I've been a patient at this dental office for some time, and I must say that the dentist is absolutely fantastic. skilled, professional, and genuinely caring. The dental care I've received has always been top-notch, and I feel confident recommending the dentist to others. Unfortunately, my experience with the office manager has been less than ideal. The older white woman who is the office manager comes across as overly intrusive, often prying into personal matters that have nothing to do with the dental services. This behavior makes the atmosphere uncomfortable and detracts from an otherwise professional environment. While the dentist and the clinical staff are excellent, I believe the patient experience would greatly improve if the office management were more respectful of boundaries and focused on creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the quality of care deserves an equally positive administrative experience. read more

I was a patient of Dr. McKay's about 10 years ago. One of my close friends recommended that I use him as a dentist. I was having tooth pain in my back left upper molar. Dr MCKay said I needed a root canal and crown. Dr McKay preformed the root canal and placed a crown on the tooth. The crown was too big for my mouth and Dr Mc Kay had to file down the crown to the point were the porcelain was removed and part of the crown was black. About a year later I had to have a root canal on the tooth next to the back left motor. Again I needed a crown. I went in and had Dr McKay, do the Root canal and the crown. this time the crown was also too large and Dr McKay drilled some enamel from the molar next to the molar that needed the crown. I had the crown placed on the tooth By Dr McKay. A few months later I went to have my teeth cleaned and Dr McKay said that I needed a 3rd root canal on the tooth that was next to the second molar that was crowned. I thought to myself, this is getting ridiculous and went to another dentist and got a second opinion. This Dentist that did the second opinion was horrified at the work that was done in my mouth. he was said that the crowns needed to be replaced and that they did not fit in my mouth, and he said that it was wrong to remove enamel from a healthy tooth in order to fit a crown. I contacted Dr McKays office and shared this information. Dr McKay very kindly offered to re-do the crowns at no cost to me, this time the crown fit in my mouth. I still to this day have not had a root canal on the 3rd molar, which is a perfectly healthy tooth. I went to a Periodontist on this past friday who took extensive x-rays of my mouth. The Periodontist found that both teeth that Dr McKay did root canals on did not have all of the nerve removed, the periodontist told me that this occasionally happens when you do not have a specialist do a root canal. bottom line I have 2 infected molars in my mouth right now, and a massive infection. now I need to have the root canals re-done and may even have to have the 2 teeth extracted. I'm pretty upset about this and wish that I had gone to an Endodontist. the lesson that I learned, if you need a root canal go to an endodontist. Dr McKay recommended I get four crowns due to "small cracks" I believed him and trusted him so agreed to to it. I did not have any symptoms or pain and the 'cracks' were not seen on xrays. I look back and question why I trusted his recommendation. The work for temp crowns happened on June 23, 2023. I experienced extreme and constant pain for months. Lost sleep, constant headaches and inability to eat anything. Drinking like warm water caused pain. Even after the permanent crowns were put on, the pain didn't end. McKay recommended an endodonist. That person was a complete Hack. I found a more credited endodontist. After thousands of dollars and months of pain, I got two root canals from the endodontist. I called McKays office to give update and, of course, McKay never called back and avoided all contact. I did get a flyer in the mail suggesting I spend more money and 'use up all my insurance for the year before it ends." That clicked the light bulb. Maybe I didn't need creams after all. But now that my nerves and teeth were damaged by the crown work there was no going back. I'm now going in for two more root canals. Pain persists. My teeth and nerves were damaged so badly, this is the only way, it's March 2024. 9 months of pain and $$$$. I really like the hygienists at McKays office but I can't go back. The quality of my life was so extremely affected by damaging dentistry that I simply can't trust the motivations of that office. The oath "first, do no harm' rings in my ears every day I live with this pain. I have no concrete medical tests that explains what happened. All I can do is try to fix what can be fixed. I can only say without any doubt is that I had zero pain, zero sensitivity and zero symptoms prior to any crown work. And I've have nothing but pain and anguish since the moment the crown work was performed over 9 months ago, Please think hard before trusting and pushback before agreeing to procedures . read more

