First time here since I'm from FREMONT but my brothers been here in sac for about 10 yrs & his families first time also. 80's light rock music playing. -It's $10 to skate for all ages Which includes the ice skates. -NO skating time limit! Saw some figure skaters practicing before we got in & even after we left. -$2 locker rentals & mini snack bar. No hot items. Chips, soda. Cup o noodles. (Looks like you can bring in your own snacks ) Located in the industrial part of town, near the tram/train stations. Its open to the elements.. -porta potty only -bleacher seating and benches -small sectioned party areas -outdoor heaters & cool lights in the chilly evenings -Unsure if it's open when it rains. Or if it's year round. Since the is no roof. But has a tarps to cover top area. -Free parking lot behind building, drive through alley to gravel parking lot. -Cross streets Edge water /Del Paso It's a bit outdated but keeps cost low & we had lots of fun! I drove by this place for years thinking this business had died. Fortunately, I was wrong. It's alive! Alive and doing well. I heard a rumour, that they may enclose it and open year round. It sounds like a good plan for a fun family business. I was impressed with how many families were skating around having a good time, during my last visit. This is one of the couple ice skating rinks available in the Sacramento area. There's one in downtown but I'm not sure if that one is there all year round or only for the winter season. Iceland has been here for awhile. It used to be an indoor place, but after the fire incident that happened years ago, they kept it open without rebuilding the indoor structure. Now its an open-space ice rink, meaning there's no roof above the rink. They sell snacks and drinks, they have plenty of seating for those who don't want to skate or need a rest from skating, there's a huge heater to keep warm, and they have a tv for entertainment. The only tricky thing about this place is finding the parking. When I first came, I thought it was only street parking so I circled the area for 15 minutes trying to find parking because there wasn't any in range of the rink, and I wouldn't want to park somewhere far away from the rink at night. After I finally found parking and met up with my friends, they told me about the parking lot behind the rink. It's a little hidden because you have to make a turn into what looks like a neighborhood and then another turn into what looks like an alleyway but it's not. For anyone's first time, I recommend calling for directions to the parking lot. read more

My three friends and I got the Groupon deal, which made it incredibly cheap for us to come ice-skating (~$2 a person, including rentals and skating). Hours are 1pm-9pm, but since we all knew that there's no way our legs could handle 8 hours on the ice, we came in around 6pm on a Sunday, when it was already pitch black outside. When we navigated to the ice rink and parked out on the streets, our first thoughts were: holy crap, I hope we don't get shot/get our car jacked/get robbed/etc. The directions for the office pointed us down into a narrow, dark alley, and so we got even more nervous. Then, we heard Disney music blasting in the ice rink and saw a bunch of families and kids, so we felt a bit better and decided to stay to skate. Overall, the rink itself looks old (no ceiling, open doors everywhere, old old bleachers, etc.), was small (takes about 3 minutes to loop around once if you get the hang of ice skating), and the ice a bit more damaged/chunky than other indoor/newer rinks, but we had a great time in a family-friendly environment. Everything other than the slightly scary outside environment (we're from Davis!) and the older facility was great. read more

Came across this rink by chance and couldn't be happier about it! My 3 friends and I had the place to ourselves and it was a great time. It offers a view of the stars, fun music and a really amazing staff. Noah and Sophia were very kind, helpful and more than willing to show us some skating techniques, like skating backwards. Fantastic little retro rink. Used a yelp deal and for 7 bucks got two admissions and skate rentals. Was it a super smooth rink? Nope. Was it fancy? Nope. Was it fun. YES. It was. Old school music on the PA system, not too crowded and a great mix of people. Plus easy parking and no line. Which is how I found it. It's the holiday season. You see that rink downtown. You say "hey that'd be fun." And you go down. And there's one cashier and you wait 40 minutes only to be told you should really come back in about two hours because...they're out of skates in most sizes. So I yelped. I found Iceland and fifteen minutes later we were there and putting on skates. It was much much more friendly, far cheaper and I'd go back again in a heartbeat. They deserve your business. That poorly run tourist trap downtown does not. read more

