Hoboken Waterfront has plenty of good spots for Dinner and this is definitely one of them. Place looked very cute with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Food and Drinks are reasonably priced, and both the quality and quantity was good. Food Menu is somewhat limited though, especially if you are vegetarian. Not a problem for me but just a headsup. They do seem to have more options on their Brunch Menu. Staff were attentive and helpful. We were seated at the Bar, and I was with a friend who tends to act a little touchy when drunk but the Bartender kept an eye on him and the moment my friend stepped out, checked up on me too see if I was okay. I was excited to dine at The Lola since it recently reopened in February with a new concept and chef. The atmosphere delivered in elegance. Lots of greenery and a fun logo of an espresso martini. There is an open bar right when you walk in as the vantage point. Booth and table seating available. Lively music playing to add to the energy of the restaurant. At times, it did make it a little difficult to talk. Our reservation was honored on time, and the service was excellent. I was surprised at the limited options on the menu for my personal taste. We had the burrata with onions and garlic. This was packed with flavor, a little overwhelming on the garlic. Next, my friend and I shared the halibut and spicy rigatoni with a side of brussel sprouts. My favorite of all three ordered was the spicy rigatoni, which had a nice zing and the sauce was creamy. The portion size of Brussels sprouts (listed as a side) was much larger than the entrees. All dishes had a nice taste. I would consider these dishes to be comparable to other restaurants and average in taste. For dessert, I ordered the lemon blueberry bread pudding. The consistency tasted more like a loaf than bread pudding. Still enjoyed this dessert option. The espresso martinis were amazing! As I left, The Lola started to bring more crowds in. I would visit again, but most likely for cocktails considering the atmosphere. read more

2/5. I wouldn't come back. I really wanted to like The Lola, but unfortunately it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. The food itself was decent, but it was extremely underseasoned. It felt like the kitchen tried to compensate by drenching everything in compound butter or heavily seasoned oil instead of properly seasoning the food itself. The service, however, was the biggest issue. It was genuinely terrible from start to finish. Our server never explained that the restaurant operates family style or gave us any overview of the menu, yet she let us order several individual dishes without mentioning it. When we arrived, the hostess seated us, and the restaurant was noticeably hot. I was sweating the entire meal, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. After being seated, no one came to our table for nearly 15 minutes. We eventually had to flag someone down just to place our order. Before we even ordered, we were told that nearly half the menu was already sold out, even though it was only around 7:00 PM. After waiting another 20 to 30 minutes, nothing had arrived. No drinks, no water, nothing. We flagged our server down again to ask for water, and she suddenly realized something was wrong. She went to the back and eventually admitted that our order had never been entered because her tablet had supposedly malfunctioned. She then informed us that the appetizers we originally ordered had sold out while we were waiting. Another 10 to 15 minutes later, our food finally arrived. Between the disappointing food, the excessive heat, and the poor service, we only managed a few bites before asking for the check so we could leave. To make matters worse, after all of this, the restaurant still added a 3.5% "restaurant fee" to the bill. Charging an additional fee after providing such a poor experience felt insulting. If you're looking for an aesthetically pleasing restaurant and don't mind sacrificing service or consistency, Lola might be worth a visit. But if you actually care about good hospitality and a well run dining experience, I'd recommend skipping Lola and heading to Halifax instead. read more

As you could tell from my previous review, I had not been a huge fan of The Lola, but I had heard that they had completely redone the space and menu to make it more upscale. So, I figured it would be worth revisiting. Well, what was once an Instagram haven with a grass wall, neon signs, and insanely bright lighting was now a dimly lit, refined dining room and lounge. The large televisions were displaying digital fireplace scenes, rather than sports games or movies. The menu had also been improved to offer options for a more refined palate. While we did not dine there, I was surprised to see everything from a pork chop with "Alabama white miso BBQ" to a 10-ounce ribeye with au poivre sauce. The cocktail list also had been refurbished to get rid of things like sugary sour mix and replace them with craft ingredients like basil oil and rose honey. I selected the Desert Glow beverage for a steep $19. The drink included blanco tequila, Aperol, grapefruit, lime, and prosecco. It was a great balance of smoke, bitters, and citrus with a touch of sweetness. The service that we received at the bar was also very friendly and welcoming. The mac and cheese croquettes were creamy, cheesy little bites of heaven -- seriously, comfort food perfection. I made a reservation online for a party of 14 at Lola because the restaurant requires any group larger than 8 people to submit reservations online. I even called ahead to confirm, and I was told that online reservations were the only way to book a large party. When we arrived on Saturday, the host said she could not find our reservation. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet we were asked to wait at the front door while she repeatedly called managers and tried to locate it. For over 30 minutes, she kept asking for my information multiple times and making additional calls. Eventually, she came back and said their reservation system was having issues. After making us wait for half an hour, she simply said, "Sorry, I can't take you in." This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We had a confirmed reservation, the restaurant had plenty of available tables, and yet we were turned away after wasting 30 minutes of our time. We left and walked over to Ainsworth. Despite having no reservation and the same party of 14 people, they welcomed us immediately and accommodated our group without any problems. The difference in customer service was night and day. Lola lost the business of 14 paying customers because they couldn't resolve a reservation issue or find a way to accommodate a large group in an almost empty restaurant. Crowd was very mixed, a lot of birthday celebrations, DJ/music was fine (low enough to have a conversation at the table). On the louder side were few groups of young people who became visibly and audibly more and more intoxicated. Bathrooms need more up-keeping, toilet paper rolls on the floor, overflowing garbage. We didn't do 90 mins bottles brunch, just ordered from the menu. Limited section of pricey cocktails without specific menu to choose from. Drinks we were able to order tasted fine. Nasty tap water. Food was ok. Gravy on thin chicken and waffles watery Benedict was not good- greasy, bland and visually unappealing. Salmon and steak on salads were very good. Chef's board was uneventful and had strange selection of vegetables rather than more cold cuts & cheeses. Prices are reasonable for location and vibe they're going for but it's still a brunch menu (with decent portions). Our server was nice and attentive, however we were given a check after a little over an hour without being asked if we were done or want any additional drinks/food (which we did). This spots reviews are definitely accurate and this was by far one of the biggest disappointments I've had at a brunch restaurant especially in Hoboken. I attended as part of a larger party (7 people total) for a reservation that was made ahead of time for a good friend's bridesmaid brunch. We should've gone somewhere else when making the reservation the girl on the phone said people pay more to be seated against the windows in a corner table. Who tries to extort money for a table reservation, as this is not a club with bottle service. Upon arriving they had a DJ and it was definitely going for more of a club brunch vibe. This was fine although the later it got in the day the louder the music seemed to get to the point where our party was screaming at each other to try to talk. Our server Jenilee M had an attitude the entire meal that was completely unwarranted. We understood there is a 90 minute dining experience during peak weekend hours. Our party arrived at 12pm and some of our party arrived late but we were all seated at the table by no later than 1215pm. Every 20 or so minutes our server came over to rudely tell us the countdown timer on how long we had left on our table. That is by far the rudest thing to do to paying customers. Our server also took our initial food and first round of drinks order and never once asked how our food was or if anyone ever needed additional drinks. The only time she came to the table was again to tell us the remaining time. From 12pm to 145pm when we left not a single additional table or reservation arrived. So if you have no new business coming in why rush out the willing paying customers you have. I'm glad we left because we were not given the option to get additional drinks at all. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake French toast. It was good but nothing special. The potato board we ordered for our table could've been great but the fries were soggy seeming almost uncooked. The only edible ones were the sweet potato fries and most of it was cold by the time it came to us. Yet again to flag our server down to complain was impossible as she only seemed to appear to remind us how long of time we had remaining and then would rudely disappear before you could even talk to her. Our unpleasant server promptly placed the bill on our table once the 90 minute mark occurred and it felt like the most uncomfortable awkward stare from her. I do not understand how someone in the service industry could be so unfriendly and honestly just rude to paying customers. The most frustrating part of this was when paying our bill an automatic 20% gratuity was included. Our service was absolutely horrible and she did not deserve a 20% gratuity. The attitude and lack of service was terrible. I've thought about calling the restaurant directly and complaining to management but it doesn't seem worth my time as I'm sure nothing would change and I can gladly say I will never go back and make sure to not recommend this spot. read more

Hosted a Sunday birthday brunch for myself and 4 other friends here. I called in for the reservation and had to leave a credit card to hold the reservation. We all arrived at different timings and still unable to find any street parking,...we didnt expect to. So had to pay $35 for all day Sunday parking. We ordered the steak and eggs, pancakes, french toast, lola tradition. We loved the french toast and pancakes. Our steak and eggs were cooked as expected. The only criticism is I would liked for our waffle fries to be more than a few pieces, especially paying the extra $8 for the dish and would like them cooked a tad bit crispier. The night was lovely so my fellow diners and I sat outside facing the water with a cool breeze. The waitstaff were lovely and super attentive. I ended up going to this place back to back on the same weekend, so was able to experience a Saturday night and a Sunday brunch. Saturday night the music was not good at all and I didn't really want to come back because of it. The food overall was delicious and flavorful and the drinks that I had that night were strong. For the Sunday brunch the next day, the DJ was so much better and it was an amazing vibe of food and drinks. The unlimited drink menu for brunch was also amazing and super cool that they had different options that you could switch from to try. My food for the brunch came out overdone so I had to ask for it again and it came back correct, medium rare. Overall, the food was good and the drinks were good. Though the server was friendly both nights the service was slow and disorganized from the kitchen all around both nights and that Saturday night wasn't busy at all when we were there for a 6 PM reservation. The service and coordination fell well below expectations. I've never had an experience like this. 1. I had updated our reservation by phone from 9 to 13 guests. A friend of mine had previously shared that changes made by phone at The Lola weren't always reflected in person, so I took the extra step of reserving a second table just in case. It's a good thing I did--because when we arrived, the table was only set for 9, and we did in fact need the second table to accommodate our group. 