Dr. McKay is great. I was in desperate need for a root canal about a year ago, he and his assistants really took care of me. Everything went smoothly. So, why 2 stars? The office manager. I have never had such a bizarre experience at the dentist. Nothing happened the first day I went to get a mold for my crown, it was the day I actually had my root canal performed. Dr. Mckay was a just a few minutes away from getting started. I had to be injected multiple times in order for my gums and nerves to numb. After already being injected, lying in the dental chair with the saliva hose resting in my mouth... in comes the office manager. She comes to me, while I'm just about to have my procedure done, instruments in my mouth, while my mouth is numbing,, and asks me to pay for my procedure - right then and there. I was dumbfounded. I told her I needed to activate my credit card first hoping, it was the truth but I was hoping she would go away. Nope. She tells me to go ahead and activate it and that she'll be right back. I do because what else am I going to do? I just want her to go away. I'm in extreme pain and I just want it to feel okay again. I hadn't been sleeping for days. I hand her the card and she quickly comes back with a tiny receipt and my card. Never have I in my life, been asked to pay for something DURING my procedure. Either I'd pay before being seen or after, never while my mouth is wide open and I'm drooling with a saliva suction straw in my mouth... It was extremely off putting. To make matters somehow worse, after my procedure I asked for an itemized receipt for my personal record as the one she gave me only had the amount of money I paid and nothing of what I was paying for. It took about 10 minutes for whatever reason while she had me wait in the back - this isn't the worse part. She finally arrives and apologizes for the delay, hands me the receipt and I say thank you. I turn around and I'm reading this for maybe 30 seconds a few times over, and the whole time she is just staring at me. Not saying anything, not asking me if everything is good or if I need anything else, just staring at me. I leave and that's it Its unfortunate because Dr McKay and his staff all seemed great and the work was well done. I just can't get over how off putting the office manager was towards me. read more

I've been with Janet for years as she carefully has helped me take care of my teeth. Love her!!! She helps keep me on track with my oral care!! Dr. McCay is very gentle, explains step by step in doing a procedure. I had issues with a tooth implant and my tissue and bones did not adhere to implant. The entire procedure was redone of course at no charge. This is quite a long process but now all seems to be good with second go around. Love all the staff and they have all been kind and sympathetic during my personal family heartaches. read more

I just started to see Dr. McKay in February thanks to a friend at work recommending him to me. On our first meeting/cleaning I was informed that my shoddy crown from a dentist in Mexico (My fault -- didn't have dental insurance at the time the crown was placed) was not only covering the bad tooth but a former GOOD tooth, which Janett (amazing dental hygienist) had explained to me why I couldn't floss back there. Big oof. So from February - July Dr. McKay worked with me to fix these two teeth (my healthy tooth had gone bad due to the half-crown that was covering both of the teeth) and I got two new crowns placed over those months. The reason this took so long is because my insurance resets in July and thus I had to wait for the next "fiscal year" for work to continue. The front office and Dr. McKay really worked with me on this. So in July everything was finally fixed -- unfortunately I had to have 2 root canals (painless) with those teeth as well. I scheduled my next cleaning for September and about 2 weeks before my appointment I felt a sharp jagged piece on a molar on the opposite side of my 2 crowns. I come in for my cleaning and worst fear -- there is a chip in that tooth now too! Dr. McKay got me in the following day so I currently have my 3rd crown with him. Hopefully this one won't need a root canal, as I didn't feel any pain prior to the temporary crown being placed -- but we'll see in 2 weeks when I go back! I do have to take ibuprofen every 6 hours or so due to pain from where the needles numbed me -- but that's OK because during the actual drilling for the crown I didn't feel a thing. May I also mention that this office truly cares for your nerves as well? They understand people's dental anxiety and for my crown procedures was offered a valium. It really made these stressful experiences so much better. Lastly, but definitely not least. Dr. McKay is a very compassionate man and has excellent bedside (chair?) manner. He is patient and answers all of your questions -- usually before you have to even ask! Also, Janett the DH is the same way -- she educates so well and I learned that I had been brushing/flossing my teeth wrong for my entire life thanks to her. 3rd oof. SO! In conclusion, in 2 weeks I hope to have my nice crown with no need for a root canal. The cost of things even with PPO insurance is still quite pricey, but I really do love the education and friendliness everyone has. I hope to only see you guys for my 6 month cleanings == please no more work! :) read more

