During the last move I had a small snag with the size of our corridor and called them in a bit of a panic. I bought a lateral queen wallbed from them over 16 years ago, and after regular (and vigorous) use, it's still in perfect condition. I love the bookshelf and lighting. It's my nest. When I moved a couple years ago, they sent me instructions on how to move the bed. The stairway in my new place has a low overhang that blocked one section of the bed. I have 4 pieces of Roomax furniture - custom wall bed, custom 84" long wardrobe, desk and credenza. They were all built to my specifications to exactly fit the space I had available. Astrid (owner) was very helpful in coming up with design solutions to best use the space I had, which was very limited with awkward alcoves. The solution she came up with was perfect and fully maximizes the small space I have in my 334 sq ft condo. The pieces are all much nicer than I expected, even after visiting the showroom and seeing the quality of materials. Everything is solid wood with beautiful veneer finishes - my pieces are all cherry. Every detail has been taken care of from rubber feet to protect my concrete floors to cedar lining and closet rods in every cabinet. I even have extra shelves if I ever decide to configure the cabinets differently. Roomax did everything possible to get the pricing to where it needed to be for my situation being sure to design within my budget. Their pieces are not cheap - you get what you pay for. On top of that they even went out of their way to deliver the pieces early so I would have as little time in my new condo with no bed. Awesome awesome awesome. (I do NOT give out 5 star reviews lightly. I think this is my first one.) Looked at other wall beds, but after visiting Roomax, my search was over! Quality, craftsmanship, and customer service. Where can you get that these days? And MADE IN SAN FRANCISCO! Started with just the wall bed, with plans to eventually add 2 cabinets and other pieces. After having the bed for a couple weeks, I went ahead and ordered the cabinets because I decided I couldn't wait! Custom designed what I wanted for my space (surprise! It's San Francisco and my room is oddly shaped with doors in all the wrong places.) A little bit more expensive than the other ones I looked at, but TOTALLY worth every dime. Once more Roomax has come through for us with a unique creative design, all in wood (no particle board, no plastic), that fits a confined space and combined a number of functions. Nothing standard would fit the space! Or come close on functionality! And cost wise, it is not that different than the fancy furniture stores! After much searching this was the best solution and deal, by far. This time they came up with a great bedroom wall unit that did the impossible in one confined space... combining a desk (computer, laptop or with tower below) (the desk is a pull out/lock-in-place drawer with a solid wood top surface...allowing leg room below, but otherwise out of the way when not in use), a pull out (accordion door) printer space under...with a slide out drawer for access, a standard storage cabinet, bookcase shelves to the ceiling, and (since it is a guest bedroom) a dresser with 4 drawers....I would post a photo if I figure out how to show all the functionality! Just an incredibly creative solution to a difficult spot, with off dimensions. I am also enamored with a simple spice rack that has finally put order an organization to our kitchen. I know, I know....nothing special. Well you are wrong! It makes a world of difference to any self-respecting cook. No more fumbling with spice jars, no more ugly half used space....Just perfect! I actually haven't purchased anything from them, but I've shopped here to compare products and prices with their competitors. They're more expensive than their competitors because they use solid wood, not particle board interiors and melamine finishes. They also seem to be much more into custom sized pieces and I'm not certain whether their standard sized pieces of furniture would be less expensive than custom sized pieces of the same design of furniture. They also seemed to be very interested in not only making pieces custom sized to fit, but also with any features you might want. They seemed very helpful when I was asking a lot of questions. read more

We love them! We compared them to California Closets and another custom builder, and these guys were the best. They came out pretty close to California Closets in price, but Roomax uses real wood. The other two we looked at used composites overlaid with a finish. Also, they did some custom work for us that California Closets, a franchise outfit, wouldn't or couldn't do. Their service was outstanding -- they went way beyond the call of duty to meet our totally unreasonable time schedule, working overtime right near the holidays. read more