May we have a moment of silence as we remember Iceland ice skating. It was three days ago when my g/f came over to me and told me that Iceland burned down at the end of this past March. At first I thought she meant the country, but I soon realized she was referring to the ice rink I used to frequent. I used to go here back in my college days for broom ball. Sure it was in a sketchy neighborhood, in a dated facility, the ice wasn't exactly well groomed like some of the ice rinks I used to play at and the bathroom wasn't exactly the cleanest. Still it was a really cheap outing (especially if you are on a college budget) Still in spite of these things I really liked this place, most likely because of the memories I had made back then. PRO'S: Cheap price, good location, extremely nice and helpful people, this place isn't too strict, have food and skates are comfortable. CON'S: It was a bit difficult to find parking, the lockers are extremely old and don't work. I had to leave my shoes out in the open and had to carry everything with me on the rink. My Experience: I had a fantastic experience. The employees and people to go here are really inviting. Random people were teaching me how to do little tricks. I first came here on a date and returned the very next day with my cousins because I loved it so much. Just be sure to bring gloves and THICK socks because my feet were frozen!!!!! This place is very charming, a bit rustic, but that gives it a little charm, and it drew a nice crowd when we were there yesterday with a total of 4 kids. It is way underpriced w/ $5 for unlimited skating all day and 25 cent lockers. I live in New York City, though am from here originally and I have to say the quality of ice was good, and comparable to many east coast ice rinks. The demographic of the crowd consisted of a mix of middle to upper middle class families, very nice, courteous and everybody seemed to be happy. I will give 5 stars when they finish their roof, and upgrade the facilities to have some decent snack and drink options. One other note, you will not notice that you are in a slightly rundown neighborhood, the parking is a private lot very visible from the front gate of the ice rink. The other reviews that mentioned it being a sketchy neighborhood are exaggerated. Would I want to live along Del Paso Blvd, no, but it's closer to the Woodlake neighborhood than DPB, and it does not feel the slightest bit dangerous being here. It's a non-issue. read more

Have been here once; will not be back. Parking lot is a sketchy backlot of mud and gravel. Young folks working front check-in had the attitude of the stereotypical spacey, apathetic teenager. The registration and waiver process is horrifically tedious and time consuming. There is no walk up, sign your name on a waiver, pay, get skates and go. They want like, blood type, horoscope sign, who your maternal great grandmother was, and whether you had coffee or juice for breakfast. I'm only slightly kidding. Seriously, for the 7 skaters in our party it took 20 minutes JUST ON PAPERWORK (via iPad). Speaking of iPads, that 20 minutes I lost of my life was made all the more maddening since a 10-ish year old child (owner's son?) behind that counter area had an iPad and was repeating over and over...and over..."I hate you, Siri!" and waiting for Siri to "respond" before saying it again. And again. I think at some point he changed the repetition to "Hey Siri...you're dumb." Okay, the kid has some angst. But really people, just not appropriate to let continue. Skates...some were newish, some were circa 1985. There's a small snack area with candy bars, soda, and water. Handy in a pinch. The rink itself is semi outdoors, which is nice, if its nice out. The music played in the rink was also very fun and family appropriate. Iceland is very, very run down though. Yes, they're still recovering from an arson fire, but some basic additional cosmetic attention would still be nice. Looking out through the missing roof and the derelict and burned front entrance, it felt like we were in some weird dystopian, post-apocalyptic movie. But here's the thing that really, really irked us about the whole experience: The owners (and their various family staffing the place or skating there) were SO darn rude! Just aggressively and unapologetically rude. Their younger son has a Siri hate problem; their teenage son is apparently an accomplished skater, but has no regard for the safety or inexperience of others. The owners have no concept of the "people" aspect of their business. Despite it being a busy Saturday evening, the teen son and his friends were out there speeding the rink with total disregard for small children on the ice, weaving in and out of the slipping, wobbly crowd of newbie skaters instead of sticking to the "off limits unless you're a pro" rink center. His dad, the owner, stood by approvingly. Their attitude is basically, "it's our rink, we can do what we want". If you're trying to recover your business from disaster, wouldn't you want people to return? Wouldn't you want them to refer other people to visit? Wouldn't you take pride in customer focus, and fixing problems MANY customers are frustrated with, since there is basically nothing else noteworthy in terms of your facility? At a minimum, wouldn't you care about safety? Well, the owner's teen son continued trick and speed skating through the crowd, and the 8- to 11-year-old girls in our group got sick of almost getting run over or having to awkwardly hustle to get out of his way and seeing the boy smirk when they fell. They finally started making comments and irritated looks at this kid. (Yeah, not a proud moment, but understandable) He huffed off to tattle to mom. Instead of seeking the responsible adults out (they knew who we were and walked right past us), these people approached the little girls in our group directly and verbally attacked them. Seriously..?! That was the last straw. We left. And won't be back, but it seems like both sides are happy about that. read more

