We tried this restaurant for the first time on Friday night and we were very impressed with both the service and the food! Our water was refilled frequently, plates were taken immediately upon finishing, and more bread was generously given throughout our dinner. To top it off, the bar tender even cut up some oranges for my 1 year old son (who was dramatically pointing at them from across the room. He loves oranges lol). I think his name was Mark. I came for the first time because of the good reviews. The service was good. I ordered a risotto and a mixed green salad. The salad is fresh but had too much dressing. Our family went to this restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday. Our waiter was Matthew. My daughter has two small children, so I called and asked if it would be appropriate for them, and they said yes. When we got there the table was set for children as well as adults, and I felt it was extremely thoughtful to be prepared for us. Everything was DELICIOUS. Fried calamari and crabcakes for appetizers, we tried 3 different salads(all yummy), rack of lamb, gnocchi, and various other pasta dishes for the main dish. We all said whatever we had was the best dish! Oh I had the pork valdostana and it was FABULOUS! The sauce was fantastic! The prices were fair and the service was beyond adequate. Got takeout during the covid pandemic. Chose this place because they had opened recently and I wanted to support local restaurants. Ordered directly from the restaurant and they were polite and accommodating over the phone and in person since my family has several food allergies. Ordered the eggplant parm, linguine volgone and paella. All three dishes were excellent. Lots of seafood included with the entree. The meal came with bread and olive oil. In my opinion, the best tasting Italian restaurant in downtown Menlo Park. I will definitely go back for take out or dine in when the pandemic dies down. read more

Updating my review. Ended up having to go a second time and the service was TERRIBLE. Hostess was SO SO rude to us. She deserves to be fired. We booked a table of four for outside on OpenTable and they tried to seat our party of 4 (with one person being pregnant!!) at a table of two!! I kid you not. And this was the second time going here that they tried this. The first time we said "ok," this time we said "it's really not enough room for us" because... it was really not enough room. My husband and I stopped by Roma in March for a glass of wine. We sat at the bar and chatted with Rodil. We were so impressed with the vibe of the restaurant, Rodil's service, and friendliness that we decided that we would come back the next day for our anniversary lunch (44 years!). We so appreciated that Rodil served us again and we had a fabulous lunch! Both our meals were delicious and again, the service was excellent. It feels a bit "old school", meaning quiet and relaxed, a very pleasant place...you can actually hear your tablemate in conversation! The menu is extensive and original. Hard to decide. I had the Roma Linguine and it was perfectly cooked with luscious shrimp and scallops. Eight of us shared the large antipasto. It was huge and we all enjoyed it. Unfortunately our visit was marred by very poor service. When we asked for more bread for a table of eight, we were brought one small basket of four slices. We were never offered refills on our drinks. No one ever stopped by during the entire meal to see if we needed anything. If we needed some thing, we practically had to go find someone to provide service. It was very disappointing. If they improve their service, it would be a stand out restaurant in Menlo Park. They also took over 30 min to get our food out for lunch so give yourself plenty of time to waste before your first bite. Was a bummer since we had high hopes and I was taking a friend out for their bday. The only positive is the setting. Table linens and beautiful outdoor seating. Perhaps there are things on the menu that are good, just not the fettuccine. I almost sent it back but I didn't want to wait another 30 min for the meal. I was disappointed with the food at Roma . I adore Italian food, and seldom pass up gnocchi when I see it on a menu. This gnocchi was purported to be homemade, but it was tough, no better than I could prepare myself from a package at Trader Joe's. We really wanted to like the reopened Roma, a long-time favorite. But we were sorely disappointed in both dishes. I had chicken parmaesan, usually one of my favorite Italian dishes, but this version was less than mediocre. The sauce actually tasted burnt. My wife had eggplant parmesan, usually one of her favorite dishes, but it was so bad she ended up throwing out half of it. The four slices of bread were a joke...cheap white bread. I should say we ordered this on DoorDash, but since we live only blocks away, it was delivered right away, and still hot. So that's not an excuse. We will not be partaking of Roma's cuisine again.
