So we learned the hard way that this small town you have to have a reservation for dinner otherwise you don't eat. We went early like between 5pm and 5:30pm thinking we could grab an early dinner and reviews here were good. On arrival we waited a while before waitron asked us if we had a reservation and we said No. She proceeded to say we could come back after 8pm, as they only help those with reservations. We had looked at the website and it mentions you can call and leave a message or email about reservations but it didn't mention that you have to reserve and or you would be turned away. Sending an email without knowing didn't seem the way to go so we tried and failed. Interesting part to me is they do takeout she could have been friendlier and said we did have the option of doing a take out order. Wonderful getting back to Kristina and Tony's fabulous operation! It's been WAY too long. Visited Cedar Street restaurant and bar, AND Market at the Wilbur butcher shop and deli. Great lunch at Cedar Street. We got there around 11, but it filled up quickly. Who knew it was Slider Thursday?! Nice beer variety. We started with a Russian Imperial stout and a Spring Rooster IPA from super bartender Angie. Aside from the stout being too cold - I prefer my dark beer at cellar temp - they were both very tasty. B and I shared the Crispy Cauliflower with spicy aioli appetizer. Very nice, and a good size for sharing. B chose the slider special ($10/3), ordering the house bacon burger, the meatball, and the mushroom and black bean burger. She got them on lettuce instead of rolls, sorta like a slider salad. She wasn't thrilled with the meatball, but liked the other two. I ordered the house special ground pork & bacon burger topped with a runny egg and fries. All good! WOW! I've had a couple of meals from here and they've NEVER disappointed. I've gotten two takeout orders and they've executed them perfectly. I wanted to bring my coworker here to try for a dine in experience and neither of us were disappointed. We went over a typically busy hour and found ample parking, which is located in the back. We were quickly seated by the friendly hostess and greeted by our server a few minutes later. It's absolutely beautiful inside and so welcoming. We both ordered the Rooster and I opted for the fries. The sandwich even without the bun was massive. The flavor is fantastic and the accompaniments are great! The fries come in an epic portion but I managed to finish them off, because they were cooked and seasoned perfectly! The quality is exceptional and well worth the higher prices compared to the other local eateries. I have no problem paying for excellent food. Overall, I really enjoy this place and try to get it into my weekly rotation of lunches. read more

Wow! What a great spot. You can just tell how fresh and too notch all the ingredients are! Space is really lovely too. We shared the wings which were delicious with a distinct smoked flavor. Cute place to eat! The atmosphere was bright, airy and clean. I liked that they had clear signage to seat yourselves. Wasn't sure where to order but people were super friendly in there and guided our way. My son got the beef burger. He was surprise they put a thousand island type sauce on top. He only likes ketchup but he scrapped some of it off and thought the beef was tender, flavorful and the roll was perfect for it. The French fries weren't crisp but still tasty. I got the rooster -wow, delicious. Perfect amount of heat, chicken, buttermilk dressing, and bread. There are mild pickles & cabbage on it which gives it that great crunch. I wish there was an option for white or dark meat. We got two root beers in a glass bottle which were flavorful. read more

I felt the vibe nice, cheery, lots of windows, high ceilings, benches with pillows - it just felt comfortable. The menu held many options. Since I wasn't very hungry, I ordered their Stuffed Pepper Soup and a small Caesar salad and my hubby ordered, The Rooster (spicy, fried chicken sandwich). The first time I tried stuffed pepper soup, was at September Cheese Farm (Honey Brook, PA) and man, was it good! Chunks of onions, peppers (green and red), ground beef, rice; it was a stuffed green pepper, but in soup form. This rendition was not. What it was, ground beef swimming in a watery base, lacking seasoning and missing all those lovely, chunky peppers, onions and rice. I appreciated Rooster's Caesar salad; it's dressing was definitely homemade - lots of cheese and crisp romaine. The Rooster sandwich was a huge mess, that no person could eat, without the contents falling everywhere, as well as in one's lap. The heat, came from the mounds of sauce on top and not the chicken, nor its coating. The shaved cabbage on top, made absolutely no sense and lent nothing to this sandwich and the bun, too bread heavy. read more

We asked the server to sit at one of the tabletop seats when they opened up. They agreed, but when the seats opened up, they said they gave it to someone else. I explained this but the server said "sorry" and walked away. The hamburger was poorly done and another dish was overcooked. In their defense, the place is busy (and probably busy generally) but this has reduced the quality of their service and food. They could improve by expanding or going to a new larger location that might allow them to better serve guests. As is, they likely will make good money but it risks reducing their quality. read more

