Worse than awful ! Brought car in to it turn signal. When I picked it up it was twice the estimate. Within a week found they had disconnected the radiation fan motor. Took into Top Performance for fix. They said Ron's had caused the problem due to incompetence I asked Ron's to cover the cost of the repair of their incompetence but they refused, saying they wanted to inspect the repair. I knew they wouldn't admit fault and refund my money, so I walked away never to use them again! I later also so found out Ron's had disconnected the horn, but I didn't have the money to get that corrected right then. read more

Here is my honest review. This location treated me so poorly it's unbelievable. I came in with two issues, my headlights flickering and my engine revving with the slip indicator light turning on only while completely stopped. I had hoped they would be able to diagnose and help me with this. Previously, I had installed a new battery and new alternator 4 months ago and it seemed my issues were resolved at the time. Without even checking my alternator, they claimed my alternator was bad and I needed a new one. They quoted me just over $1,100 to R&R a new alternator. When I said I would go home and test my alternator myself, I was met with attitude telling me to not test and that it's bad and I need a new one. Well, I went home and tested the alternator with a multimeter and found it to be just fine. In case that wasn't enough, I got a battery charger that also tests the alternator. Even that said my alternator was good. I also have the certificate that came with the one I installed stating it's been tested and was good to go. In addition to this alternator issue, they lied about my tire pressure. I went into the shop with pressure around 27 cold, 29 warm. My tires are rated for 33, my car lets me know the pressure. The receipt paper I received said all four of my tires were 35 which was fishy. When I got back into my car, the tire pressure was still 28. I took it home and also tested the tires with a gauge to see if my car was faulty. The gauge read 28/29 for all four tires. I don't even know if they did anything to my car, with the exception of taking some photos to prove they at least visually inspected a few components. How am I supposed to trust a business that lies about something as small as tire pressure and rely on someone who tries to push an unnecessary charge on me! I've heard similar stories from women in my circle about this exact shop too. Shameful behavior. read more

The guy said that he "knows that these coupons are going out" but acted as thought he did not know the content or expiration dates...huh? I had a wonderful experience with Ron's Automotive. I was having a hard time finding someone to look at my 2004 Thunderbird, but they welcomed my business. They were so friendly and helpful. My power steering needed a simple fix, but searching for the part was a challenge because of the age of the car. They were very resourceful, and found an easy solution that didn't cost me a lot of money. Their communication was great, and they were so nice and respectful. They did an overall inspection, changed the oil, rotated the tires and all that. I felt like the invoice at the end of it was very fair. Re: Update 2009 Honda Accord strut and sway bar replacement This is an update from my 8/10/23 entry regarding the front left strut coming loose from the upper control arm. Ron's replaced all affected parts, thoroughly checked all the work done by their Mechanic, and assessed root cause why the Mechanic forgot to tighten the bolt and replace the kotter pin. They refunded a portion of the total original bill and their District Manager and one of the owners performed a thorough inspection and test drove the car to ensure everything was working properly. They were horrified that this happened to us and apologized and are revising their internal oversight of their Technicians to make sure this never happens again. Based on their attentiveness and serious actions taken internally, my confidence in Ron's Automotive Repair has been restored and I would recommend them. read more

