Haven't been to Rombauer in years. Felt they were getting a little to uppity for me. Girlfriend wanted to go for her birthday week, so of course I took here. Boy has this place changed for the better. The grounds are beautiful as always. We had Kevin as our pourer and he was amazing. Funny and very, very knowledgeable. He not only knew a lot about Rombauer but also wines in general and AVAs. We will definitely be back. I guess if I had one minor complaint.....they were out of a lot of their wines. read more

First time here with my girls. My friend made a reservation for six people and I didn't know that they planned this for me as my pre-birthday celebration. That's so sweet of them. The place and area was reasonably nice. Clean. Staff are pleasant and nice! They are not that huge but really have nice views. They only have it outdoor since they are still observing strict protocols in regards to the pandemic. It was gloomy and raining for a little bit on our way there and until midway when we're doing our wine-tasting. So Thankful that it stopped and weather turned really nice and amazing! Sun came out so we stayed a little longer. Since they don't serve any food at all, everyone is allowed to bring food from outside. I made and brought a small tray of charcuterie with us and everybody enjoyed it. It matched with our wine tasting and finished up another 3 bottles of wine lol. They have some spots and areas with bench and table where you can hang around so it's like you're having a picnic. Enjoying your wine with an amazing and relaxing view. The view from this property is so serene. I love that you can visit this winery and enjoy wine by the glass w/o reservations. We called the day of and they just so happened to have availability for a guided tasting. My partner and I both did the classic tasting: Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel. The check-in process was done at the front after you leave your car with valet. We arrived early, but our table was not ready until 10 mins past our appt time. Our wine educator was friendly, funny, and full of knowledge. We were provided with blankets to keep warm, and our wine educator even took photos of my partner and I. These little things really made the experience that much better!!! As for the wine, I really enjoyed tasting the infamous Chardonnay. This was the butteriest chardonnay I've ever tasted. At $20 a tasting this place is priced on the lower end for a Napa winery. My tasting fee was waived for being a military member/first responder, how awesome!!! I would totally recommend Rombauer, and I will be back. read more

A surprising hidden gem of the Napa Valley. We've enjoyed the wine many times and driven by the vineyard hundreds of times and never visited. We recently decided to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We'd recommend skipping the tasting and just enjoying wine by the glass or bottle outside in the garden area. You can pack a picnic and enjoy the incredible views. This is a gorgeous spot to spend a couple of hours with friends. We had a wonderful time at Rombauer! Initially, I made a reservation for a tasting and a "wines by the glass" patio table. A few days before our reservation, new COVID-19 guidelines were released and all indoor tastings were cancelled. Rombauer called to notify me about the tasting cancellation, but told me that we could still come for our table reservation and purchase a glass or bottle to enjoy on their patio. So many wineries charge a fee for a reserved table, but Rombauer does not! When we arrived, they had our reservation and explained to us where we could sit. Our table was shaded and we had a beautiful view of the gardens. We packed a picnic and enjoyed a refreshing bottle of their 2018 Carneros Chardonnay. Karl brought us cold water bottles, as well as a tasting of a high-end Cab and Chardonnay. We ended up buying a bottle of the 2018 Proprietor Selection Chardonnay to take home with us. I was not expecting this level of customer service! Highly recommend going to Rombauer during your next Napa getaway! COVID-19 response: All staff were wearing masks and tables were spread far apart from each other. We brought our own clorox wipes and hand sanitizer to be safe, but observed the staff thoroughly sanitizing tables after each guest left. read more