I had been wanting to go here for quite some time. I used to go all the time when it was the butcher shop, usually for sausages and steaks. I'm glad the business is still open as a restaurant. The beer was really good and they had many different styles that you could choose from. I had the IPA and also the Scottish Ale with mushrooms which was different but tasty. I got the Korean meatballs as an appetizers and they were amazing and the Reuben I ate was also top notch. We live nearby and will be coming back again. Very clean and fast service. read more

Stopped in today for the first time for the newly brewed beer. We decided to grab som lunch while we were here. I ended up getting the loaded pork fries and my wife got a grilled chicken sandwich. She was extremely happy with her sandwich and the fries were delicious and LOADED. The atmosphere and decor is extremely inviting and comfortable, as if you were hanging out in someone's home. Staff was extremely friendly and very attentive to all the guest despite it being packed. We stopped for dinner on a Friday night after visiting a nearby distillery. I feel this may be a better lunch vs dinner stop. It was "quiet" in an uncomfortable way. For a quaint-sized space, a half-wall seating area adds an unnecessary separation. People at the bar have their back to people seated at the half-wall, and those folks have their backs to the tables. The food tasted fresh and had a nice flavor combination. Portions are small, fine for us. read more

Rooster Street Butcher specializes in handcrafted charcuterie and headcheese is one of their most popular items at the shop. Headcheese is extremely popular here in Lancaster County, and is known as "souse" in the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect. Souse is a variety of headcheese that uses pickled meat from unused animal parts (usually pork) such as head, tongue and heart. Whole-animal utilization, or nose-to-tail, is a movement throughout the food industry, and Tony and Kristina have embraced this philosophy in their shop After hearing about all this, a trip to Lititz was in store and my appetite was ready for the delights awaiting me: Famous Bacon Burger; Made-to-Order Fresh Slaw; Turkey and Potato Soup; and Chocolate Bread Pudding. While I did not try the charcuterie or headcheese on my visit, I did decide on their "Famous" Bacon Burger, which is a blend of ground pork and ground bacon. It was a nice change from the standard beef. You can also add a local farm egg to finish this delicious burger. I love coleslaw and their fresh made-to-order version hit the spot. I prefer mine with a bit less creaminess, but the presentation was adorable. The slaw arrived in a small mason jar along with a dainty fork and served on top of a metal tray. The soup du jour was Turkey and Potato so I gladly ordered some and was extremely glad I did. The stock was a beautiful deep brown color with such a rich flavor; I slurped up every bit from my bowl. I highly recommend the Chocolate Bread Pudding; it was simply exquisite. Some bread puddings can be soggy but this was perfect. With a strong chocolate flavor in each chewy bite, I was in heaven. Everything I tasted at Rooster Street Butcher was outstanding. It was easy to see the quality and care that goes into the food. Rooster Street has a motto that states, "A happy pig makes for a tasty pig." And after visiting and tasting their food, I can agree that they are doing just that. Their nose-to-tail movement is an important mission as people have started to become increasingly disconnected from their food and its source. I had their signature bacon burger and loved it. Couldn't ask for anything better. But for such a capable kitchen to create that burger I was disappointed when I chose chips as my side and received a stand bag of chips instead of house chips or something more memorable. I also really enjoyed their Moscow Mule with burnt rosemary. Another delicious recipe but on the expensive side since it's a small cup filled with ice leaving almost no room for that actual drink. I drank 3 because they were so good but also because they felt more a shot than a drink. Atmosphere was pretty good, nice trendy looking place and they are doing pretty good working around the COVID requirements with shields and such All in all I thought it was a good dinner just a little on the expensive side for all things considered. If you are in Lancaster, skip the belly busting buffets and make sure to stop here. We came here for lunch after such pleasant takeaways from their stand at Lancaster's Central Market on a previous visit. Unfortunately, if you eat a burger here, this will become the new standard as to what a burger should be. Burgers are 6 oz of deliciousness with tomato, lettuce and a great sauce (think Big Mac type sauce but ohhhhh sooo much better). My dining partners got the pork and bacon burger - also delicious as was the crispy, spicy, signature fried chicken sandwich called the Rooster which came with slaw and homemade pickles. The sandwiches here are almost too big to handle, but somehow you will manage. Burgers are served with bagged chips but for $3.50 you can opt for fries or parmesan fries. Drink choices are limited - no Coke or Pepsi here. After you eat, you can buy some things to cook at home or shop their cheese/charcuterie counter for things ready to eat. The breakfast sausage is not very fatty and very herby. Country bacon is also wonderful and perfectly salted. I especially like their terrine. My understanding is that the place has been open for several years. It is impeccably clean. Parking in the lot is limited. Premises are wheelchair accessible including the restroom. read more
