we went on a Sunday afternoon and there were a bunch of small kids having birthday parties. So all of the skating assistance equipment was rented out and that made it really hard for the five-year-old to have a good time. I think next time we'll try to come on Saturday morning for the 9:30 lesson and snag one then. But everything else was great! read more

Roller King is a Roseville staple. I have been skating here since I was a kid and I love bringing my kid here. Such a fun nostalgic place.

We went on a Saturday night recently and it was a mess. The line to get into the rink did not move. We stood there (the rink was open) and stood there... Once inside (we have our own skates), we laced up and hit the floor. My wheels were absolutely filthy in no time. I had cleaned them prior to the session and couldn't believe how caked with dirt they were. I have skated at Roller King for decades, I've played countless derby bouts there and I've never had that happen. The carpet looked fairly new, so it had to be the floor. The water on the floor in front of the sink near the restrooms was excessive and skaters were falling because of it. I'm pretty sure one girl broke her tailbone. I knew it would be crowded on a Saturday evening, and that's fine. What wasn't fine was the fact that nobody had control of the rink. One mother, who wasn't stable on skates was on the skating floor, rolling around while carrying her baby. That would not have happened in the past, and I hate to think of what would've happened if she had fallen and dropped her baby. Several children were skating while holding hands, creating a clothesline that wasn't safe for other skaters, and when one girl went down, so did her friends. The "walkers" for kids who don't know how to skate are a great idea, but somebody should've taken the one away from the kid who could clearly skate well without one but twirled it all over the place, impeding others from safely skating past him. There were no employees/rink quards skating on the floor to keep things safe. I got in line at the snack bar to purchase a couple bottles of water, but stood there for 10 minutes while the girl behind the counter talked to the people ahead of me (they were the only other people on line). After 10 minutes my friend came looking for me, so I just gave up. What the heck has happened to your formerly amazing rink? I went to another rink in the area a few days later and couldn't believe the difference. Their floor was immaculate, their employees were friendly and efficient, no standing water near sinks, if people were behaving in an unsafe manner on the skating floor they were politely called out (seriously, in MANY years of skating I have never been to a rink that allowed someone to skate while carrying a baby). I'm hoping this reaches the right person, because I know you're better than this, Roller King. I left three stars because I didn't have the option to leave 2 1/2. I'm just hoping this was an off night for you. read more

Ok, as far as the kids are concerned, this is a fun birthday event. That's good for five stars. But I didn't expect much. We had to bring our own cake, they supplied punch, ice cream, and pizza, and skating fun. The problem? I expected frozen quality pizza, and actual punch flavor. Only the ice cream made the grade. The punch had almost no flavor. It was not much more than red colored sugar water, without enough sugar. The pizza?? Frozen grocery store pizza would have been a miraculous blessing from heaven. This stuff tasted like the garlic salt they accidentally spilled on it was being compensated for with sugar. The missing sugar from the punch?? I don't know. All I know is pizza is supposed to be savory, not sweet, and punch is supposed to be sweet (it was not) not tangy or bitter. Food? Zero stars for an average of three. Just barely three. I am not allowed to rate the food less than zero on a five point scale, but I would. So all in all, a three, but a very very low three. The food is inedible. I waited all day for pizza. We got stale bread with cheese substitute and pepperoni flavored sawdust. Attempting to be hidden by garlic salt and sugar. Come on really? Our 12 guests cost way more than if we had just taken them to a casual mid grade restaurant, and we had food left over because no one would eat more than one piece of pizza.
