Very nice, clean community center. This evening they had a small car show, raffle for the kids, a DJ, lots of kid events, a food truck, and even free popsicles. It was nice seeing the community come together and enjoy a family oriented event. The police showed up with a 1960's. Cop car "see picture" very cool! Decent weight room for a community center but not clean and the bathroom is full of old men having a whole shower routine in there. Only two great things are the location and the great basketball trainer we found there in the outdoor courts. Sadly there more bad then good and they never do anything about the homeless people and rvs parked there with all the shady people I'm always worried about my kids going there alone without us. read more

Update, July 2017: great staff and nice facility, overall. I ended up getting a membership at another fitness center because the equipment constantly breaks, and it takes a long time to fix. I do appreciate the many years that I was a member (I miss coming by each week), and hope that the staff gets trained on how to manage a fitness center the right way. I really enjoy the new Roosevelt Community Center, which opened in December, 2008. The facility is state-of-the-art and provides a comfortable, spacious atmosphere. I'm a member at the Roosevelt gym and paid only $120.00 for a one-year membership...no contract required. In addition to that, if you work out in the morning, like me, it isn't overly crowded like most gyms. It's a deal that you can't beat! Roosevelt also provides the youth in the area a place to congregate afterschool to participate in constructive activities...equipped with a computer lab, game room and studios where activities like dance or yoga class can be facilitated. On top of the gym and recreation opportunities--Roosevelt has community meeting rooms that residents/non-profits/city agencies can gather for meetings, celebrations, etc...it has everything. The only down-side that I can think of is that some of the staff may need a customer service training or two. read more

Yay to a cheap gym. I just want to run and weight lift. I dont take classes, I dont use any of the machines. I JUST WANT TO RUN. I would run outside for free, but I dont sweat very much and need lots of fans and air conditioning to keep me cool. This place is perfect for that. No initiation fee and I was able to get 3 months of gym membership for $50. They dont provide towels, but Im just paying to use the treadmill. There are large tv's and enough machines so you dont have to wait and there aren't large crowds of people. Plus, with less people, there is less of a chance of getting those creepy stares. The restrooms are very clean and have a shower and lockers. There is also a dance studio, which I do my weights in because I like my alone time. I think there are tons of other things to do here, but im not sure what those things are. I do see a lot of teenagers and elderly hang about. All I know is, is that I have a place to call my gym and that is here. The only bad thing is that Treat ice cream factory is across the street. read more

I mainly go here to use the Recreational Skatepark which is a great place to skate and get exercise. Good trannys from easy to more experienced. Good room to improve or show off. Also has a mini 12foot (deep) pool that also has tiles and can be a beast to ride. Mostly bowls and trannys, very little street perks but no complaints here. I often bring my kids to play in the playgrounds which also is nice and has various levels of heights and difficulty? Tends to have alot of trash even tho I often see people picking up lots of trash. Must be due to careless people in the park consistently not caring about providing a clean environment for kids. In my opinion, the Playground needs a fence (the skate park does why not the playground?), because little kids tend to take off running and there is a busy 4-lane street just 100ft away (safety issue) Might keep the riffraff from meandering through the "family oriented" sections. Poor safety planning on a government level. Never have been inside the building but the Architecture looks new, modern and inviting. Will have to take a look next time I go. Pros: OMG there is a skatepark not far from where I live and I can take my kids to play when I go. Plus its FREE. Cons: Trashy and at times shady people vary in and out of park (smoking pot) and possible drug deals going on here and there. Suggestions: The Playground needs a fence. Maybe code enforcement should make routine stops just to make an impression to keep the atmosphere safe and clean. read more

Pretty much only commenting on the skate park since. I recently started skating again and this place is perfect for learning and those with a big bag of tricks as well. features are fairly low to get your tricks dialed in, but plenty of area for creativity and adding difficult combos. the combo-bowl is probably the most fun feature here and perfect for just about any skill to have fun with. There are some characters around, definitely. But so what, mind your business and you'll be fine. read more

I wish they kept the roller hockey rink open on the weekends. My son and his friend are on spring break and wanted to come and check it out. Unfortunately, they were closed this weekend. I saw a local flyer that gave information about roller hockey classes. That might be something to check out. Over the summer, the city of San Jose had a program called Viva Parks that offered special events at parks around the city. It was pretty cool. We got to a chance to come to Roosevelt Park. They had free roller skating and a free movie. There were small booths set up for games. A local Zumba teacher was teaching a quick class. The event staff hosted free pizza from Lil Caesars. The mayor even showed up. Last year, I signed up my son for flag football. Due to low enrollment, the flag football session got cancelled. He was bummed. Maybe they can get more kids to join this year. I have met a two of the staff members. They are friendly, outgoing people. This location is lucky to have them. We will be enrolling in guitar and ukulele lessons soon. We can't wait. All in all, this is a great location is a great asset to the community. read more

This center is located in the heart of Santa Clara street closest to downtown. This place has a fitness center, teen center, preschool, and senior program. I have visited the center in the last couple months and they've really stepped up their game up. There are new bright banners all over the center to high light the centers prigrams. The Teen Center is growing and have came a long way these couple of months. Having a place for our teens are important because the Teen Center keeps them engaged and out of the streets. The Preschool program is a amazing. They have great prices and just by seeing preschool room, you can really see the love and care they put in to the program. Over all, the center has elevated programing to another level and its becoming the center that the community truely deserves. read more