My experience and review applies to Dr. Ronald McKay only, not to Dr. Grossman, whom I never met. Spending many tens of thousands of dollars and many, many, repeated visits to his office, I finally got my implant supported dentures from Dr. McKay, PARTIALLY supported, anyway. Attachment of the upper denture to the four implants designed for it went well. However, after my many, many return visits and his attempts, Dr. McKay was unable to attach the four bottom implants to the plate. At my expense, I ordered yet another bottom plate. Still he could not attach them. So HE decided WE would go with just the two connections on the bottom. After a few months, the bottom came unattached-$200.00 to repair. After a few months, the bottom came unattached-$400.00 to repair. After a few months, the bottom came unattached-$1000.00+ to repair. He sent word by his staff that "she got her eight implants." The staff gave me some Poliygrip and physically exported me out the door. The above is a report of what happened. What follows is my opinion: I believe he was learning, practicing on me. Dr. McKay and his staff are truly exceptional. I found out about his office through a Facebook Mommy page for my neighborhood, and saw that his office was recommended and liked by many local moms. So I got an appointment for my husband and I since it's been a few years since we've had a dental cleaning/check-up. First, his staff are the nicest and most welcoming people who work in the business. The second you walk in, everyone behind the desk looks up at you (even when they're on the phone) and smiles. Second, his office is easy to find, has lots of parking, is impeccably clean, and has modern equipment I've never seen at other dental offices. Third, the doctor himself was very thorough with his diagnosis and provided me with multiple pictures and x-rays showing why I needed some procedures. I also appreciated that he gave me a couple of options: get a root canal which they don't do at that office, or get my tooth pulled and get an implant. As I don't have insurance, they gave me the breakdown of how much the procedure would cost, and it was surprisingly reasonable for the quality of treatment I got. I will certainly be back and will highly recommend for other to come here. I wish that more healthcare providers were like Dr. McKay and his staff. (To note, my husband actually saw Dr. Grossman - whom he also liked - and he was quite impressed with the office and quality treatment he received). read more

First time appointment to Dr. McKay because my dentist retired. I had a bad tooth that had to come out. Dr. McKay examined my tooth and very clearly told me of the procedure to remove it and rebuild the loss bone in my jaw. I was apprehensive when I returned to have the procedure. I must tell you, everything went so smoothly. the Doctor and his assistants were just great, no pain, keeping me informed during the procedure and doing such a great job. the cleanliness of the office, the sincere friendless of the total staff and Dr. McKay's professionalism with such concern for his patients makes this a premier dental office in the area. My entire family use to come to Dr. McKay for YEARS when he use to practice in a tiny office in Glendale and followed him as he moved. As our family dentist, we expected him to treat us honestly and fairly but have suffered as a result of his greed. There seemed to always be work that needed to be done on our teeth and he was constantly drilling in our mouths and billing our insurance companies who could never pay the entire balance & resulted in fees almost every time. It started seeming suspicious when this happened every single time we visited although he always made us feel confident that we were receiving the best treatment. My last visit with Dr. McKay resulted in needing 8 drillings for cavities that had a huge outstanding balance. I went to a second dentist for his opinion and after inspecting my teeth, found zero cavities. My family and I experience pain in former teeth worked on done by Dr. McKay by shoddy drilling and fillings and now are with a dentist who is honest & working to fix the problems created by Dr. Mckay. read more

Similar to some other reviewers here, I met Dr. McKay when Dr. Whytock retired. I went in for a cleaning about 8 months ago and Dr. McKay told me that one of my crowns needed replacing. I did not have any pain or problem with my crown at the time. Following the replacement and a subsequent gum infection immediately following the procedure, the crown didn't feel right. After several visits and adjustments to the crown with no improvement, Dr. McKay recommended a root canal and I agreed. Following the root canal, I continued to have the same discomfort. Dr. McKay told me the tooth was probably cracked and recommended a bridge for $4,500. Since I had never experienced any problem with the tooth before he worked on it, I decided to seek another opinion. I got two. I saw an endodontist and a periodontist. Both specialists stated a bridge was unnecessary and they would not recommend it. Following multiple x-rays, their opinions were that the crown was causing my discomfort and it needed to be done over. The endodontist told me the root canal was not done correctly and also needed to be redone. I filed a grievance with my insurance company who had paid a portion of my $2,500 bill from Dr. McKay. After reviewing all of the records, Delta's dental consultant determined that Dr. McKay's root canal and crown are "unsatisfactory" and need to be redone. Delta requested that Dr. McKay refund Delta's $1,200 to them and my $1,300 co-payment to me. Apparently Dr. McKay did refund Delta's payment of $1,200 but he has not refunded my $1,300 to me. I expected Dr. McKay would do the right thing and refund my money. He didn't. I continue to have discomfort and will have to have both procedures done again. I am out the $1,300 co-pay that I paid Dr. McKay plus an additional $350 it took to get two other opinions and now I have to pay for the same dental work over again. Update: After posting this review Dr. McKay refunded my $1300. read more

They may be a bit expensive, I really don't know because I've always only gone to them, but they have top-notch modern equipment, are honest, and I must say, I've never had any pain! Super caring! I called the practice in the morning and one hour later they already scheduled me for a check up. The office looks pretty nice and the ladies at the frontdesk were very helpful. I got my check up and a quick x-ray to find out why my gum was swollen and everybody seamed to care and I felt like they are giving me lots of attention. My experience there was very good, the check up was free, but the price to take out my wisdom tooth was pretty high, but I guess those are the prices in general. $475 I would totally trust them. read more
