Tasty banh mi and all around good Vietnamese bites. I had been disappointed by banh mi options in Austin so its nice to stumble upon a shop with crispy airy bread like how I had it in Vietnam. The price is steep for Vietnamese food, $9+ for banh mi, and protein is a little scarce in some dishes like the curry. Banh mi bread is soft and won't cut the roof of your mouth. The garlic aioli butter is decadent yet leaving you wanting more. The lemongrass chicken is always moist and tender. The veggies are not traditionally cut or thick enough for some banh mi connoisseurs. Lately, I've been obsessed with the Asian slaw with added chicken. It's refreshing and light. It's been many years since I've visited Roostar on Gessner. Ever since they opened their galleria location I have not stepped foot on this original store. Upon walking in, I noticed that their small shop has grown slightly more spacious and their menu has grown as well. I got my usual grilled pork banh mi, but this time with lettuce wrap instead of bread. I am so pleased that they have this option as I've been limiting carbs for health reasons, and it's literally a banh mi lettuce wrap! So delicious! The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and their pork is the same tender and delicious as I always remembered. Thank you Roostar for offering protein style for those of us who are carb-conscious! My husband got the ribeye banh mi and he savored every bite. I tried and little and the meat was also very very yummy. We also got a side of garlic bread rolls that comes free with check-in on Yelp.