Took my daughter & niece (& my sister too) to the season opener and I must say it was awesome!! We had a blast!! Really made my girl's night! I used to go here years ago. Back when they had a roof. Good times. Anyway, the place is still running and is fairly dilapidated looking (remember, no roof) but the owners are putting their heart and soul into this place and are slowly rebuilding it. This place is super cheap! Only $5 for unlimited skating all day! It's completely outdoors because the roof burnt down I think, but on a nice day it could be pretty nice. I visited the rink on a drizzley day and there was no one there but my friends and me, so we had the whole rink to ourselves!! That was fun because the rink isn't huge. The place isn't very exiting, no flashing lights, snack bar, or bathrooms (only porta-potties), but it's simple & offers everything you need for a day of skating. The ice could be a little smoother & the skates could be a little more comfy, but what do you expect for $5 rights? All in all, it's a great way to spend lots of hours for a little money. read more

I've enjoyed ice skating since I was very young and I've never been to an ice rink that was so poorly maintained and supervised. During the public sessions, the ice is often allowed to get extremely bumpy and unsafe; it needs to be Zamboni'ed more often. Worse, kids are allowed to do things that are never allowed at other ice rinks, such as skate the opposite direction of the majority of the crowd, sit on the ice for long periods of time when they fall, play tag, make long trains of skaters, crack the whip, etc. I've even seen kids throwing coins and Skittles on the ice to trip other skaters. There needs to be an ice monitor/skate guard on all public skating sessions. The kids' group skating lessons are also poorly run. There doesn't appear to be any set curriculum or set structure for levels and promotions. We also tried to arrange private skating lessons for one of our kids and were ghosted by two different instructions. With one instructor, Chris, we were texting back and forth to set up lessons for my child and he eventually just stopped responding. With another instructor, Melanie, we set up a private lesson and she simply never showed. I tried texting her several times to ask if we were going to reschedule the lesson and she never responded. We now skate at Skatetown in Roseville. It is a much more professionally run rink with safer conditions for public sessions and more well-run kids' lessons. I would recommend driving to Roseville for a much better experience. read more

Ok so its my first time ice skating or skating ever. I'm not gonna lie i got a little lost trying to find this place. the parking is in a little alley & I'm glad I found parking. any who, I purchase the yelp deal, $7 for two admissions and that comes with the skate rentals. My first impression of this place was what the??? like the other reviews, don't expect this place to be fancy. we got there around 2pm which was an hr after they opened. the place seemed a little crowded. there were a few lockers which i did not use. people laid their shoes out in the open. There are two portable bathrooms. the sitting area was a little small but I don't mind as long as I had a place to put on my skates.the staff was helpful and friendly. there are buckets available to those who need it to skate along the ice. I used the railing..lol. the songs that were playing were disney music. Pros: cheap price( u get what u pay for but better), great staff, skates were in okay shape. Cons: parking was a bit difficult, not many lockers, rink is a little small Overall: although the appearance could use a little more loving, my family had a fun time. i mean if you think about it i paid 3.50 per person with skate rentals , unlimited. that is pretty great. after I got use to the skating I could care less about what the place look like, the staff, people there, and skating experience made up for it all. One of a few ice-skating rinks in Sac -- took 10-year olds there for an afternoon of inexpensive fun! While it's in kinda sketchy part of town, it sits on a main road (Del Paso). Fine to park in a dirt lot in back. All told, it's $8 for a child under 13, and $2 for the skate rental. The ice is well kept, and the people running the rink seem to genuinely love ice skating. It's sorta like the ice-skating equivalent of Kings Skate for Roller skating. The facilities are older, but the you could a few hours of solid family fun for WAY less than the movies (plus the exercise factor is nice). read more

