Lowes installation had snapped off my valve handle faucet to turn off and on hot water, installing a new LG washing machine. Took me a while to find Mark Williams, but was brilliant repairing a 50 year old faucet and will be my family plumber for all future projects. Mark also rebuilt my shower valves in my bathroom which was a miracle, no one new how to fix my shower from leaking. Honest and efficient, 30 years of professionalism, running a family business. I was taking a walk in San Carlos and happened to see one of the Ron Williams' guys was packing up his van after he had finished up a job. Reliable & Highly Professional service. The guys at Williams are top notch. My water heater blew up this week and was leaking everywhere. This is one of the few Peninsula plumbing outfits open on the weekend. I called fairly early 8am-ish on short notice on a Saturday morning. The owner Ron Williams actually answers the phone! They arrived in the window they promised - between 1 and 4pm. They were in and out in under 2 hours to replace my 10 year old 40 gallon water heater with a larger (50 gallon) more fuel-efficient unit. I like having hot water for showers! Mark, from Ron Williams P/H, has come to my house twice. Both times, he has been absolutely superb. Great guy, super experienced/competent, 100% reliable and on time. First, he installed a gas line for our new firepit. Price was radically below two other quotes and his work was top notch. He was on time and got the job done in record time. More, he caught some dangerous work from a prior service person related to the connection to our built-in BBQ in our basement. It wasn't an insignificant issue and he fixed it for no extra charge. Today, Mark came out to "fix" a blank Nest thermostat. Turns out the switch to the furnace had been flipped off inadvertently in the garage by a mirror which leaned against it. I was embarrassed I had him come up to Emerald Hills for something so dumb and told him I wanted to pay him something and had my checkbook out with pen in hand. He absolutely refused (in an exceedingly polite way) to accept payment. There are so many sketchy Plumbing/Heating guys out there (e.g., don't show up on time, crazy quotes, simply not competent). Williams is Great. I don't give out five stars easily. The service was quick, Ron Williams knows what he is doing. I had my clogged drains and within an hours of a phone call he came out and had them unclogged. We have an old heater in our ranch house, and when it stopped working in late December it got cold in a hurry. I called first thing in the morning and Mark Williams came out to our house that day between 12-2:00 p.m. He was on time, familiar with our old heater, and got it fixed in less than 20 minutes. I used Ron Williams Plumbing when we had an insane toilet clog over a year ago, and I always meant to go back to review them. We had a little miscommunication early on, but once we sorted that out, the plumber was incredibly competent and handled our disgusting clog in less than 30 minutes. Friendly enough, but didn't end up going with these guys. They quoted me $650+ for a new blower and board. I called another local heating repair service for a 2nd opinion. I didn't tell the 2nd quote guys about the blower/board quote from the Ron Williams guy. I wanted an unbiased diagnosis for my 2nd quote. The 2nd quote was $100 for a new capacitor ($550 less than Ron Williams!) The 2nd quote guy spent 5 min with my furnace and said "another guy would probably tell you that you have to replace the blower, but I can tell your blower is fine." He explained that these days "replace" has been promoted so heavily as the easy fix, that options for "repair" are often passed over. Anyway, I exchanged my capacitor and have had nice warm air flowing through my vents ever since. Just saying, sometimes it pays to get a 2nd quote. read more

Called Ron Williams Plumbing and Heating after our furnace stopped functioning during the recent cold snap and we hadn't had heat for 2+ days. Mark called me back but because of a large backload couldn't come out for 5 days or more. He asked me to describe the problem and he said to check the batteries in the thermostat. That was the perfect diagnosis and the problem was fixed by me in less than 5 minutes! He could have put me on the list and charged for a home call but instead was responsive and honest. for every so many 5 star reviews, there's always a 1 star... i'm a pretty tolerant guy when it comes to home repair and remodeling, but these guys were so terrible i felt i owed it to the yelp community to share my story. i hired one of their guys to install a tankless water heater back in 2006 and to do the plumbing work on a bathroom addition. well, that guy ended up running water pipes across my roof (i don't know why i didn't realize back then that is not OK, but like i said, i'm tolerant). later that winter, one of the pipes burst one freezing morning. now, every year, before the winter comes, i've got to go onto the roof and make sure that the pipes are adequately insulated. on top of that, on nights that i know it'll dip way below freezing, i've got to keep a faucet running in the house. these are hassles i really don't need, but inherited by hiring ron williams plumbing. the other problem from the same project was that they convinced me that i had to run a new sewer line (lateral) from my house to the street. ok, whatever you guys say, you're the experts (again, a tolerant guy, or, maybe, a fool). well, 5 years later, that lateral they ran slipped, and the connection at the sidewalk was about 1 inch off. needless to say, nasty stuff builds up out there, and eventually, backs up into the house. i called them to tell them about the problem, and all i got was arguments. no offer to help remedy the situation. they wanted nothing to do with me. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST. through my contractor i was introduced to another plumber (check my reviews, he's awesome) who fixed the lateral. SAVE YOURSELF FUTURE PROBLEMS, DON'T USE THESE GUYS. read more