I strongly suggest not taking your car to this facility. I took my Prius C in for a 30,000 mile checkup. They would not give me an estimate because, according to them, there were too may vagaries involved. I took it here in the first place because they were recommended by a friend, so my inclination was to trust them. Mistake. In one of the few times in my life, I did not have my phone with me when they called for authorization to complete the work. Unfortunately, my wife answered my phone. She is completely, and I do mean completely, ignorant about cars. (i.e. What kind of car do you have ma'am? It's red.) She said, sure, go ahead. When I got there to pick up the car, I was told the charge was $787.74. I sure thought it was a mistake and asked if they had mistakenly put on a new set of tires. That is the only thing I could think of that might explain the magnitude of their error. I objected vociferously and fruitlessly for some many minutes to no avail. When I got home, I called the Toyota dealership in Vancouver, which I had purposely avoided because of past experiences with dealerships. I asked them what they charged for a 30,000 mile check up on my car. They said, $209.85, which was much more in line with what I would have expected. I printed out their quote, and returned to Ron's. I confronted the Service Manager who was as smugly self-righteous as he had been the first time. He said the charge was in line with "industry standards!" What industry standards?, I inquired. Automotive industry standards, he replied. I asked, "You mean to tell me Factory dealership standards are that far out of line with your 'standards?' He gave a wan smile and nodded in the affirmative. "OK." I said, "Here's the bottom line. I will give you this last chance to make this right." He gave a dismissive shrug. I would HIGHLY recommend Ron's Automotive My son recently had his car looked at another local shop due to some warning lights coming on - they took four days to look at it and came up with almost $3100 estimate to fix - my oldest child has a mechanic background so I inquired with him because the cost was shockingly high - he said that the estimate was grossly overpriced and some of which seemed unnecessary -- an example was one part costing over $600 more than we could buy ourselves on the internet - just the part - not the labor and they recommended replacement of the seat belt wanting over $500 for that but what they didn't say was that Honda has lifetime warranty and would fix for free - so we took it to Ron's and had them look at it w/o knowledge of the other estimate from another shop - Ron's informed us that the seat belt could be done by Honda,the codes were caused by faulty battery cables - replaced those at the cost of $40 - yes $40 instead of over $3000 I would highly recommend Ron's - Ray and Tiffany were great informing us of the issues and the repair was done promptly read more

After paying $160 Plus for a diagnosis of a broken spring in my coil they said they would solder it back together. When I went to pick up my car it was over $400 plus an oil change that I had authorized. 4 Weeks later I noticed I had a bad oil leak underneath my car when it was raining it was a huge rainbow where I've been parked I looked under the car and noticed the oil filter was a half an inch or better away from the block and the oil was just dripping out profusely. As I don't use this car everyday it sat for a few days undriven. I took the car back and told the service manager about the leak they took the car around back put it in the shop for quite some time he brought it back out said he changed the oil filter and there was no leaks and everything was fine. Had a good experience with Rons. My Silverado was making a squeak, then a clunk, then a grinding. Usually I work on my own cars, but I'm not well equipped to take on a large diesel truck- nor do I have the time. It took three days from the day I dropped it off till pick up. They said it sounded like the transfer case, $$$$, but called the next day saying it was only U joints $$$. I felt the price was fair, and the u joints restored the tight feel the truck once had and the noise went away. In the end I felt like I received good honest service and for that I will return the next time I have any issues I can't take on myself read more

Their diagnostics are costly and done so in a way that they split them up between repairs so that you are incentivized to do the repairs. Their estimates are way high, and they keep going up at every step of the process. It starts high then after they have you on the hook for the diagnostic fee, they raise it, often multiple times. They have the RepairPal sticker in their window and are listed on the website as a participating location, but then they do not honor the quotes claiming they can't be trusted. I also looked on Kelly Blue Book and got similar estimates, as well as lower estimates through the dealership. I have had good work done there before but their whole diagnostic process and what not is a sham. Not to mention they factor in hours of labor for jobs that sometimes take minutes even for me, a youtube trained novice mechanic. Plus based off the cost of the parts it seems like they are charging hundreds of dollars an hour for the labor. I know enough not to be duped, but they pray on women or other people that don't know a lot about cars or car repairs. read more

