I have been a Rome's customer for years. I have always tried to support small businesses especially this one that used to be owned by Gus & Brenda but sadly things have changed. We came tonight to enjoy pizza and we left feeling cheated and annoyed. We waited half an hour for a salad and well over an hour for a medium pizza. You all served everyone around us even though we were there before them. You offered no explanation and wait staff wouldn't even look at us. Seriously, you keep this up and your business will fail. Oof--hard pass. This used to be my go-to spot, but those glory days are gone. The slice is now about 40% smaller, 50% pricier, and 100% more disappointing. The crust? A jaw workout. The flavor? Meh. The service was unintentionally comedic--they handed me cold pizza like it was a new trend. I had to ask them to heat it up, and they took my already-bitten slice and tossed it in the oven (mildly horrifying). It came back warm, but now the crust had achieved new levels of geological hardness. The marinara sauce tried to help but just made things sadder. $10.50 for two toddler-sized slices and a soda? Every other weekend my boys and I try a new piazza place. First time here, we were greeted wish a friendly smile and a patience perfect for first-timers. We got two medium pizzas: the meat lover and one called the Sauté and we added chicken to that one. Compared to other places, it felt like the diameter of the medium was slightly smaller maybe, but the toppings were generous! I was a little wary about adding the chicken to the one pizza because some places use like precooked and warmed up/processed chicken, but these chunks tasted legit. The crust on the bottom was a little dark for my liking, but I could only taste that bitterness at the edges where there weren't any toppings. The tabletops are all metal which were cold to the touch but it worked out nicely because the pizza came out hot (as it should) but due to the laws of thermodynamics, the pies were at an edible temperature pretty quickly. The walls are decorated with collages of newspaper pages, red tape outlines articles about the establishment. I explained to my youngsters what the tv directory section was about. They had a small selection of desserts; I got some baklava. The pistachio-flavored one was surprisingly not as tasted as the walnut. All-in-all, we were very pleased and it'll go in the top three pizza places we've been to. read more

Rome's used to be one of my favorite pizza places in San Antonio and I've been coming here for over 20 years. It seemed like their pizza has fallen off post pandemic. I came here on a Saturday and ordered a small Greek salad with the dressing on the side and it was good. The server at the counter was friendly. I also ordered a 12" pepperoni pizza. My salad came first then my pizza. The pizza was piping hot but the crust was a little burnt and wasn't cut all the way. I had to use the pizza server to cut the slices at the crust. Rome's has pictures of articles bragging about them winning the Reader's Choice award for Best Pizza in SA. But people do not be fooled. The article is from over a couple of decades ago and most of us in San Antonio have moved on to much better pizza places. read more

Today, we decided to order something besides our "usual". My friend had a veggie pizza listed on the menu as order 5 toppings and pay for 4. It arrived at the table looking wonderful. Truthfully we should have taken a picture. I had a cheese-stuffed calzone that allowed 2 additional items as add-ins. I chose beef and meatballs. The crust was perfect. It was FILLED with meat and came with a side of sauce. And because the contents of the calzone were packed so tight, it stayed warm until the last bite. This place was always a family-favorite but no longer. Their phone service is non-existent with the same "Please hold" comment before answering to take our pick up order. Most times, we were already at the restaurant AND STILL ON HOLD! And now apparently, single slices are only sold at lunchtime. Rome's is a great neighborhood casual eatery I have been patronizing for over 18 years. Their dining area is super simple with no frills, but don't let that fool you. They also offer takeout, which I've done a few times. They are consistent and their menu has the usual expected items for a pizza joint plus much more. I think of it as a sort of pizza cafe with elevated tastes. Their menu rivals the fanciest of pizza places. Over the years I've tried everything on their menu, but my favorite is the small chicken piccata pizza. It has artichoke hearts, capers, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and chicken. But wait.... there's more.... the crust is perfect with the right amount of crispiness on the outside with a soft inside. It is a lemon pepper crust which gives the perfect tanginess to balance the sharp taste of the artichoke hearts. After this meal I feel full and satisfied without feeling 'stuffed'. If I'm really hungry, sometimes I will add the Greek Salad which is always fresh and loaded with flavor. read more

Delicious Pizza, decent wings, good mozzarella sticks. Yum. My boyfriend and I ordered the 16" pepperoni pizza with a side of wings and mozzarella sticks. I love the firm/flaky crust. Just the right amount of dough and toppings. We dined in, and the pizza was served fresh and hot. Mozzarella sticks came with a good amount, and the buffalo wings are served naked and tender. We didn't realize the wings pictured on table are Italian wings, so I'll probably be trying those the next time around. When I had a craving for pizza a kind soul suggested me this spot for "the most amazing pizza ever". Without hesitation we both ordered the same pizza which was my first time to try. We are from NY, we moved to San Antonio in 2017, the first place we ate when we moved here was Romes, we wanted pizza, I hopped on yelp and the rest is history, I'm actually surprised I haven't reviewed them yet, I thought I did, I mean we've eaten there so many times that we lost count!! So first the pizza, when we go we always get the large pepperoni sometimes on regular crust but most recently on the whole wheat, it's great that they have this option, they also have gluten free!! The pizza is def our go to and we love it!! Not to thick not to thin, it holds up well with the toppings and crispy crust!! We order a classic pepperoni pizza with double and cheese, and all I have to say is....OH MY SWEET CHEESUS! The flavor of the mozzarella they use for their pizza is amazing! Also, the tomato sauce in the pizza, was so flavorful and natural... you could taste the fresh tomatoes in every bite. And something that made my experience even better was their banana peppers! Went there for dinner tonight. Ordered the Rome calzone and the White House pizza. The White House pizza was pretty good. It was fresh and loved the red onions on the pizza. The calzone was not my favorite. The dough was dry. And the ingredients were not tasty. They could've used some seasoning or something. The marinara sauce was good. I like that they have bottles of wine for purchase at a normal price and not crazy prices. They also offer variety of beers if you like one with your Italian food. I chose water and it was just fine. It was pretty busy and initially I thought I wouldn't find a table. However, I did find one instantly. They have seating outside that would be great on pleasant evenings. I understand that right now some deliveries will take time. However 2 and half hours seems a bit long. I truly do not think it was worth the way, I know a lot of people love their pizza I do not, it tasted like a frozen pizza to me. I'm from New York and pizza is a way of life there lol. We each had a slice and never finished the pizza. I am giving them the two stars for the wings , I did enjoy the Italian ones. They actually tasted like mini cutlets in a stick, I would order them again and may try some other menu items that they have to be more fair.