We have a Carrier Weather Maker 8000 that decided to stop working right in the middle of a cold snap. I'm a handyman, but this one was out of my league, so I decided to bring in help. I called several HVAC companies only to find that the cold weather was creating lots of business for them and I'd have to wait a week or so to get a technician to my house. Good for them, terrible for me. I also left messages for a few that were out on calls. About to give up, I got a call back from Mike at Ron Williams Plumbing and Heating. He said he was right around the corner and could be at my house in 5-10 minutes. Mike arrived quickly and jumped right in to diagnose the problem. After a few minutes, he found a bad limit switch and ran back to his shop to get a replacement part. Ten minutes later, I heard him back tinkering in my garage and had the new limit switch installed without a hitch. Mike was extremely courteous, he clearly explained every step of his diagnosis and repair (yes, I am one of those annoying guys that hovers around contractors while they are woking). If Mike hadn't called back, I'd be at the store, buying another bundle of firewood right now, eagerly awaiting a different HVAC company's backlog to clear. What a blessing to have had Mike right in my neighborhood and get my heater working within an hour of me calling him. If Yelp had six stars, I'd give Mike all six. read more

I was cleaning out the plumbing at my mom's house which is very old and has chronic slow drains. The cast iron pipe broke when I tried to open the clean out. Ron responded quickly and the next day had the main job done quickly. I had him do some additional work on the galvanized water lines the next day. Not only was he quick and professional but the job came in substantially under bid. He is extremely honest and professional. One Saturday I had a Direct TV installer at my house and he carelessly drilled through a water line. Having to shut the water main off to both my house and the front house, I was desperate to find a plumber to come out last minute on a weekend to fix the pipe. We have a rental home in Redwood City. We are long distant home owners. We got a message from our tenants that there was a major leak in our front yard. As the owner that built the house I knew what the problem was since this was a re-occurrence. The first plumber i called quoted me 2,000.00. I knew this was way over priced. I called Ron Williams Plumbing after hours on Tuesday night. He informed me he was really booked up and might not make it out til 2-4 on Wednesday, but would call if he could make it out early. He did and fixed the problem and was out of there before 1pm for a total cost of less than 200.00. A completely reasonable rate for the job. We have the Cal Water interior plumbing insurance (total waste of money unless you have the exterior insurance as well) and the plumber they sent out two days before only snaked to the exterior wall and left - disaster waiting to happen. On Sunday at 5pm, the toilet and tub were overflowing! Tried Home Serve (absolutely no help) and the original plumber (left 2 messages and never called me back even though they say they do "emergency repairs"). We then called Mark who has helped us on several plumbing emergencies in the past and he came immediately and fixed the problem by snaking out to the street. Don't be like me! I hired Ron. Nice guy but... He charges $155 for first hour including 15 min travel time regardless whether the work takes 5 minutes or 45 minutes and regardless whether it's 5 min travel time. He diagnosed problem as electrical in 5 minutes so I was stuck with a full hour / $155. He offered to install a new thermostat from his van since I was stuck paying for the full hour. What else am I going to do? His thermostat was a very basic model and he charged me $47. I asked if I can do better at Home Depot. He said "sure, you can save a couple bucks". I eventually checked Home Depot, they have 38 models under $30 including the same model in-store for $22. Doh, insult to injury. So, here's my advice, try Gary's Furnace. He charges only $105 per hour and no travel time, because his assistant organizes his schedule to reduce travel time. read more