Gorgeous view. Beautiful grounds. Amazing customer service. Delicious wines. This place has it all. It's become my favorite winery...period. I love that one may either make reservations to wine taste, or simply stop by to purchase a glass of wine, or a bottle, and enjoy Rombauer's mouthwatering wine from their porch with one of the most beautiful views in St. Helena/Napa area. Don't forget to take a stroll around their beautiful gardens, as they cannot be missed! My favorite wine here are--keep in mind that I love buttery Chardonnays and full-bodied, fruit-forward wine (not sweet wines)--Carneros Chardonnay, Rombauer Zinfandel, and Proprietor Zinfandel. I do have to say that after the third time of visiting Rombauer, it just made sense to become a Wine Club Member (with my beau). First winery visited of the New Year 2018, 9th overall of our Napa stay. I know this won't be the norm for 99% of the people visiting this winery but it's my story so you may or may not want to keep on reading: I have a friend, Dr. Carlos Wolf, who is a friend of Mr. K.R Rombauer III. So we were very well recommended to him for a personal and private tasting with K.R himself. We were set for 10:30AM but since this was New Year's Day we couldn't make it on time, no problem. We arrived around 11:15AM, we entered the tasting room and there he was. A couple was there too which was unexpected but made it more fun since we were able to chat and share opinions. One quick conclusion, If you want to save time and go for the good stuff just pick anything you like that says "Proprietor Selection", whether it's a Chardonnay, Cabernet, or Zinfandel when they mark it as Proprietor Selection its the real good stuff that goes into that bottle! Obviously taste matters and this is a very subjective and individual thing. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to wine & food. We ended up buying the 2016 Proprietor Selection Chard, and 2007 Diamond Selection Cabernet. We had our next appointment at Alpha Omega in just 30 minutes, so K.R rushed us out to go and eat something, he gave us the address to the closest place on the way and didn't charge us anything, he said "I will call you when you get home to settle up" and to this day, I'm still waiting to pay, I have called him, texted him and it seems he doesn't want to charge - I may have to take off a few stars for this bad costumer services!!! ;-) Obviously kidding, haha! Rombauer has become a Bockhorst Family Favorite! We had the best wine tasting with Karl and Katie on May 8, 2022. We started the day in the tasting room and finished with with a birthday toast in the caves! It was a special weekend celebrating both of my daughter's birthdays and mother's day. Both Katie and Karl were fantastic hosts and super knowledgable about the wine and Rombauer. This was our third time visiting Karl C since July 2021 and we are already counting down the days until our next trip. He is always happy to see us and have us taste something new! I absolutely love Rombauer. So much so, I am a wine club member here and find every excuse to do a wine pickup with my crew just to sip and sit in the amazing views every few months. The staff here is great and the wine is some of the best in the Napa Valley and maybe even the US. It's award winning Chardonnay is a hit at my dinner parties and the jammy El Dorado Zin is my favorite. I LOVE it's berries and vanilla smell but the taste of it is worth every penny. I look forward to visiting soon and saying hello to the staff that has turned into friends very soon while also taking a deep breath in the sun with the view it has and thanking the lord for such beauty in the Napa Valley. My wife and I have been fans of Rombauer for years. Fun to go to the Vineyard. Our host Kari was special. She recognized that we had upscale tastes of the regular Rombauer wines. So she brought out the higher end wines for us to taste. And of course we bought several bottles. Cool to discover the late Mr. Rombauer was a pilot. Wish I had had the opportunity to meet the man. I didn't have wine but my companions did. It's a pretty little winery with a beautiful view. The five stars are for the kindness of the staff. The young man manning the tent at the entrance helped me with my heavy cargo. Then Dan came running to lift it to the back of the SUV. He gave me a hug and said "God bless you." Amazing view of the valley below when we were seated by the bar top area outside! Our server was so helpful, informative, and went above and beyond when it came to service. When we asked about a food menu because all the wineries we toured before didn't have any, he apologized that they didn't offer food as well. Charrrrddooonnaaaaayyyyy me please!!! I ended up joining the wine club at Rombauer about a year ago because of the Chardonnay as well as surprisingly enjoying some of the reds (mainly the Zinfendel). The grounds are beautiful, first come first service for the picnic benches and pet friendly. During Covid, you do need to make a reservation and park your car yourself (pre-covid was valet only). My husband and a couple of friends came her last weekend to pick up my wine club order and enjoy a couple of glasses (included with membership), however, they comped us a whole bottle to enjoy while we were there. read more

When I was picking out wineries to visit on my Napa trip I wasn't too sure about coming here. A $25 tasting when everyone else has $50+ tastings? Some other wineries charge $25 just to bring a child along (I'm looking at you, Robert Mondavi). The wine can't be good if the tasting is so cheap, right? WRONG. This place is great. Great view, good wine, and our wine educator was top notch. He was probably the most knowledgeable and friendly wine educator out of all the 9 wineries I visited this trip. He even gave us a recommendation for dinner which proved to be great (go to Brasswood, the food is delicious). The wine itself is very "traditional" California wine. Big buttery Chardonnay? Check. Super fruit forward and 16% alcohol Zinfandel? Check. Typical Napa Cab? Check. Some Rombauer wines are "higher end supermarket wines" which doesn't sound good but I ended up liking more of their wines than expected (especially from the $40 reserve tasting). I never really expected to be bringing home bottles of Zinfandel from a Napa visit, but that's what happened. They have some good and reasonably priced wines. I'll definitely be coming back the next time I make it to Napa. Not to mention they are kid-friendly too! read more

