Tammy baked our wedding cake for just under 200 people on October 26th 2019. We went with a 5 tier naked cake that was adorned with fresh flowers. Our florist provided the flowers and Tammy arranged them beautifully on the cake. The cake was delicious! Not dry at all, super moist and the perfect level of sweetness. For the cake we did combinations of confetti, Italian wedding, and chocolate cake with nutella, espresso and salted caramel buttercream. Everyone loved it and we got (and still get) so many compliments on our cake. I scheduled an appointment via email with Tammy the owner for a gender reveal cake. During our meeting, not only she provided my husband and I with different ideas for our cake but she was very personable and took the time to get to know us and shared great conversations about pregnancy. The final product was simply wonderful. Our cake was beautiful and Tammy even managed to put fresh strawberries inside just like I was hoping for. Cute boutique dessert shop with all the dessert shop flair. This shop is very appealing to the eye with clean-cut white displays that really highlight the color of the treats and cake pops. I love all the pink accents and accessories throughout the shop. The desserts I ordered were all kind of flavorless and missing that decadent gourmet taste. I brought a box of desserts (cupcakes, cookie dough brownies, peanut butter cookies) down for my brother for his birthday. I left a whole box of treats for him and his friends and I never heard anything back about how they tasted. I've tried several different items here on several different trips. So far the only thing that would draw me back in are the s'more peanut butter cookie sandwiches. The cookies are soft and the peanut butter really pops with the gooey chocolate and marshmallow. The Fuji Apple bread was pretty dry and void of flavor. The caramel brownie had rock hard caramel bits in it and was a feat to eat without choking. On one of my visits I did see the owner sit down with one of her customers to design her wedding cake. She was very patient and helpful and sat down with the young lady for over an hour helping her custom design her special cake. When I overheard her price quote, I couldn't believe my ears....one hundred something for a wedding cake!!?? Amazing deal! The cookies, cupcakes and cakes on their website look very nice and ...everything from cute cupcake puppy dogs to tiered rhinestone wedding cakes. Room for dessert put on a cupcake demo for a kids' party I attended. The kids had a blast baking and designing their own cupcakes. You can also book a cupcake decorating party at their shop for your special event. I will try out Room for Dessert when I need some sweet treats for any future special event. read more

Ruined my wedding cake! I met Tammy, the owner of Room for Dessert at a bridal fair and scheduled a wedding cake tasting with her. At my tasting, I sampled various flavors of cakes and frostings. I specifically told her I DID NOT WANT A CHOCOLATE WEDDING CAKE and I did not like her brown sugar spice holiday frosting for a late summer wedding. I told Tammy I wanted a 3 tier white cake with white frosting, and she noted that on the order sheet. She also told me she would put a purple ribbon around each tier to match my wedding colors. She asked me to send her a swatch of the bridesmaids dresses for her to match the ribbon to, which I did. I caleld Tammy two weeks before the wedding to confirm everything. She told me she received the swatch and would be putting matching purple ribbon on the cake. I also asked her to confirm cake flavors. She then said to me, "I HAVE YOU DOWN FOR A WHITE CAKE WITH WHITE FROSTING." On the day of the wedding, about an hour before the ceremony, I went into the hall where the reception was to be held and the cake on display for the whole room. Tammy had delivered the cake but in a room filled with ivory and purple everywhere, there was the cake with three BLUE ribbons all the way around each tier. It looked horrible. I tried to take the ribbon off but it was impossible. I was furious but I told myself to let it go because I was about to get married. When it came time for the cake cutting, you can imagine my horror when we cut the cake in front of all 80 guests and the cake was BLACK on the inside! She had made a black chocolate cake and the frosting was brown sugar spice! I was horrified. Had it matched my wedding colors better, maybe I wouldn't have minded so much but my theme was ivory and purple with white roses and pearls. IT TASTED HORRIBLE! It tasted like cardboard and the frosting we could barely chew. Many people told me they were disappointed with the cake. She completely ruined my wedding cake experience. It wasn't my birthday or just a party, but it was my wedding cake. I can't even put pictures with the cake in my album. I definitely will not be eating the cake topper next year. Im not into writing negative reviews but this was over the top. Tammy specifically made the cake out of the two things I told her most I did not want. I called her the day of my wedding and I never received a call back from her. Needless to say, I will NEVER use her again. read more