AVOID! Warning - Long Story! I would avoid Ron's as they are over priced and have sketchy business practices. Basically they fixed something on my car without first validating what was causing the issue and then proceeded to say it wasn't their fault. Long Story is I had a periodic loud high pitched squeal coming from my engine that my dealership figured was a tensioner pulley, but they didn't do a detailed analysis. I took my car to Ron's Cascade Park because it was convenient and their service warranty sounded attractive. I told them what the dealership thought it was and described the problem in detail. Unfortunately we couldn't reproduce the squeal at that time, but the customer service rep I talked with said they would check for the noise and make the appropriate repair. Unfortunately Ron's proceeded to make a the repair based on what I said WITHOUT validating the problem/sound themselves. This repair was around $550. I get the car back and right away notice the squeal was still present and so I brought it back it figuring they would give some kind of break considering they didn't fix the problem. First off, when I brought the car in the and presented the noise the mechanic, he said that they had never heard that squeal before. I followed that up by asking if they heard any squeal before making the repair.......again nope. At this point I am a little frustrated, but figure they would make things right.....nope. They proceeded to drop a $730 estimate to replace my water pump and when I asked about getting some kind of break due to them messing up, they completely blew me off and said that wasn't their responsibility. Needless to say I was pissed. I proceeded to call the Mazda Dealership I usually go to for everything and a quote for $500 for the same exact repair. I try to test them out and pressure them to make a repair without validating the issue to save time but the service manager said they don't do that because it's bad business practice and opens them up to customer complaints if something goes wrong. Just for my curiosity I called a couple other repair shops in Vancouver with the same hypothetical and they all said the same thing. Apparently Ron's operates at a different standard. Funny thing is when my wife mentioned the situation to her coworkers, one of them said they had a similar experience. So in summary go to one of the many other great mechanic's shops in Vancouver and don't to Ron's where they have unethical business practices, are dramatically overpriced, and then proceed to claim no responsibility when they mess up. read more

I took my 2006 Subaru Tribeca in for a diagnostic and was quoted around $5,000 for numerous repairs. After debating I agreed to the work. 12 days later, when I was told it would be a four day job, I ended up giving them a $5800 cashiers check( that's the only method of payment they would take) and now my car has a bad transmission, an engine leak, and a broken axle, non of which was listed on the quote. I was charged for every little part you can think of and have great new parts on a very worthless vechicle. They either don't know how to diagnose ( they miss very visual problems I might add), or broke more trying to fix others. Now I'm $5800 poorer, and without a car. I had my car towed here because it was a AAA approved facility. My serpentine belt had simply come off, and was lying down below where it was supposed to be. I dropped the car off and waited for a call. When the call came, they said there was nothing wrong with the belt so they just replaced it and charged me $60. The place where I get my oil changed charges that amount for a new belt. I also asked for a quote to replace the housing for my air filter. They said it would be an extra $180. Since the reason I was replacing it was because one of the fasteners was stripped, I called the place that had likely stripped it and they agreed to fix it at their cost. So, I called immediately back to Ron's (who had told me it would take a while to get the part in) and asked them not to replace the part. They advised that they'd already removed it and had broken part of it in the process. I had the other shop replace it, and it took a total of 10 minutes, and it was a $50 part. I'm not sure why Ron's would have charged me $180 for the same thing. The most laughable thing was they emailed me an estimate for some things I might want to consider doing to my car... to the tune of $4000. The car isn't worth more than $3600. I've heard of upselling, but that was ridiculous. It appeared they went through some Honda database and chose everything that a car with my mileage should have done assuming I'd never had any of it done. In the past I've had very good luck with AAA approved facilities, but I can't recommend this place. read more

