As someone who loves a good rooftop moment, I had to check out Rooftop at Exchange Place during our Jersey City trip, and visiting on Juneteenth turned out to be the perfect choice. The weather was absolutely ideal -- warm enough to enjoy being outside but still crisp, with very little humidity. Basically, rooftop weather perfection. The biggest draw here is, without question, the view. The space itself is beautiful, with a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating, but seeing the Manhattan skyline illuminated at night is what makes this place special. It's one of those views that reminds you why people romanticize New York and the surrounding area so much. They offer a full food menu, although it appeared to be available primarily for guests seated indoors. The outdoor area seemed to focus more on drinks and lighter bites. Just know before you go: this is definitely a splurge spot. Everything is priced at a premium, so prepare yourself accordingly. Unfortunately, the service experience got off to a rough start. Both the security staff and hostess came across as unwelcoming and not particularly friendly. Whether they were overwhelmed or simply having an off night, it didn't create the best first impression. My biggest disappointment, however, was the restroom situation. By around 9:30 p.m., the bathroom was already in pretty terrible condition. Honestly, it was hard to believe it had deteriorated that much in just a few hours, and it gave the impression that it may not have been properly cleaned earlier in the day. Overall, Rooftop at Exchange Place delivers exactly what most people come for: spectacular views, a beautiful atmosphere, and an unforgettable skyline backdrop. Just be prepared for premium prices, a potentially lukewarm welcome, and hope that someone has checked on the bathrooms before you arrive. read more

Great spot right by the water at Exchange Place. The views of the NYC skyline are unreal, especially around sunset it's one of those places you go for the scenery and it delivers every time. The rooftop has a really nice vibe, good music, and a laid-back but upscale feel. Drinks are solid, and it's a great place to hang out with friends or bring someone from out of town. read more

Beautiful view, good food, great service! We were just there this past Sunday and I was surprised by how good the food was. I'd been there previously for the view but never had the food there. Not only was the food good, but the service was top notch! Rachel was extremely attentive and gracious. The view is beautiful. However, the service was horrible. The wait for someone to take our drink order for 15 to 20 minutes. When we did get our food my steak came out without a steak knife and my boyfriend wanted some additional Parmesan cheese. We had a lengthy wait before someone. And back to check on us. At that point my boyfriend had finished 3/4 of his meal. I asked for my steak to be medium, it was medium well. The food was mediocre. Ambiance: Sooo pretty! The view was spectacular, especially at sunset as we watched the day turn into night and see the NYC lights. Food: Was on the pricier side, but portions were bigger than expected, and all the food was yummy! We got the bang bang shrimp, burrata toast, waffle fries, and lemon pepper wings. I enjoyed everything and wasn't too hungry so I was able to bring the waffle fries home. We had the tres leches for dessert, which was great as welll. Drinks: The drinks were delicious! Definitely expensive, but well worth it, in my opinion. If you come here just for drinks and a view, you'll be happy. Service: I saw many reviews saying they didn't like the service, but when I went, the service was great! The food came out in a timely manner and everyone was so friendly. Well. The view from the rooftop is nice, especially at sunset. But the best viewpoint is roped off for most customers. The food was good, but not of the quality it should be for the prices on the menu. The tempura looked like it was previously frozen, and the portions for everything (especially the tiramisu) were quite disappointing. If you're not eating outside or facing the skyline, this place may not be worth it. You can get pretty much the same view from the pier below. read more

The Rooftop offers one of the best views of Manhattan from the New Jersey side. The space has a club vibe with DJ playing on a Saturday night. Come during sunset for the most incredible reflection against the city skyline. While the view is gorgeous and vibes are fun, what really set the bar was their service for me. My friend and I were enjoying our drinks when some lady backed up into our table and spilled my drink. She was so caught up trying to take a photo and completely ignored what she did. I was appalled and so annoyed. When I told a waiter so they could clean up the broken glass, he told me to let the manager know what happened. The manager was incredibly quick to get me a new drink and made sure all the glass was cleaned up. She definitely helped turned my night around, which was not any fault of the bar at all. And for that, they're getting a 5 stars for me. Plus, you can't get a better view! read more

This is the spot to go when you want to find a space with a view, where you can forget the passing hours over stunning cocktails. This was a perfect setting for a long awaited homecoming. We arrived shortly after they opened, at 4, and we were probably the third party there. The layout of the space is open and allows every party to get a great view. There is a VIP space at the front right when you walk in, that doubles as a live performance area. This area has the best view of the skyline, but with a nearly 360 view, you can move around and take in the space. If you want to have a quiet space or intimate gathering, go early. It almost feels like you've rented the space out. People started to fill in around 7. I'd recommend coming early for the sunset. The entrance is on York St and is up a few small steps / ramp into an elevator. The doorman will usher you up to the rooftop unless you are staying in the hotel. When we got there, many bartenders were at the ready setting up for a packed evening. Our bartender took her time crafting our drinks and adding personal design touches. I loved the attention to detail. The cocktail prices ranged from $17-$22. They have a long list of spirits and a mix of wine and beers. The large open bar space is perfect for chatting with strangers. All of the staff seemed up for a conversation if you're going solo. My friend and I found ourselves chatting with a couple from Ohio who were looking for an elevated night out. The outdoor space has long rectangular fire pits, which were flicking and necessary on a chilly night. Some people chose to sit outside, but in winter the winds pick up and I wouldn't recommend putting your drink down. This place, especially during sunset hours, feels like a glimpse of paradise. The view is absolutely breathtaking--it's impossible not to be mesmerized. Our cocktails were also quite delicious. However, I can't say the same for the food. The menu is very limited, and the selections may not appeal to everyone. For example, there was only one pasta option, and it came with a spicy sauce. If the menu were expanded and the flavors enhanced, the dining experience could be significantly improved. We had originally planned to stay a few hours to enjoy the view over cocktails, but the drinks were lame, the vibe is very casual, almost college bar scene and service was unattentive. We left after one round. Only redeeming thing is that they have a photographer that walks around taking complementary photos (then offers other shots he took for $). We bought a few of his shots. We walked in to grab a couple of drinks and light bites. The person at the front desk was very rude, which was a disappointing start. Even though there were plenty of outdoor tables available, we were told they were all reserved. Instead, we ordered beers at the bar and stood outside to enjoy the view. We arrived a few hours before sunset, and it was pretty calm. But closer to sunset, the place got packed, and there was a line for the elevator with more people coming up than going down. If you want to catch the sunset here, try to come early. It's a popular spot, so making a reservation is a good idea especially if you want a table outdoors or near the windows inside. The Rooftop at Exchange Place in Jersey City is a cool experience for eclectic cocktails and amazing views of the skyline! It was a nice, relaxing rooftop bar to lounge with a good cocktail and catch up with friends. The overall experience and service was pretty good, however the one downside is the price. Definitely understandable for a bar like this to have a pricier cocktail menu, most range around $18 per drink, but our overall bill came out to $42 for two cocktails due to a service fee plus a credit card fee that we were unaware of before coming! All in all, it's nice for a special occasion visit if you're looking for a more upscale place to drink at. read more