As I waited and stared into the display case, pondering the meaning of life, I began to feel like the bakery was frozen in time. You know, like some 80s bakery from childhood where they shellac the heck out of pretty pastries to make them good for all eternity. At last, a woman came to the front. I had my Groupon all ready to go! I ordered the cookie dough brownie, the toffee salt blondie, the butterfinger blondie, s'mores bar... I really went to town! When I took them home I prompty tried a piece of every one. Aaaaaannnnd.... nothing. No flavor. It was like they were actually made in the 80s. Oh no! I used Tammy at Room for Dessert for my wedding. After meeting her I was so excited because she said she could make this awesome cake pop cake I had found on Pinterest for my wedding. It was a three tiered cake made out of foam covered in fondant and pearled hombre beading and the hombre colored cake pops inserted into the tiered cake. I met with her a month before the wedding, tasted cake and went over all the final details and she emailed me a detailed invoice the week of the wedding. An hour before the wedding I peeked into the room and to my horror the "cake" was comprised of foam covered in pearlized construction paper taped together and was so flimsy the topper wouldn't sit on top without the entire cake falling over. It was horrifically cheap looking and awful. In addition we had agreed on 3 cake flavors, double chocolate, snickerdoodle, and Italian wedding however she did not make any Italian wedding!!! And the cake pops were supposed to be color coded and they most certainly we're not. She ruined my wedding cake and I am appalled at her ability to deliver such an awful excuse for a cake. The cake Tammy made for my daughter's birthday was an absolute and expensive disappointment. I wanted to have a rainbow cake made with natural dyes and Tammy said she was willing to do it. For an experienced baker this really shouldn't have been a problem. She also was to make a smaller version of the same cake for my daughter's smash cake. The colors were a joke. two of the tiers had no color. the red was the only one that was half way decent and the (disgraceful) colors that were there were OUT OF ORDER. --it's a rainbow, it's not that hard. She did not even attempt to put the rainbow tiers in my daughter's cake, just delivering a plain white cake. ALSO the cake was supposed to feed 45, a figure I TRIPLE confirmed with Tammy. When I picked it up she told me it would feed 25! Ridiculous. To top it all off, she charged me higher price than was quoted. So not only was the cake colored incorrectly and almost half the size than what it was supposed to be, it was 30% more expensive, going from $70 to $90. And I would have been fine with this, IF the cake was what it was supposed to be. The flavor was good, but the cake was way too dense and the bottom was very soggy. She should have been honest with me, told me the cake did not turn out as expected and charged me half the quoted price. Then I would have given her at least 3 or 4 stars and repeat business. Instead I was left with a disappointing cake, high bill, and bad taste in my mouth. My daughter's first birthday was great despite this disappointment, but I was really looking forward to this cake. (and I could have bought a better cake at the grocery store for much less!!) read more

Bought one of their Fuji apple coffee cakes at the Old Monterey Farmers Market. Sadly, there were no detectable apple chunks (maybe some apple in the icing?). Not much in the way of texture, either (what happened to the caramelization on the edges?). Looking for an after dinner sweet experience, we found this place and lucky for us, it was not only still open, but "happy hour" pricing in their last hour - and still had plenty of items to choose from. We bought about 5 different baked goods, one to eat the immediately, and the rest to bring home the next day for kids - which we quartered and shared so we could try a variety. Banana bread, lemon dream bar, cookie dough brownie, toffey blondie, peanut butter smores cookie. They were all delicious and creative and sometimes new (for me) combinations of sweets combined to make great bites. The store if cute, comfy and inviting of patrons to stay and eat in. OMG, I'm still dreaming about how delicious our red velvet/chocolate wedding cake was. We had a little bit during our reception and more for breakfast the next morning but I wish we had saved more! I wanted a simple, small cutting cake. Nothing elaborate in terms of design, but Tammy nailed it. I walked out of the sports center on Saturday afternoon and saw this place and was SO excited because I love cupcakes. The prices per cupcake are $2.50 each, which is the going rate for a good cupcake, and not a horrible price for a nice treat. So my son and I purchased 3 different kinds of cupcakes for after dinner. All three were dry, hard, and not very flavorful. The frosting was ok, but I expected cream cheese frosting for the red velvet cupcake because that's what I was told, and maybe there was some in there, but it was really hard to taste. On the plus side, the girl at the counter was very nice and friendly. And the place is really cute. But that's not what I'm paying for... Overall, not good cupcakes nor frosting. Maybe if you are willing to try them, eat them onsite so you can get a refund if they are not fresh, or if you are taking them to go, try to squish them a little to see if they have any softness. They opened up the weekend of 12/8/2012, and appear to be well on their way to introducing new treats to Monterey. My first visit there I had a cookie sandwich-two cookies with rich, delicious butter cream frosting in between, which was sinfully delicious. My last trip there I had a cookie-dough brownie-fresh cookie dough on the top, and moist brownie on the bottom.