I recently brought my '02 Prius in to Ron's because its hybrid system warning light had come on, its gas mileage had taken a nose drive and it was letting out a loud high pitched noise during regenerative breaking. Ron's Automotive's website has a whole page discussing their experience working on hybrids which made them sound like experts in the field. They charged me $120 for a diagnostic that as far as I can tell consisting of nothing more than hooking up a scan tool to my car's ODB port and reading out the error codes, then another $195 to do TWO transmission fluid changes in a row (???), which they said MIGHT fix the problem I was having. After $300 worth of services made literally ZERO difference with the issues I was seeing, they told me the next step would be to pay them another $2767.33... That's $2400 for a new high voltage battery and $367.33 to get that battery installed. Confronted with that high a charge, I chose to go on the Internet and try to research the problem myself. I have since confirmed that the issue my car was experiencing in fact had NOTHING TO DO with the traction battery, and that this $3767.33 charge (THREE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY SEVEN DOLLARS) would have still left my car in exactly the same state it was already in, and would have left Ron's able to make an additional $600-$700 profit by selling off the used traction battery they'd have removed from my car. And that their next step after that would probably have been another $4500 or so to replace my transmission, where the actual problem was. I don't know if this shop is more competent dealing with combustion-only cars than they are with hybrids, but I would strongly advise *against* taking an ailing hybrid whose ailment is centered around the electronic side of the car to them. UPDATE - Jan 26, 2015, in response to Ron's Automotive's comment below - The computer code registered was a P3009, which is a high voltage leak, not a "battery leak." A P3009 can be a leak in the transaxle, in the high voltage battery casing, in the inverter or in the high voltage wiring. You guys told me it was in the battery and tried to charge me $2767.33 for a new battery when it was in fact in the transaxle. I agree with you that proper maintenance would have prevented this problem, but the $2767.33 procedure you tried to charge me for was NOT that proper maintenance procedure. Next time you get a Prius with a P3009 in your shop, consider following this procedure to figure out where the leak is. You know, if honest business is even remotely a goal for you. At the time this was going on, I tried to point your techs towards this procedure but they didn't condescend to even look into it. Had to find someone else to actually get the MG1 stator in my car's transaxle replaced without my time and money wasted on things I didn't need! I moved to Vancouver last June and needed all new tires on my SUV. I wasn't familiar with local mechanics so I did some research and found Ron's Automotive. I'm so glad I did, they're wonderful!!! The day I took my car in they had a shuttle to take me back home until my car was ready. The entire time they had my car they sent me text/email updates that included pictures of the areas of my car they were working on. They stayed in constant contact with me and kept me in the loop the entire time. When my car was ready they sent the shuttle to get me and when I got to their office they thoroughly went over everything they did. They even told me things I would need done in the future but said I could wait. I loved that they didn't say you need this and that right now like most places do. I'll not be back. After losing a wheel on the freeway and rebuilding it myself, I made an appointment at Rons to have everything inspected and get an alignment. Dropped the truck off first thing the morning of the appointment and caught a ride to work. At 4pm I finally called to see what the verdict was, only to find that they hadn't even looked at it. RIP OFF!!! SCAM ARTISTS!!! I called in to get an estimate to repair a front passenger side window regulator and was told that it was $149 for the inspection, and that most of the time the repair could be done for the $149. I dropped my car off at the shop and was never called and I finally called around 4:30 and I was told that the regulator was bad and that they would replace the regulator as well as the window motor for over $700. Excuse Me???!!! I paid $1,000 to have the rear end replaced on the same vehicle. $700 seemed quite steep compared to other shops that quoted around $300 for the same repair. Due to the fact that the shop closed at 5pm, I had to wait until 10am the bext day to get my car back, which made me hours late for work. I ended up calling a mobile repair company that comes out to you, and I only paid $259. It sucks that I paid another $149 just to find out that I was ultimately going to be ripped off!!! Everyone that I tell about the cost agrees that $700 is quite extreme and that the repair must be labor intensive. Again, it only took the mobile tech 25 minutes to do the repair. I want to rate Ron's better but after multiple attempts and oversights on different service visits I'm giving a different local shop a try. On one occasion the tech forgot to re-install my engine shroud, another visit they didn't re-connect securely an intake hose, another visit they didn't rotate the tires as requested on the work order. When the tires were rotated one of the lugnut chrome caps was missing. To their credit they acknowledged and owned their oversights, but having to return with the corresponding lost time and ride-coordinations added up. I brought my 2016 Acura MDX here for repairs after an auto accident. From the time I called to set a consult appointment to the follow up upon completion of the repairs, I've been nothing but extremely satisfied. My service advisor was Aaron who was patient kind and professional. He had my car returned to me in a timely manner and i was 100% satisfied with the repairs. My car was back to its original condition. Fast forward several months and I noticed a little bubble in the paint. I called Aaron and he remembered me straight away. He told me that hey had had some issues with their painter and has since replaced the staff in that department. He had Justin repair my paint and even repaired a parking lot side swipe for free! I started taking my cars to Ron's when I moved to Vancouver 3 years ago. They seemed great, though a little spendy but very convenient. Usually, it's just a lube and oil change which seems to take all day with no phone call to let u know it's ready. However, the phone calls regarding "immediate action" issues are made quickly. The last visit stated I need a transmission flush and it was detrimental to the life of my car. I chose to not get it as my car has low miles and it seemed a little extreme. Then, I took it in this past week for another oil change. The new "immediate action" notice no longer included the transmission flush (hmmm) but stated my bushings were bad and I should not be driving it. I even got pics from them. The quote was nearly $1200. I called Les Schwab, was quoted just under $600 for full replacement of control arm and both bushings. Took it in and before any work was done, they came back and asked why I was getting the work done because they did not see the same problem. Even after I showed the Les Schwab tech the pics he went back, looked at everything again and still didn't find the problem. He said maybe they found something he didn't but he didn't see a reason to spend all that money. Needless to say, I wont be going back to Ron's. Thank you Les Schwab for being so honest. read more

