I can't say enough good things about Hector and his team. They installed a heat pump in our house 3 weeks ago. Since we were out of town for awhile, all of the coordination / planning was done remotely. Then the system was installed once we returned. The entire process could not have gone more smoothly. Hector is very nice and so easy to work with - well informed, responsive, hard working plus a great sense of humor. And I want to emphasize that he always shows up! .... if he says he'll be there, he's there. The system is great; manuals need work.! A week after the installation, I was having trouble reconciling the manual with actual implementation. I texted Hector late in the day and he came over the following day to help. Nothing wrong with the unit, btw, just needed some clarification on operations described in the manual. We have a Carrier mini-split system with 2 outdoor units and a thermostatically controlled unit in each room. Love it.! ... so energy efficient as the temperature in each space can be controlled separately. Plus the units respond very quickly to temperature demands. We abandoned the ducts in this house in favor of energy efficiency and hopefully a cleaner house - the ducts were old (1974) and likely quite dirty. With the last few summers breaking heat records, we knew that we needed to do more than our current Sunsetter Awnings and blackout curtains to keep our West San Jose home cooler in the summer heat. I hired Cobalt Heating to install a new HVAC system and ductwork for a 2nd story addition in San Jose. Hector and his team installed a Carrier Infinity Heat Pump System in the attic with ductwork. The team at Cobalt did an amazing job, the system is top notch, and because it runs off of electricity I have the ability to run it off our Tesla Solar Tiles + 4 PowerWalls. During the storms this winter we had multiple outages, and the system would just run off our PowerWalls through the night and recharge using our solar during the day for uninterrupted heat and power. I can also operate my HVAC system remotely from an app on my phone which is handy when I'm heading back into town from a work trip. We asked for heat pump installation for our remodel home. Hector was the first to respond. He has been very, very responsive both on email and on text. They also arrived on time for the estimate. And Hector is THE smartest/easiest to communicate person I've ever met among the 8-10 companies that I quoted - no BS, no walking around the garden, just straight to the point, with rationale. I was a tech enthusiast so I went ahead to research a ton on every brand and every system I could find online. I dig deep into installation manuals, online trainings etc. to know the inside out of the systems, the limitations etc. So I know if someone actually knows things or they're just reading from sales brochure. I asked some very specific questions to Hector around zoning, and he's knowledgable enough to tell me that it won't work. I challenged him that the installation manual says we could. He went ahead to seek clarification from Carrier representative, and it turns out that his understanding is correct. I really appreciate that he took the time to seek Carrier clarification on my questions whenever I have them. The whole experience with Hector has been great. I love how he would outright tell me if something doesn't make sense. Some other installers would just throw in whatever I asked and won't notice that they don't work together well. At the end we didn't go with Cobalt due to some totally unrelated reasons. If it were not for those, we would likely have gone for Cobalt. If you are like me, just starting to get into all this HVAC world, Cobalt would be a great company to start talking to. Can't recommend Hector and his team enough! He came recommended to us through our realtor. Extremely fast and communicative. He came out to our house to give us a quote while we were still in the closing process! We were able to order parts and got the job lined up for right after closing. The team got the job done within a week including inspections. He was very patient in explaining the different options (central air vs. mini splits, and difference in location of installations) , and very accommodating around our schedules of other work like termite fumigation. Mostly importantly, everything was done very professionally. The wiring was very clean to the panel through the walls, and they left the house very clean each day even if we weren't living in it. They took down our old heaters and patched the walls. They even took down our wall mirror and then put them back in to avoid accidentally breaking. Cobalt is still the best!! We're getting ready to list our home and noticed the AC wasn't working as well as it had been. We called Cobalt to clean our vents and service the furnaces & AC units because it's HOT! Angel and Jesse came out and were so awesome. Seriously - these guys performed the best service. I was impressed by how careful they were going in and out of each room to clean the vents, the meticulous care they took to add the insulating tape, along with cleaning the vents and replacing the filters. We have a crazy odd filter, but they were able to find the replacement and came back to change it! These guys are phenomenal, they came in for such a pain in the ass project. I bought an old house that had a furnace in it from before America was discovered... in the attic... with no support for them to work on. They were able to add support to the attic, making it safe to work in there, replace my old furnace, add AC through my existing ducts, expand the return vent that was too small to support AC, and install a Nest I got as a gift in ONE DAY. After putting off AC Installation for years due to HOA approval bureaucracy among other things, I finally put out a Yelp "project" to get some quotes and finally get it done this year after enduring a week of the heat wave. Hector instantly reached out and scheduled to come take