This was the first time my whole family had ever been ice skating from ages 4-49 years old. We had a blast! We held my daughters 8th BDay party on the side of the rink. I think this was her favorite party yet. The prices are descent. And the staff was so incredibly nice and helpful. And I believe most are volunteers. They are still recovering from arson but are coming along great. We had gone back 5 times since my daughters party this past December. We will all be returning. We also put my daughter in lessons before her party and she learned so much in just 4 classes. Her instructor was Hanna and she was so sweet, patient, and knowledgable. Thank you!! read more

At first I thought the place looked weird with the tarps but when we got inside it wasnt bad at all. Everyone that were ice skating and even the workers were all so sweet and helpful!!! They taught me how to ice skate because I came here not knowing what to do at all. When it got dark they took the down the tarps and all the pretty lights turned on! Music was really good too! One word to describe this place = satisfactory. It is an ice rink where you can rent skates. That's a standard. But as an ice skater (I used to do speed skating), this place is a dump. Ice quality is so crappy (very bumpy), the facilities are older than my grandparents, and rental skates are one of the worst quality ones I've seen. Not the best place to skate, but they have the basics. Good, family-friendly place, but I wouldn't go if I were an athlete. The rink is also very small, so it could get crowded at times. read more

At first looking outside in, the place looks a little sketchy and we weren't sure how/where to park. there's plenty of parking right outside of the rink in front and across the street. The price to skate for as long as our hearts desire with the skate rentals included was great ! Super friendly staff and community. The only downside to our trip was that we left just before sundown when they opened up the tarps and let us view the beautiful night sky while skating. I would definitely come back and recommend anyone on the fence about this place to give it a shot and definitely go just before sunset . read more

I have never heard of this ice rink before but opted to go here instead of downtown to go ice skating because of the 7$ for 10$ deal. It's in a quiet neighborhood and parking is around the back. The rink is bigger than downtown and less crowded. The ice isn't the smoothest but it's bearable. They have lockers available to store away belongings. Although it doesn't have the nice scenery of the rink downtown, they do try with a xmas tree made of lights. There are several heaters located throughout to warm up my freezing hands along with little bleachers and some tables and benches to rest. read more

RETRO! This place is a little retro. But it was still fun. I went there on a winter day and they kept it cool inside. Great customer service though. They guy was trying to offer lesson/help to skate to the girls that I nanny for. The skates are a little old and so is the rink. But they play great music and it is a decent size spot. Not a lot of people go to it which is nice to be able to skate without running into people. They play pretty up to date music as well. I didn't go to the snack area...it seemed a little small. This was the perfect Dec birthday party for my 7 y/o daughter! Our party of 14 kids and their parents enjoyed the fresh winter air, holiday music and laughter as we learned to skate. The rink and staff were great! They provided buckets to help the kids stay on their feet, brought an extra table for our party and were overall very friendly! Yes there are opportunities for improvement: no shelter and has port-a potty bathrooms, But.. It is an old facility and still recovering from the fire so it didn't matter to me. We all had a great time! The kids didn't want to get off the ice! We brought light snacks and a carafe of hot cocoa and coffee which helped pull together the "outdoorsy" winter theme for our party. Several kids, including mine, asked to come back the next day. We will definitely be back. By far is was the most memorable birthday party we've had. Thank you Iceland! read more

For the price, 5 STARS, Easy! Took my 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old niece last weekend and they had a blast. Staff was great in getting the girls comfortable. We bought some pizza nearby and it allowed us to stay until closing. There's a certain charm about the place, and while the building is old and is still under construction, it's still a place you can take seriously. Where else can you go ice skating in Sacramento in March? This place is not the most elegant rink you'll go to, and I'm no ice rink connosieur but my family had a good time. The staff put buckets down for the kids so the parents don't have to skate and drag their kids the whole time. The buckets help the kids skate with minimal assistance.