Three words to express my appreciation for Ron's after my first visit to this repair shop today: Fast, friendly and (drumroll please) .... free!!! Granted my repair issue was relatively minor, but I fully expected to compensate their good work fishing out a part I dropped deep down in the engine compartment while botching a headlight bulb change myself the night before. They retrieved the part, properly installed it, closed the hood and pulled my car around as I awaited in their comfortable lobby wait room. Pulled out some cash to pay, but the Ron's service rep politely declined and said to keep them in mind if anything else comes up down the road. Many good shops out there- this is not one of them -keep looking! Had this shop do several jobs for me in the past. Seemed overpriced but did OK. My son took in car for oil change. That night started leaking. Went back and was told he needed a new washer on oil plug next oil change. Turns out someone put the wrong oil plug back in and stripped out the pan. Manager told me it was not their fault. Quoted over $600 for repairs their technician caused. I've heard from several others that work is usually OK here but they do not stand behind their work when they make mistakes. read more

Lied to me about what the car needed. I took my car, an import with a complex V8 engine, to Ron's to have the radiator replaced. I had recently filled the radiator with coolant, and a little of the green coolant had spilled on the top of the engine, on the intake manifold, actually. NBD. The mechanic and service writer told me that the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced, because of coolant leaking. Coolant could be easily seen on the top of the engine. (It wasn't leaking, I had spilled some, and told them that.) They went on to tell me that they did an exhaust gas analysis and found exhaust gas in the coolant. I declined the very expensive intake manifold gasket replacement and just had the radiator replaced as planned. We drove that car for many many years after that with never an issue with coolant leaking or exhaust gases in the coolant. I don't go back to Ron's anymore. They lied. They mis-diagnosed. They did not listen to their customer. They were mostly interested in creating expensive repairs. read more

This goes to my most recent experience at Ron's. First, let me say, they've done exceptional work on many cars that they've worked on for me in the past - 3 versions of Subarus, a VW Jetta, a Ford F150 truck. However, I took my Mercedes C230 in due to an inoperative windshield wiper - which they attempted to repair, only to have it die within two months of the repair. Add to that when I picked up the car, they indicated that they weren't quite sure about some of the nuances of the wiper motor (timing). While I'm planning on keeping my other cars at Ron's, there is no way I'll take a higher end vehicle there. Incidentally, I took the Mercedes back to the dealer where I was charged roughly the same amount for a full replacement of the windshield wiper motor. Meanwhile, Ron's wanted me to come in for them to re-evaluate it, and repair again if necessary. That was not worth my time or effort required if I got another "we'll see if this works" type of response - so I elected to get it fixed definitively. Sorry Ron - but in this case I believe your guys missed the boat. read more