The lemon pepper wings were amazing. However, my entree (NY Strip Steak) was really bad. It was medium well, after asking for medium rare. It was also very chewy and bland. It was a rainy Wednesday night and this placed was jam packed! The outside portion of the roof was closed due to the rain. Service was fine. No issues there. I sat at the bar, had a couple of drinks and shots, ordered some fries. Needed to keep it light. The truffle garlic fries weee delicious. RoofTop at the Exchange was a really cute experience. The views alone are chefs kiss. Stopped in on a Friday night reservation and first things first...the DJ was LIT. We had what I felt was the oddest seating: they had the smallest lil table with two chairs DIRECTLY at the front door. I get wanting to maximize the space for guests but literally as people came off of the elevator we were the first people they saw, even before the host. I digress. The food? A no for me. Had the peri peri chicken and it didn't peri peri at all. No spice no heat nada. Now, the nightlife of it all was where they shined the most. After dinner, we went out to the rooftop where there is more seating and fire pits for you to warm up if it's cold. Seating outside is def first come first serve and all drinks must be ordered at the bar (no hostesses taking orders outside as I was told). Came here for my husbands bday to cap off the night and actually had a good experience. We made reservations for 6:15pm which was a good time for the month of September as sunset is a little earlier by now. We were still able to enjoy the terrace while there was some natural light and a good view of NYC. Eventually the place got lively and crowded but we had a good spot a little away from the crowd who usually sits by the front and by the firepit. service was good and we actually enjoyed the fries and the hummus. The fries had a really good dipping sauce and was fried so well we couldnt stop eating it lol the hummus had a bit of spiciness but was also good nonetheless. We didnt really drink much so cant say a lot about that part. parking can be tough though and may be a little bit of a walk if you cant find street parking. But anyway if youre just here for nice few eats and the view, this spot is one great option to have that. read more

I have been on this rooftop a couple of times for different occasions and have always loved the ambiance, the music, and the incredible view. I was here last week and seemed to have changed a lot from what I remembered. It was noisy, there was nowhere to sit outside and you couldn't even hear the other person talking because the music was too loud and not very enjoyable music. I love the view but it has changed with time. Servers tend to be very busy now and the food and drinks are still pretty good. read more

It's been years since I've been to this rooftop and I'll say it changed for the worse! I went with a big group to get drinks and that's where we should've stopped at. Some of us decided to get food but we had to go inside because they don't serve food at the couches outside (weird). They don't really have any appetizers anymore. Everything is full sized so we had to get separate burgers and shared fries. The burgers were pretty awful. Way too oily and me and my mom threw it up because it hurt our stomachs. The fries were also unreasonably salty. The food was just a huge let down and I hope they revamp it because it used to be good. The service was also pretty bad for it not being so busy. Aside from that I had the lychee martini and that was delicious. The views and the decor are their saving grace. read more

I would give 5 stars for the view, but that is about it. If you like a club vibe, this is a good place. I don't mind a club vibe, but I prefer to have that after 9 PM. Since I was staying at the Hyatt House, I decided to go check out their happy hour. In all honesty it was decent, good pricing. The drinks were okay, but the food was definitely not tasteful (unless you like all your food drowned in some kind of sauce). I got seated, and they seated me in a location that was partially outside, but behind a sorta door and I think I just got forgotten, so I chased someone down. I started off with the Smokey Spice ($17 and not on te HH menu). It was good, nothing special but it was well balanced. I chose to have the Bang Bang Cauliflower ($7) and Chared Brocollini Caesar ($8). The breading on the caulflower was thick, so it was a little doughy, but what was really bad was the sweet and spicy sauce - it was everywhere, and just did not taste that great. The Caesar was not a caesar. It was brocollini that was charred with a ton of sauce on it. The parmasean on it was stacked so high, I thought I might get burried by it. I did go back for happy hour drink again, and tried the smokey Manhattan. Unfortunately it was made and just sat for probably 10 minutes before it was delivered to me (I was actually sitting at the bar this time), so it tasted horrible, I could not even drink it. On the plus side, one of my colleagues recommended the Espresso Martini which I got for my "dessert". It was good. So - for food I cannot recommend, for drinks it is hit or miss. For the view, just WOW. I would definitely go back for that. read more