a look the next morning. He very quickly got the general idea of the project and gave me a quote that night. It was such a great quote (I'd had other companies give quotes this and in previous years) - AND they could come do the installation the same week even though I'm sure there were a ton of people dying to get this kind of work done - so I instantly accepted and canceled the other companies that I had scheduled to come in the next day (earliest for them). Installation day comes and Hector and Oscar arrive at 8:30am to get started, and blast out work all day in the heat *and* wildfire smoke. Turns out my attic had an unexpected giant plank blocking off the original area to go through, so they quickly solved the issue and routed around it. Installation finished by the end of the work day, even with Hector doing some extra electrical work that I asked if he'd be willing to do (completely separate from the AC installation, and that I'm also thrilled to have done!), and I had full AC blasting just in time for the evening, controlled by the Nest Theromstat I bought off Amazon that he also installed for me. In the end, Hector and Oscar were fantastic, super laid back, extremely hardworking, respectful of covid (more-so than I was being), very courteous of the interior while doing installation (giant rugs laid out to catch all debris), and also transparent with the installation process throughout the day. Prior to calling a HVAC company, I did a bit of research here on Yelp and read the reviews. Cobalt was local and had great reviews. Our furnace is probably 20+ years old and it has never worked properly. Our previous contractors installed new ducts in the attic and still performance was very weak. Our AC went out last summer and decided to get rid of the ac unit all together. During this winter, it just didn't seem that we were getting any warm airflow and the back rooms remained cold. Don and Chris arrived on time and troubleshooted our heater. Since we didn't have a ac unit, the removed the coil, cleaned the blower and replaced some parts. They did some before and after tests and our system has never worked this efficient in the 17+ years we have owned our house. It is 1000%+ better! I am so happy we found Cobalt! read more

TL;DR - Great communication throughout. - Honest - Fair Prices - Work on Saturday. Don and Chris are a great father and son team. They came in on time, figured out what was wrong with our heater fairly quickly, and gave me a fair verbal estimate for the repair cost. Unfortunately they didn't have the part needed on the truck but they were able to locate one that would be available the next day (Saturday) after a couple early appointments. On Saturday, only the father came out with the part. He got to work and had the heater working quickly and then adjusted it to manufacturer's spec. Don and Chris just got done working on the A/C system in the house. I would highly recommend them! With the warm weather, we had called a few A/C companies to take a look at our system. After two weeks and five calls (with no responses) to another company, we figured that all of the A/C folks would be scheduling several weeks out. After another warm night in the house, I called Cobalt. Don and Chris were at the house within two hours. Chris spent a few minutes under the house, then in the attic. He checked all the ducts and was able to find some minor issues, but nothing major. Don went through the heating and blowing components and verified that everything there was in good working order. They then took some measurements and made some recommendations. The first was to change out our main air filter. I always thought that a better air filter caught more particulates. It turns out, it also restricts the air flow through the house. Don explained that by buying a cheaper air filter, we would get better air flow and better cooling while putting less pressure on the system. Chris then checked the coolant on the A/C unit and explained to me how the temperature exchange worked on the unit. When we started filling the unit, the A/C was putting air into the house that was in the seventies, and taking air out that was in the 80s. Three pounds of coolant later, and the air going in was in the 30s and the air coming out in the 90s! When we walked into the house, my wife was complaining about how cold it was inside. Mission Accomplished! I felt that for the thoroughness and time spent, the amount they charged was very reasonable. I will definitely call on Cobalt again! read more

I was VERY pleased with my experience with Cobalt Heating and Cooling! I called with issues on my AC and Don and Chris were able to come out the SAME afternoon which was amazing because it was a hot day! I was given the window of 2-5 pm for the service call, Chris called and said they would be there at 3 pm and they were there right on time. The replaced my filter (duh) and the charge for the service call was only $85.00, not bad at all for same day service and immediate relief. I also needed a water pump installed so asked for a quote. Don quoted me less than another shady AC guy had quoted and set the appointment up for the following week. He even planned to go the extra mile and create a drain system for the water that would water my plants and even said he would spray paint the PVC pipe to blend in with my fence! I was happy when they arrived at 8 am on the dot and did the service in less than an hour. Both Chris and Don were friendly, professional, prompt, knew their stuff and explained everything to me. I felt like I could trust them and was very impressed that Don went the extra mile with creating a watering system with my AC water. AC died right before the 100+ heat wave. Don and Chris come to fix my AC. Although it take three trips, I can see it is a odd issue overlay with issue with the new part. They didn't BS me and over charge me for hours debugging the issue. I will call them back for service again. Hint: SMS text works the best...