2. Once seated, we were told our 90-minute timer began immediately--yet no server came to our table for the first 20 minutes. I eventually had to get up and ask, "Is a server going to take our order? I know our time started, but no one has come to introduce themselves or take orders." It was frustrating to be told our time was running while receiving no service at all. 3. I confirmed by phone that a minor could be included in our bottomless drinks for the full price and be served juice. We agreed to this, but when we ordered, the waitress said it wasn't possible. Only after speaking with other staff was it honored. 4. A server attempted to deliver plates by reaching across our long table--spilling a drink onto my clothes and into my French toast. We were told there were no more French toast sticks available, so I lost that part of my meal entirely. (It was taken off the bill and we got a new server, thank you) 5. The bathroom had no stocked toilet paper in dispensers. Instead, rolls were on the toilet seats and floor, which was unsanitary and unpleasant. 6. We had pre-ordered the $50 birthday celebration (cake, sparklers, and shots). When it didn't arrive, we asked and were told it wasn't ordered. Once reordered, only the cake came out, no sparklers or shots, and again I had to inquire about the missing items. We never received the sparklers at all. 7. I constantly found myself having to remind the staff about commitments they had already agreed to. I felt like I was micromanaging service that should have been proactively delivered. 8. Despite our group spending over $1,100 across two tables, we were told we were "over time" just as we were ordering another $120 round of shots. I privately asked a hostess if we could stay a bit longer since there were visibly empty tables and we were still spending. She said she'd speak to the manager, but she never returned. 9. I was shocked and embarrassed to walk out of the restroom to find my family being escorted out by security. We are respectful, working professionals and had never experienced anything like that before. 10. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told she was in a meeting. Eventually, Jas arrived, and after hearing a portion of our concerns, she said she would comp the bill. I appreciated her acknowledging our experience. This experience made us feel like we were being mistreated--not just ignored, but actively dismissed and pushed out. I wanted The Lola to be part of a joyful memory with my friends and family, but it became a source of stress and embarrassment instead. read more

There were cute Christmas decorations hanging from the ceiling and it was a chill vibe. It was pretty empty when my family came, so that definitely added to the serene vibe. There was a cool little kind of Photo Booth in the corner which was consisted of a ring light camera and a tablet which my family I were able to use for pictures- all for free! They came out pretty nice, no complaints at all. The drinks were great. I personally didn't drink anything but my family members only had good things to say about the drinks. The last good thing to mention before i start mentioning this less than mediocre food was the good service. Shoutout to the two servers that helped us- these lovely young ladies were quick, helpful and very sweet. They had Christmas colors themed colors on too, pretty cute! Unfortunately, now comes the bad. I'd dare say it was about 80% of the food. There were about 9 of us, and at least 5 of us weren't big fans. There were a myriad of food items ordered of course so I'll just list each we had an issue with. The Birria Burger was not too great. My brother-in-law complained that he didn't like it. The penne ale vodka which I ordered wasn't all that, didn't taste like anything special. The fries which we shared were cardboardish and not at all flavorful- a sentiment shared amongst multiple members of my family. Shrimp that I had eaten from another family member's plate was a poor excuse for shrimp. Another of my family members didn't even finish his dish, which was a kind of pasta. Been thinking about trying this place for a while but I was a bit reluctant because some reviews are great and others not so great , but I decided to try for myself and I'm glad I did . Place is beautiful and very clean , also conveniently located just a few blocks from the path right on Sinatra drive by the park . The bar is nice and big with a great variety of alcohol . We had the pan seared salmon with asparagus and asked for a side of polenta and it was great , nicely cooked . The drinks are good too , I have a frozen puns colada and it was so worth the price because it actually had alcohol in it . I also love the pretty decor with the roses and they have nice signs and a photo wall . Service was ok, they were helpful but I honestly expect people to be a bit more friendly instead of sounding like robots . But aside from that all went well . So I told the waitress I needed a minute and it took her like 10 minutes to come back. That being said, my food came out like 10-15 minutes after everyone else. Our waitress kept disappearing so we had to ask other ppl for things like more drinks and napkins. The food was good I will give them that. But they also ran out of boxes at the end of the night?? You tell me what restaurant runs out of boxes. On top of that, the bathroom was nasty. The garbage was overflowing and it was too gross in there for a restaurant bathroom. Positives: the DJ was good and the picture section is very nice. This place is aesthetically pleasing and has potential but there are some serious service issues.