Sad that I'll be moving soon. I currently live across the street and it's incredibly convenient to have a gym AND classes right there for a very cheap price. For $29 a month you get unlimited classes and gym access. I don't know of any other kind of gym that has that kind of deal, and it's even cheaper if you sign up for an annual pass. The GroupX deal (that's what they call the fitness access at San Jose community centers) is really good and I'm not entirely sure why someone would pay twice as much or more to go elsewhere. But then again, I don't need a fancy gym. The facilities themselves are pretty small and yep, it's a community center, so you'll have dirty bathrooms and the equipment won't be the classiest. But there are options, including free weights, kettlebells and such, and all the standards. It doesn't get overly crowded. I've definitely still been able to find a machine or get access to weights on a Monday night, for example. Plus there's the unlimited classes. Yoga twice a week for less than $30 a month? Plus gym access?! The yoga studios downtown will charge $100+ just for 5 classes, so you can see why it's a steal. Ginny is also a very nice instructor that likes to accommodate for her students. (Give her the big room, Roosevelt! :-) ) So 4 stars for being a community center - you'll get what you pay for and shouldn't expect anything super classy or personal fitness trainers on stand by. It's also urban getting towards East San Jose, so expect the usual homeless person wandering around outside and trash. But it's really 5 stars if you're just an average person looking to work out for a very good price. read more

It had been years since I went to a gym and I was apprehensive to say the least. The staff are helpful and the gym is clean. I wish it had better AC but for the price I pay I have no complaints. The opening hours can be difficult with my work schedule, it opens at 6am and closes at 8pm but I make it work. A good local gym with a good community spirit. Downside, the homeless tend to congregate in the park and sometimes try and sneak in to use the shower. read more

I sent my kid to Roosevelt Community Center for Summer Camp 2012. Pros: they have a lot of art activity in the traditional camp, good place for your kids to learn art. Cons: whenever my son came home, his body had the soil smelling and his bright clothes and shoes turned into the dark color, no exceptional. They let the kids shoot at each other, my son came home with the red and watery eye. So dangerous for the little kids. Employee (Staff serving in the camp) here are so unprofessional in communication with the clients. I asked staff to show my kid where I left the lunch bag, she told me that was not her duty. My kid could stay hungry all day long. I ended up in the battle with her irresponsibility attitude. I feel high risk when putting my son into this camp center. read more

I like the place a lot drop in gym only $5.50. Very new community gym center all the equipment is nice new and clean. Gym has music playing and tvs. Located next to south bay batting cages makes it convienent for me to work out while my son had batting practice. read more

Skatepark review: This place is pretty cool. The combi-bowl is fuuunnnnn. The bigger bowl is a little small but only by Cunningham standards...it's still fun and challenging. the street course flows pretty good and works with the rest of the park. There is also a 4 or 5 stair gazeebo outside the gate that I saw some guys skating. One of the best aspects of the park is that it is laid back and you can pretty much ride pad free if you want. Being that it's set in Roosevelt park, you can expect to find some interesting characters. It's a good addition to San Jose's upcoming scene and a good change of pace from Cunningham. read more

I love this gym. I use the machines as well as take classes. Love the yoga class taught by Ginny, I can't miss it, very addicting and invigorating. Spin class is great. Not very crowded, clean bathrooms and very nice staff. For $29 a month, I can take all classes and have unlimited access to the gym. You can't beat that! read more

This Review is for the San Jose Recreational Preschool Little Learners and KinderPrep program at Roosevelt community center. They run a program which is on par with most private schools. The teachers and aides are are beyond exceptional! They run a tight ship but in the most gentle and patient way possible because at the end of the day kids thrive in an environment where boundaries and expectations are set and met with patience and love! My girls graduated today and the level of preparation blew most parents away. We were all expecting an informal type gathering but anything but! The kids had gowns and caps, there was a whole stage set up and a short presentation! I would highly recommend this program at this location above others especially the Berryessa Community Center. The teachers were always accommodating if we had to drop Kids earlier or a few minutes late without making it a big deal and it truly felt we were treated as a family than cattle signing in and out at drop of/pick up time! At Berryessa Community Center we had to wait till 1pm on the dot then doors would be unlocked, sign in, say goodby and it was 1:10pm by the time I'd leave or later if I was at the back of the line. At Roosevelt even if we were a few minutes early, I could sign in then and there and kids could participate in free play. Thank you to the teachers and supervisor Rhonda Vargas at Roosevelt for making our first exposure to school such a positive and memorable one!! read more

I attended the senior program a couple of times, and it is very well run with excellent food and entertainment. Want to get fit? No worries, Roosevelt has an excellent, clean gym, great prices for membership and has attentive staff that is caring and willing to help. The Roosevelt Community Center is perfect for someone who wants to utilize the gym. It has wonderful GroupX classes. My favorites are the Spin and Strength Training classes. The instructor really gives me a great workout. I leave very satisfied and get rid of all of my stress from the day. In addition, I do sweat and feel that I have burned a lot of calories. The people at the reception desk are very helpful and will help with great big smiles on their faces. I would highly recommend this Community Center because of the GroupX and Gym. read more

Okay I can see why its a cheaper gym and soooooo not worth it unless you have a WIDE open schedule!!!. They have very short hours and NOT accessible for those who work from 9-5. Who wants to get up at 6am?? I work those hours and I have to try very hard to make it in before 8pm M-Thur. Most of the time the treadmills(because they only have 5 and if one is broken they take forever to fix) are all taken up. So I have to go an hour before they close b/c that's about when I can sometimes get in. Really??!!? An hour to do what I want?? Don't get me wrong the facility is decent and so is the staff but I would not sign up for a member ship here. You'll be regretting it and they need to purchase more treadmills (duh it is a popular equiptment) ALSO they should consider adding hours to their weekdays perhaps till 9pm instead of 8 ans well as their weekend hours(only open 9-1 on Sats, not open Sun). read more