A few years ago, we needed a Murphy bed added to a guest room/office in our small house. Astrid worked through the plans to get the right layout and size and integrate with a desk and drawers so the room could be both an office and guest room as needed. The result has been fantastic, and the quality is obvious after several years of use. The Murphy bed mechanism is very easy to open and close, and the whole setup is also beautiful. I looked a long time for a wall bed I could move if I were moving, would like as long as I lived, was easy for me to open and close, that did not cost an arm and a leg. I never thought I'd find anything as beautiful as the bed and desk set Roomax built for me. The wood grain is nothing exquisite. The function is smooth and easy. It did not have to be bolted to the wall -- although it will need disassembly if I move. And it cost less than anything nearly comparable. The other thing is that Roomax is the complete package: Not only was there service immediate, but Astrid bent over backwards to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. She worked on the design and on the pricing three different times with me. And included a small bookcase as a gift at the end because my budget could stretch no further. I recently remodeled my large studio in San Francisco and I was sick of sleeping on sofa beds for the last 6 years. I did my homework and decided that Roomax had just what I needed. I purchased a beautiful mahogany queen size wall bed system with two armoires on each side and plenty of storage for my clothes. My requirements were office furniture for a fairly large room (over 200 sq ft), with book cases lining one wall and credenzas, desks, and hutches along the other walls. Roomax sent someone out to measure and spec out my requirements. Of all the companies I contacted for this part of the project I felt that Roomax performed the most professional and thorough job. They took careful measurements of the room and the entire file storage space that I will need (based on existing files). About a week later they provided a pretty good set of plans for my office space. We were impressed that the design took advantage of every nook and cranny of space in the room while retaining my original ideas. It showed that some extra thought was put into the design. Unlike their competitors they use solid wood (3/4" plywood with attractive wood veneers) instead of particle boards/melamine. After visiting their showroom, seeing some finished products, and touring their production shop, we decided to go with Roomax as part of my office renovation. Roomax's prices are about in the middle when compared with competitors, but we felt their materials and customer service were superior. Workmanship appears to be on a par with competitors. However, we liked that they do all their carpentry and assembly locally on site (SF). Many months later (of course, the renovation took a lot longer than planned) we were ready for the new furniture. Roomax was great in scheduling a delivery day that was convenient for me. Their crew came on time and brought everything (six floor-to-ceiling bookcases, three large cabinet credenzas, two 7-ft hutches, and desks) into the house without a single ding to the house. Once the stuff was inside the house they meticulously assembled things. Guess what? My room isn't level. So the team had to level all the components to look good. They also provided flat plugs for outlets that will be covered by furniture. Best of all they did some on-site customization to the backs of the cabinets so that I can access electrical, cable and network outlets easily. At the end, the office looks fabulous and I can't be more satisfied with the results. Roomax is a first-class outfit. I purchased a chestbed (a platform with drawers) more than 15 years ago. Years later I had a wall credenza and a bedroom linen closet made. Four years ago I got a new platform bed (different height and size) and a slanted headboard (you can sit up in bed and lean against it) with sliding doors to store all the books clock glasses water etc. one wants within reach. After many moves, visitors, little kids' climbing up etc. it all holds up beautifully; the drawers on sliding supports work perfectly and hold tons of stuff, the solid oak with a stain is still beautiful and the occasional ding or crayon mark (!) is easy enough to clean. Even ordinary bookshelves are worth every penny; everything holds up well; solid wood furniture is lighter-weight to move, much sturdier, and has ten times the lifetime of Ikea's particle-board bits. If you are thinking about the planet, or hoping to use the furniture for a lifetime please shop here. My first platform bed resides in a friend's house, looks wonderful, and will be used by him for decades more. This review is long overdue. Last fall I had a Murphy Bed made for my home. It is gorgeous and so functional that my sister, it was for her, said she has never had such a comfortable night sleep in years. I also purchased a mattress. I met Astrid and Abraham first. They measured my space, my previous office, and configured a bed that worked and was so attractive. They were helpful, professional and kind. Shortly thereafter Abraham and Carlos arrived to install the " masterpiece", and it was. They worked diligently and added this beautiful piece of furniture to my home. I bought a "captains" bed from roomax over 2 years ago. The bed is great....very well built. The movers did a great job of delivering the bed, up until they damaged the bed by moving it over a small nail that was protruding from the floor. When I asked the sales person to replace the $75 piece of wood that was damaged, she gave me a hell of a time...originally refusing to take responsibility for the damage and frankly being quite mean and rude to me. Needless to say, I thought it was incredibly poor customer service to refuse to replace a piece of the bed that the movers damaged, considering that I had spent well over $1,000 for the bed. I finally got the sales lady to replace the piece, but I had to drive out to SF from Richmond to exchange the damaged piece for the new one. I had originally planned to buy more items from Roomax, but after this experience, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Had the customer service been better, I would have been this place 4 or 5 stars. read more