For the last decade, I've stopped exploring Napa Wineries and have been exploring other Norcal wine regions instead. However, my girlfriend is a member here and has gifted me a few bottles and I've really enjoyed their wines. I refused to extend a business trip in NYC and flew back for a Saturday tasting here! #priorities It was a beautiful day and the grounds are lovely. Albeit it was still a bit crowded for my taste. We did our tasting with Garrick who was sweet, professional and incredibly knowledgeable about wine. I've found myself surrounded lately by a lot of pretentious people so it was refreshing that this was an afternoon with girlfriends in such a beautiful but down to earth space. They have labels that they distribute and labels that are winery purchases only. I'm currently shopping for stocking my fridge with whites b/c I'm ready for summer ... and the chardonnay (which they are famous for) and the sauvignon blanc did not disappoint! read more

My boyfriend and I had a great time at Rombauer! It's the perfect place to spend a sunny Saturday. The ground ms are beautiful. The tasting room is a little eh in my opinion (small, cramped, and indoors) so I recommend you just sit outside and order by the glass or bottle (obviously have to start with the Chardonnay). They have a little window where you can order outside and then either sit outside or walk around the grounds. No reservation needed if ordering by the glass. There are plenty picnic tables and a bar type seating area that overlooks the hills. We showed up right when they opened so we're able to snag a great table outside, however when we left a few hours later it seemed most of the outdoor seating was taken. If coming with a group I would plan to get there on the earlier side. You can also bring your own food to enjoy, so we brought our own picnic. TLDR: sit outside, order by the glass, bring your own picnic, and you are set for the afternoon! read more

First time here but their Chardonnay has been my favorite for years. Tasing is by appointment only and $20 pp unless you buy 3 bottles each and then they waive the fee. Our host was awesome and very informative. He was very patient and answered all of our questions. The only thing we didn't like is they were a bit stingy. For example, they gave us each a different Chardonnay and had us share each pour. Overall we had a really good time and we'd definitely come back but next time with snacks. We had a 2 hour drive to get there and we were starving! They don't sell food but they have tables outside where you can picnic and the grounds are beautiful. read more

This is literally my favorite wine on the planet. I had to pull some wine club strings to get us in over a holiday weekend but I'm so happy we did!!! Staff is very accommodating and kind. The wine is heaven. Views from the tasting room and patio look out over a gorgeous garden as well as a valley of vines. Hidden in the garden is a wine barrel shaped room that reminds me of a hobbit house. Everything about this place just delights me. My mom and I had an amazing experience at Rombauer!!! We were able to book a last minute appointment the morning of. While on the phone with reception, my mom mentioned that Rombauer was the first winery she had ever visited in Napa Valley when she was younger. As we were being escorted to the tasting area the receptionist said welcome back, which really impressed me that they included that detail in our visit. Dante was an exceptional host during our tasting, he is very knowledgeable and friendly. We tasted the standard flight of six wines and got to taste two other reserve wines. All of them were great! We ended up buying three bottles. The garden area is gorgeous and the views overlooking the valley are amazing. I highly recommend this experience and cannot wait to visit again. read more

The entire tasting was relaxed and our table was at least ten feet away from anyone else. Christian was one of the best servers we have ever had! This was my absolute favorite winery. It has the feel of a small boutique, but is one of the best selling higher end chards in the country. Our guide, was knowledgeable, charming, and funny. I mean what is not to love. First, I am a red drinker 99.9% of the time and I even love Rombauer. I came here with a group of 6 of us in our late 20s and had the best time, we only wished we could have stayed longer. We went to 3 different wineries that day and I've probably been to a dozen in Napa and I would definitely say Rombauer is the best bang for your buck, hands down. Our bill was very reasonable for 6 people. We also loved that you can bring your own food so we packed a picnic and feasted. The only downside to our picnic-style table was that there wasn't much of a view as it was so shaded. However, the upside of that was that it was hot out and it was shaded. So pick your poison! You would be remiss to come to Napa/Sonoma, etc and not come to Rombauer -- even if you are predominantly a red drinker like myself. Highly recommend and will be back! read more
