We happened upon this lovely delicatessen after receiving the recommendation from our Airbnb hosts in Black Mountain. We knew it was perfect and close by our destination stop, the Pinball Museum, and since there was a small wait it worked out perfectly. We both ordered deli sandwiches and really enjoyed our choices. Ingredients were fresh and price was definitely right for our wallets. We chose to sit outside- one, to enjoy the patio, and two, it could be a little loud during the peak hours of dining. We stopped in for a light late lunch after visiting the Basilica. Boy, were we glad we did! This deli is deli-cious! Fresh ingredients and fresh bread from a local bakery make for a most tasty sandwich! They must grill on a wavy press because the bread is PERFECT! Crispy but not too crispy and definitely not soggy. Did I mention they have 1/2 size sandwiches too? Perfect for a tide me over til dinner or anyone with a lighter appetite. To my mind, their club is not appreciably better than McAlister's, at fully half the price. For a quick, tasty, relatively inexpensive meal before a show or anything at US Cellular, this place was pretty solid. I don't normally like sammies, but this deli was not your average sammie shop. (1) THEY SELL ALCOHOL. (2) They have burgers. (3) All of the food I tried was very good, particularly the caprese sammie. They didn't get a 5 from me for one reason: I can't figure out if they forgot one of my friend's meals or maybe they overcooked her burger and had to recook it, but she was the first in a group of 5 to order and the last to get her food by a long shot. We were borderline hangry and waited for her to get her food. There was no explanation as to what happened to her burger (keep in mind the people in our group that ordered after her also ordered burgers and got them at least 5 min before her). Just "sorry", plate down, walked off. Also, people were still coming in after the 8pm closing time and just stood at the counter waiting for service they were never going to get. Somebody that wasn't us should probably be telling people they're closed. SUMMARY: If you're in downtown Asheville, this is a good place for some quick and tasty food! read more

They have sandwich options for everyone. I suggest the Garden Veggie Panini for vegetarians. The Pomegranate Goat Cheese Burger is the bomb for carnivores. For an interesting salad, you can't beat the Sesame Chicken Salad. Don't forget to get a glass of local beer or cider to enjoy with lunch. The only negative is parking. Parking can be tricky on the weekend. There is a parking garage behind the library. The first hour is free and is usually enough time for lunch at Roman's. read more

My wife and I ate lunch at Roman's today. I don't expect perfection but I was surprised how the restaurant corrected an under cooked burger. I ordered the Mac Burger for dine-in asking for meat to be medium-well which is how the menu describes the preparation. The sandwich arrived on time with good presentation. Upon taking a second bite I realized the beef was cold and fleshy pink throughout the middle of the meat. I took my plate back to the counter asking the wait staff to please make me another burger medium-well. The same sandwich was delivered back to our table after additional cooking. I considered returning the recooked sandwich but my wife was nearly done with her food. Once served and sampled by a customer, the food should not be refurbished or handled by the kitchen due to any chance of cross contamination. This restaurant does not use good procedures for handling this type of complaint. The restaurant was not not busy at the time due to road construction. read more

We stopped here on Saurday afternoon after the Southern Highlands Craft show. We wil start off by saying the two young ladies behind the counter were very nice, especially the llittle blonde girl who took our order. She would get 5 stars, BUT regretfully we could not give 5 stars to the food. My Husband ordered the greek salad with Chicken. Way too much dressing on the salad..it was smothered. Dressing is supposed to enchance the food not kill it. The chicken strips were dry and nasty. The coffee was very mediocre. I had grilled veggies on a whole wheat roll/bun. The roll was doughy and clung to the roof of my mouth , but the veggies were grilled nicely and those I enjoyed. We had a tropical coleslaw which we both loved. Paper plates and plastic knives and forks do not go down too well in a restaurant right in the heart of downtown. That is okay for Macdonalds or burger king. $10 each can buy you a real nice lunch and a great cup of coffee in several other places around town and you get real cutlery. Popped over for lunch after a day at the library. How did I not know this was here for so long? I had a bowl of White Chicken Chili and half a Turkey Cranberry and Pesto panini. I love a good sandwich and these are not too bready or too meaty. Well balanced and flavorful. Price is very reasonable for fresh, quality ingredients. Bonus - they have ice cream here from The Hop! It was a bit frozen, but thawed out nicely. It's open, clean and in a good location. Just swing right when you leave the library and you can see it on the sidewalk. YUMM I love this place!!! It's a great place to grab lunch. We asked the locals where to go for lunch and they recommended this spot. My boyfriend and I both got sandwiches with a side of pasta salad and potato salad! It was fresh and quick there is not a lot of outdoor seating so we did have to wait to get a table outside.
