It is a very family-friendly establishment, as there are plenty of foods and drinks to choose from, but also boozy brunch drinks as well. The menu is so extensive, but not too hard to choose from. We ordered the chicken crepe and the lemon crepe and split each in half to share. I preferred the lemon crepe, as I think that the chicken could have had a sauce element to enhance it even more (although it was already delicious). The interior was so beautiful, we really admired the aesthetic that they had created. It was pretty busy, but our server managed us and her other guests well. So i have been to the other Rooster location three or so times now and have not been disappointed. Rooster downtown honestly felt like a way less disappointing sister restaurant. The ham and jam was good, but the biscuits and gravy tasted like canned chowder gravy...like it would have been better as a clam chowder than as busicuts and gravy. The specialty French toast was not great but also not terrible. Our waiter wasn't very friendly or helpful either. They didn't really give us the time of day and we felt a bit rushed...nonetheless, i would still recommend someone to go to the other location for a very good Rooster breakfast. read more

I ordered drinks while waiting with app, which was delayed from arriving at the bar 30minutes. Which seemed annoying to me and the bartender. The Bloody Mary's are good and loaded. The Irish Coffee was 'meh'. Food here is Farm/Table advertised. Likely accurate as the breakfast menu is not really creative. I got French toast, which was from sliced sourdough bread bag and battered. Not like the pictures with whipped cream and fruits on a Thick Cut bread. (Maybe there are variations and I was on lowest rung of FT ladder... disappointing for sure after 50minute wait for table). Added to this as side dishes was a couple eggs and fresh Andouille sausage, that was dry and also not like Andouille link I'd expected. Literally not better than a Denny's French Slam to put it mildly. The slingers are all gravy covered, but better option. Crepes are also hot item, but most at our table were plain. On recommendation was the Hot Ham and Jam, which is assembled on a big shortening Biscuit. It would be my pick on a return trip. The vibe is friendly and the service faster than expected and the full bar makes it a great pregame option and or weekend getaway destination planner before you head off to Brewery, Zoo, City Museum or other StL attractions. In St. Louis for a conference and decided to pop into Rooster for Breakfast before hitting the road. I came here because it's a cute, hipster place with a pretty good breakfast. Breakfast was on point as usual, but the service left something to be desired. After a short wait, we were seated at about 10:15am. It's important to note the time, because what happened next is where the trouble began. We ordered our food at 10:22. And were enjoying coffee and chatting when April, the Manager, walked up at around 10:47 and asked whether we had been helped. I told her that we had but that we were still waiting on our food. April then says, you've only been waiting 5 minutes, I sat you here, ...10 at the most. I had the the waiter check the time at which we placed our order and April tried to argue with me about the time we were seated because either she or the hostess had not checked us on when we were seated. April was not only wrong... SHE WAS LOUD AND WRONG! We never expressed concern about when our food was coming. It was Sunday and busy. There was no need for concern. I've now been here twice when I've been in town and it's such a solid restaurant. Everything we tried here was great and it's so reasonably priced! I got the breakfast sandwich which is two biscuits with egg and sausage on each and a side of potatoes. It was enormous and served as two meals for me and with tax was only $12! I was very happy with my choice and you can also ask for jelly on the side to have with half your biscuit. The Finnish pankcake wasn't my favorite due to texture, but if you know it's a custard-based pancake going into it you will probably like it (consistency of flan). Estimated pickup time was right on, even a few early. Love it! Wow. Crazy to force customers to use a review app for the wait list when the food is terrible, service is slow, and the place is falling apart. Joined the waitlist before we arrived for brunch and were seatedimmediately. Cute spot, but the siding was literally falling off the wall at our booth and it looked like more than a few kids had a great time poking at it, furthering the disrepair. Ok, whatever, fine, we're hungry. After about 5 minutes, someone comes to take our drink order. 5 minutes after that coffee and some water arrives. We wait another 5 minutes for our order to be taken. I remember thinking "wow hope this isn't a foreshadowing for the rest of our experience." Unfortunately it was!!!! We waited 50 minutes from our time of order to plates being put on our table. At 30 minutes I started getting bothered. Because this place wasn't even busy (and in hindsight, a BRUNCH place being slow at noon on a Sunday should've been a sign not to go). At 40 minutes, I watched our server get pretty seriously reprimanded by the manager while cleaning up a table. Now I don't know what was going on, but it seemed not-deserved and honestly looked like she was about to cry from his unnecessary and very out in the open berating session. At 45 minutes, I didn't really want to bother our poor waitress, but asked if she wouldn't mind checking on the food. She said it wouldn't be a problem, returned and told us that we were 4th in line so it wouldn't be much longer. I'm sorry fourth??????? 45 minutes after ordering. I was ready to leave but someone came, plates in hand just as I was beginning to consider running. Food was hot but not good at all. I had biscuits and gravy and I don't know how they made that gravy but it was not a correct or tasty recipe. I wondered if the sausage was fully cooked and once confirmed dug in. It had truly the weirdest flavor. Oddly sweet, super heavy flour taste (like a bad roux), and in MAJOR need of literally any kind of seasoning at all. Potatoes were fine but soggy. They also needed some major salt and were dusted with cumin, (which I'm assuming is the only seasoning they have in the kitchen???) which also made its way on top of my fruit bowl!!! Not yum!!! Homemade ketchup is all they have to offer and it is BAD. Like vomit BAD. It's like really old marinara that wasn't even good when it was fresh but for some reason got bottled and left on a table. Oh yeah, it's not refrigerated either. And no date on the bottle. Wonder if the health department knows about that. I asked if they had the to go packets of branded ketchup... yknow, the kind with normal required expiration dates but they told me they were out. Hm maybe, just maybe if enough people are requesting real ketchup that you've run out of it- that's a sign you shouldn't be homemaking your ketchup! It's bad! Also gross! I asked our server if there was any other sort of sauce they had and the manager came over- interrupting her! She seriously looked so devastated. I wanted to call him out and tell him- let the girl speak!!!! He brought over some sriracha mayo which wasn't any better and then asked how our food was. I told him I wasn't feeling it and it seemed like he gets that a lot. No shock there. No offer for help or anything else. He gave us a short life story about how he's a trainer so he has to be rude and mean to the waitstaff which totally makes up for the very obviously low morale there. I had a few more bites of potato and gave up. We flagged our server down and paid the bill hightailing it out of there. Yikes. Seriously DO NOT go here. It is that bad. It is even worse.
